- Dad 33 delivers a huge fish for breakfast and while feeding the chicks, the very lively fish escaped and flattened them! Instead of removing it, Mom Maya decided to sit on the lot of them, fish, chicks and egg! Even when Dad came to remove the fish, she stayed put. Osprey chicks need to be tough! :-)

I've always lovingly refered to ospreys as stupid chickens. No idea why, but it fits perfectly in every osprey nest I've ever watched 🤣

7:42: Whoe, watch the head! She stood on the chick's head at least twice by the way! If this Osprey has raised a total of 33 chicks, I can only imagine what would be the outcome if a first-year mom did this! She'd be sitting on the chicks while the fish was on them for hours!
They haven’t raised 33 chicks, the 33 refers to the number on the leg band on dad.

Kind of incredible the fish flops after its head has been completely gone for 5 mins, but even more so, if you watch the adult as they get close to the babies, they close their talons and are so careful compared to when it went to get the fish at the start of the video.

I think this is a lesson for the chicks to learn the smell of the fish so when they get older becomes good hunters . I know the head of the fish would spoiled first so it makes sense eating that first 🤔

What a strong protective instinct, she knows her talons are deadly and won't use them near the chicks. So she broods them and the fish to keep them safe from the weather. How weird brooding a live fish!

The mother is a good mom but she was taken by surprise when the fish flopped. It's a huge fish and the mom is nervous about struggling with a big live fish in the nest. That's the reason she's not disturbing it, but she is concerned about her babies and is hoping the fish dies.
Far safer to leave the fish and take her time here. Notice how they have to retract the sharp claws when near the chicks?

Perhaps she laid on the fish so that it wouldn’t keep bouncing like that on the babies. She doesn’t know how long it could flap like that and so it was a move to help babies and the fact she went right to the egg is because egg is most vulnerable and wanted to protect it first. Hey you never know!

Most likely she is on the fish from either other predator or the father and saving it for herself when she is hungry. See so many comments about how stupid the bird is but this my explanation has to why she puts it there maybe not the smartest thing but she making sure she safeguard her food.
