As you say one doesn't have to listen to the Harris campaign or other Trump opponents for indications of Trump's bad intentions if elected, just listen to what Trump actually says. It is bizarre that anyone doubts some of the claims about Trump when Trump himself provides the evidence.

Everything’s blending together in my mind lately) where his translator wasn’t even allowed to take notes, and then having two Russian oligarchs (Lavrov and I can’t think of the other one’s name although we heard plenty about him at the time) greeting him in the White House for a photo op!) and bragging about himself and Kim Jung Un sending “love letters” to each other, that was enough for me to know he wants to get some inside tips on being a dictator. And just listening to him even before the 2016 election made me realize he really wants to be a dictator. And then, of course, him coming right out and saying he wants to be a dictator “only on day one”. Yeah right, Day one would be the day he’d announce a new title for himself: President-for -Life, which means…dictator. He’s so transparent sometimes. What horrifies me the most is some of his MAGAts actually saying they want to live under a dictatorship. Jeebus! They must have some serious daddy issues, probably because of their “sky-daddy”.

It's the paradox of intolerance at work.
It's an idea postulated by Karl Popper in the book Open Society and Its Enemies. It goes something like this: societies can't be tolerant of intolerance without limit because when you tolerate intolerance, eventually, intolerant people will attack the tolerant to the point that tolerance will disappear from the society.
Except, right now, in our society, we are tolerating the intolerant.

All very true. But the US is at a critical point. Trump, MAGA, and the modern GOP represent the ultimate of intolerance. The US _needs_ a truly historic vote. One so loud and so big that that it's embarassing. Like 90+million for Harris and a surprise flip or two. For MAGA and Republicans to get _humiliated_ at the polls. Because anything less (even if Trump loses) leaves an ongoing path for what amounts to a modern fascist party. Fingers crossed.

Being tolerant of intolerance would be the paradox. It’s literally antithetical to the paradigm, so it’s very logical and practical for a tolerant society to uphold the standard of keeping intolerance contained and marginalized.

@@JasminemPolyanthum And do you know who started “the dumbing down of America”? Ronald Reagan with the help and input from….wait for it….The Heritage Foundation, which wrote Project 2025. They even had a Mandate for Leadership (which is the title of Project 2025) in 1981, much of which was adopted by Reagan, especially the damaging of our educational system. In the 2025 version, they want to do away with the Department of Education altogether, so that rich white people can send their kids to elite charter schools where they’ll learn “good Christian values”. The other poor and black kids can go to whatever schools their state school departments can afford, which isn’t going to be much. The Heritage Foundation was founded in 1973. These folks have been working on this for fifty frikken years! And trump was just the perfect toady to allow them to bring in their most draconian version yet. And, yes, trump knows them very well, as does JD Vance(I’ve got screenshots of each of then from videos of both of them making glowing speeches at a Heritage conference, so if you hear trump saying he doesn’t know anything about them, he’s lying through his teeth like always. I even got a screenshot of him on his plane talking with Kevin Richards, the President or CEO of Heritage. And, of course, there are rumors that they’re going to find a way to get rid of trump, if he’s elected, probably with Amendment 25, and then JD would be President. Isn’t that horrifying? And, even if he doesn’t win, even with the election challenges they’re going to bring, and probably another insurrection at the Capitol, and god knows what else they’ve got planned (whenever I hear that I keep hearing trump using the word “bloodbath” which I’ve heard him say a number of times). Project 2025 says it’s the Mandate for whichever conservative Republican person (man only, I’m sure) next wins the position of President. And Kevin Roberts has said, clearly, when asked if there’s going to be “a peaceful transition of power”, his answer was “Of course…..(pause).. IF the *Left* allows it.” (I’m hearing that word “bloodbath” in my mind again). Buckle up, kids. It’s going to be a bumpy ride until, at least, January 6, and possibly later. I don’t know what or where it will be (probably the Capitol again), but I’ve been saying ever since the insurrection on January 6, 2021 that it was a “trial run” to learn how to do it bigger and “better” than the first one. I’m pretty sure Kamala will win (of course I can’t know for sure), but Kevin Roberts’ statement of *if the Left allows it* sounds very ominous, and combined by what MTG said, “If my group had been there, we would have won, and we would have brought guns” Mark your calendars! I really hope I’ll be proven wrong. Good luck to all of us who actually believe in our Democracy and want to keep it going. 💙

It’s no different than their stance on “cancel culture”. They’ll talk all day about how they oppose it, how vital it is to not destroy someone’s livelihood because you disagree with their politics. But then check out what they do to people like James Gunn or The (Dixie) Chicks when they speak out against them. They LOVE cancel culture then. Can’t do it fast enough.

I was attending UCLA a few years ago when students protested against an appearance by Milo Yiannopoulos. But I saw today that UCLA just hosted Ben Shapiro, who is Milo-adjacent in his views. I think Milo was just a step too far. Students at UCLA are taught that we should listen to varied viewpoints, and most do. But we can also recognize a pos when we see one.

Not saying voting isn't a great idea, but answer me this.. What exactly would a vote, or even Kamala winning, change about the Naval Academy uninviting Professor Ben-Ghiat? Right-wingers would still be in position of strange power, to convince our Military Academies to uninvite a lecturer. Whoever or however this came about, needs to be examined and brought to light. Institutions shouldn't be caving to the demands of outsiders or alumni, that hinge solely on a person's political views. Some sort of strange corruption is happening when one of the most prestigious institutions can be manipulated in such a manner.
