I’m rewiring two Bs, 1970 GT, 1974 Roadster, all wires are out. Both projects are moribund. This episode helps me a lot. Please continue to show the remainder of the job.
I’ve done at least a dozen complete wiring harnesses over the years. You just have to take your time and be systematic in your approach. In my case, it probably helps that I was a generator mechanic in the army.👍🏻
@@mgbgtguy Oh man, I wish you were closer to NJ. I could pay you to fix both my MGB and convert my MEP-805A to 2 phase! If you are ever on a road trip ....
I let all the smoke out of the ignition circuit in my 77 B earlier this year. I needed to replace the rear loom anyway so I did all 4 looms on the car. 3 full days lying in a puddle in the middle of a British February was brilliant fun to do.
I had to look that one up. That’s newer than the ones I worked on (I was in ‘88-‘96) we had older designs. You know they all produce 3 phase, and ground + any one lug = single phase. Ground + all 3 lugs = 3 phase. I have never heard of 2 phase. 🤷♂️
@@mgbgtguy I just mean split phase (center tap transformer) 240 & 120 like for any US house. Two phases 180 degrees opposed. As I understand it, the older models you could wire as Wye / Zig-zag without any problem to get this, but this one you can't as they don't bring all the necessary wires out of the head / generator (some are connected internally). I guess I have to take the head unit off.

Outstanding video and presentation.
Another outstanding video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video and even better job!!! Thank you for all your work on my B and I’m so glad to have it back on the road and it’s running great.
I'm pretty confident with electrical, but that still looks like a nightmare job to replace that whole harness. You are a brave man!

I have a 77 GT (UK) and none of the wiring diagrams are 'correct' but they do all have enough combined to work it all out.
Also, don't use lamp cord or speak wires to wire up anything in these cars! Except maybe speakers...
i am replacing my harness on my 1974.5 mg midget with one from speedway motors
