    Hi Kim, I went for my JET interview today with all the advice I gathered from your video. Wow, the interview was really nerve-racking. After the interview, I actually thought of you and somehow just wanted to give you a big thank you hug for giving the advice of "Just be yourself"- it definitely helped me through this interview. Well, I did my best and am so glad that it is over. Now, I am keeping my fingers crossed. My goodness, what an experience.

    I'm about to send in my JET 2022 application this week and I'm really happy that your video came up on my recommended page. :) For some reason, all the details you have emphasized here (about manners, especially) are doing wonders to my mental state. Indeed, the best way to ace an interview is to convey your sincerity through eye contact and just be yourself. Hehe~ Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Teach! Hope you're having a great day!

      Oh wow! Thank you for updating me. I would still recommend being ready to go right on time so being 15 minutes early and on standby would be advisable. I guess with online interviews now, it's best to check and make sure everything is connected and that there are no interruptions to disturb the interview. Good luck!

    As a certified teacher you could come to Japan and stay as a professional working at English speaking international schools. Math teachers, first grade teachers, gym teachers, just like in the US, are hired at elementary and high schools. My school hired teachers from the UK, Canada, the USA and the Philippines. The children are from every continent. Google international schools in Japan.

      Thank you so much for your comment! You're exactly right. In fact, the salary and benefit packages are often more competitive and attractive. The teachers and the students come from all over the world. Another option for certified teachers are at Immersion schools where your students are primarily Japanese nationals (some students are also bicultural or from another country) and the teaching staff hails from all around the world. I've had the pleasure and good fortune to have worked at 2 Immersion schools here in Japan.

    Hi Kim... I really appreciate this video. I'm not certain but i think In Trinidad and Tobago... only the April departure candidates are interviewed during the month of Feb and March. For me who indicated a September departure my interview may be in May. I'm keeping positive that I am selected. Is this a customary process?

    • @Kim.Bandit.Sinbad
      @Kim.Bandit.Sinbad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shashta! Thank you for your comment. The times of the interviews vary from country to country, city to city and I do believe that departure times do play a factor. Since the Japanese school calendar begins in April, I'm sure the JET Programme would like to get the early departure applicants finished first. I was a July departure and I can't remember when my interview was, but I think I received my assignment in May. Fingers crossed and I hope you get the information with your next steps soon! Good luck!

    Hi Kim! I am interested in being a JET participant and bring my spouse along if I get accepted. Do you have any advice for a JET participant who intends to bring their spouse along? Thank you.

    • @Kim.Bandit.Sinbad
      @Kim.Bandit.Sinbad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your message! During my JET days in Tottori prefecture, we had a lot of JET participants who brought along their spouses. The best advice I can give based on what I've observed is to make sure your spouse is just as excited and ready to come to Japan too. On JET, you might be very busy with events and activities as well as adjusting to your new job and sometimes it can get a little lonely for a spouse who might not be able to share in your excitement or work obligations. Some opportunities for your spouse might be doing private English lessons or tutoring or perhaps taking classes at a community center to learn Japanese, cooking, culture classes, etc. Although it depends on where you get placed or who might be in charge of your placement, there are usually renewing JET participants and coordinators who can help you with things like housing and the necessary paperwork for things like health insurance, visas, etc. Good luck and please feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

    Hi ma'am @KimandSinbad, how about the travel expense? Does the JET programme subsidize such expense? Do they require 'show money' when you apply as ALT in Japan? Thanks.

    • @Kim.Bandit.Sinbad
      @Kim.Bandit.Sinbad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark! Thank you for your comment. As far as I know (unless it's changed) the JET Programme pays for your airfare to Japan and will pay for your return flight when you finish the program. This includes the travel expenses (either airfare or train) from the international airport you land at (usually Narita) to your assigned prefecture/city. Your travel expenses are also covered to and from your school or assignment if you need to take public transportation. (It's not provided if you walk or bicycle to school.) Commuting to school by car is sort of a case by case situation. Some places pay for gas/petrol, other schools request that you don't come by personal car. I'm not sure what you mean by "show money" but if you are asking if you need to have a certain amount of money before coming to Japan, I believe the answer is no. Of course there is a certain amount recommended that you bring with you, but if you don't have enough to cover initial expenses, it will be taken out of your first paycheck (so be aware!) I hope that helps!
