S23 owner here: It is definitely an astonishing phone, and I dont get the hype of Pixel 7 and 8 at this point. Yes they are great value for money, BUT the S23 still has way better build quality, connectivity, display, waaay better efficiency which makes it last 2 days easily, tele lense, video stabilisation, photos look natural, faster charging and a stable system since day 1. As a long time Pixel user, currently using a P7P, I am really finding it hard to justify upgrading to the new Pixel 8 lineup with the new price point and Tensor 3 chip BS.
Google phone hardware at best are average, especially coupled with the Tensor processor and it's mediocre performance, only thing that's kept me using a pixel is Google's computational photography and call screening feature. well s23 is older than the pixel 8. after the release of s23 family, the others have room to create a better device, samsung always set the bar at the start of the year, and the rest, they all have time to surpass that bar. so if pixel and iphone is better than s23, it is normal co'z they have studied the months older samsung. but if samsung is still better in a some major aspects, it is a shame on pixel and iphone

I have a S23 Ultra and am pretty happy with it. I love the phone, I use for pretty much everything in my life (organising, taking notes, camera etc). The battery definitely holds up well and am happy I got the phone earlier in the year. I said to my wife the other day the only phone that could make me switch would be a Pixel phone. However, I feel the Pixel 8 Pro is not the phone to move me away, at least not for now. I will either go to a S24 Ultra (depending whether they give us Europeans ass Exynos) or get the Pixel 9 Pro next year.

Pixel 8 has outdated hardware. UFS 3.1 storage only instead of UFS 4.0 like in the S23 256GB version, optical fingerprint sensor instead of the faster ultrasonic one on the S23, the UBS-C port of the Pixel still doesn't support display out and there is no alternative for Samsung DeX. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is still faster and more efficient than the Tensor in the Pixel 8 which is produced by Samsung, actually most components in the Pixel 8 are from Samsung. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be out soon and the Tensor will look even worse in comparison. Battery life on my S23 is definitely better than on the Pixel 8, most other tests confirm that. S23 also runs smoother while scrolling and apps open slightly faster and especially cooler altogether. Tensor chips, which are based on Samsung's Exynos chips are known to be less efficient and having heat management problems, which is probably why Samsung switched to the Snapdragon in the first place. The Pixel could be much better with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or 3, that's just a fact. The Face Unlock function on the Pixel 8 doesnt work when it's dark, even in dimly lit environments it already couldnt recognise me anymore. Most of the AI features, most of which are only gimmicks to me by the way, will be available on the S23 soon too when the Android 14 update drops.
All in all, it's hard to recommend the Pixel 8 over the S23, especially since the S23 is cheaper, in Germany around 150€ actually at this point. The Pixel has outdated hardware now already, that just doesn't make sense since Google is trying to lure people into buying it with the 7 years of updates promise, which is only a promise at this point. Who will actually use a smartphone for the next 7 years? If it were at least easy to swap the battery on the Pixel 8, but it's not. Who knows what will be with the smartphone market in 3, 4 or 5 years...

Exactly, it always amazes me that people look at 7 years support and buy it for that. Like they don't have any sense of time. The special features, cameras and speeds that will be available in 2030. 95%+ will have bought a new phone in 7 years for sure.
The S23 lineup this year is very very good. Especially, considering prices going down fast. Already seeing 128mb version going for around €500. When s24 comes out, much lower. Honestly, s23 lineup is king of 2023 imho. Then again, people buy inferior technology all the time, just to be different or stuck to certain eco systems.

Every plus size/pro version has had good enough battery life to get you through a heavy day of use but the smaller ones battery just cant cut. Especially if you're traveling and using your phone to get around and take photos. Google the creator of Android. A softer company cant figure out how to give their phones amazing battery life. Gonna be honest here. Been a Samsung user for the last 5 years. When I decided to upgrade a few weeks back, I looked at the S23 lineup and I was honestly very let down. As a consumer and as a buyer spending my hard earned money on a phone, the Samsung lineup truly does not feel justified for the price point it's at. When I was looking at options, I really started to double-think everything that I use in a phone and it led me to the realization that most of what Samsung phones offer - it's all just fluff. Apart from Samsung Wallet, they really do not offer much substance. I realized that there's nothing the S23 Ultra can do that my current S20 Ultra (3 years old) can not do (apart from the better cameras). And even with the better cameras, the price difference just is not justified. Specifically not for the S23 and S23+. They literally look the same as the A series phones and they're half the price. The competitive edge that Samsung once had over others, is now diminishing. And they've gotten lazy only focusing on Cameras and bigger phones. The Pixel is a far more exciting device to use. And for the price Pixel is at, it's a no-brainer.

Gonna be honest here. So why do you need an upgrade? If your Galaxy S20 Ultra can do everything the same as phones released in 2023? Do you think that you will use AI in Pixel 8 every day? I assure you, no. A week after the purchase, you will also return to basic needs -> telephone, instant messengers, social networks. And don't tell me you need a pixel 8 camera. You will never in your life guess which smartphone a photo was taken on if this photo is uploaded to any social network. So all this chatter is about some company going downhill and another one has gone far ahead, this is just complete stupidity.

@@dmitriikonovalov7956 this "chatter" is about all the money we're paying companies. Use your phone any way you want to, you're free to do that, but are you really willing to neglect the fact that the difference between phones at different price points is becoming smaller and the hefty price tags aren't fully justified anymore. I'd say you're either very very rich or use your daddy's money.
"You will never in your life guess which smartphone a photo was taken on" - so why pay $1000-1500 if $600-700 will also work exactly same? And if this is true, why not "chat" about it. These tech videos exist for the sole purpose of advising consumers on what deserves their money the most.
Samsung phones are expensive. Some of the most expensive Android phones actually. And what I think is stupid actually, is not questioning them. If a company's making mid ranged products with a flagship price tags, that's enough to place doubt on what they're doing.
If you still think "chatter" about a topic like this is "stupidity" then idk man that's just sad.

@@dmitriikonovalov7956 Those phones are still usable but the battery life on them will be dogshit now, even my s21 ultra battery life was bad , a new battery didn't solve the problem meaning the health on old battery wasn't that bad , just the phone has aged .

Exactly, finally someone who speaks the truth about the S23 lineup, I recently bought the base S23 and regretted it very badly for the same reasons you mentioned, my parents and my brother have A34s and my S23 looks literally the same(except for the front). Worst thing is that the Z Flip5(which I actually preferred) was just $90 more where I bought the S23 but because I stupidly listened to people recommending the S23 over the Flip5, I'm now stuck with a glorified A54 that's gonna be replaced by the S24 soon🤡

@@alexisoctavio.2005 you regret buying the S23 because it looks just like a glorified A54? Man, with all my respect, it's not healthy to buy a phone just to show off. Samsung are not stupid. Most of their users don't want people to see if they are rich or not. All that counts is what you can do with the phone. With S23 you can do anything you can imagine. The pixel 8 has some marketing bullshit that people will use first days, and after they will forget about it, because people just take a pic, and after another, and look at them next month. maybe you like to take pictures and play with them so in the end nobody will have the eyes shut, but that is the beauty of this, the imperfections make a picture perfect. If you really want true colour and feel the need to edit photos, go for the new sony. A lot better in any situation that the pixel with all his marketing b shit. By the way, the AI processing doesn't always work, and all your pictures will go in google cloud to modify them, in a time where everybody cries about lack of privacy. Every person will buy what is best for them, but when i see people that don't buy a phone because people will think he has a lower priced phone, makes me crazy.

I'm going buy the pixel 8 but a friend was going to get s23 and by some coincidence as that was earlier 2day I told him to wait till Feb and get s24 which he is lol he wouldn't listen when I said get the pixel 8 instead though 🙈😊

I find the Pixel 8 offers more for the average consumer, while the S23 is more suited to users who like to make the most out of their phones. Though I’ll admit those AI features are really attractive!
