I bought a husky 240 Brand new in the accessory case for $100. I was the third owner. The previous two owners could never make the saw run.I bought the tools on Amazon and followed this procedure. At one and a half turns out on both screws, so I would finally start and run, but not smoothly. It would die if I slowly pulled the trigger and would often stall when hot. I slowly turn the L screw in 1/4 turn at a time and the idle speed picked up considerably and smoothed out. I stopped when the screw it was 1 full turn out. the saw starts easily, idles smoothly and transitions smoothly from idle up to full speed with no hesitation. I will try adjusting the H screw someday but right now I am very happy with a saw. Great video. Thank you so much!
Worked perfectly on my Husqvarna 435, called lawn service to purchase the tool and they told me they couldn’t sell it to me. He said only solution was to bring it in to shop for service. For L/H adjustment, 1 and 1/2 turn is to set the regular air/fuel mixture for L/H. At L, fine tuning it by turning the L screw in/out to hear the speed start to drop. At H, pull the trigger and fine tuning by adjusting the H screw in/out to hear the speed start to drop. To adjust the idle speed by turning the idle screw in/out at idle speed prevent the engine stop at idle.
Hey so can I just clarify, clockwise (righty tighty) is leaner, counter clockwise is fatter? I was trying to tune up my saw but now I have it all goofy and I’m afraid I’m gonna blow it up.
So just fully tighten H and L clock wise and start from there? Turning H and L counter clock wise about a turn and half each and start it up to see if it idles and runs better, if not to your satisfaction turn another full turn or so counter clock wise on both H and L until desired running performance? Is that basically how to adjust my 435e?
Usually carb adj does the trick...however there are things that can also effect the way it runs...things like brittle fuel lines that develop pin holes...cracked plastic intake...the list goes on but if the saw ran fine before I would say its gas related
CHeck for bad fuel line, fuel filter in your tank. If there's GUNK in there, then your carb is invariably fouled too. Then once you've replaced the fuel line & filter, and cleaned or replaced your carb, dump out the old fuel and start with new. THEN adjust the high/low settings and idle set screw. Good to go. I love my Husky 137's.
Im about 2 seconds away from throwing my husky in the lake. It will fun but will not idle, and as soon as i touch the chain to wood it dies. Im 1.5 turns out on both. Ive tried adjusting it for about 3 days now.
Putting it under a load may be a clue. Sometimes the fuel line can have a pinhole Or crack in it and it will starve for gas. I've also seen a cracked Plastic intake manifold, and the saw won't run right .
It works in conjunction with the low speed idol as well so it's more of a tuning thing not sure what to tell you in or out but I always start with the low side and adjust to the high side.
When your saw I'd idling turn the idle screw the T hole up till chain starts to spin then back it of till it stops spinning that's as high as you want it. You don't want the chain spinning freely.
Mine was working fine until I hit a metal fence and the chain damaged so I install a new chain and now it doesn’t want to turn on. Please help? Do you think i should replace the spark plug ?

Well I have been fooled by a spark plug once thinking it was good it actually was cracked internally so it never sparked . I've also been down a road similar situation and it was an air gap in the little plastic intake manifold. And of course as always if there is no compression in the engine it won't start.
husqvarna 435 x torq Carb adjustment screw keeps backing out when running. Can set it at 1.5 turns from closed and cut 5 pieces and its backed out at least 10 full turns? Got any suggestions? It's a NEW carb replacement.
Wow that's crazy yes those pins come as kits in rebuild kits 4 carburetors high speed and low speed pins are pretty common Maybe your Spring is just so played out I don't know I've never heard of that backing out 10 full turns from just idling
The screws are just for the air mixture if you can't get it running there may be another problem . However when you screw them all the way to the right it closes the port . Unscrewing to the left allows air into the carb. If you can't start saw with the 1 1/2 turns. You probably have another issue
@@JLafix Thanks for replying. It starts, it just won't idle when I let go of the trigger. When I gun it, it bogs out. The comment below says he also set the idle. So from what you say, this isn't the idle screw, it's the air mixture screw?
@@mad3max3 Yes it sounds like it's just your mixture is wrong so if it bogs down on Full Throttle you gotta tweak the highSpeed jet. Sometimes I tweak the high speed jet while the saw is running at full tilt. Be careful you don't want to cut your leg off So if you can mount it in a vice it would be helpful but the increment that you turn The screw are very Small. You may have some dirt or dust inside the holes themselves so in that case you can take those screws completely out and blow or rinse with carburetor cleaner Then reset them at 1 and a 1/2 turns and go from there
That usually doesn't need adjustment but if you set your high and low and the saw won't stay running without your Finger on the throttle then give a small turn to the right. And of course the opposite way if it's running at high idle.
Seems like you'd have to install the recoil/pull starter to operate the wrong way somehow for that to happen, if it's even possible. Are you sure you don't just have your chain on backwards?
The hi lo adjustments are a one time adjustment until they get out of whack from usually vibrating loose. But if you adjust screws when saw is hot or when running good then you are constantly trying to adjust to running good then your carb is usually the culprit. But they are cheap to buy. Of course there could be other causes. but adjusting your screws cant hurt in any case.
I have the exact same 435 Husqvarna and all two-cycle engines are a pain in the ass. And if Husqvarna could be adjusted by the homeowner without special tools you couldn't charge your friend $45 for two minutes work.
Amen Brother!, it's NEVER this easy to adjust carburator on my Husky 435...I always end up takin it to mower shop & have them do it! The dude just says " grab me a pack of Marlboros & we'll call it even!" 🤨
Good video, so I have a question? When I start my saw , it will run an when I push the throttle it runs good for some time and when I take my hands off the throttle it dies out on me. What would be the problem?
Turn your idle screw clockwise until blade starts to move...then back off a slight bit....you should be good! (Its the screw by itself) usually the one on bottom, isolated by itself (the other screws are H & L.....High & low 🤞
My 240 also does it....and when I make a cut it will die...trying to start it after all that wears out my arm....lol...new spark plug was black after about 2 hrs run time,,,with clean filter....what is my problem...??
By needles do you mean the adjuster pins that you turn. I inherited one and it does the same thing. And what size spline adjuster is for the 440. Thanks.
open up the carb, where the screen is an clean it :) when it's blocked and you give full throttle, it can't let passing through enough gas and that's why it want's to die and runs like crap ;) but when you're about to clean up the screen, you could also do an complete disassembly of the carb and clean up all of it.....can never be wrong :P
Bought a Rancher 450 two years ago. Still had a 1/2 tank of fuel in it, used it two weeks ago, started up and ran perfectly until it ran out of fuel. Refilled it with the same batch of fuel it had previously and then it ONLY start but not idle. Emptied the fuel, mixed another batch 50:1 with New Ethanol free gas (like what I used previously) and it STILL has the same problem. Spark arrestor, Air filter are very clean. Do you recommend that I perform the same carburetor adjustments? Would appreciate an answer, Thanks
If it runs good and just won't idle, there is an idle screw that will give it more throttle, but you cant hurt anything by adjusting the high and low speed air/fuel mix screws.
Not sure what the question is but the idle screw will set the throttle so the motor will run with just enough fuel to keep it running. The high and low screws are set to get the proper fuel and air mixture. Once the fuel air mixture is set then you can adjust the idle screw to your desired rpm while it's idling

Information from the manual:
Carburettor adjustment
Conditions during adjustment
• The air filter should be clean and the cylinder
cover fitted when adjustments are made. Adjusting
the carburettor with a dirty air filter will
give a too lean fuel mixture the next time the
air filter is cleaned. This can result in serious
damage to the engine.
• Mount, for this model, approved bar and
chain combination (see Technical data in the
Operator's Manual).
445/e 16"
450e 16"
• The chain should not be tensioned more than
that it remains ~ 0,2 inches to the bar.
(see figure 42)
Replacement of the H-needle or complete carburettor
1. Carefully screw the new H-needle to the bottom
and turn it anticlockwise ”A” turns.
445/e A = 2
450e A = 2
2. Start the engine. If necessary, adjust the idling
speed with the T-screw until the chain stops.
3. Adjust the H-needle to give a top speed of ”B”
rpm. Use a tachometer.
445/e B = 12500 -13 000, speed limitation
450e B = 12500-13 000, speed limitation

You may have some dirt or dust inside the holes themselves so in that case you can take those screws completely out and blow or rinse with carburetor cleaner Then reset them at 1 and a 1/2 turns and go from there
@@JLafix Ok I'll try adjusting it while it's running. I finally got it to idle ok. Thanks for the video, it did help.
With the idle screw adjustments would that be a full turn and a half also ?
That usually doesn't need adjustment but if you set your high and low and the saw won't stay running without your Finger on the throttle then give a small turn to the right. And of course the opposite way if it's running at high idle.
I live at 7000'. Still 1 1/2 turns on both H and L ?
450 chainsaw is running backwards. Has anyone experienced it?
Seems like you'd have to install the recoil/pull starter to operate the wrong way somehow for that to happen, if it's even possible. Are you sure you don't just have your chain on backwards?
That did it. Thank you so much.
my chainsaw easy to start when it cold.. but hard to start when it hot.. so.. what should i do..? same as you did?
The hi lo adjustments are a one time adjustment until they get out of whack from usually vibrating loose. But if you adjust screws when saw is hot or when running good then you are constantly trying to adjust to running good then your carb is usually the culprit. But they are cheap to buy. Of course there could be other causes. but adjusting your screws cant hurt in any case.
I have the exact same 435 Husqvarna and all two-cycle engines are a pain in the ass. And if Husqvarna could be adjusted by the homeowner without special tools you couldn't charge your friend $45 for two minutes work.
a small screwdriver will work
I have links in my chainsaw video to buy the tools for less than 5 bucks
Amen Brother!, it's NEVER this easy to adjust carburator on my Husky 435...I always end up takin it to mower shop & have them do it! The dude just says " grab me a pack of Marlboros & we'll call it even!" 🤨

Thank you!

Plug in carb adjust tool in Amazon. Several chaep universal kits will pop up
What to do when they have carb adjustment limiters.
I usually break the plastic tabs off. But sometimes you can't do that on some of those goofy situations
Well it's a Jonsered cs 2255 so it is close to a Husq.
@@tonyodom2903 black spark plug means its running to rich or too much oil in the fuel....basically its possibly flooding
Where on a 550xp is the idle screw?
there isn't one. They're electronically auto tuned.
Very useful. Thanks.
What model is?
Its model Ax105hgb75DILDO24 bud
Mine starts and runs but bogs when I try and give I full throttle.
You can take those needles completely out and spray the holes with carb cleaner. Sometimes that helps.
By needles do you mean the adjuster pins that you turn. I inherited one and it does the same thing. And what size spline adjuster is for the 440. Thanks.
open up the carb, where the screen is an clean it :) when it's blocked and you give full throttle, it can't let passing through enough gas and that's why it want's to die and runs like crap ;)
but when you're about to clean up the screen, you could also do an complete disassembly of the carb and clean up all of it.....can never be wrong :P
Thank you
Bought a Rancher 450 two years ago.
@@JLafix Thanks. Will try that as soon as I receive the spline screw driver set.
Is a great video thanks
Good Video...
Great help thank you
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You said NOTHING about the IDLE screw??????????????????
Great info.. the attitude needs a bit of an adjustment.
service manual says 2.25
Might wanna lock that chain up for safety
That's why it's mounted in a vise and you can't lock the chain brake and properly test your adjustments.
🙂👍
the idle wan't important on this?
Not sure what the question is but the idle screw will set the throttle so the motor will run with just enough fuel to keep it running. The high and low screws are set to get the proper fuel and air mixture. Once the fuel air mixture is set then you can adjust the idle screw to your desired rpm while it's idling
@@JLafix thank you!
Got it.
Can't hear anything
