    I have this same model, and I used to service HP products for a living. If you can disassemble, and access the head, using cotton swabs with 90% isopropyl alcohol usually clears a clogged head at the nozzle. Most inkjet heads only get clogged because ink dries on the rubber gasket, and wiper, and air gets in. Unless the printer has been sitting for years, the ink shouldn't be dried out inside the head or the tubes. This model is actually pertty easy to open up. This model is built like a tank, and well worth refurbishing, other than the fact it uses tons of ink for photos. The newer photo printers are much more disposable than this model, which was over $200 new. If you don't want to have to deal with ink clogging on the head, the older HP printers that used the 90 series carts, have the head built in, so you can clean them easily. The Vivera 6-color printers have a slight edge printing photos over the older cartridge design, but not having easy access to the head, they sell more printers, and lots more ink... I picked up a wide carriage Photosmart 8750 at Goodwill one day for $5, and I buy expired carts for a fraction what HP charges. It seems that they're only in it to make money selling you ink now. I've also considered getting the reservoir system for my C5180, but now that I have the 8750, I can just refill the cartridges, and have easy access to the print heads built into the ink cartridge. I think the reason printer companies have gone to making ink-well type printers, is it's more expensive to manufacture the cartridges with the head built-in, but it was really the best design, even if multiple alignment was a bit of a problem. Having all colors aligned in one head makes alignment seamless, but they should design something with a service door to clean the head, so you don't have to tear down the printer to clean and maintain it.

      +Mooncalf2012 I have a C5180. I got Ink System Failure messages and finally my LCD screen turned gray and could not complete the start up process. My research found that I had two bad capacitors and I replaced them. LCD is normal, printer starts up, but alignment page has no ink and then Ink System Failure again. Any ideas? This is a tank and I prefer repair. Thx

    Awesome support info at end of vid.. Contrary though to the presenter, cleaning of the print head is easy and doable by most. A great video guide to doing it is available. Hp should have kept this head design ( inkwell to pump to head ) it was well before its time. imho.

    FYI to clear a fault for the HP c8180, press both "Red Eye Removal" and "Print Photos," and it will ask for a special key combo. Press "Red Eye Removal," then "Print Photos," then "Red Eye Removal" again and the menu will open. Use the right arrow on the menu to scroll to "System Configuration Menu" and click OK. Scroll to "Hardware failure status" and press "OK" to clear.

    I really appreciate the time you took with this video. I was having issues with my Black and both Magenta cartridges, so I decided to try your method. The Magentas are now printing beautifully, but the black is not printing at all- black ink has entered the cartridge filled with cleaner, but when I print black it shows up as dark Magenta, and if I do a Black copy, the page is entirely blank. Test prints show no black at all, only the small color blocks. Thought I'd ask if you had any suggestions before I give up and buy a new printer.

    HP C5180 All-In-One Printer HARD RESET:Hold down HELP + OK button and unplug printer (could experiment with regular power-off, but I opted for brute force)Hold down HELP + OK button again as you plug the printer back in. Then power it on, if it doesn’t power on automatically. Be Safe: keep holding the buttons until the printer turns itself off. (It took mine less than a minute.)Now you can release the buttons and simply power it back on. (I held my breath, but that’s not required.)I got an error message about “improper shut down” since I unplugged it w/out powering down. After I clicked “OK” the printer was just fine and didn’t mind anymore. And now I can print.

    Does this not have the hp solution centre with the option to self-clean? I have a c7250 and in the printer toolbox in the hp solution centre, there's an option to align the heads clean the heads print test pages etc. I just did the cleaning and the alignment and it cleared right up. I haven't used my printer in 5 years until today so I imagine the print heads were a little dusty and clogged with dry ink but the head cleaning did its job. Maybe you could do it that way and not have to go through all of this. We have the same ink cartridges well I don't have the large reservoirs on the outside as you do just them cartridges somehow my black one died and it wasn't detecting any of the other cartridges, thankfully I had a spare and the only problem I have is it thinks that the ink is out of date and I guess it is but it still prints beautifully. I think it's a ploy to make you buy more ink, what I found odd about this system with mine if the black cartridges chips go out they all go out. I can even put the black one in alone and it doesn't realize that the other 5 are not installed doesn't work that way with regular cartridges just these refillable's. That's a lot of wasted paper and I saw that the printer does have printhead cleaning option you really should just use that system it does a great job all by itself and it only takes maybe 4 pages.

      The self cleaning will not work when you are using 3rd party inks and they cloged the head. This hapens when printer is not used for few months.The only way is to unclog the head. Best solution is to take the head out but that is difficult task for most people

    • @KoolBreeze420
      @KoolBreeze420 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeckDrivenTeck That' odd because I'm using 3rd party ink and haven't used the printer in about 5 years. I simply used the printer cleaning option and it's working great. I first ran the printer alignment then I ran the 1st clean then the intermediate clean and it's printing perfectly now.

      Bubbles in the cartridge is ok, you just need to be at least half full so that air does not get in the line. But if you het a error you would need to do a hard reset. You should be able to find a video youtube how to do that

    hi can you tell how to load 4x6 photo paper to print a photo?

    • @TeckDrivenTeck
      @TeckDrivenTeck  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lift top of the tray, thats where the paper lands when it has been printed. Than pull the blue tray out, insert photo paper.

    • @Jons01
      @Jons01 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Teck Kimborowicz My C5180 has NEVER picked up the paper from the photo tray. Tray is ejected and message says to add paper. ARG!

    • @edwinerst
      @edwinerst 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jons01 Paper tray problems are often dirty or dusty rollers. Clean them with heavy duty"Viva" paper towels or Q-Tip with Windex cleaner, or occasionally with isopropyl alcohol if extremely dirty. (Alcohol can dry out rubber, so avoid it, unless needed) An unused roller can accumulate dust if not used, and this can cause the wheels to slip on the slick coating on the back of some photo paper.

    • @edwinerst
      @edwinerst 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jons01 Also, if you leave 4 x 6 paper in the blue tray for too long, it can accumulate dust. Take the top piece off and check for dust, as this can cause loss of traction during feeding. If you keep the printer covered with a dust cover when not in use this can help too. Use good quality ink jet paper for regular printing. The cheap kind of paper used in copy machines will add more 'paper dust' to the insides, and the rollers, which will cause traction problems on rollers. The take-up rollers in back can be easily reached by the access panel, and should be cleaned occasionally to prevent paper jams. (They can be turned by hand in one direction)

    • @Jons01
      @Jons01 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks, but I always added the single 4 x 6 when I was ready to print. I have had the same issue with all my Photosmart printers. I appreciate the suggestion though.

      Hi Reginaldo, error 0xc18a0101 occurs typically in HP Photosmart printers when printer head is clogged, in particular it happened in my Photosmart 3310. The following action solved my problem: push simultaneously OK, Cancel, Black and Color buttons (i.e. these 4 buttons at once). This rest printer program and you can print again but, this action does not clean the printer head (you can see a little improvement, though), so after of this follow the any procedure about how to clean the printer head. Hope this helps to anyone guy/girl.
