  • The very noise moped engine is torn down and rebuild with new gaskets, a clean and new bearings for the crankshaft and for the gearing.
    The engine got water damage, but is salvageable.
    Also the exhaust is changed which will make the moped more quite but will also make it perform better because a two stroke engine needs back pressure to work right.
    The difference in noise is quite massive!

    A point of note: Make sure that the seal on the left side of the crank is spaced far enough from the bearing, as to allow proper lubrication, or the left crank bearing will overheat. The left crank bearing is lubricated by your fuel, and oil mixture, and the right, by the trans fluid in the gear case. If you look at the case inside under the cylinder, there is an oiling channel leading to the left bearing. You want the opening to your bearing, nice and wide. I just rebuilt my E50. Nachi bearings, viton seals, and a new weighted crank and connecting rod with needle bearings in the small end.

    It's called "spinning" when a bearing fails. I would at least replace the rings. I have rebuilt several Puch E50 engines, and replaced the top end on a few ZA50 engines. I've never had a ZA50 2 speed engine apart, it takes a lot of special tools, and the correct gaskets are hard to find. My 1979 Sears Free Spirit Kromag has a Puch E50 engine. It only had 1200 miles on it and had been kept inside when I bought it, so it is fine now. I may go ahead and buy a lot of the parts to rebuild it in case they become unavailable in the future. Fortunately Puch engine parts seem to be plentiful at the moment. You need to put oil or assembly lube on the bearings before putting everything back together. I often use STP oil treatment. Yes, they do make bearing pullers, but you will almost always destroy a pressed on bearing when removing it no matter what kind of tools you use. What would worry me is the connecting rod bottom end bearing, that goes on the crankpin. No way to replace it, and no way to check it. Since it is a pressed together crank, you have to replace the crank and connecting rod as a unit. Did you replace the transmission shaft bearings? I would have vapor blasted the case halves while they were apart, and make them look brand new, unless you actually want the patina. Did you use assembly lube on the piston, rings, and cylinder before putting them back together? Properly maintained and using good oil a Puch E50 engine will last past 50,000 miles at full throttle, though the clutch will wear out sooner than that if you do a lot of stop and go riding. These are high quality engines

    the leaky exhaust would have weakened the return of the cylinder as its a two stroke engine.
    btw this is the fourbaring maxi blok a much loved version the later one has 3 barings.

    How does it handle now? Does it have more torque? Or at least a noticeable difference in pull power?

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much the same... but without a very bad grinding noise from the bearing! It would have spun a bearing og seized soon if I dident change them. :)

    You can use silicone grease on that ignition cable when fitting it thru that rubber hole, silicone does not harm rubber.
