Hi Marga! Really informative vids! Planning on taking JET for next year. Can you make a video about your costs and expenses if you can? I saw other videos however most of them are in Interac. I believe JET pays more and just wanted to know how much you can save if you work for JET
Hi Tara ! I'm glad my videos are helping out ! The job descriptions for both the JET PROGRAMME and INTERAC (a dispatch company) are (in most aspects) the same. There is a significant difference between compensation, yes. This information is available on the GENERAL INFORMATION HANDBOOK of the JET Programme which can be found on the www.japan-embassy.gov.ph website. The biggest difference though is that JET is a "EXCHANGE PROGRAMME" . With exceptional performance, a JET participant can be recontracted up to no more than 5 years. Interac, on the other hand, is a contract between a dispatch company and the ALT. I don't know much about their policies but I believe there are ALTs under Interac that have been in the company for more than 5 years. Hope this helps 😊

Hi Teacher, I just want to ask if the competition is high during your application to JET program. Like how many applied and how many got in. Thanks in advance. I like watching your videos very informative. Keep doing.
The JET PROGRAMME is a highly competetive cultural exchange programme BUT BUT BUT there's nothing impossible to a determined applicant 😉 Regarding the number of applicants, that I do not know. Regarding the shortlisted ones, during my batch, we were 41. The next batch, if I remember it right, they were around 50. Hi, po! I am a shortlisted ALT this year and still waiting (in agony) for my placement notification. I was wondering if the placement would be sent by post or email. The Americans were notified by post and the Australians received theirs over the phone or email (lurking in reddit, yes). I have been scouring the internet but I couldn’t find anything for us Filipino ALTs. 😞😞😞
Hi Mira! Firstly, congratulations! As per last year, we received an email containing only the PREFECTURE where we will be posted. You will be notified who/what your contracting organization is also through an email coming directly from them. There should be a coordinator sending you all the other important matters like housing and such. Don't worry though if you don't have these infos yet. At the Tokyo Orientation, you will meet your co-ALTs from the same prefecture and the leader (mostly CIR) of that group should provide you further details 😊 Hope this helps! See you in Japan soon! ❤
Margarette Anne Omg! You replied. Thanks so much, Marga-sensei. ❤️ Last question because I am getting more anxious by the minute lol. When did you receive your email regarding your placement?
I received an email about my placement on May then my CO started sending me paperworks around June. So, the thing is, ESID 😅 Some COs work on their ALT's papers right away and others don't. 😅 Don'cha worry though. They should send you your paperworks before departure, this I'm sure 😊
question in using power point in demo, paano po siya i transfer since bawal mag dala ng laptop and flash drive sa loob? thanks po and also ano usually outfit ng mga guys applicants during the interview. thank you po.
If you made it to the interview and demo, the JICC will send you an email containing the specific instructions on how you'll send them your teaching materials such as PPT. During our time, we were asked to send it through email before a given deadline. As per what I've observed from my male co-ALT applicants back then, they wore semi-formal attire (black slacks, white polo, coat/suit to top it) but remember that you would like to feel comfortable as you execute your lesson content so select an attire that looks both presentable and that you're comfy in. Hope this helps!
Hi Pooja Samant ! The best advice I could give is read the APPLICATION GUIDELINES to your heart's content. It has all the instructions and not one ALT could cite all its content. Good luck 😊
Hi Margarette! Your video is really helpful. I am working on my documents now for the 2021 batch. Thanks a ton!
Really appreciate your videos. 💟 May I know if you have a TESOL certification? Or what I mean is, does JET Programme prefer those with language proficiency certification?
Hi Ruvelyn! Yeah , I got a TESOL certification. This NOT A REQUIREMENT though. Honestly, I couldn't speak in behalf of the paper screening committee because I don't have a single idea what extra qualifications they prefer BUT I can personally advice you to get a TESOL certification because I believe it helped me prove that I am competent to teach ESL students. Good luck ! 😊
Good day teacher marga,I just want to ask regarding for the letter of referrence, kailangan po ba latest? Kasi meron kasi akung letter of reference 3 years ago, pwedi ko pa ba to gamitin?
So I had my interview earlier. OMG. Your tips proved very helpful, Miss! I felt prepared of what was coming, and I enjoyed my time in the interview and demo! Thank you so much for making this video. This is such a great help!!!
Hello teacher! Wonderful video! Thank you so much for that! And secondly- i have a question i'd be glad to hear anything back from you! The question- i am also from a non native english speaking area in asia and i nearly fulfil all the requirements but i've got only one deficiency which is the"12 consecutive years of english taught education". unfortunately i don't have it! But i do have a degree in English literature! Am i eligible to apply for any alt position! to any company among all ...?
Hi! Thanks for your continued support. So, about your question, that part of the eligibility criteria entails your basic education mainly from Elementay to High School. So, if your country's SECOND LANGUAGE is English, you automatically pass that requirement. If your country teaches English as an EFL, this may mean you have to prove your basic education to have been taught in English. For example, to have studied in a school with International Baccalaureate and K-12 curriculum or to have studied abroad where English is a native language. This is from what I remember and didn't confirm it with the JET Programme officers, so it will help if you send them an inquiry regarding this matter ☺️ Good luck!
@@margaretteanne2429 oh i get it now but that's where my problem is i didn't study in a english meduim school or in a international school in this country but in india english is spoken as a first language, 2nd language and sometimes as a 3rd well spoken language! Hello teacher! I just want to ask, I sent my documents via lbc. Is it normal for them to have a code name "Red Palamig" for the authorized representative recipient? I tracked my package via lbcexpress tracker and it shows that it was received by a an authorized representative named "Red Palamig". I'm bothered and I'm thinking of sending and email inquiry to the embassy regarding it. But before I do that, I would like to ask you if having a code name is normal? Thank you in advance.
Hi ! I was secretly laughing inside my head while reading your inquiry. Okay.. Yeah, the name sounds a bit suspicious BUT if this name was given to you directly by the embassy and they said it is authorized, I don't see any reasons for you to worry. It would be wise to send the JICC an inquiry regarding the receipt of your documents. I personally went to the embassy to submit my documents but I heard from other co-ALTs that they emailed the embassy to re-assure the receipt of the docs. Good luck! Red Palamig sounds a bit dodgy but it could a actually be a legit person's name (like in real life LOL) .. just saying 😅 Good luck!
Hello, napunta po ako dito kasi stuck ako sa 3 choices of assignment. Ano po sinulat niyo po dun nung nag apply pa lang kau? Dun po ba kau na assign kung ano sinulat niyo?😊
Hi Krystal. Regarding the assignment of prefecture or city/town, you can express your three ideal placements and describe why you want to be posted there BUT this doesn't guarantee you'll be posted in any of these. The programme officers and the demand dictates where you'll be posted.
Hello.. i just want to ask if Masters Degree in Education give additional score on the first phase of the application? I am a Master of arts in teaching Physical education
Hi ! This I do not have a clue. The screening officials don't really reveal some kind of criteria of scoring. So, I think ths makes the whole application process a bit tricky but what I did during my time, I made sure I SHOWED OFF every credential and skill I believe I had to make my application more appealing than others. On the application form, there are sections that you'll fill up and through this, if you're smart and strategic enough with your answers in these sections, you can definitely highlight your credentials and qualities (as long as you strictly follow the instructions on how to fill up the form) . Hope this helps! 😊
maraming salamat po sa tips. question po ano po bang mga topic ang pwedeng gamitin during demo teaching for highschool students? any suggestions po pls? how do we know if the topic chosen for the demo is appropriate lesson for the target students? sana po masagot thank youu
Hello teacher Margarette! Thank you for this helpful video! :) I have a question regarding the recommendation letters. Should they be placed in sealed envelopes? Thank you! :)
Personally I'd say yes you can do that because this was what I did. Not unless it's on the guidelines to not do so. I haven't read the latest copy of the Application Guidelines so please do check. Also, I asked my referees to sign across the enclosing flap and body of the envelope. Hope this helps! 😊
Hi Aries ! I went to WELLCARE Clinics because it was just nearby. If I get your question right, are you currently filling out your application? Even a non-POEA accredited clinic will be honored to fill out your Physician's Statement. Remember that this document is actually a Physician's personal letter to JET so whichever clinic or hospital your physician is working, this shouldn't be a problem.
@@msbivibes Hi ! I did resign from DepEd because I was adviced to do so. This should be a case-to-case situation though. You can talk to your Principal regarding this matter.

Hi Margarette! I learned a lot from this video. I'm planning to apply this October/November 2020 opening. In case I want to change some parts, are the applicants allowed to use correction tape during the essay exam?
@@williamgonzaga3962 You will not need any kinds of a physical ERASER -- whether it be plastic eraser, white touch, or friction pen eraser, you won't need it.
I would say that you should submit your resignation letter maybe 3 weeks prior from leaving. Once you're 100% sure that your going through with it. The last thing you want is to quit your job and 2 weeks before your departure date you get nervous and back out.
Hi Ms. Marga! Based on the guidelines, JET applicants can bring their dependents with them. Is it okay to mention your intention of bringing your family with you during the interview or not?
I am not sure about other OFWs' job category but for the medical check-up I took for the JET Programme, there was no need to strip all of your clothes except during the scrotum check and breast check.
If you mean MASTER DEGREE, YES if it will not hinder you in fulfiling your duties and responsibilities as an ALT. For instance, being a part-time online MA student.
Hello po! Aspiring applicant here. Just wanna ask a question. Is it ok to use the 4'As in lesson planning? Hope you can answer this question. Thank you!
If I remember it right, 4A stands for Activity, Analysis, Application, and Assessment, doesn't it? Well, this is a lesson plan patterned from the learning competency of Filipino students generally. This is a very comprehensive lesson plan pattern and during my time of teaching in the public school, I did use it and in most occasions, Filipino students learned effectively through it. Though, you have to keep in mind that Japanese students (depending on your target grade and their level of proficiency) are studying English as a Foreign Language. So, for me, this lesson plan is a bit too rigid. I would suggest you to study about EFL and ESL lesson planning. Though, the key to a successful learning process, no matter the LP pattern you opted to go for, just remember to align the difficulty of your content to the level of proficiency of your students. (Input Theory. Hehe)
@@margaretteanne2429 Ohh... I see sensei. Thank you so much for your answer to mu question. If you don't mind, may I ask again what lesson plan did you use?
I used a lesson plan I modified myself from what I learned from my TESOL course. It was simplified and straightforward. Motivation, Intro, Content, Activity/Drill. Hope this helps! ☺️

Hello Teacher Anne, can you please share me some questions you've gathered for the interview? I am interested to apply for this program. I hope you could help me.😊
Dear question, if you’re from JET programme and your contract expired, can you apply for another program let’s say, Interact or find a direct hire? Also i have no classroom teaching experience, does volunteer work and online ESL teaching enough? Thanks!
Your endeavours after your contract ends with the JET Programme is solely your decision, so wether you decide to apply into a private dispatch company such as Interac or apply into other non-government funded programme, this is not a concern to the JET Programme ☺️
They accept graduating/candidate for graduation applicants given you will provide them a certificate of graduation upon application. Though I've only known this happen actually for US applicants. Not that I am discouraging graduating applicants but since there is a high competition in the JET Programme, to be more confident with your application, I would advice you guys to graduate, earn experience, and improve your credentials then give it a try. Gambatte! 😊
Hi Ros! It is not a requirement. Though if you already have one, it is a plus factor to show that you're genuinely interested with Japan and its language. Good luck!

Anyway thankyou very much for ur response i appreciate that! (Stay safe)..:)
Thank you very much!

This was also my case. 😍
Hiiii po ma'am, good day nag JLPT exam kapa po ba?

Hi po. For the demo, 5mins only as stated in the email. I wonder how to deliver my lesson from review to closure in 5mins only. Any suggestion po?
Hi Maam. Is it required to have a Certification of Japanese Language Proficiency? Can you apply overseas?
Hello teacher Margarette! Thank you for this helpful video! :) I have a question regarding the recommendation letters. Should they be placed in sealed envelopes? Thank you! :)
Personally I'd say yes you can do that because this was what I did. Not unless it's on the guidelines to not do so. I haven't read the latest copy of the Application Guidelines so please do check. Also, I asked my referees to sign across the enclosing flap and body of the envelope. Hope this helps! 😊

Hi teacher margarette :) i just wanna ask, what POEA accredited hospital or clinic you visited for the statement of physician? Thanks alot :)
Hi teacher Margarette! I just wanna ask: did you resign in deped? is it alright not to resign since the program is just a short period?
Thanks alot teacher marg. I have another question, lets say u were not able to complete the program or ur contract were not renewed by ur mother school, is it a must that u need to come back in the Philippines or u may look for ur new employer in Japan? Thank u for helping us in our queries. :)

hi! are the one who looked for your apartment? or the government helped u to find one? thanks!
Hi ! Since I wasn't the first ALT in town, the housing was already arranged for me. It is likely to happen to ALTs with predecessor. There is also one arrangement that I became aware of from my co-Pinay ALT in Tokyo. She looked for a housing/ an apartment herself and told the BOE/school about it and the location was approved.

Nope. Not at all. It's just a plus point on your application if you have one. 😊
Ma'am, do we really need to be and Educ graduate or just a Bachelors Degree in any field will do?
No, any 4-year course is accepted. Read through the General Application Guidelines, please 😊
haha.. curious question? only if you happened to know.. any age limit with the JET Prog or anybody u know who is roughly about 40s?
I'm pretty sure they have it written on the application guidelines but I just don't remember coz it didn't concern me then. I know one or two who are in their 40's already in JET, yeah..

@@anikarivera5620 Wait... I think a got a bit confused 😅 Yeah it was last week of January when I received a call from them and 3 days later, I did my interview and all . Sorry I am still a knuckle head at 7am 😂😅
Usually applicants receive an email containing the schedule and you'll have to send them a confirmation reply. I was at work when they sent me an email so I didn't see it right away. They had to call me to reconfirm my interview schedule because they sent me the wrong schedule. So, it was like kinda rare for them to call the applicants one by one to tell them the news.

Regarding Figures of Speech, it is rarely a part of the lessons in actual classes here in Japan. I would suggest you do your research about teaching ESL class patterned lessons because this is the general approach of teaching English in Japan. Though, if you believe you'll be able to make the lesson fit for your target students and it'll also showcase your teaching skills, go in with it. Gambatte 💪

Hi Margarette!
I learned a lot from this video. I'm planning to apply this October/November 2020 opening. In case I want to change some parts, are the applicants allowed to use correction tape during the essay exam?
Hi William! There will be no need at all 😊

@@williamgonzaga3962 You will not need any kinds of a physical ERASER -- whether it be plastic eraser, white touch, or friction pen eraser, you won't need it.
@@margaretteanne2429 ok I get it now. It might be online type of exam. Anyways thanks for the time.
Hello sir. May I just ask how was your application?
When did you resign from your work? When you knew already that you passed everything?
I would say that you should submit your resignation letter maybe 3 weeks prior from leaving. Once you're 100% sure that your going through with it. The last thing you want is to quit your job and 2 weeks before your departure date you get nervous and back out.
Hi Ms. Marga! Based on the guidelines, JET applicants can bring their dependents with them. Is it okay to mention your intention of bringing your family with you during the interview or not?
Hi.. sorry I'm only seeing this now. I don't have an insight regarding this question po coz it didn't apply to me.

Good day, Maam. Is driving license a requirement for ALT application in JET PROGRAMME?
Driver's license is not a requirement .

Do you think they are particular with age.
I didn't specifically check these details before but surely if there's an age limit, they would indicate it on the application guidelines ☺️

Hello Ms. Margarette, I have a question regarding JET programme. Is it okay to go for higher education while in jet? ^^
If you mean MASTER DEGREE, YES if it will not hinder you in fulfiling your duties and responsibilities as an ALT. For instance, being a part-time online MA student.
Hi Ma’am. Can I ask? Naga accept po ba sila ng undergraduates sa Jet program pero sure na po gagraduate?
If you're still about to graduate, you can submit your certificate of graduation in lieu of a TOR. Hope this helps! ☺️
Margarette Anne Thank you so much Ma’am!💖
Is the exam, essay?
Also maam, I am an English major, do I still need to have my TOEFL or TESOL certificate for this application?
It's not a requirement to have one.

Yes.. As long as you are a Filipino citizen and willing to come back home to PH for the interview and the likes. Check Japan Embassy PH website for the eligibility criteria.
Hello Teacher Anne, can you please share me some questions you've gathered for the interview? I am interested to apply for this program. I hope you could help me.😊
Thanks for the info teachr
Dear question, if you’re from JET programme and your contract expired, can you apply for another program let’s say, Interact or find a direct hire?
Also i have no classroom teaching experience, does volunteer work and online ESL teaching enough?
Thanks!
Your endeavours after your contract ends with the JET Programme is solely your decision, so wether you decide to apply into a private dispatch company such as Interac or apply into other non-government funded programme, this is not a concern to the JET Programme ☺️
Nagaacept po ba sila ng fresh graduate? Or undergraduate? Na maga graduate pa lamg po?
They accept graduating/candidate for graduation applicants given you will provide them a certificate of graduation upon application. Though I've only known this happen actually for US applicants. Not that I am discouraging graduating applicants but since there is a high competition in the JET Programme, to be more confident with your application, I would advice you guys to graduate, earn experience, and improve your credentials then give it a try. Gambatte! 😊
Hello po. Is JLPT certificate required po?
Hi Ros! It is not a requirement. Though if you already have one, it is a plus factor to show that you're genuinely interested with Japan and its language. Good luck!
