- Here is drone video of the demolition progress of the Eastfield Mall in Springfield MA. Not too much has changed since the last report, looks like the crew is removing debris before moving on with the remainder of the building. This report contains several "flashback" scenes.

I will keep posting the demolition and then eventually the new construction. I tried to get up there about once a week.
Excellent footage as usual! I'm going tomorrow to shoot pictures and video. I can't believe there's still plants inside! Even though I'm sad it's being demolished I'm so happy to be able to see inside again and see familiar features such as the Steiger's court. If you go around the back of the mall you can see some of the food court fountain through the former cinema entrance. Happy New Year to you and your family!

When did this mall go into decline and were there any notable factors that made it fail?
I would say after the year 2000 it started a slow decline. There were problems with teens running wild for a period of time. As on-line shopping came into being, things got worse. The pandemic probably was the final blow. However, for decades this mall was "the" place to go in this area.
The place was hell hole for decades. My sister worked at BayState Medicial in the 80s. A coworkers mom was murdered at the Sears. In the 90s also at the Sears, I watched some BF/Husband/Pimp beat a woman up in the vestibule between the inner and outer doors. I was in the hardware section and they were going at it verbally in the main aisle but they were moving. "Whatever". I was working my way down to the men's dept. and 2 security guys run past. I look to where the 2 were and it was like a Rocky movie.
I think the mall in Holyoke did a number on this place. That place also had a murder in the mall last year or 2022. Innocent bystander. When most of a mall is full of chain stores, are you going to keep on driving to a further chain store or shop at the one closer to you? This mall is a couple of miles from the Mass. Pike. The Holyoke Mall is at the intersection of the Mass Pike and I-91. For me Holyoke is maybe 6 miles. This one is about 15. Holyoke could grab a lot of the hilltown people in the Berkshires.
There was a small mall across the street from this one. Forget the name. They had a Lechmere's and I think a Bradleys. Not a big mall. There's a Lowes there now and a Stop + Shop.
@@RocketRoberts It's worth documenting everything that is being demolished. Gives future generations an idea of what once was, and what happened to it. The drone coverage is perfect for this. Can even cover sketchy areas from a relatively safe distance. Great work 👍
