Yes, that's what I said last year too! Always fun though.

Quick note to anyone watching this. Go to TH-cam settings and select a higher quality of resolution.

@@captainfrank01 on my device it starts as 720. I always hit the settings to go to the best possible especially when watching you or Robbie. At the higher level I can actually see the fish.

@@glenbaker4024 Fair enough, I can identify with the 'actually see the fish' line!

@@captainfrank01 I think TH-cam automatically sets a lower resolution but for your videos it’s well worth opting for the highest quality possible.

    Looked like fun.
Ever tried soft plastics or other lures to get up off the bottom a bit?
I'm heading down to the Grampians in a while and might chuck in some basic freshwater stuff.
Well I'm going if something ugly doesn't pop up like it has for the last 3 years I've been trying to get there.................
    Cheers.

It was fun and yes, have used SP's in there and caught trevally, snook, salmon trout and flathead - best done late in the day on a full tide with a berley pot. Good luck in the Grampians, hope you get there OK. Going to Victoria soon myself for some fishing so watch this space!

      @@captainfrank01 Notifications on mate.
Yeah hopefully I will get there but fishing will only be a bit of fun and will hopefully be doing plenty of exploring.
2 x 4wd's so we should be able to get most places.
      Cheers.

Nice squeaky reel real teeth grinding sound what kind of reel is it just curious. Also at least be happy the bream have a bit of size to them compared to the real midgets in west lakes that would be about 7 to 12 cm sometimes the odd 30cm and also the very few and far between the kgw. Also got back from my holiday had a few sessions at the carp pond it’s also worth noting there are heaps of small reddies in there while I was carp fishing every 10 minutes or so you would see about 4 red fin chase the crap out of the school of mosquito fish so I tried a little red fin spinner and sure enough it was pretty easy to catch them even tried using mosquito fish as live bait also works but in the 4 sessions I had there I think I got 12 carp 2 of which were huge like 10lb or so. WVD also produced a good amount of catties only using worms I think I had 4 sessions there and caught 17 catties still unable to get a carp out of wvd. Also had a cracking session down at warren got a nice haul of about 40 red fin all caught on the same lure at the pontoon there. Also caught my first cod at happy valley reservoir the blocks of cheese seem to get the job done. Overall I had an amazing 2 weeks with my grandfather we still teach each other about fishing tips and what to use etc even though he had 60 years on me 😂.

It's a very old Silstar BT60, and the noise was only the handle, not the gears - a dab of grease fixed the problem. I hope you left some carp in that pond for me. I can't be bothered with tiny redfin tbh. Sounds like you did pretty well while you were here.

@@captainfrank01 haha yeah don’t worry there are plenty of carp in there I only saw one other guy fishing there but he showed me a photo of a 20 pounder he caught a few weeks ago. Also I would highly recommend not even bothering to fish with corn just go all bread and fish unweighted I used two 7 foot rods 2-4kg with 2500 spinning reels with 10lb braid and 8lb fluorocarbon trace which is mainly what I use for bream and whiting and salmon trout but real good fun on super light gear also the hook size I was running was a size 6 suicide hook. I think the reason I’m doing better fishing now is because I’m getting older and I have nothing better to do in my spare time so I just soak up everything I read and listen to.

’im really in the lost in to were all the big carp have gone in WVD I’ve probably fished there 3 dozen times and all I’ve ever caught is turtles and catfish but I’ve seen huge carp in there around April last year but haven’t seen them since. I also have learned alot about the urban carp like they completely shut off after 12:00pm and also found that corn was having no interest in the slightest bit and the bread seemed to be the way to go have your drag set extremely lose basically free lining bread with no weight other than the bread and hook. Carp are finicky little bitters even the big ones. If I’m fishing at WVD I usually start around 7am I wish it could be earlier but pops is a bit old. another thing I noticed is there are alot of people fishing at WVD and they all have great big snapper leads with 30lb monofilament and a size 2/0 hook. And when ever I hook into a cattie
They would come running around the other side of the dam and say you must be a local and spend alot of time around here and I tell them I’m just on holiday and I love fishing so I try and make the most of it while I can and then people say oh I saw a video of a guy fishing here -
You. I’d get people saying they’re are no fish in here. So I think we get the point there are alot of people who don’t know what they’re doing but there are also alot of people who do know what they’re doing so it’s really been hammered the poor little pond and I wish the council would clean up around WVD on the other hand “carp pond” has the. Council there every second of the day I don’t think I saw a single bit of rubbish in there. I would love to see you try some of the things I do but hey everyone does something the way they like it.

@@matthewyates2830 If you look closely at my carp videos, you will see that I rarely if ever, use any weight, fish mostly bread and freeline! I also only fish early for a couple of hours. Good to know that I'm 'famous' 😁

@@captainfrank01 yeah but you’re probably younger than my grandpa so i guess you got a bit more drive to throw your self out of bed and fish the first light. I stuck here were I am for now but I’m coming down for a whole month yay! In mid June through to mid July i know shitty time but wait until you here were im staying my grandparents house for a 3rd port Elliot for the other third and semaphore for the other third…… oh boy. We were going to stay in Morgan for 2 weeks but shak was flooded. Doesn’t matter anyway the weather is terrible my mom keeps wanting to go to all these shit places in South Australia and she doesn’t realise that there is 5000 other kilometres of coastline but no f@&king port Elliot and I can’t forget semaphore. At last it will be a brake from the shit hole we’re living in perhaps a night fish on the little port Elliot jetty with big live baits and fresh dead baits might produce a winter mulloway or a shark or a ray I know the elephant shark hang around that area in winter as well as 7 gilled sharks.

Cod liver oil or WD 40? Which do you recommend for a ‘squeaky’ reel?

    • @captainfrank01
      @captainfrank01  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Have used both but prefer to use a quality reel grease like Mitchell or similar (and did immediately after that session!). I don't think I would want WD40 on my hands when fishing.

@@captainfrank01 I’ve heard a lot of people saying it’s not only a good lubricant but also an attractant. I’ve just been using canola oil spray for years.
