CAVE DIVER REACTS TO JIGGIN' WITH JORDAN "CAVE DIVING"

  • Here's my reaction to one of the many videos where this super popular TH-camr claims to be diving inside a cave. Spoiler alert: he's not.
    I was originally going to ignore this video because I already reacted to a video from another TH-camr calling Hospital Hole a Cave so I just left a comment on his video sharing some of my thoughts and concerns, and he just went ahead and deleted my comment...so here we are.
    Original Video: • Exploring 130ft DEEP C...

    Brandon Jordan has more money than sense. His you tube stardom want due to his being a good diver, it’s due to his ability to trick people into clicking on his videos as you said earlier Gus. It’s sad that so many blindly follow tubers like this. My son and I want to learn to dive. My son started watching this character and was reporting back to me with all this cool information. I said who is this dive god and low and behold he’s said, Brandon Jordan. I did 5 min worth of research and told my son that BJ was not a real diver and listening to him would ultimately get us both badly hurt or dead. Anyway, thank you Gus, for setting things straight. I had my son watch this video and he now fully understands the negative impact BJ could have in a new diver. This is very dangerous and careless of him. I applaud you Gus, for having the insight and courage to let people like my son and I to learn and know what this character fails to do. I don’t believe he is certified in anything other than you tube and maybe shallow water iPhone and sunglasses recovery. Thanks again Gus!!

He lured me in with the finding guns in the river but when he went on to overly dramatize all the titles of his videos, he lost my attention. You called it. My favorite was when Jordan visited our local quarry (Gray Quarry near Kingsport, TN) and made two videos from his dives there. It was a big deal to everyone at the quarry and I guess it was kind of cool at the time. But then when the videos made it to TH-cam and we saw them for the first time I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the horrible titles. Lost airplane found in abandoned quarry? I wanted to grab the guy and scream "come on!" Abandoned?! It's a dive destination with entry fees and infrastructure, etc. We even had a huge event around the sinking of that plane. Local shops and clubs were welcomed to add their stickers to the plane before sinking. Really turned me off of the guy's work. Shortly after that I did cheekily produce my own video and called it 'Deep and Dangerous!' where we install an underwater communication device in that quarry... (We plugged in a cell phone and cell phone charger into an outlet on the houseboat at 70 ft deep 😁🤣).

I used a FFM when I would work for 4-5hrs underwater and when your working with a 10-12 inch in Diameter hose and stirring up sand and especially when Bad weather would hit, on Good days, your Vis would be like maybe 1-2ft, most days your vis was maybe 5-6 inches while working the sea floor. Add complete darkness * I worked the night shift * and almost zero vis, That is what I would call * murky * conditions lol, that water was so crystal clear that he was diving in lol.

      I dove Hospital Hole recently with a buddy after a day of heavy thunderstorms. The surface was so tannic, the only way we knew we were even IN the hole itself was when our computers hit the mid-high teens in feet of depth and we hadn't struck the river bottom yet and the hydrogen sulfide cloud was already present at 27 feet. Called the dive at 32 feet when I couldn't see any part of my buddy except the face of his dive light, and had to come back to the surface to tell which direction the boat was along the shore.... and these fools think they had "bad" visibility lmao

They use Tri-Mix and other methods and have uptop monitors and dive help some it’d be cool to see you guys react to some things they do because it’s not safe by any means.

    I have a question! I also use an Air Integrated computer, but I still have a SPG... I was under the impression that it was necessary as a secondary device to see the amount of gas remaining. Are you saying that I can actually get rid of the SPG?

    • @DIVETALK
      @DIVETALK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did. AI integration rarely fails, just like SPGs. As long as you make sure your transmitter and computer both have battery and you accept the fact that you might have to end a dive prematurely if one of them dies or fails for some reason then you can get rid of that SPG.
      The best thing about using AI only (in addition to not having an extra hose) is that if it fails you will most likely not lose your air in the process. When an SPG fails you are looking at a leak out of your high pressure port.

    Hi Gus. One thing I think you miss in this video and possibly the most dangerous component is that Jordan is wearing a Co2 inflatable pfd made by hyde. His bcd is over the inflatable pfd. If he accidentally pulls that white triangle on his left chest it will activate the Co2 cylinder and inflate the pfd an he will skyrocket to the surface at high rate of speed. This can kill a diver even if they are diving within non deco limits. Super dangerous!

  • @W3TIC3

    Ive got a question. You mention often that you're fine to spend 5 minutes at 130ft before ascending without having to make stops.
    Question: assuming you've just spent your 4-5 minutes down there, to what depth must you ascend, and for how long, before you can return to that ~130ft area for another 5 min without deco?

    • @DIVETALK
      @DIVETALK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You go to the surface, complete a surface interval, and then you can go back down eventually to 130 ft...but not on the same dive.

    • @Leo532141974
      @Leo532141974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The depth you must ascend to is the surface! There are formulas and computer programs that help a diver calculate how long the wait needs to be before doing another dive to depth without requiring decompression time in the water. In the case of a 5 min dive at 130 feet you would only require 3 minutes at the surface before you could do another of the same depth and time. But if you did it a third time you would need to wait 10 minutes before safely doing it again, and the surface time increases greatly with each additional dive. Bottom line is that calculations and data are required to know what is safe before the dive begins.

    Question for you... at 32:30 you said that he shouldn't have an SPG along with the dive computer... Why is that? I dive with the computer as well as an SPG for backup. I am only advanced.. Haven't made it to "tech" as I am currently stationed overseas.

    • @Yggdrasil42
      @Yggdrasil42 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some tech divers feel having both increases your risk because you'll have more o-rings and parts that can break. Others feel the added redundancy adds more safety than risk. For recreational diving it doesn't matter that much. When your SPG or computer breaks, you shouldn't continue the dive. You abort the dive and you should have enough gas remaining to surface safely. Tec divers should have enough gas awareness (and planning) that they can also safely finish the dive.
