Today is July 8, 2023. I was there this morning shooting pictures and video of everything interior/exterior.All the stores are packing up and loading out the back of the stores. It's eerily empty and quiet but comforting at the same time. The JC Penny courtyard feels the most 80's to me. The brick planters and neon lights still invoke feelings of my childhood visits there. I'm 50 and a total product of the 80s. Every generation at some point starts to lose the things they interacted with as kids. My parents always talk about the glory days of Holyoke and downtown and the loss of the things they knew. Now Gen X er's are experiencing that same loss. Our malls are gone, all the retail chains we grew up with are gone, my childhood home has been renovated to the point of not recognizing it. Hell, a good part of my hometown of Holyoke is gone since my childhood. A good part of the mills have been demolished, Mater Dolorosa church is gone, Half of High street and Main street are boarded up. I'm starting to sound like my parents.......Eastfield is still open for another week, get in there and enjoy it! Good time to go and take pictures.
It just occurred to me that I could go back to this day in time, wander into any of the music stores around and still find EVERYTHING I listen to today!
Always LOVE seeing any pictures or videos of KayBee or KB toys (varying malls spelled it different ways), but that's the most nostalgia for me. All the N64 & Pokemon Gameboy experiences there from 1996-2000 there were amazing.
This video makes me sad and nostalgic. I’m 47 and was born in the malls heyday. There was no such thing as a dead mall. It’s sad that this mall closed for more stores 🤦🏻♀️thank you for sharing this video!
My mom, my aunts and my sisters LOVED this place above all others. My sister worked at Steigers for a short while. Now only my sisters are left and they have so many fond memories of shopping at Eastfield (all the girls). I went Radio Shack in there once but that's it, always hated shopping. Thanks for this video guys, I am sharing it with my 3 sisters who will love it.
This was my very first mall as a kid...so many memories here through the years...going to the movies, Kay-Bee Toys, Orange Julius, Dream Machine, Radio Shack, buying my first item on a Sears credit card, eating at the food court, etc. Thanks for sharing this video, it's nice to look back at what we had. I'm sure that when a lot of us were kids, we thought these places would always be here. But now they're gone. So it's good to have these bits of nostalgia to revisit now and then.
Looks Moore like 1982 !! Thanks for the wonderful memories !! I always wondered why Sears had the smallest entrance from the mall into the store. I used to go to Valley dental .
Wow the memories. I miss this mall. Some of these stores I don’t remember because I was only 3 in 1992. But i do remember others like the hallmark store, and Walden books, KB toys, Payless, rave, Jc Penny and sears and friendlys. I used to go to the mall friendlys like every weekend.
hi I grew up right around the corner from the eastfield mall so many great memory's going there since I was born up until now I'm so heart broken to here eastfield mall will be closing there doors for good july 15th of this year 2023 I watched this entire video I absolutely loved this video eastfield mall was so active back then & my grandfather my mom father actually worked on the eastfield mall when it was first being built back in the 1960's so eastfield mall will be missed for sure from what I herd a shopping center is going in its place which is not a bad thing but eastfield mall is western ma very first enclosed mall & is the oldest mall here in western ma is really sad to see the eastfield mall close & be torn down they had great stores over the years & the food court back in the 1990's was awesome just the entire eastfield mall was just a great mall back then
Ridiculous that somebody had the foresight to do this in 1992. This was peak. I wish they had done this for Holyoke too, that would be crazy to see in this quality in 1992. I loved those staggered walls at Babbage's so much. To me that setup with the monitors up front was iconic and they ruined it when they changed to Gamestop
Great video of the eastfield mall. It’s to bad there closing for good. I remember going there back in the day when it was thriving. It’s to bad 😢there turning it into a shopping center & offable housing. They should move it some where else. They should refurbished the mall instead & bring the mall back to the way it was before

What a Rare Treat! I’m a big dead mall geek and don’t get to see footage like this often. Thanks! This was great to see
Wow this mall is demolished now. Me and the wife and kids came here up until 2019 to see movies and shop on fridays

Remember the Springdale mall across the street?
Sure do! Lechmare, Bradlees, etc. Use to go to the Old Country buffet with my family every so often for Breakfast.
THANK YOU for posting this! So many memories.
Nostalgia overload! Thanks for posting!

I'm surprised that the Footaction logo looked so modern in 1993. Then again many of the designs and fonts from the 90s are still used today.
A wonderful video, .great he interacted with the girl in J. Riggins!! The Carousel at the end is the cherry on top!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sad 😢 I grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts that I left in 1990..
Wow - this brings back memories
Great video. I went there a couple days before they closed. The pizza oven was still there from the end of the video.
This is amazing!

My local mall as a kid! That place was always busy, I remember all of this.
I started going there in 1993! I remember Kaybee, Spencer, McCrory's and the Carousel.
Wow what an amazing video
WOW, this is super WEIRD! I'm young enough to not know some of the stores while old enough to RECOGNIZE the structure. 😳
i haven’t been in that mall since the mid 1970s. we moved from forest park to longmeadiw. now we’re allways in the ct mall . much closer.
Wow, great video!
Thank you!
Brings back so many memories. Sad that the mall will soon be gone.

I was the there on opening night in 1957.

This video is so great, do you have any more like this?
Hello. Unfortunately, I don't. Glad you like this video.

Affordable housing?!? For seniors I hope! Otherwise it'll turn into a shooting gallery!
1992? Weird.. I lived there and remember going there right around that year, must have been earlier than I'm remembering ❤
I think so.. Just by the sears sign
I watched the whole video and in some point they recorded pearcing pagoda and they do have a calendar 1992. 19:05
Eastfield Mall had an indoor carousel?!? Let me count the ways...
❤️
Thoughts go back to 12 year old me at the Dream Machine 😢
What made you think to take a video at that time? Anyway, thanks for doing it!
This was eastfield mall for real?! Who recorded this?
This was Eastfield Mall. A friend of mine who lived in the area recorded this more than 30 years ago.
People won't miss the mall til it's gone... What they have purposed will never compare ...
