Someone sent me a quote: “The problem isn’t that Christianity isn’t taught in schools, it’s that Christianity isn’t taught in churches.” And dang if that doesn’t explain some this.
Good question. Highly doubtful. In our neighborhood (on the street with many young families where kids ride their bikes after school) there’s a house with 3 young kids. The flag flying from the house says “F*** BIDEN” in very large 20” bold font. The full words. Few weeks ago I saw them all dressed up and heading out on a Sunday morning - I presume to church.
@@kathytoner6105 the majority Christians don’t actually study the Bible. I went to a church that had a big focus on being prepared to answer(I no longer attend). We needed to know our Bible inside and out, so we could teach people who believed differently than us what the Bible actually said. A lot of people who claim to be Christians, are not living anywhere close to what the Bible says. They have their few favorite scriptures, they have what their preacher says but no actual knowledge of what the Bible says. A lot of the denominations teach things that are actually against what the Bible teaches. so the answer is no it’s not taught in churches and it’s definitely not taught in the homes
“They”. It’s always “them”. It doesn’t really matter who “they” are, they aren’t “us”. Chinese. Italian. Irish. Haitian. Jewish. Palestinian. Muslim. “They” are different from “us”, and different is bad. We need to get away from this prehistoric mindset.
@@lalaj5831When Trump talks about Democrats, Liberals, Blacks, Women… anyone that doesn’t support him… it always sounds discriminatory. Same as his followers.
Before i had even heard the man speak, i had heard he was an anti vaxxer who was so profoundly selfish and immoral, that during the splitting up of his father's estate, he had revoked the health insurance of his infant nephew with cerebral palsy in order to threaten the kids parents into not accepting their portion of the inheritance. And i knew, anyone who could listen to that and still vote for the man was a deeply bigoted person who would accept any excuse for their eugenics driven cruelty.
I wish it was that cut and dry for everybody. It sure would've saved me a helluva headache, as well as the people around me. It took so fucking long to take a look at myself and my views, as well as the direction the repubs have gone (publicly at least, I know I know, they've always actually been like this, it's just mask off now, you get what I'm talking about, fuck off.), and it's hard, man. It was hard to realize that while I didn't think explicitly that whites were better than blacks, I still held a lot of white nationalist views, specifically when it came to police, prison/crime/etc, and immigration. It's a hard thing to do to recognize that. Especially when you can just hide behind "I'm not racist, I don't think whites deserve the be treated better than blacks etc etc." Even just perpetuating conspiracy theories, as well as stupid shit like "black people are more violent than white people" because of a disparity in criminal convictions, it's still directly harming people. By doing that, you're a cog in the wheel. But it's not a matter of changing somebody's mind with evidence, studies, etc. You can't reason somebody out of a position that they didn't reason themselves into. Idk if I'm making a whole lotta sense, I hope I am, but I'm tuckered out rn after a long week, and I feel like somebody might get something at all from hearing my perspective.
See 1957 movie 12 Angry Men. See Jurors walk away from bigotry. How l wish Americans had done this instead of voting for Trump. Great commentary by Steve Shive.
That scene is one that I look forward to every time some "first time viewer" reacts to it on TH-cam. The power in that scene and you see lots of angry looks on the viewers' faces while juror #10 says what he said. The reviewers get it as the others respond, and they nod along like "yeah, that's how you do it."
Most people will only walk away if some one else will lead the way. That is why Trump got what he wanted. It is not so much about right and wrong, but more of what is everyone else going to do. Again, it is not wanting to be alone..
@@larryparker8677 Yes agreed! 💯It takes a strong conviction of morals to be the first person in the room to take action, but it shouldn't be that difficult when you KNOW that someone or something I'd just WRONG, like a hateful bigot that is spouting lies like the man did in this scene. And unfortunately, a large part of the reason that Trump won is because of the demographics of his base are mostly older white Christian males that are also uneducated, as in never attended college and many didn't even graduate from high school. So despite the fact that Harris was one of the most qualified candidates to ever run for president, there were/are just far too many people that are completely unwilling to vote for a woman, especially a woman of color. And they didn't even vote for a white woman of their own age back in 2016 either. Some people are just blinded by their own prejudices and hatred.
I have a hard time accepting that so many of my countrymen support Trump. I want to believe that Elon bought his win in some way or that some kind of criminal white-collar crime was responsible. If not, then my country is no longer the wonderful country my ancestors fought for.
Worse they both ran cover for him. They had a solved problem and worked to let him back in. I don't draw the line at trump. He's a symptom not the cancer itself. The Republican party hasn't had a full policy platform in decades. This is not over with his defeat. Sadly with so many being so drained now we won't see the end of this nightmare for a long while.
I started voting democrat when Obama ran! I wish I didn’t vote republican in the beginning, because they truly all only care about themselves! Terrible! Then they claim, we are the bad guys!!!
I keep telling myself we are witnessing bigotry's, racism's, and misogyny's last desperate gasps. That is the only way I can continue to get up each morning.
You might be right. Ive always believed that young people are far less bigoted and racist and I hope and pray they will drag us kicking and screaming into a new era where bigotry and racism is looked at as unacceptable stupidity or childish behavior.
I heard someone on the news some years ago saying that donalds fascist cult was a death rattle for bigotry and thats why people are eager to go so low.
What is certainly true is that movement conservatism feels that they are very close to being completely unable to win in the future. That's why they're pushing so hard to end democracy.

Hurricane Helene has ruined many lives. That's nothing compared with what Trump will do ! Wise up you Americans
As an Englishman , before you shake your head at what's going on in America remember that just recently England coronated King Charles in London , and with many thousands of non White Londoners there was no one at any of the ceremonies on television who wasn't White. I also remember the major rioting in England over the treatment of non Whites in England , and also in France. We really are very much alike.
How come the outsiders can see it but not the ones that are here in the United States the MAGA people cannot see the nose in front of their face or they won’t admit it. Why is that? Why do the people in Congress follow him you would think they’d have half a brain, some common sense something it’s very scary
I remember seeing 12 Angry Men on TV as a child. I love that movie. For a movie that was shot in a single room, cast with a bunch of old dudes to hold the attention of a 9-year-old is a testament to the writing of the dialogue, and the acting. Fantastic movie.
Absolutely. This is one of the most exciting movies I've ever seen. And a living proof you don't need any action sequences or effects to create thrill. The tension is palpable, and all achieved through pure dialogue and great acting. Masterpiece.
The election was four days ago. You sounded so hopeful, Steve. And I will never understand how anybody voted for Trump, especially anybody who saw 12 Angry Men. Thank you again, and don't stop.
I believe the reason they voted for Trump is because most Americans lack critical thought, forethought (such as considering what X politician and their policy will actually do), and are easily swayed by populist propaganda. They can't see (or maybe just don't care) that people like Trump are only trying to appeal to the masses and gain power, not because they actually want to help the people and America like Bernie Sanders does. Just think about it; how much time has Trump spent talking about his policies and explaining them in great detail vs. how much time has he spent insulting his enemies and fearmongering? Has he been most detailed with his policies, or his insults and fearmongering? It's basically no different from voting for someone just because they have bigger muscles than the other person. Hopefully Trump voters will realize that you should take democracy seriously and do your research into the candidates (and their policies) instead of just voting for the seemingly strongest guy.
He literally ripped pages out of Hitler's playbook. Just a few days before the election, he talked about how he was going to use the DOJ against his political rivals- something the Nazi party was known for... Hell, he straight-up used the term "the enemy within" to refer to them. _Guess where that term comes from._ I just... Fuck. We're screwed. Even if the morons who fell for his bullshit wake up and see how wicked he truly is... It's too late. THey already gave him exactly what he wanted. He won... And democracy lost.
Fun fact: that character never says a single word for the rest of the movie. When asked about his ruling, he just shakes his head without saying anything.
Being called out for his own bigotry forced his hand. Once it's made clear to him that he is not impartial, he has a reasonable doubt of the defendant's guilt. If he hasn't fallen to the point of, "No sense of decency," then he must now find him not guilty.
I actually watched this movie for the first time last month: And let me tell you, the sight of the entire room just walking away in disgust from Juror No.10 as he rants about 'you know what They're like', leaving him alone in the middle of the room, faltering as he realizes he wasn't saying what everyone was thinking, was an incredibly cathartic experience. Just, the on-display proof that this is not some new, radical, half-baked idea, that people knew this kind of rhetoric was wrong generations ago, just like today. I also like that, while you can make inferences from context, the movie itself never specifies who 'they' are. Because it ultimately doesn't matter who they are - because there's always a they. In every time and every place, there's always 'those people' who 'don't value the things we value'. It's a role that must always be filled, and definitions will be stretched and astroturfed until someone can be put in that role.
we have a DVD copy of it in our private media library (i think we inherited from Dad when he passed in 2021), but i never had any interest in watching it (or anything Dad was totally obsessed with because rebellious teenage syndrome). now that Steve's talking about it, i can't help but want to watch it myself, though i don't think i wanna drag mom into watching it with me (she doesn't want to be reminded of him any more after the last few years of his life living with mom before they separated and he moved into an apartment a short drive away). at least it would help me to understand his autistic tendencies i seem to be noticing in myself over the past few years after lockdown and sought out an ADHD screening in '21. he was not wrong in his hyper observation about how the US was slowly turning fascistic. i can see why he took on an extra life insurance policy along with the generous government-based pension/retirement (he worked for NOAA/NODC for nearly 30 years) that he later bequeathed to mom, me and Sis; he wanted us to survive the oncoming beat of history repeating itself, whatever that may be.
You wrote "it ultimately doesn't matter who they are". Which is an important insight and one of the reasons I stopped thinking being a member of a religious sect was a good idea long ago when I was in the 8th grade and learned about religions other than the one I was raised in. Because the core of every religion is the idea of an "in group" (members of your religion) and "out groups" (members of every other religion). Members of the out group (the nebulous "they") are always suspect and inferior to people who think in such terms.

You had me at “12 Angry Men.” When I was in high school, a teacher made all of us watch the 1957 BLACK AND WHITE version (the horror!), and by the end of the movie, I loved everything about it. I really understood that lack of technology didn’t mean bad movie, and the opposite can be true.
"Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain." That film is 67 years old. It is a grossly underrated cinema masterpiece with a very clear intent and message. It should be required viewing in every school in America, along with "1984" and "Fahrenheit 451". But the cancer this country has is of course, far older than 67 years. It seems we, along with the rest of the world, need a few more centuries of serious chemotherapy to overcome the grotesque stupidity of racism. I was in this play as a High School Junior in 1977. It's depressing as hell to see my country INSULTED and DEGRADED by that monstrous, orange piece of sh*t, and that the polls are anywhere near "close". Thanks for pointing out this clip. I've been spreading it around myself for a few years now. Rational adults all know what to do. Vote Blue and write your representatives when the screaming and whining starts about "cheating" and "voter fraud" from the Republican weasels. *(edited after seeing comments below) Yes, and please include "The Handmaid's Tale" along with "Inherit the Wind" to the list of required reading/viewing.
I had to read 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm, all of the tales against authoritarianism. George Orwell is especially a phenomenal writer. He saw the writing on the wall with both the fascists and the authoritarian communists. He fought in Spain during the 1939 civil war for the (Anarchist) Catalonians. I also recommend "A Brave New World" by Alduous Huxley and also reading Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein. Classic sci fi and dystopian fiction was aimed for young adult audiences and teaches them many different ideas of democracy, progressivism, and competing philosophies.
Reading Farenheit 451 as a kid made me a lifelong learner. I want to make sure when information is discovered, it's heard and preserved somewhere, even if it's just in my head and on my hard drive. And while I've never fully read 1984, I'm very aware of the concepts it provides, and find the seeds beginning to grow. The Two Minutes of Hate seems to me to be appearing in many places, in many forms, not to mention youtube and tiktok banning certain words, replacing them with "unalive" and "self unalive" like they wish to excise the very concepts from our society.
That was brilliant. Thanks for sharing this. I am sick and tired of how humanity seems to be doomed to repeat it´s unforgivable mistakes and sins, over and over again. I say this as a German - I know history. It is a long, excruciating line of avoidable mistakes. Sad, tragic, despicable. These people try to always find a SCAPEGOAT for every problem, a STRONG MAN to hide behind. People detest responsibility, in truth. That is what makes me a misanthrope. The only thing people should hate is ignorance and ideology. I truly hope enough people in the U.S.still get this. When we replace rational thought and critical thinking, and responsibility for ourselves with sentiment, emotion (minus empathy) and sheer vain hatred, we fail our existences. Kant called the process of maturing intellectually "breaking out of our self-imposed ignorance". These people - they are PROUD of it, instead. It simply makes me sick and tired. Now these fools talk about weather control, purges and walling off their country. They will never understand: It is not THEIR country. It never has been. If enough people would vote, and if the USA would adopt the 'popular vote', like virtually any democracy in the whole wide world, they would never have a chance. NEVER.
On Nov 5, my hope is that America will collectively and figuratively stand up, turn their backs, and walk away from Donald Trump and this poisonous version of the GOP.

If my artificial intelligence model of King James version Bible prophecy interpretation are correct, then trump will lose and trouble will lead to a national FEMA EMERGENCY declaration and America divides into 10 FEMA regions. These are the prophet DANIEL'S 10 horns. Trump is the little horn, trump actually means horn in the KJV Bible, according to artificial intelligence and my personal investigations into the meaning of the KJV Bible. Now the word Trump is not used to describe the anti Christ but it means a horn or the sound of a horn in the KJV Bible. Daniel referred to the anti Christ as the little horn. After the election and FEMA EMERGENCY declaration trump will uproot 3 FEMA regions or Three horns, which in prophecy means 3 divisions of political powers. Artificial intelligence indicates that FEMA regions 4 6 and 7 will fall into his hands.

@SandraGoff-t9c I agree that there was a time when many of us could spot a con-man, huckster, and serial liar a mile away. I credit my parents, most especially my mother, with having unprecedented skill in that regard. What I didn't learn by her verbal instruction was learned by direct observation of her actions and attitudes. Priceless! I'm not sure how so many of us became so gullible. Part of it is that our system of education doesn't adequately teach critical thinking skills and civics.

Most Americans could spot a huckster but there have been waves and streams of craziness. There was the revival preaching craze back in the early 1800s that spawned oodles of huckster preachers and charlatans running seances. One of the cults, the Millerites, had a set date for the Second Coming, which they kept recalculating as each date passed. That group spawned the Shakers and Seventh Day Adventists (and some Adventists split off into Branch Davidians). I just hope people remember to vote in 2026 (assuming we're not living in Trumplandia), as I've seen good progressive presidents (e.g. Obama) get enough of the Congress chipped away from them in the mid-terms -- typically from general low-voter turnout -- that they can't get anything passed, but still get blamed for it not passing. Cheers!
Obama was never a "good progressive president" except in his campaign rhetoric. If you looked at his actual proposed policies, including in his 2008 campaign, he was very much a neoliberal moderate who used aspirational progressive rhetoric about "hope and change" to SOUND LIKE a progressive. In fact, he ran to Hillary Clinton's RIGHT in the 2008 primary (and had a less liberal voting record in the Senate, too): for example unlike her, he declined to support an individual mandate to ensure universal health coverage, and wasn't as supportive of unions.
I keep telling the "I'm tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils" people that our president affects the world. The whole world. It isn't about if you're tired or not. You being tired doesn't matter. It's bigger than us, it's bigger than you, it's bigger than AIPAC, or Gaza. It's up to us to make sure we make the best choice for the planet.
@@matthewsanchez7953 I understand the frustration. And until we get rid of the electoral college, which Republicans will never do, we have a 2 party system. The math just doesn't work. And the president is just one candidate. If they voted in their local and state elections they would move themselves further. I have a Dem run state and we're doing much better than any red state. MN is the 3rd happiest state in the country. It isn't rational to just let someone in that will take us back 200 years because you're not in love with the Dem party. Especially when you're talking about an individual that has the power in the world that the US president does. It's just selfish to sit out or vote 3rd party

Yep. Trumps administration was such a disaster that he now has one of the highest body counts of anyone in america. All because he was a grifting anti vaxxer who not only worsened the covid pandemic in america, but used one of the largest media platforms on the planet to spread vaccine hesitancy worldwide. Now right wing politicians across the world have made what should have been apolitical common sense into a political wedge issue. With far reaching consequences even down to a bunch of right wingers refusing to vaccinate their pets and livestock leading to an uptick in rabies. So not only has he k;lled over a million Americans, but he's set the stage to do it again with the following generations.

I am not an American. I live in Poland. For years, I have appreciated this film very much. In my country, there are many people who do not accept "others", who accuse them, who spread hatred towards them. They preach similar texts to the monologue of this film character. I am ashamed that we are supposedly civilized, but we behave this way. And we have learned nothing, as a society, from our own history. And not only that. I hope that Trump, and people like him, do not come to power, or lose it quickly. I sincerely wish Mrs. Kamala Harris victory. I apologize for any mistakes, but I am afraid to write in English myself, because it would probably be impossible to read, so I save myself with Google Translate. It is a pity that the world is so far from the ideas preached in Star Trek. My influence is almost non-existent, but I wish good luck to those who have the opportunity to save us from what Trump and people like him represent.
Thank you! It helps to know people all over the world see what many - and hopefully the most - of us see what you see! Freedom should not be something missed because not enough people appreciate or even understand it.
The Henry Fonda version of 12 Angry Men has long been a personal favorite: longer than I can remember! Your comparison is spot on. I am still boggled at the mere fact that Trump was ever elected as President. How can that possibly be so? Because there are too many angry people who have been denied their rightful places in this country, sometimes by their own actions but many times, not. They are not the "dregs of society". They are mostly hard working, honest people who have been gullible enough to be so very misled. I cannot recommend this video enough!
How can we get this out to a broad audience? I'm serious .this NEEDS watched. People need to see and hear. It won't change everyone certainly there has to be the more intelligent that should cringe with the realization that this is happening RIGHT NOW! 💙
You are, by no means, alone. There are *millions* of us who cannot fathom this! I think Chump's election for president proves that there are multi-millions of uneducated, ill-educated, stupid, fascist, biased people who call themselves Americans even today.
He got elected because of the horrible and un democratic Electoral College which is one of the last vestiges of slavery because it originally based Southern slave populations as 3/5ths of a person to counter the more heavily populated northern colonies and it also created the Senate as a compromise for smaller states. BIDEN won by more than 7 million votes and Hillary won by more than 3 million but she lost the Electoral College because of how it gives oversized influences to smaller states. Ironically it is the only rights for minorities that this Supreme Court and Republicans truly recognize

I'd say the writing and the pacing have a lot to do with how good this piece is. With such a dialogue heavy script it is hard to keep the pacing going to keep your attention. Reginald Rose was a master at this.

Every single grass roots poll I've seen consistently shows Trump has between 75 and 80% of the vote. In 2016 and 2020 he had between 70 and 75%. I have screenshots to prove it. The mainstream media is lying. Hell, look at the poll Elon took on X. That had millions of votes and showed Trump winning overwhelmingly.
This is a great video. Thank you for sharing! When I was a kid my mom had a boyriend and this was one of his favorite movies. I lived in NY for 20 years before moving to another state. In the ‘90s the news had him on papers and television very often and always with disgusting news. I can say I know him for 35 years and I was and still am disgusted by this individual. From not paying his workers to the way he treated his wives and everyone else, from his numerous bankruptcies, always taking advantage of anyone and anything, from his maniacal litigiousness, everything is telling me that he is a danger to society. Needless to say that he is not fit for the office.

I saw this on stage with Richard Thomas (Juror 8) and George Wendt (Foreman) and it was great. I went with my mother, who was, ironically, on jury duty at the time. The problem is, telling a modern day reich-wing bigot to sit down and don't open their mouth again, they're likely to respond with cowardly violence instead of complying.

It seems we play this dance every generation or so of fascism and hate. It seems our rough tough persona of facing hard truths is easily swayed to lazy lies and hatred for others. It amazes me how many anti facism, anti hate themed stories were coming out of WW2 and yet we and some of our European counterparts run to this same dance when the going gets tough, when we know who the bad guys truly are and they're not the people on skid row, or packed some shack near the border, but on billionaire drive the people who craft the laws to their favor, and only toss us some meat and a few coins to keep the majority relatively happy.
This is precisely why i find trump so profoundly disappointing. Just as many were willing to start holding politicians accountable, instead they got suckered in by the misconception that trump not being a career politician was the same thing as being anti establishment. When no! He's not anti establishment, he's the opposite! He's part of the money in politics! He's one of the wealthy ghouls bribing politicians to go against the common good! Its like people saw a businessman bribing a mayor to let his factory poison the river and said "we need to put that charleton in the white house!"

That's because the autocrats, oligarchs, and aristocrats realized that the way to keep control over the people is to fool them, not physically conquer them, and that's done by taking away education, taking advantage of the distrust in government that they themselves caused or perpetuated by their own unethical acts, and spreading misinformation. It's too easy to stay at the top when you keep everyone else fighting each other. Human nature isn't something that changes, we're still the same emotional, chaotic, and conflictingly intelligent primates we've always been and people of power know that and how to use it at others' expense to benefit themselves. And we continue this vicious cycle until either the end of our species or until we force ourselves to evolve to something that's more conducive to our collective survival and prosperity as a species.

I've hated him since he sued Berke Breathed out of his "Bloom County" comic strip in the 80's.
Same here.
I knew who he was when he was selling his steaks.

They left their preconceptions for the truth. This Shive is trying to fasten his own ideas on them.

I remember seeing 12 Angry Men on TV as a child. I love that movie. For a movie that was shot in a single room, cast with a bunch of old dudes to hold the attention of a 9-year-old is a testament to the writing of the dialogue, and the acting. Fantastic movie.

Just a few days before the election, he talked about how he was going to use the DOJ against his political rivals- something the Nazi party was known for... Fun fact: that character never says a single word for the rest of the movie. When asked about his ruling, he just shakes his head without saying anything.
I'd like to answer the question (jeopardy music): who is juror number 10?
Being called out for his own bigotry forced his hand. Once it's made clear to him that he is not impartial, he has a reasonable doubt of the defendant's guilt. If he hasn't fallen to the point of, "No sense of decency," then he must now find him not guilty.
@@deannamarie8389 Ed Begley, often seen in old Westerns.
Great observation! I'll have to watch the movie again. Thanks for the info!

That film is 67 years old. It is a grossly underrated cinema masterpiece with a very clear intent and message.
It should be required viewing in every school in America, along with "1984" and "Fahrenheit 451".
But the cancer this country has is of course, far older than 67 years. It seems we, along with the rest of the world, need a few more
centuries of serious chemotherapy to overcome the grotesque stupidity of racism.

*(edited after seeing comments below) Yes, and please include "The Handmaid's Tale" along with "Inherit the Wind" to the list of required reading/viewing.
Thank you. You explained this perfectly
And The Handmaid's Tale!

Exactly right! This has been the weirdest part of the trump era. That he has drawn people TO him is not what America has always been. We used to be able to spot a huckster, bully, conman liar a mile away. Now many don’t want to see him for what he is, but choose conspiracies instead to avoid facing reality. His time is over, we must “turn the page.”
@SandraGoff-t9c
I agree that there was a time when many of us could spot a con-man, huckster, and serial liar a mile away.
@@markpickett3512Looking from outside the US it seems mystifying that a country so representative of freedom is embracing an authoritarian/fascist. But then I think of Germany and the rise of Hitler: a country steeped in Christian history & culture and humanism descended within a matter of a few years into profound cruelty and savagery, as if an entire people had become possessed.
Then there was the Satanic Panic that started in 1980 and ran into the 1990s and still has believers today. And it was all nonsense, the creation of a woman who was making up stories to get the attention of the psychiatrist she was in love with, while he was in love with being famous. Shady psychologists jumped on the bandwagon and a lot of people were falsely accused and punished.

It was a microcosm of what the best of America is, in overcoming the worst of what it could let itself lapse into.

@@ReaverLordTonus California has a "Track My Ballot" web page (you'll have to google "California where's my ballot" since youtube doesn't allow links - but it's what you're looking for!)
Very well put!
Lots of Americans have Polish ancestry -bless you and your country!
Very well said 👏 👍 👌
❤️❤️❤️
@@towanda2947 Share it! Everywhere. On whatever social media you use. Tell friends about it. My grandson (27) knew of it, but had never watched it. He will now!
Great movie to watch during these times! Even after election, because it raises our awareness of historical moments similar to what we are in. Thanks Steve! Love your serious knowledge, appreciation for classic movies❤❤
Fritz Lang's Metropolis was originally on Hitler's burn pile because he didn't want people to have agency in changing societal and governmental norms. I love that movie so much. Even though its a silent film, i have cried during both of the screenings i have witnessed. When the mind and hands are at odds, listen to the heart.
Wow, screenings!? That's awesome. I treasure the time I got to see Casablanca in theater. The scene where they sang the French anthem made the auditorium cry.
Metropolis is such a good movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire film.
@@georgemetcalf8763Casablanca is a gem, that movie is fantastic
Already voted last week, in person, all blue up and down the ballot!💙
It's best. There was a candidate running on Rep......but he was Blue before....A guy from my neighborhood! BUT If he got in (I trust him!).....if they wanted to remove him.... and appoint a successor....well, that's their business. (Don't risk that!)
I’m always angry when people don’t vote…especially when they complain later about the president or congress person.
The “i don’t vote” people don’t think about local officials and issue either. It’s a shame.
Voting gives you the right to complain. If you agree to let others decide for you, you have no right to complain about the results.
@@stulexingtonthere is an exception to that: people not allowed to vote for some reason.
All my life when people would complain about government, I'd ask if they vote. If they didn't, I'd tell them you've given up your right to any opinion and inform them it was the end of the conversation. Every time.
@@mlpfanboy1701 Of course, and there is a difference between won't and can't.
This was brilliant.
Thank you.
I see this as a public service.

One of the greatest movies ever made. And, sadly, it shows that we haven't come very far as a people. Thank you, Steve. Love your work.
And, as far as we have come, we're now going backwards.😞
We actually did make some real visible progress, the tRump 2016-2020 happened and we went backwards!!!! 😢😢
@@nataliacoggins6769 But the fact that Trump was even possible and still is, shows that the progress was superficial at best. Trump is not the problem. The mindset making him possible is. If Trump disappears, the problem will just get another figurehead and move on.
Yep. One of the best movies of all time, and it was all done in one room, with 12 guys sitting around a table. Shows what good actors are capable of. Spot on video!
I'd say the writing and the pacing have a lot to do with how good this piece is. With such a dialogue heavy script it is hard to keep the pacing going to keep your attention. Reginald Rose was a master at this.
To Kill a Mockingbird is another great movie as well.
Great video Steve. I've voted already 💙🇺🇲 now I'm praying and paying attention. There's no way I believe Trump is tied with Harris. We can't be that far gone. So from the world's worst procrastinator, Let's go people! Get yet vote on! We can all be super heroes 💙🇺🇲👍
He grew up with a single mom in Michigan and was considered from a bad neighborhood and he told us why it was his favorite. And this was exactly why, we gotta turn our backs on hate and discrimination, and false imprisonment.
He was already president once. The world didn't end.
There were guardrails and adults in the room that time. Not anymore!

England calling , this is one of my favourite movies. Up there with inherit the wind and to kill a mocking bird . I even feel sorry for the old ranting guy whose bigotry is exposed, you see him become vulnerable and ostracised . Such wonderful writing and acting.
This was required viewing in schools in the 60s as part of the Civics curriculum.
It's a good example of what was lost when our conservatives decided that Civics was unnecessary in our Education system.
Yes, the GOP has been dumbing down public education for Decades, because they know that an educated electorate will never vote for them.
Conservatives today would undoubtedly label this masterful tale of morality as being ”woke”, just like they label everything else they don't like.
That was done to make sure Republicans could con people into voting for them.
I first learned of this play was when I was in junior high. We had to review and study it in school.
Self-Serving integral part of their multi -decade-long coordinated concerted efforts plan to commit nationwide/ party-wide treason, now fully revealed.
🪣💩🕳Cleanse it!! VOTE BLUE!! FOREVER IS BEST!!💙🔥
*Well done. Thank you.* 💫
One of my favorite movies of all time. Probably because it never stops being current.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if this movie's lessons were no longer needed?
I AGREE! Fonda and Cobb! The best version. Those who don't learn from the past, are doomed to repeat it.
Bravo 👏👏 I was born in 1958 and as I got older and started to learn about life in general I remember in school I had friends of all race, religion and remember a day when I was a teenager that I was so confused and disappointed in my dad because he tried to tell me I couldn't be friends with my friends because he was such a bigot, and a bully to my mom that he forbid her to vote I remember watching that movie when I was older you need to keep showing this and talking about it I'm sending it to everyone I know if only to remind them what they sound like I'm literally crying right now because that was so powerful to watch thank you keep up the good work 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
I think your message is just as important now, after the election. A lot of us are shell shocked, and might be lashing out at friends, neighbors or relations who we are sure voted for the Republican ticket. As we see in 12 Angry men, there are many ways to try and change someone's mind.❤😢 college kids in the Vietnam era came up with some very creative ways indeed.❤
I have to go back to re watch this movie. Hate and bigotry will always be with us but we can keep both caged and defanged if we have courage !
I used to tell non voters “If you don’t vote don’t complain”
If you don’t vote you have given up any voice to say anything. You now spend 4 years not commenting on politics…. At all.
Your vote is your comment and your choice. Vote for the one who does not make you throw up at the sound of his voice.
I voted dem for the second time in my life despite being a lifelong Republican. I want the GOP to take out the trash and deserve my vote again. I did not desert them … they deserted me.
@@Missy50url My younger sibling has told me the same thing. The Republican Party now is not the party they joined or the one they believe in. They are voting Harris/Walz.
I read a comment this week where a man said because of Clinton, Obama, and Biden he is a staunch republican. And then added that he has never voted. I just told him that since he has done nothing to try to change what he doesn't like, then he just needs to sit down and shut up with his whining. And then encouraged him to maintain his status quo in November! 🤭
On the other hand, non-voters justify themselves by saying: “Don’t bitch to me. I didn’t for him/her.”
"If you don't vote, you don't count!" - Vernon Dahmer
I saw this on stage with Richard Thomas (Juror 8) and George Wendt (Foreman) and it was great. I went with my mother, who was, ironically, on jury duty at the time.
The problem is, telling a modern day reich-wing bigot to sit down and don't open their mouth again, they're likely to respond with cowardly violence instead of complying.
Sad, but likely true.
Or scream online about their free speech being violated
Is it time for the 2nd reconstruction yet or naw?
they WANT you to react that way. What they dont want is to be ignored or laughed at.
Imagine telling Trump to sit down and stfu. He was in hell every day when he was in that courtroom. He had to sit there and be still and be quiet.
How right you are! Good analysis, sir!
The more attention given to bad behavior, the harsher the bad behavior gets. It must stop.
“Oh, just shut up man!” Joe Biden to Trump, 2020.

I just received my ballot in the mail today and already have it filled out and ready to return to the county courthouse on Monday. Very satisfying to meticulously vote down-ballot this year, really hope we can unseat some of these bigoted representatives Iowa's become riddled with. Gotta live in hope that we can delouse this state again.
I watched this movie in social studies in middle school - I'll never forget it ❤️
Problem is a majority of Americans like what the guy is saying. Evidently.
Its really sad when you think about it we have all this history, movies, shows, books, music, games all this reference material and we still learn nothing I mean what does it take for us as a whole to pull our heads out of our asses if these maga people would open a book instead of burn it they could see that trump is basically word for word bar for bar repeating things evil men from history have said and they always ALWAYS fail in the end we need to as harris said turn the page and finally start making some real progress

It's coming time for America to tell the world what kind of country it is. I hope we don't fail. Again.
There are a bunch of republicans who voted trump once or twice that never want him in again, we also have a majority of the 13 keys to the white house, i am cautiously optimistic.
@@mlpfanboy1701 Even if we win it's not over, so long as such a large portion of the nation is totally enraptured by trump we won't be safe.
