I'm 69 and still getting better and still chasing the dream. It's why I watch this channel all the time.
Ever since you rebranded to Club Champion your lav mics have been SUPER hot. Turn down the gain a bit because all your "S"s are clipping really bad.
Agreed. Don’t try to do it with compression it’s just too loud… even the room sounds boomy. Maybe put up some acoustic treatment. Sounds like you are in a subway station with the reverb. I’m wondering if it’s part of whatever you guys do in mastering the sound. Every “s” or “t” sounds like it’s clipping. Like even the background noise is crazy loud.
Just turn your volume down audio snob lmao
Clipping yep. Knock the gain down plz
Rocket Ronnie is back!!!! So good.
Curious how the Z Star diamond didn’t make it into this test. MyGolfSpy labeled it as one of the best higher spinning balls and it’s one of the fastest off a driver.
This was great to watch. I would be very curious to put these balls up against more budget friendly urethane balls like Tour Response, Q Star Tour, etc.
RONNIE IS BACK BABY
I was wondering Ronnie would have done with the Bridgestone Tour RXS since it is aimed for swing club speed of less than 105mph
Always enjoy when the Rocket comes to visit. He and I are not that different in age and speed, so his stuff seems particularly relevant to me.
RONNIEEEEEEE
Glad Ron is back in tge studio. 👍👍👍
Ron's a machine. What I don't get is that while we're the same age, I hit 15-20 mph faster CH (and 40 yds more carry) with driver, but he hits his 7-iron 20-25 yards further than me! I think that speaks volumes - about my poor iron play! 🤔
So good. Ronnie - you are an icon. My two bits - go with the 'softer' feel, but that is my bias. Well done.
So good to get a visit from Ronnie, make us +50´s hope for many more years with the game. Thx Ronnie, just keep going and look fore the smal gains
Love to watch Ronnie and his tests. I’m now 87 and going on 88, a single digit albeit high single digit 8.6 and my swing speed is more closer to between 80-85 and occasionally on a warm day, maybe 88+-. I wish I had Ronnie’s smash factor (efficiency) of 1.45+-. My driver carry is 180+ and recently got it to 200 occasionally. I too, tested a lot of balls, however, not with the accuracy of your test with Ronnie because it was primarily out on the course. I found the premium balls (Titleist, TS5x, etc. 90+compression) were surprisingly just as long as the softer compression Vice Pro Soft, Srixon Soft with 70+- compression. When I say this, it is my observations w/o launch monitor verification. There might have been 5+ yards difference with an occasional 10+-. The Titleist Velocity when well struck was probably the longest. My major criterion for golf balls, however, is not distance but what was my score after 18 holes and I have come to the conclusion that I prefer the feel of the Vice Pro Soft and I seem to score well with this ball. In addition, the $15+ dollar higher cost for the premium balls is not justified to the $30 a dozen cost of the Vice Pro Soft. With a decent roll after my carry of 180-190 yds, I may get 215-220 with an occasional 225+. My main concentration on the tee is to tee it high and hit a solid shot (maybe 142+- smash factor) with about a 15+ degree launch angle, and hopefully a spin rate of 2500+-, I will get a 210+- yard drive. I can work with this distance because, I am very accurate and keep the ball in the fairway. Last thing, I don’t play the course at longer than 6000 yds. My distances doesn’t warrant playing at 6,500+- yds any more. I know at my age of 87 I’m doing well physically and mentally so I don’t care what others may think when I move up to the front tees for par 4’s that exceed 375 yards from the white tees to the 350+ yard tee. Keep it up Ronny, love your appearances❤ and I always listen to Ian carefully cuz, I don’t know of any other fitter with such knowledge of golf equipment.
@@moweejim you're a STUD! those are incredible numbers for someone approaching 90. I once played with a guy who was 88 and hit his driver about 200-220 total. We were playing the local muni, I was just back to the game, and I think he beat me from the same (short) tees despite giving up 80 yds of driver carry!
I'll bet Ronnie would do well with a Bridgestone BRX. I game the Pro V1X but have recently started to hit the BRX, and it seems to perform just a bit better for me.
I just came here to say exactly this. A great great ball for us older guys with slower swing speeds.
Why are on X versions being tested? I realize what he is playing might have something to do with it, but are the X versions what he should be playing? If so would be helpful for people to hear that explanation, because most probably assume he should be in just the regular line or perhaps a S. Great video as always.
Great video! Why did you test the prov1x and not the prov1? I thought the x is for faster swing speeds?
always cool to see such a clear definitive outcome and the excitement it put into Ronnie.. just scooped some TruTrack Tour X's, looks like won't be disappointed
That explanation on why you botched the ball test last week was awful…😂
Ronnie just try a z star diamond. Low spin woods high spin irons. That ball changes my game.
Love to see Ronnie in your videos. It's meaningful and helpful to me. Thanks
Ian! Looks like your nose got Chinatowned. Speedy recovery!
First off congrats to Ron!! Improving your game each year from 65 yrs old to 69 yrs old is quite an accomplishment. Turning 65 this fall and appreciate the inspiration. Timing of this session is right as I just bought my first dozen left dash Pro V1x’s a few hours before this dropped. I will experiment with my launch monitor against my regular ProV1x’s and analyze the tendencies highlighted in the video. Thanks for the superb and detailed content on the channel fellas. Appreciate how committed the program is to uncovering the slightest opportunities for game improvement. 😊
Testament to Ronnie and his dedication but also to the game of golf itself that one can improve your game going into late 60s...
Do you know why guys get better after 65? RETIREMENT and, therefore, the opportunity to play more than once a week or less.
Very interesting test.
Great test gents! I think what the ball does off the putter should be included, massive factor when I help my team pick their ball.
Would think Srixon 💎would show up in one of these tests?
Our favorite tester is back! Heck yeah guys
Great video! Could come down to sight lines or visuals too. If you like Callaway's triple track or 360 lines that could definitely be the deciding factor.
Did Ronnie follow up after testing each ball on the course? Which option did he go with?
Thanks.
In the pantheon of legendary Rons, there is but one at the pinnacle.
Great call! 👌🏾
Honestly, for him to pick I would have him putt each ball. I play strictly Titleist but if he uses an alignment for putting, the triple track might put it over the edge.
More Ronnie please. Relates more to us older guys with slower swing speeds. At 56 years old My swing speed is 88 with driver and my ball is the prov1x. Keep up the great work guys. Love the channel.
Thank you Ronnie for doing this test for me 46 year old senior. Ballnamic told me I should use Bridgestone tour bx. Any opinion on this ball?
Ronnie is a legend shoud be on every day 🙂
Cheers from Norcal
Congratulations, this was a great video for me.
I would like to see this test done with a player who has a higher swing speed. The firmer golf balls act different with higher swing speeds
It would seem at this point after this test that whatever ball you preferred to putt with would be the gamer.
This video has become one of my all-time favorites! Your storytelling skills are exceptional, and the way you weaved together information and personal anecdotes was brilliant. I found myself feeling motivated and empowered after watching. Your authenticity is refreshing, and it's clear that you genuinely want to make a positive impact on your audience. I'm grateful for this insightful video and can't wait to see more!
Glad Ronnie mentioned the putter, for me that's an important factor. Great job Ronnie!
would have loved to see tp5x in place of left dash...
welcome back Ronnie, return of a legend. Awesome video as always boys, love your work
Legend Ronnie! We need an update when he picks the best ball on course
Always fantastic to have Ronnie testing
TXG shirt! Subtle. Love it!
So what ball did Ronnie choose?
- ProV1X is much more valuable for a faster swing speed with a high launch and (too) high spin. I have a hard time keeping spin under 3000-3200 with regular ProV1X, but can get that down to about 2750 with the -ProV1X, which works great for me.
Ian went into this test determined to tank the - Prov1x. He could have tweaked Ronnie's driver to make the - Prov1x work. Why didn't Ronnie get a tee to match his gamer tee height? Why didn't Ian get a Ronnie to use a tee that would have maximized -Prov1x? Stick to -Prov1x, Ronnie. This ball test was botched.
Nice Showing Ron & Ian, It's really interesting to see the performance of those balls head to head but at $65+ pr Dozen and a high Compression Ball.... Is Ron getting the maximum payoff on a ball that is designed for Golfers with around 100+ MPH Swingspeed?..... I am very curios how Ron might perform with a Titleist Tour Soft or Callaway Supersoft in the Under $40 range? Suited to a lower Swing speed and lower compression for performance these balls are a very pleasant surprise...... Might be worth another Test for visit #19 ? ...Always Great Content Thanks....
Interesting. I’m 68 with swing speed only 67mph with 7 iron. So slow swing speed. Handicap 13. Always keen on advice on brand/model I should consider 😊😊😊
Wilson StaffX
Ronnie, do yourself a favor and pick up MaxFli Tour X. I've been gaming Left dash for 3 years and this ball is ridiculously close to Left Dash in carry and backspin. Your wallet will also thank you
Great content here. Now my question would be would the left dash at some point (higher spin, more speed) outperform the other balls?
I will shoot 3-5 strokes higher per 9 using a ProV1 or X over the AVX, too much side spin on the off hits. I hit my irons sky high so my run out isn't as bad as Ron's but my swing isn't as good either so in my situation it's pick the lesser of the two evils and I'll take a little run on the green over a chip from the woods!
Love it when you fit someone with this club head speed. Same as me. I have a fitting scheduled for July 12th in T.O. Looking fwd to it.
Looked like he had good balance and a very consistent action. Great for this kind of test. Hits home for me because his swing is where I live when I can get my swing to work.
I'm also 69 and have returned to playing golf after 20 years away. In the two seasons I've played I've added over 20 yards of distance, 8 mph in swing speed and dropped 8 strokes from my handicap. If you make the effort (and I've made a real effort) you can totally improve at this age. I anticipate getting down to a 5 handicap or better this year and am looking to drive the 260 to 270 on a good strike. I work out for strength and flexibility, I do speed work, and I hit a lot of balls on a simulator all winter. It takes an effort but my game has been transformed. Old does not mean short and losing strokes.
You could spend a whole week hitting the different manufacturers golf balls. To much choice 😊
Left dash is definitely a ball for players with speed to unlock the advantage of low spin. But Chrome Tour X is the surprise from this video. Worthy option to Pro V1X
Excellent test, enlightening. Going to change balls myself now. Thanks!
So.. they're all really good. But too much $ for me even though I lose one or two at most per round. I just use clean second-hand premium balls purchased from a local guy for 1/3 of the price.
I played Chrome Soft X last year thanks to Ballnamic. Ball performed well, but crappy durability compared to Pro V1x, and my swing speed isn't much more than Ronnie's. Hopefully Callaway improved cover durability.
Kirkland will out perform PROV. I play Wilson DUO Soft $20 doz!
I'm kinda surprised that a Bridgestone was included. I find that it doesn't matter what tour b it is it's going to be longer.
Good test. I get this question a lot about recommending balls for slower or older players. I tell them a prov1x style ball (chrome X, srixon XV/diamond etc...).
Your test doesn't necessarily prove that but has some support. Would be nice to have a slower swinger test the "X" balls versus the lower compression balls with urethane cover, like the Qstar tour, tour response or AVX.
Get stuff!❤
Nice to see you back Ronnie. Ian May I ask should Ronnie’s lie Angle be change a few Degrees? The Toe was till down on all his testing the Golf Ball? Would a thicker Mat be Use on Irons Shots to do better Iron Testing? On Ronnie’s Driver should he Have a Shorter Tee height to be Closer to real Play? Also on Testing Golf balls more hits in the center line be a little truer ? Thanks. And I like Callaway Chrome Soft LS
Just a quick observation. I've noticed in this video and others when you are using the Quad for face data, most of the shots show that it was hit thin. I believe many have found the foresight recommendations for sticker placement are off and the two middle stickers should be lower. You may already be aware and are just using the horizontal info but just wanted to mention it. Thanks.
I am in my 60s and my driver speed is between 85 & 90 mph. I would love to see a comparison of the Pro V1 and new Chrome Tour.
Can you do a full ball test with a GC Quad? As I understand it, it's only measures the initial flight of the ball so will give accurate ball speed and spin rates but I can't see how it can measure the aerodynamic properties of a ball. Manufactures spend time on developing the dimple patterns they use, but I can't see how an indoor test can differentiate the flight property of a ball.
For a casual golfer, there's really not that much difference in any of the three for the guy hitting at that speed. The difference in 1-3 yards, 1 degree launch angle and less than 500 rpm spins for the inconsistent swing of a casual golfer is statistically insignificant.
One number looks very strange to me but Ronnie is only picking up about 20 MPH ball speed between 7 iron and driver. This seems really low.
Really puzzled by some of the discussions in todays video: the focus on standard deviation when high quality balls are being compared seems misplaced because in such a case one can trust that the standard deviation is mostly driven by strike quality variation; the fact that Ronnie had figured out on the course that -Pro V1X was the best for him (even in comparison to the Ballnamic recommendation) why would he believe the distance results based on Quad estimation? I sure hope Ronnie tests the three balls on the course.
Ron might want to try some Srixon Q star tours. I love the divides they make, and the distance they get is great, especially for a soft ball.
What happened to your Nose Ian? I'm turning 70 in a couple of weeks and love this segment
Is there any particular reason you chose the 17g weight rather than the High Launch weight at 11g? I would assume it’s to get a certain swing weight for Ronnie. Just curious
I love that you do videos of different types of handicaps. I’d love to see/help with a “former athlete” fitting. Former athlete being someone who was a college athlete who got into golf in the post athletic years. I started golf super unserious in early 20’s. Now as a 39 year old who is avid in golf but still that mid handicap. I find all your info very interesting. Thank you
great review for us older players - how would the ProV1 compare? I thought the ProV1 was for slower swing speed?
I love seeing the Ronnie videos
Ian iv done Ronnie ping 430 lamkin sonar + grip
The only element I’d add is perhaps Ronnie would like to have a putt before deciding?
Love Ronnie been back. I went for a ball fit in September prov1x was far superior to my old tp5x gamer. Overtime I've found durability much better too
Please do one comparing this ball winners to the next level cheaper balls like tour response stripe, q star tour etc. With Ronnie swing speed.
What effect does dimple pattern have on ball performance and is it acceptable to discount dimple pattern with GC Quad testing?
Great to see a video for the seniors. I found it both helpful and informative. I’ve obviously missed previous videos as it’s the first time I’ve actually seen a senior on your channel. You mentioned that Ronnie is in the top 1% but it wasn’t clear what you were referring to, please can you expand?
Could you please do a Chrome Soft X LS vs Chrome Tour since you claim it's the replacement.
Slower swingers think they need a soft ball but this shows they don't. If Ronnie used a soft ball it would never hold a green.
When are these reviews going to include the maxfli tour series. They have proven to be great balls as good as titleist, callaway or taylormade
Why no consideration for a softer ball with his swing speed as a comparison?
I love it when you have videos featuring Ronnie. I am about his age (68) and can relate to his distances, issues, etc., more than anyone else who swings on your videos. I would love to see a second driver bracket and challenge with Ronnie hitting the golf balls. I would learn a lot from that. Pick eight drivers that would be well suited to him (not to the youngers) and let him go at it.
always great videos when Ronnie shows up being 71 years old with swing speed like Ron it really helps us seniors you need to keep making these videos instead of people hitting hit 300 yards no disrespect Ian your knowledge of golf is unbelievable thanks
This was both entertaining and informative. What about a Mizuno ball for this swing speed category?
Love the Ronnie videos. I have some of the same ball speed and club speed but do not get the same distance etc. Would love to know his fitness program and coaching. I have tested lots of balls this off season and have pretty much settled on the Prov1x. Yellow seems to be better than white.
Any chance you guys can test the srixon diamond vs the same ball
this is all jibberish. hit the middle of the clubface first, then pick a ball.
Great to have Ronnie back in the bay and looking so well (damn I'm just a wee bit jealous)
I hope that he has a great season in 24 and has many more to come in the future
Hopefully 115 is next don’t forget about us 26 year olds
Hope I'm still going like Ron when I'm older. He's in fantastic shape!
Looks like Ronnie could use a lie angle adjustment. Lots of toe down.
Thumbnail has TP5x instead of prov1x
Great video. It is one that I can relate to. Turning 77 this year and still trying to get better. Playing the new Callaway Smoke HL irons to help my ball flight. That with the Chrome Soft ball has made the game enjoyable. Hope to see some more videos with swing speeds more in common with us older guys.
Good video, would have been nice to see a non premium in there - see if there was any real difference at that swing speed
Nice to see Ronnie back dang he’s really good I lose so many balls a round and he can play pro balls really good
great i swing at around 85 myself a bit older at 75 i use mizuno x is this as high spin as the 2 x balls you are testing thanks for great video
Glad to see Ronnie back. He and I are very similar. Both 69 yrs old.
