TH-cam has been recommending these kinds of videos to me lately and it's eye opening, I had no idea the world of birds was so utterly brutal and savage. No wonder birds are so aloof and seemingly emotionless, the stuff they go through just to reach adulthood and stay alive is insane, who knew there was all this territorial slaughtering going on? You wouldn't think it given the shallow interactions we humans have with birds in general, I always thought it must be lovely just from hearing the chirping and singing in the morning, or wistfully watching the graceful beauty of their flight, stuff like this tempers my nostalgic view with a different perspective for sure. Definitely won't be hoping to get reincarnated as a bird anytime soon!

Yes, the singing that we hear pleases the ear not so much as seeing these footage, because thanks to the online broadcast, we can watch the whole drama of life in the wild. And these are not always joyful, but also tragic moments in the life of birds.

When so was young I wanted to be a bird watcher. It’s upsetting how brutal they can be. It’s also a shock to see the efficiency of some birds and inability of others. I’d have thought the osprey a stronger bird by appearance alone.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you very much for your time.
Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.

Osprey are much better & much faster flyers than Ravens, & had the Mother caught up with the Raven she would’ve shredded it to pieces long before the Raven could even turn around to try to think of a way to use its beak “like a Dagger”, cos like all Raptors Osprey kill by using the sharp & powerful talons on their feet to stab, crush & immobilise their prey & their enemies!!! There’s a reason why the Raven would try to annoy & unsettle the Adult Osprey, but would shoot off & fly away from her the instant he saw her take off after him to chase him away… Ravens are far too clever to risk their lives foolishly by fighting an Osprey face-to-face. Unless there’s a whole Mob of them… But even then there’s no way on earth that a Raven could ever hope to catch an Osprey in flight!!! But tragically on this occasion a freak accident resulted in the Osprey Mother clipping & breaking one of her wings against a tree branch while chasing the Raven away through dense woodland… Freak Accidents can happen to every animal species on the planet - including Humans!
As for the comment that someone made about the Raven having a bigger beak, first of all these are young Osprey Chicks which aren’t yet old or strong enough to be able to fly, & secondly the Raven’s Beak would be useless in a dogfight against an Osprey, cos Raptors kill by sinking their deadly talons into their prey & their rivals!

@@koreyg9313 Although Ospreys are categorized as bird of prey, they are mainly equipped for hunting fish and are not necessarily as good as Hawks in mid-air fights. You can see that the Raven changed its flight trajectory upwards and the Osprey followed it upward, then it seems the Raven delivered significant blows from above and then eventually grounded the Osprey and incapacitated it. In its urge to protect the nestlings, the Osprey was too ready for a fight. It need not have left the nest until the male came back. Also, it should not have followed the Raven in an upwards trajectory. The Raven has the largest sized brain of all birds, and this technique was something it is adept at and executed well. All in all, the Osprey should not have left the nest until the male came back, and even when the male returned, it should have let the male do the fighting. Eagles (females) when nesting are also harassed by ravens, but they don't leave the nest and they wait for the male to come back. Once the male comes back, only then do one of them leave the nest for a chase/fight.
This pair of Ospreys ( Alma & Ossi) are not particularly adept at protecting their nest. In 2019 both of them left the nest for more than an hour, and that led to a Goshawk devouring all 3 of their chicks at that time. Now that Alma is gone, Ossi will not pair again most likely as Ospreys are monogamous. There have been reports that some females have visited Ossi, but there have been no news of any pairing or nesting since Alma passed.

Pigeons would be sitting in them. Sometimes there's egg shells and it's contents on the ground directly under them. Meaning pigeons will literally kickout another pigeons eggs and claim the nest. The literally fight each other like these two did too. There's a dead one in the yard right now.

Would also like to add this information, 25 /7/ 2021, from the Satakunta Osprey project:
"The progress of nesting became virtually impossible after Alma's death. Such small chicks cannot be flown by an Osprey male alone, i.e. fed, defended and protected from heat. Numerous experts were consulted on the follow-up and it was finally concluded that the only option for the larger chicks is in another nest."
    [...]
"Both surviving chicks were ringed before relocation to the new nest. On inspecting the nest now, it was found sadly that the chick who was injured in the attack had died. However the other chick whas fledged successfully and was seen flying nearby. See pinned comment for full details."
From the pinned comment: "Many have asked about the two babies of Ossi and Alma moved to the second nest as a result of the unfortunate events on Midsummer Eve. The chicks were ringed and investigated during the move.
The inspector of the nest visited the scene and found that one of the chicks had passed away. It was surprising that the deceased baby was the one who survived the raven attack with seemingly minor injuries. The cause of death of the baby was no longer able to be concluded at that point. The relocated chick has a yellow ring SRS, which was added during the relocation. On Thursday 22.7 SRS was photographed in flight near the nest, so this story seems to have a happy ending.
Midsummer's Eve events showed once again that anything can happen at the nests approach something you can't possibly prepare for. Hopefully Ossi will find a good partner for next year. A good sign is that Ossi has not abandoned his nest place due to setbacks, but has lived there in the last few days. And best of all, we've also seen females with Ossi on the nest. Next spring we'll see how the story continues in Ossi's nesting swamp.
The presence of ravens at Ossi's nesting swamp has also sparked discussion. However, they have been living in the same areas for a long time and they haven't been more harmful to the weather. The weathers have been nesting in that nest continuously since 2005; the first failure came only the other year as a result of a visit tby a goshawk and the second setback this year because of the raven."
The continuing battle, on June 27, between the male osprey, Ossi, and the raven: th-cam.com/video/-rU6IpQvv7M/w-d-xo.html
If I'm not mistaken, it also appears that some female ospreys have visited Ossi. As with ravens, ospreys tend to be monogamous.

Stayed glued to her nest fighting them if they got too close, until her mate came back and gave chase.

It was a fox. I believe that the raven went in for a dive traight towards the fox, and the osprey not knowing it wasn't just going for the raven, ended up diving straight into the fox, whilst the raven pecked at it so as it tries to out maneuver the beak, flies down right into the trap. It's sounds stupid, but ravens are known for working together with other animals and species for their own benefits.

@@viktorbihar5384 No. Take a close look at 0:46. The mother osprey caught up with the raven and both tangled up and fell. The raven did not dive into the fox. It must have jabbed at the mother osprey and immobilized her. The fox appeared in the scene much later and found the osprey.

Yeah, the raven & osprey both fell @ 0:46 to the left of that big tree. Noticed later on that the same spot the fox is in and had something white in their mouth. Probably the osprey.

The osprey attacked the ravin, intercepting it in mid-flight. The two of them fell to the ground. Somehow, the ravin got the best of the more powerful osprey, incapacitated or killed it, and then went to the nest to punish the osprey chicks.
I'm guessing the two bird species are territorial rivals, because the ravin didn't eat the chicks.
The fox finished off the osprey.

    • @ilokivi
      @ilokivi ปีที่แล้ว

The raven killed the chick to reduce the level of competition between its own chicks and those of the osprey now injured or dead. Without an adult to feed and protect them, the osprey chicks are unlikely to survive.
