my favorite part of this HAS to be the bits of silence. it adds a sense of reality. it isnt a film, it's real life. it's birds chirping and wind rushing by. it's realistic and i love it. also, the acting at the end was crazy, everybody crying and hyperventilating and vomiting was so audibly overwhelming that it works. i love this already!!
I like that even though its minecraft they feel like people, in the streets and the cramped kitchen people try to get out of the way, even though you could technically just walk through but it'd break immersion.
Those were all great. but my favorite part was the sudden camera movement at the end, when throughout the entire thing before it was still, really added to the craze.
An amazing little detail I noticed: At 26:38 When Ivory first plays the piano, it immediately cuts off at the first chord, which I found.. strange, at first. But upon rewatch, I realized that it's the first chord of the song used at the end, 'Mountain ash', when the murder is shown. And it just so happens, Ivory first started playing the song when everyone else was asleep, the perfect time to do something without anyone noticing...
During the forest scene where Ivory stops dusting and looks to the forest, you could theoretically say that she’s using it as a distraction to block her guilty conscience.. IF she killed Misticat
@@ubnominal Maybe, but I actually think the attention drawn to the forest is about something else, especially since she looks out to the forest several time BEFORE the supposed murder takes place, such as 15:18 and 15:54
@@Hinterlindz The forest and the constant shots of Ivory looking or being nature suggests she obviously wants to be free from this lifestyle that was thrusted upon her, when she was born.
@@ubnominal Excellent theory! Though the ominous drone during the last scene of her looking out to the forest suggests something more... well, ominous. But who really knows for certain!
I love that in Whitepine, everyone treats the Butlers and Maids(especially Ivory) are treated like people and not slaves, they are here willingly, and when Ivory gets scolded for not eating, its not out of disrespect or anger, its with a worried yet stirn, its nice to see these people treated as...people, its nice❤
to be honest, I got the opposite impression with the exact same scene about not eating. specifically, the way he said "try to read between the lines, okay?" is particularly dehumanizing - she must do exactly as she's told and nothing else, but she's also scolded for not doing exactly as she's told, and expected to extrapolate. it's a game where she loses no matter what. and when she asked to play piano, he was quick to say no. I suppose most of the tenants of the house treat the servants like people - but it's certainly not *everyone*. clown was also informed of her past experiences just like this, yet he still is very strict with her, scolding her for the smallest thing, and not in any endearing way.
@@sodiboo ahhh I see, I kinda see it too, I guess what I mean that they don't treat her worse than the others because of her condition! She's not seen as less then! Anyway, you have a great point
@@sodiboo I felt like the piano part was more something to do with someone who used to play it, maybe someone that passed away? Out of respect to them maybe? Im not sure, but I think theres more to it
The foreshadowing of zam saying "hey, there's gonna be a hunt tomorrow" 14:35 and the next day Mysticat being presumably murdered is awesome Not sure if its intentional though
A few things worth mentioning: -The chair and lamppost have both been seen before, in an unlisted video. -Scythe is likely experiencing some sort of trauma, which will be revealed at some point in the future. -The piano being in the basement likely implies that the lady of the house is dead. -The newspaper clipping that was used in a teaser image for Whitepine says that multiple young men have been overworked and starved to death in a nearby mill, meaning that there is little food going around. The county is likely experiencing a famine/economic crisis and the hemlock family is taking in people who cannot get work -In the same image of the newspaper, it mentions that there has been a professional hunter who has disappeared in a hunt. He is likely dead too. Perhaps the same person who killed the hunter killed lady hemlock and the maid? Update: 1.1k likes holy 😳💀
Another interesting thing: If you turn on subtitles when everyone finds Mysty’s body, Pyro says “WHY MYSTY” several times in the background, meaning he automatically assumed it was a suicide
@@cindychoo7 Very good point, and I forgot to mention that Mysty's body is on the central staircase, which is frequently visited by both family and staff. Even though there are many places where nobody goes, which Raptor goes to great lengths to show... Mysty's body was placed there. Whoever killed Mysty wanted their body to be found.
interesting thing I haven't seen in the comments yet: the names. 1st, Ivory being called Ivy, which is also a poisonous plant. 2nd, the family name being hemlock, which is also a plant that has a poisonous variant
Something I've just realised, the 'butler' who gave Ivory permission to go outside wasn't with the rest of the staff while they were introduced. Edit: turns out he was there just offscreen, but the way he acts is still very suspicious. He is also missing from the group photo community post.
@@supaso1derperhaps the good old "It was the butler!" plotline, similar to that of many old books and storylines. This does seem to take inspiration of those stories, after all.
Also when we first meet him just before 17:00 notice it’s on the servant side of the house and there is no one else there, only reason he’d be so secluded like that is if he’d been given an order, I’m probably overthinking it though
list of cool stuff - ambient sound design and noise use, music production, basically everything sound related - cinema camera angles, timed cuts, and aspect ratio (well chosen :o) - actors (voice and otherwise) - writing, and character designs (never seen anything in shown in mc as in depth as this) - creation of suspense (quiet scenes, contrast of volumes, and intensity are amazingly done) - plot - pacing (it doesn't feel too fast, like most mc films i've looked at. almost nothing is overdone, and i don't see any annoying cliches.) - set design (awesome builds, especially the interiors) - use of symbolism, references to outside media, hidden meanings - color correction (very under-appreciated aspect of filmmaking) this is incredibly well produced, so kudos to everyone involved, and of course congratulations and thank you to ivory for making it into a reality
Can you elaborate on use of symbolism, references to outside media, hidden meanings? If it's not a bother of course c: I love discussing the intentions behind every little detail so I would like to hear what you noticed !
@@enarmonika5557 most of Minecraft Cinema is either creepypasta or AGR, but there are story movies too. They just aren't that frequent. You can try searching for them, I believe that there was one absolutely phenomenal about an Arctic Station and loneliness. Sadly that's all I remember about it.
i hate how nowadays all content has to be quick and choppy to keep everyone's attention from clicking shorts, making it unenjoyable, but then there's stuff like this, to make the viewer ACTUALLY ENJOY it, instead of it just being for money and farming content
I LOVE how slow this is! It is an amazing refresher from all the Hardcore, SMP, and algorithmically optimized content in the Minecraft and general TH-cam space. All the lingering angles, the wide shots where you have to look in the corner to see the action, the scenes where there is nothing but really realistic sound effects, it’s all perfect! Edit: Thank you for 1 thousand likes! I’ve never gotten that many! That is just such a high number I can’t comprehend it.
I AGREE, everything is so optimized towards children on youtube nowadays, stuff like this are hidden gems, ive always enjoyed storytelling in this format, and i always enjoyed ivory's storytelling as well, i feel like i will be rewatching these many MANY times
As someone with a bachelors in Film, this is stunning Ivory! The shot composition, the music, the sound design, the framing, and that last running shot from sticks to a handheld was fantastic! I haven't seen a series that made me feel so unsettled just from the absence of dialogue/music in a while. Long uninterrupted shots with nothing but the room tone and birds chirping to be heard I'M NERDING OUT SO MUCH!!!😆😆😆 Seriously, incredible work to you and your team! Can't wait to see the next episode!💜
OMG YESS I FEEL THE SAME!!! I don’t officially study film, but I plan to just because I live cinematography. But omg this is the most aesthetically pleasing, well crafted, well shot and raw piece of media ive scene from a smaller creator. I honestly can’t begin to list how many hidden moments I thoroughly enjoyed. As well as the ringing of the ears as the camera switches to a handheld!? Chef’s kiss🤭 I NEED more please thank thank you 😘
Idk if anyone relates, but this series reminds me so much of over the garden wall. Something about the feeling I get watching the shots of unmoving scenery and how the characters don’t talk super loudly, like their voices are blended into the mansion.
As a film student I can honestly say this is one of the best short form narratives I've seen on TH-cam. The camera work was so well done, and I didn't know you could make something look and flow that good within Minecraft. The focus pulling abd shots were just absolutely on point. I'm so excited to see where this goes. Truly amazing
No because I actually really love serapter's character. The acting seems very natural and that's genuinely what I really like about it. Same with the camera work and the idea of it, it leaves me (personally) kind of unsettled and with the addition of the muffled voices and othe noises/ambience following along with that makes it SO much better.
got recommended this by a friend, honestly im really impressed abt the camera movement there in the end, i really like how theres just silent and still moments in the vid, cant wait for the next ep
This is the type of series that I can already feel a 2 year obsession creeping up on me, the type of thing where when the season ends I'll hear a regular word and perk up as if it's a reference, and I am ecstatic for that to come! and also you speak so eloquently Ivory, and very mindfully as the character, it just scratches my brain! Cannot wait for more :]
I know its a small detail, but when Ivory went into the basement and turned on the light I really liked how you could hear the buzzing of it It's something you dont see in a lot of things like this and it brings even more life to it
One thing I noticed: Ivory's being called Ivy multiple times I might be overthinking but it might be a hint since scenes and Ivory herself as a character focus that much on plants. I guess it might be a hint on what's going on, perhaps on how others feel about her, how they might be suspicious of her even if being friendly. Since ivy can be poisonous, it might hint on Ivory being suspected or being dangerous herself or something. I don't think she really is dangerous but i feel like others can think so P.s. i love this so much 😭😭😭😭 it's just amazing, I'm rewatching it over and over and showing it to my friends at least since I can't really support financially, it's just a masterpiece
i didnt even think of that! but now you say that i do wonder if there had been a maid called ivy prior to this too, perhaps? maybe another reason why people keep tripping up on that. Again i dont think it relates to this, but "i havent had a roomie in a while", but how it was introduced that was probably spacing dialogue.
Fun fact: poison ivy isn't actually technically a poison, some people can touch it and be totally fine. The rash comes from our immune systems overreacting, i.e. like an alergy.
@@raeraesmain Yeah, that would make sense! I kinda feel like it hints on staff shortage, as much as the fact that Hemlocks know about every new servant and Clown not sending Ivory away. And now that i think about it, Mysti was killed right after Ivory arrival and like- maybe it's a thing that there can't be more people than that
Love this, but another more casual idea could be they're trying to be friendly - which says a lot about the staff and even more about Ivory herself, it seems expected from her personality though. Ivory doesn't seem like the type to understand nicknames nor the gesture behind them
I watched whitepine 2 days ago having no idea what it is and what a Minecraft film is supposed to be, but upon watching the trailer and getting to know Ivory and who she was just from a tiktok fanart, I clicked on this pilote and i gotta say...the first few shots of the film surprised me. The cinematography is genius on a personal level, as well as the script, the voice acting as well, everyone did spectacular, they brought a Minecraft film into life, it felt so natural and sincere. But that's not the only thing keeping me awake at night, what kept me awake at night is how the camera keeps putting us on edge by panning to our surroundings, like we can't see the people even if we wanted to, and the music, how it cuts to fit different scenarios, and the white noises being different every scene to show how curious Ivory's been it's enchanting. But still no. What haunted me was how alive you made your surroundings. The last time I remember any film does this was 'Call Me By Your Name' and 'Dune', making the characters focus on the architect, the sceneries, touching it, feeling it, embracing it. You've somehow truly captured the essence of how important locations are and how they aren't just for backgrounds. And that's sadly what most films never consider. It felt so real, so alive, despite everyone being expressionless mc avatars, the voices and the world build, the way you make the characters act with every build, the way you made Ivory embrace her surroundings like it's one with her, like she's so intrigued by it, it's truly breathtaking. No amount of realistic Minecraft build will ever compare to the dedication you put to how alive you made everything feel with your editing. And the last scene where the camera slowly pans into Ivory as she processes the murder, how brilliant and haunting, what a way to end a first episode. Please do more, you're truly a talented film-maker.
This isn't a simple Minecraft Roleplay. This is a Minecraft Cinema. This. This is the type of stuff that I feel has been missing in the Minecraft scene for a long time. The camera work is S-Tier. The sound design is an S-Tier. The Voice Acting, Dialog, Set Design, everything was genuinely amazing. Mountain Ash for the end credits song was amazing. It's bittersweet, dramatic, fits the ending shot perfectly. It's also oddly foreboding, haunting almost like it's trying to disguise itself as this mellow and bittersweet song. Please keep up the good work Ivory! Your work is inspiring.
I know! And the part where Ivory got both Minute-Tech and Clownpierce to play… I didn’t think that they had the talent to play in a, as you said, S-tier production
Something about this is so unique and keeps the viewer drawn in!! It feels refreshing and eerie at the same time. It’s also been awhile where I don’t get bored right off the bat and just skip the whole ep. This series is truly unique.
I found this through a TikTok edit, and I was so obsessed and impressed with the cinematography, that even after years of not watching Minecraft stories I just HAD to check this out. And I don’t regret it at all I love all of it and I hope they’ll be more to come!
I need a video essay on Whitepine EP 1 which include analyzing every frame and every line to piece together what we can of ivory’s past and predictions on the killer.
I’ve seen some roleplays that use music to give subtle hints or characterization to characters. Which is why I kind of want to analyze the OST tracks name and its background (You can find the OST in ivorysoundtracks)
@@ubnominal Since Ivory makes her own music and has shown mystery-esque/ARGish photos on twitter where you'd have to brighten it up to see letters soI would totally believe if she hid something in her OSTs too somehow, it's very possible.
The atmosphere created by those long holding shots is amazing. It fills each scene with tension, not that something bad is going to happen, but that something IS happening that we just can't see. It's beautiful.
Only a few minutes in and I can already tell what's up with Ivory... I love that Ivory is so well written and represented, everything helps describe her character while not directly saying it, it's a very relatable character from my point of view, I love the cinematics.
@@menoislucky8179 it could be c-ptsd, or it could be autism too imo :) but sometimes c-ptsd presents as/very close to autism, both of which would explain the literal thinking and how awkward, quiet, and shy she is :) I think c-ptsd would be closer/more likely though!
This actually felt like a movie, even actual movies nowadays feel so targeted and just don't have the vibes, this felt like an actual movie, with a proper plot and everything. Characters that actually felt real.
I love how this is shot. Each scene is a snapshot of noise. As soon as the noise goes away the scene changes. It’s like were looking through memories. The exceptions to this are striking. The ominous forest catches the attention of Ivory and rewrites whatever was happening before her attention was grabbed. The ending scene being an extremely dynamic shot after an entire episode of slow and static ones. It’s amazing.
wow.. the map design, the sound, the script, the suspense and time spent on senes, the camera placement. also i rarely ever like the characters in these series but their personalities are so defined and different. i LOVE it, this is beautiful ALSO THE ENDING GAVE ME CHILLS OMGGGGGGGG
as a media student, i very much enjoy the use of a wide variety of camera angles. my most common issue with most minecraft shows like this, is that there are only about three camera angles that are cycled through. Whitepine clearly is going places, incredible production.
I'm really flabergasted from what i just watched, the sounds, the voices, the musics, the end, the cuts, this is a masterpiece I just can not wait for the episode 2
27:10 The “Ivory, you’re allowed to eat lunch” seems to have triple meaning within the story, life, & character. In the story, we have Ivory absent for the alleged time of the murder. In life, it’s parallel to an unhealthy relationship with food. (The constant apologies could be introspection, imo). In character, it shows Ivory doesn’t prioritize her own needs.
Something is not adding up about the murder. Clownpierce said that she was absent yesterday at lunch, and the body was found the next day. The room was white and clean so I don’t think it’s like a back room, more like something in the main side of the house. So there is no way somebody (even her) could kill somebody in a room like that yesterday, and the body would only be found next day. More like, the victim was killed at night, rather than yesterday at lunch.
@@silverangelz I do not believe the murderer is Ivory. The timings just don’t add up and I do not think Ivory would write herself as the supposed killer. Ivory herself in this story has a strange backstory from what we can tell and is shrouded in mystery, so there’s still something about her.. but I don’t think it’s murder related.
I love the camera staying static then changing to handheld at 28:10, reminds me of the scene from knives out were the family is questioning Marta about the will. Its a great way to show the chaos and panic of the scene. It being the first time the camera moves like that also emphasizes that this is a turning point in the story. This whole episode is great, can't wait for more.
For my first impressions, this was fantastic. The 4:3 aspect ratio and long scenes without dialogue really go to show that you are taking this your own way and stylizing it as much as you want, and I love it. The acting both in voice and even the Minecraft aspect were great and the cinematography and set design were awesome. I genuinely think this could be on par with or even surpass plenty of professionally produced shows. And not to mention the songs. I play piano too and I honestly think I'll probably learn some of the songs from this as it goes on and people start transcribing them. Please continue making this as good as you can.
I’m 17, i take study media, and this is one of the best directed videos I’ve seen on this platform. There is obviously a lot of work that’s been put into every shot, every individual moment of dialogue too. I am incredibly invested in where this is going. This made my day. The writing on the main character is insanely well thought through. And that moment where she doesn’t have a brush was very comedic in its timing. My favourite part has to be where the main character says she likes listening to her trainer talk. I am a massive introvert and i can understand where she is coming from. I relate a lot to the topics brought up in this. I just thought i should leave a comment because I enjoyed it so much. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Things we know about ivory (character): -Intrigued by plants/the forest -Overcompensates by apologizing often, sign of abuse -Mention by minutetech first that she dosent read between the lines and takes things as directly as possible -Knows how to play the piano -Came from a different town -Had no belongings -Was probably 'scouted' or sold by her possible caretaker -Was missing during lunch that day From what little I can guess is that she was the daughter of some noble (purely because she knows piano) or daughter of a low/mid class servant/maid and there was a piano at that manor. Was sold/left her town when opportunity arose and is most likely not missed because she was possibly abused/hated for her tendency to take things directly. I know this story will have so much more to offer and I cant wait to see the entire thing unfold. See everyone on Episode 2!!!! :)
Only a hunch, but I've got the feeling that something happened to Ivory in a forest in her past. Something about the way the trees are focused so heavily on, with all other audio commonly becoming muffled, it implies to me that there is something about the forest that is drawing Ivory, perhaps even causing some form of panic. On that note, the silent stare that Ivory expresses when viewing the murder feels like some form of fear response, locking up. This just so happens to be the same reaction Ivory has when seeing the forest. The point is that I think that Ivory experienced some kind of traumatic event in some forest in her past, possibly being led there by their love of plants.
@GiddyGoblin2.0"Guys, it's scripted, except this time it isn't trying to pretend it's an unscripted video unlike many modern smp videos" is essentially what he was saying.
someone get this woman a film set i need a movie now Ok and now that I've watched it, I need to rant because this is so good. The way the camera just sits in place, the quiet scenes, the abrupt cuts, sometimes cutting out dialogue, the amazing music, it's all amazing. The cuts in particular are just so masterful. It tells you as a viewer that what you're hearing is background, and it really isn't super important you remember it. It also tells you where Ivory as a character is mentally. She's not really listening. She hears and understands, but on a personal level she's disconnected. Also, while we have a main character for the story, in universe she's as insignificant as everyone else, and we're observing the events from a third person perspective. It also helps that it's all from a third person POV.
This reminds me of Violet evergarden anybody getting that vibe, injured person does work, Takes orders too seriously, takes only orders and isn't exactly interested in anything other then a single thing for Violet it was finding out what love was and writing for Ivory here it's The Piano. Also both have to be told to eat otherwise they won't so far this is honestly pretty good keep up the great work! (P.S I don't know if Ivory is actually injured im just going of the hurt looking head and arm)
Yeah I got the exact same vibes, it reminds me of the first episode. Her being taken to a mansion, starting a job, the mail, and Ivory being mysteriously quiet and confused reminds me of Violet. The blonde guy also kinda reminds me of Benedict. I see so many similarities, and Ivory also looks and sounds like violet
The shot composition on this is absolutely insane. I cannot get over how perfect every single sequence is. GOD I missed cinematic minecraft - PLEASE keep it up!!
yeah I liked the wide shot then the wide shot then the wide shot oh then the close up then the even wider shot then the wide shot then the wide shot then the wide shot then the wide shot then the wide shot then the
I love how the house has sounds and people walking around. So many moving parts make it feel so alive! And the use of music and silence is really amazing
This is genuinely beautiful. The slow, almost solemn tone it takes on throughout the whole video, the dull colors, the almost mundane, slice of life feel, it all comes together to create an uncanny environment, almost familiar in a way yet off. The size of the mansion and the rooms, compared to the players is vast, and it just seems so... empty. That with the sound design, the environment, the near-constant rain and gloom, all comes together to create this beginning. And who knows what happened, at the ending? Only time will tell. And make sure to eat lunch, while you're at it. Maybe it'll give you an alibi.
Thank you so much for featuring my pack! I had no idea anyone would take it seriously. and I quite frankly could not tell which scene it was in, so your builder did a great job incorporating it. And I am even more impressed that you linked the pack for everyone else to use! that is so cool!
This is an amazing thing to have on my birthday, since it got cancelled by my family.thanks ivory, truly I just saw the comments, thank you so much everyone, happy bday to the August peeps in the chat!
This is incredible!! I love the atmosphere, the mysteries of Ivory's past and Pyro's illness, the slow calm shots and occasional sharp cuts leading to an eerie and just unsettling enough tone to keep the slower pace interesting and tense, and I'm so interested to see how the overall tone changes in the next episodes after that incredible cliffhanger!! Even if I hadn't read the content warning, the subtle moments of uncertainty (like that one quick cut with the heartbeat when Ivory looks into the forest while cleaning her duster, or how only the first note of what she plays on piano is shown, or the illness of the nicest(possibly?) family member) make it clear that something is going to go wrong somehow, and the length of the episode is perfect for just getting used to the way shots linger slightly longer than one might be used to from other stories, get used to the tone of how this story is portrayed, and then out of nowhere the screams, and the camera moves as if picked up once everyone starts to crowd around and there's no dramatic music, in fact there's no sound at all, aaa I love the tone shift at the end of the episode so much, I know it can't be anything other than a murder has been discovered but the moment the body is shown is so effective, the reactions of all the other characters and then Ivory just stands there, aaa! I love how we don't get a look inside her head at all in this episode, it's clear she's doing her best to keep up with what's going on around her but it's a total mystery what she's thinking and the muffled conversation at the start gives a hint but not anything definitive (and maybe if people watched without subtitles it might be hidden completely) and the fact that she wanted to play the piano so much but still at the last second realised she should ask permission before playing it but also possibly forgot that eating lunch would be expected of her? And the trouble with talking! Aaa I love this character so much and the whole time I was scared there would be a misunderstanding where she got in trouble! The moment Pyro let them go was such a relief! This whole setting is so mysterious and I'm so looking forward to getting to know all the characters better!!

not gonna lie this is actually good - the ambient sound, design and the details about noise use, music production and everything -cinema angle, timed and yeah this is great
For a show that has horror elements and uses Minecraft as a medium, this show is utterly beautiful and perfect. I feel a sense of auditory isolation. The muffled sounds and distractible elements feel so real that it makes this world feels so alive and memorable. The background sounds and voices of people moving about... clicking and clacking of plates and other things being moved about. The soundscape feels so real... like the mansion is so big that you can hear the echoes of work from the other side of house. It's a whirlwind of sounds and activity... Makes the points of silence all the more important and special. The format, the music, the total color palette within the film... I feel both deeply connected to this world that you have brought to us and yet there is a lingering feeling that something is just not right. And it's not Ivory that's problem... I'm excited to see where this story will go with bated breath. thank you for making this!
everything about this was amazing. the ambience noises, sfx, the character designs, the soft voice acting, the camerawork.. holy shit. i loved the entire thing, i love the way it was filmed and everything omg
This is like the third time in years that Minecraft has caught my attention again, and it's all because of this, Whitepine. I wanted to say that the cinematography was amazing, and that one shaky camera part at the end was something I've never seen before. Granted, I have not been watching any Minecraft content lately, but I'm sure that everyone that has watched this could agree that this was overall just immaculate. I'm hoping to see another episode (?) soon, and if it'll take months, then it shall, as long as (hopefully) it keeps its uniqueness and quality.
I watched this with my mum, this is what she had to say :) "This was a real good intro with all the parts that make for an interesting series. I love the light conversations that hint on the mysterious plot developing... and the character development too. In absolute awe of the settings and direction- really amazing !"
But let's be honest, aside from Jess finishing Mystreet because she feels like she has to (and maybe she wants to a tiny bit, she did leave us in the dark and avoid any questions for what.. 5 years?), is it really a MC roleplay when the whole thing is animated in a style that is like 70% Minecraft? Plus Jess doesn't even do MC roleplays anymore, her channel has turned into... whatever it is now.
Ikr there was a series called forgotten land and another called heartless they’re set in the same verse and made by the same people but they haven’t uploaded anything in two years 😭
@@ayonixanimations brain rot ye but tbh i miss the old good days where you come back from a long day of school, sit down with a cola and watch a new episode.
As someone who has been working on my own projects for a while, I can only imagine how much time this took to produce. From the builds, to the cinematography, to the story telling. My word, I can't believe my eyes that there is another high quality roleplay styled series emerging in this day and age! I've always dreamed of creating something like this myself, but I always thought it would fall on deaf ears. But seeing the reception behind this series makes me want to work even harder on my own stuff to see if I can get my act together, and create something similar for myself. Thank you for the inspiration, I'll try to be here for the whole ride!
@@Denis_in_a_pond Roleplays were far more common in the past overall. The ones that were high quality were far and few between sure, but were still more abundant than they are now. Doesnt change my excitement tho, this is awesome!
@@Denis_in_a_pond Oh yeah! I would heavily recommend The1ToFear's channel. His hasn't posted in years, and his stuff is dated for sure, but if you don't mind that, give them a shot! I do warn you though, his latest post was a troll video, so don't judge his channel off that one. Though his stuff like Sundown and Incursion really hit the spot. Personally one of my favorite Minecraft roleplay machinima creators of all time. In fact, even Mumbo has commented on some of his stuff complimenting it. He is, along with a few others, one of my main role models when it comes to what I'm looking to create someday. It looks like I need to add Ivory to that list too.
@@Denis_in_a_pond I thought I replied to this! Ahh! I would highly recommend The1ToFear. I came from tiktok and I’ve definitely enjoyed this, it’s really unique!! I love everything, plus the vibes from this! Also when ivory went down in the basement there was a buzzing sound when the lights were on, and other little sounds through the episode, which I find really cool. Side note but I feel like ivory is very relatable (the whole episode felt really realistic too! It looks really pretty🩷

This is a genuinely fantastic first episode, and amazing for one of your first true cinematic productions. So much is shown to us but we are given almost no answers; we're given clues and hints to past events. Just the way a scene is shot can tell us how the character thinks and feels. Also, I can't mention the cinematography without giving credit to just how genius is was to shoot in a square frame. It gives the production its own unique air to it. This may just be the most well-produced show based in Minecraft, and I cannot wait to see where it is going. Big props to Ivory and everyone involved, I can't wait to see where it goes!
How funny, one day I started thinking about a series created in Minecraft and now Whitepine came out, I guess sometimes we think a lot about something and it becomes reality.
The writing in this is SO GOOD, everything’s show and not tell, you can infer hints from dialogue without the characters just outright telling you, and all the characters seem to be really different and super interesting. I am so excited for the next episode!! Welcome back ivory!!
28:55 I mean I know it’s a searious moment but I couldn’t help but laugh at the fact clown had to tell tel “don’t touch it” like I mean, it’s as if all the servants are children on a field trip and he’s the teacher telling them off
This is a type of storytelling i haven't seen from MCRP in a long time. It's very well produced. The atmosphere is beautiful and haunting and I love it.

my favorite part of this HAS to be the bits of silence. it adds a sense of reality. it isnt a film, it's real life. it's birds chirping and wind rushing by. it's realistic and i love it. also, the acting at the end was crazy, everybody crying and hyperventilating and vomiting was so audibly overwhelming that it works. i love this already!!
You just named all my favourite parts!
I like that even though its minecraft they feel like people, in the streets and the cramped kitchen people try to get out of the way, even though you could technically just walk through but it'd break immersion.
Those were all great. but my favorite part was the sudden camera movement at the end, when throughout the entire thing before it was still, really added to the craze.
the silence reminds me of old fashioned movie design
An amazing little detail I noticed: At 26:38 When Ivory first plays the piano, it immediately cuts off at the first chord, which I found.. strange, at first. But upon rewatch, I realized that it's the first chord of the song used at the end, 'Mountain ash', when the murder is shown. And it just so happens, Ivory first started playing the song when everyone else was asleep, the perfect time to do something without anyone noticing...
FORESHADOWING 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The distinction between "servant" and "slave" is sometimes lost in media (and public perception), so it's definitely nice to see here.
to be honest, I got the opposite impression with the exact same scene about not eating. specifically, the way he said "try to read between the lines, okay?" is particularly dehumanizing - she must do exactly as she's told and nothing else, but she's also scolded for not doing exactly as she's told, and expected to extrapolate. it's a game where she loses no matter what. and when she asked to play piano, he was quick to say no.

A few things worth mentioning:
-The chair and lamppost have both been seen before, in an unlisted video.
The county is likely experiencing a famine/economic crisis and the hemlock family is taking in people who cannot get work
-In the same image of the newspaper, it mentions that there has been a professional hunter who has disappeared in a hunt. He is likely dead too. Perhaps the same person who killed the hunter killed lady hemlock and the maid?
Update: 1.1k likes holy 😳💀
Nice work 👍
When did the maid die?
Another interesting thing:
If you turn on subtitles when everyone finds Mysty’s body, Pyro says “WHY MYSTY” several times in the background, meaning he automatically assumed it was a suicide
Also that the story most likely takes place at southeast England
interesting thing I haven't seen in the comments yet: the names.
Maybe a clue? Good eye!
You can note the butler walking around in some places, we can track his activity my mapping the house.
No, he is there his name is ivo. He is still suspicious, judging by how the shot is framed and his dialouge at the end.
@@supaso1derperhaps the good old "It was the butler!" plotline, similar to that of many old books and storylines. This does seem to take inspiration of those stories, after all.
Also when we first meet him just before 17:00 notice it’s on the servant side of the house and there is no one else there, only reason he’d be so secluded like that is if he’d been given an order, I’m probably overthinking it though
list of cool stuff
- ambient sound design and noise use, music production, basically everything sound related
- cinema camera angles, timed cuts, and aspect ratio (well chosen :o)
- actors (voice and otherwise)
- writing, and character designs (never seen anything in shown in mc as in depth as this)
- creation of suspense (quiet scenes, contrast of volumes, and intensity are amazingly done)
- plot
- pacing (it doesn't feel too fast, like most mc films i've looked at. almost nothing is overdone, and i don't see any annoying cliches.)
- set design (awesome builds, especially the interiors)
- use of symbolism, references to outside media, hidden meanings
- color correction (very under-appreciated aspect of filmmaking)

OMG I noticed that too and literally went to the comment section to point that out!! overall the sounds are fucking insane for a minecraft series
One thing I noticed: Ivory's being called Ivy multiple times
I might be overthinking but it might be a hint since scenes and Ivory herself as a character focus that much on plants.
I guess it might be a hint on what's going on, perhaps on how others feel about her, how they might be suspicious of her even if being friendly. Since ivy can be poisonous, it might hint on Ivory being suspected or being dangerous herself or something. I don't think she really is dangerous but i feel like others can think so
P.s. i love this so much 😭😭😭😭 it's just amazing, I'm rewatching it over and over and showing it to my friends at least since I can't really support financially, it's just a masterpiece
i didnt even think of that! but now you say that i do wonder if there had been a maid called ivy prior to this too, perhaps? maybe another reason why people keep tripping up on that.
@@raeraesmain
Yeah, that would make sense!

It’s amazing.

as a media student, i very much enjoy the use of a wide variety of camera angles. my most common issue with most minecraft shows like this, is that there are only about three camera angles that are cycled through.
It’s an amazing story with many quotes sharing some sort of meaning behind them, it’s lovely.

-Was missing during lunch that day
From what little I can guess is that she was the daughter of some noble (purely because she knows piano) or daughter of a low/mid class servant/maid and there was a piano at that manor.
The point is that I think that Ivory experienced some kind of traumatic event in some forest in her past, possibly being led there by their love of plants.

someone get this woman a film set i need a movie now
Ok and now that I've watched it, I need to rant because this is so good.
The quiet scenes are such a brilliant way to force us to get into her head and notice everything in the room.

Oh yeah and Both dont really care about themselves.

I always had a appreciation of long quiet moments, just environmental sounds, it speaks so loudly.

Oh my god Ivory that was SO GOOD. The OST, the sound design, EVERYTHING.

Yess!! Agree for everything that you said! Ngl I got chills when I read your last two lines oooohhh

@@9767Music Thank you! It takes a lot of practice to get good at writing and typing, and honestly I don't feel like I'm consistently good with words at all, lol that's how I decided on my name, eloquent, or not! Sometimes I can't think of anything to say at all, and that's fine too! If you really want to leave a comment but none of your thoughts are coming out as words, just saying "!!!!!" or some happy/hearts/etc emojis still shows how much you love something, and will definitely be appreciated by the person whose work you're commenting on just as much! Have you seen the "two cakes" comic? It shows at first a baker at a party, holding a small and simple cake, ashamed as they place it next to a larger and more complex cake, but then it shows someone else at the party who's overjoyed that they get to try two different cakes! The point is that people tend to judge themselves more harshly than they judge others, and even if you feel like you can't do something as well as someone else has already done it, it's still worth trying if that's something you want to do!
@@9767Music Thank you! But please don't compare yourself to others and put yourself down as a result, you only see the best of others but the rest of yourself, and even if you can't think of the words you want to put in a comment you can always just say "!!!!!" or emojis etc and the person whose work you're commenting on will still really appreciate it! that's what I been saying!! 😭
not gonna lie this is actually good
- the ambient sound, design and the details about noise use, music production and everything
-cinema angle, timed and yeah this is great
For a show that has horror elements and uses Minecraft as a medium, this show is utterly beautiful and perfect.
Forgot to mention the exceptional voice acting, but I would say that it is already quite obvious, the VAs have done a great fucking job 👍

Where high quality roleplay series more common in the past?

This is a genuinely fantastic first episode, and amazing for one of your first true cinematic productions. So much is shown to us but we are given almost no answers; we're given clues and hints to past events. Just the way a scene is shot can tell us how the character thinks and feels. Also, I can't mention the cinematography without giving credit to just how genius is was to shoot in a square frame. It gives the production its own unique air to it. This may just be the most well-produced show based in Minecraft, and I cannot wait to see where it is going. Big props to Ivory and everyone involved, I can't wait to see where it goes!
