One the biggest pains in this game is when your horse dies and the game has the audacity to ask you if you want to use a flask to get the horse back like dang bro I'm running for my life what do you think
I killed all Messmer's soldiers in the DLC at least once and still didn't have all pieces. So then I started to farm it in Rellana castle. After 120+ kills (with scarab talisman, arcane talisman, mimic tear masque and consumables) I finally got everything. So I thought it's hardest to farm set, but looks like I'm just unlucky...
I want to mention the Death Knight set found in Darklight Catacombs. Each piece enhances Lightning Incants. Lightning builds running the full set get like 8% extra damage and it stacks with Gravelstone Seal
I like using a lot of the lightning incants so I've been using the death knight helm and chest piece for that little bit of extra dmg, but also just bc I like the look of it.
Something interesting about the Fire Knight's Gauntlets is that they're the only arm armor I've found that removes the horned elbows on the Crucible Knight armor.
Viewing these comments makes me glad I love arcane builds. Running 80 arcane, this stuff just seems to drop while playing. Thanks for the videos Dom! I look forward to each and every one you do.
I think some of them are "rare" in the context of drop chance (1% and less). If it's obtainable by just picking it up that's different kind of "rare" (per playtru) and it's usually very subjective.
I'm currently using the Rakshasa chest piece, the unaltered banished knight helm, briar gauntlet and grieves. It's a really wicked look and gives 55 poise on top

The Best place to farm curseblade set is at the stagefront site of grace right before the divine beast room. If you go down the spiral staircase you can find one and immediately backstab it.
18:25 The raptor's black feathers weigh more, are on average worse in terms of damage negation numbers, with only a few categories being higher, and not by much. And it looks way worse. The resistances for status effects are significantly better on the raptor's black feathers, but unless this is just a inaccuracy of the wiki, the black feathers has been nerfed in pvp to only boost jump attacks by 5%. The gravebird's armor does not have that nerf (again, at least according to the information on the wiki) and if you are running a jump attack build in pvp/ coop where you expect to be invaded, chances are that extra damage is going to be significantly more important than a little resistance to status.
The last set, what it does is raise your actual atk values and lowers your negation ones. It's hard to see outside of the DLC, but inside when you get to a certain point of the fragments, its easier to see the difference. The Greatshield talisman offsets this well
For the gravebird helm, you actually don't have to jump from the lift (I tried showing it to hosts I was co-oping with and know that parkour isn't necessarily everyone's strong suit...). When you are down there, look to the left of the altar the helmet's on, you'll see a set of broken stairs. Jump on them (should be easier, since, you know, nothing is moving), climb up and and jump onto the altar.
I was using the silver pickled fowl foot for the fire knight greatsword and reseting at the golden hippo site of grace then i realized it wasnt consuming the item. I used it about 20 times and it never decreased the item count.

You can summon Redmane Freya to tank it for you, if you haven't killed the lion yet. Theres also another big guy at the bottom of the stairs that drops his armor and weapons. I used her to help me farm both their sets.
Yeah, that Messmer Soldier set sure is one of the "rarest armor sets in Shadow of the Erdtree." 🙄 Anyway... For the Shadow Militia set, I recommend farming just the first guy hiding behind the altar in the storehouse. Just run in a circle counter-clockwise and kill that guy over and over. Getting the other one as well is probably a waste of time since you have to run over to him and then back to the grace. In the time it takes to do that you can probably kill the first guy twice. The Black Knight set was the first one I farmed along with the Messmer soldier set and the Common Soldier set. (The latter two being more of a bonus, though I do love the Messmer Soldier shield.) That was in the camp right before Castle Ensis, but there are probably better places to do it. I was just a bit impatient. The Black Knight armor is more or less equal to Blaidd's set, and one of the few decent armors in the DLC. The Divine Bird Warrior set likewise is fairly okay. If you don't want to wait until you get to Enir-Ilim, the bird warrior you encounter in Raoh Ruins can be farmed by running back from the grace by the Church of the Bud, through the rot area (there is one Pest to kill) and then fight him in the open area directly afterwards. It's not super quick, but I managed to get the whole set in pretty good time anyway. I still need to farm the Divine Beast armor, though I do have the mask. The method shown in the video is probably the best. I recommend backstabbing the two casters, which only leaves one easily dealt with inquisitor at the top of the stairs you have to actually fight before the divine beast warrior. I got the standard Fire Knight set by farming the guy at the top of the stairs in the area to the right of the Golden Hippopotamus grace. This requires you to kill a handful of Shadow Militia along the way so that might be a good place to get both sets. The reason I picked that particular place is because I actually wanted the greatsword the fire knight was using, and I got the armor in the meantime. I don't particularly care for this armor, personally, since it's not protective enough for my taste and I prefer to get my bonuses from talismans rather than compromising my armor. That said, the armor looks pretty cool and has a lot of fashion potential. I particularly like the greaves, which are the only ones I've found that look really good with the Nox armors. Not sure it was worth farming the Curseblade set, since I don't use light armors. I guess the bracers look good. Anyway, first guy in Gravesite Plains, run up and down the hill, not too difficult if you have a decent Scadutree Blessing and can deal a lot of damage to them quickly. The Night set was a disappointment. The chest armor is somehow inferior to the _bandit garb,_ and the rest isn't much better. Sometimes I really wonder what the good people at FromSoft are thinking. Like, why is Godfrey's armor weaker than the Godrick Soldier set? It makes no sense. But this along with the Oathkeeper Knight really takes the cake for very good looking sets that are basically starter armors functionally, and I don't get why they're in a DLC this hardcore. I believe I'm only missing the leg parts on the Gravebird set, I think I just happened to walk right passed that alter when passing through the area. I'll have to remember to swing by next time I play. The set is not useful to me at all, but I'm a collector. By the way, the gravebirds are actually very easy to deal with: Kite them one by one by shooting them with a bow, they are not very tough and very easy to beat one at a time. The tactic I favor is blocking their first attack with a greatshield and guard counter. This will usually stun them since they seem easily stance broken. At higher Scadutree Blessing levels I started to one-shot them. If they start flying around and attacking you from above, just block with the shield until they come down. The ones that breathe ghostflame are trickier, but you can just block the fire with a good anti-magic shield, or dodge the the side. I kinda like the Rakshasa set just because it look a lot like the Alonne Knight armor from Dark Souls 2 (my personal favorite in the series) and generally makes you look badass. That said, even though it doesn't debuff you, it's just nowhere near protective enough for my taste. An 8% damage increase just doesn't seem worth it.
The Shadowmen Militia set can best be farmed at the place where the golden Hippo is, once you unlocked the shortcut. There are 4 of them. I did get it as a sideeffect of farming the fireknight set (as I don't like elevator fights)
7:37 You can actually shoot him with an arrow before he aggro's on to you. He will bug out and will just stare at you and turn with you, so you can just easily kill him with barely any risk. Be careful though because if you stagger him and he still lives after the riposte or after he just stands up he will start fighting you. Of course I do not know if this was fixed in the latest patch but I did it yesterday until I had both pieces
The Rakshasa set does increase your damage taken, but it's only at the moment in which you're attacking. So if you're hitt at the moment you're attacking as well, that's when you'll see it. And damn, it can be punishing. But it is still the best set, though.
I’d say by far the best armour from the DLC has to be the solitude set. It almost gives you bull-goats levels of damage reduction & poise, but is about 5 points in weight lighter. Also, pairing the solitude helm, gloves & briefs with the night cavalry chest piece gives you the 101 poise needed to poise through any attack in pvp that can be poised through, while looking insanely badass in the meantime
I've killed 50 grave knights and got 5 gravebird knight greaves , your out here getting the whole set on one kill , I used silver tenser horns but I do have 22 arcane which is pretty low
For the shadow militiaman set, literally just farm the 4 that are outside the shortcut gate on the right side of the main gate plaza grace. They drop it, and I got the full set accidentally just running through that area, and trying weapons and builds against them and the fire knight. Didn't take long either. In fact, I had multiple copies of the set by the time I stopped farming that fire knight for his greatsword and moved on to a different one because I couldn't get him to drop it.
@Doms Roundtable About the Rakshasa set, Im pretty sure its bugged. While it does have low damage negation, one thing youll notice on equipping it is you will have the Daedicars Woe icon on your status bar (which when that talisman is equipped, doubles damage reveived) I assume each part is meant to be 25% damage increase for a total of 100, but is bugged and just doesnt increase at all.
Iirc the Rakshasa armor just has lower defenses for its weight category, meaning that you are getting less damage negation than other armours of equivalent weight, around 2%, so that might be what it means, so if your build needs a good chunk of endurance but you don't use much carry capacity, this armor trade that carry capacity for more damage.
Im a gravebird enjoyer. At 72/60 int/faith im working already with the death prince staff, so the death spells work better now, and i poured to the mix some perfumer weapons and the throwing knife for the fantasy.
Fun question to ask the Elden lords here; I am using shield for the first time now (like I’m sure a lot of people are,I see you phantoms! 😂) and was just wondering what armor set would actually be useful to wear? I got physical damage taken care of, but magic/elemental stuff goes through the shield of course
What James said. Also different Shields have different base damage reduction for phy/fire/magic/holy etc. So using the new Serpent Crest shield will increase fire damage negation and great for fights like Messmer.
There are tons of good options, one of the best/easiest would be to commit to tanking and wear the heaviest armor you can (you probably still want to stay at medium load) to get your defense up as high as possible. There are also options like the Rakshasa set in the DLC, which increases your damage taken and received. Since you're blocking a lot, taking extra damage isn't as big of a deal as it would normally be
Try and use the lighter armour sets. In this video, the Cursed Blade set would be very good since it has such high elemental damage negation. But some other things to call out. Use the pearl drake and elemental damage negation talismans. Pearl shield and Great Shield talisman also work wonders. Use crag blade or chilling mist on your main hand weapon for a easy weapon buff, and use either vow of the indomitable or barricade as a shield ash of war to really boost the shields effects and give you invisibility frames. Use weapons that can either shield poke (thrusting swords, spears, heavy thrusting swords, great spears) or weapons with good guard counters (hammers, great hammers, light great swords) to really make use of your shield. Use the new deflecting tear, and have fun
Armour dosnt matter a hole lot it adds up sure but if you are using a shield it doesn’t matter so look for stuff with different benefits instead and try to stay light other than that wear whatever you think looks cool tbh
Literally got the black knight chest and helmet going thru castle ensis like twenty minutes ago lol goes surprisingly well with the rennala hat/leon limbs getup I've been using
Does the helm that reduces the FP cost of summoning spirits also apply to stuff like the wraith calling bell, bairn, rancorcall and whatnot? Since the description of all those things does say you "summon spirits" right?
by far the best place to farm cursed blade armor set id at stagefront. just run down stairs and he will have back to you. do sneak/crit attack and finish him off as he gets up. then travel back to grace and repeat.
Not rare at all but my favourite is the Solitude set from the Western Nameless Mausoleum. The armor rating is just ridiculous, if you have a ton of equip load you don't know what to do with slapping on any of these pieces makes a huge difference. It also doesn't look as silly as some of the other very heavy armor pieces.
Ive been using ghe Fire Knight's Greatsword for most of my current playthrough. I keep wanting to use other things, like the death knight longhaft axe cuz its so fun, or my usual favorite, Great Stars, but the Fire Knight's Greatsword is just so damn strong. At full Erdtree blessing, on flame art affinity, talismans alone, no buffs, the AR is over 2000 with 80 faith. Nothing else even comes close. 90% of basic enemies get one-shotted by a simple R1. And the crazy thing is, on sacred affinity for fighting enemies weak to holy damage, the AR is even higher. With standard buffs like GV/FGMS/physik, it can get up to 3400
Black Knight set also has a way better chest plate than all the other knight sets. Still wish it wasn't there at all, but this one I can ignore at least.
Anyone trying to farm the Curseblades you should go to Stage Front ( sight of grace before Dancing Lion) and just head back down the stairs and there is one right there
Elden ring really needs to add a transmog option into the game where you can wear one set and make it look like another, I know there is a mod for it but its something that should be incorporated into the game along with a collections options that shows you what armor/weapons you have collected and were/who to farm them from.
The shadow militia head piece allows you to play as Vivi from FF IX. And with the staff that allows you cast spells and incantations you can do the whole thing… look wise, I am not so sure which would be the best armour… but hey… I just dropped an idea 😂😂
I agree farming the divine beast warrior feels almost not worth to😂 , I did it for about an hour or 2 and just got the chest pieces then lost focus and started getting bodied

The Dueling Shield is excellent for farming the Ascetic set (possibly the others too). block and attack without thinking!
The Shadowmen Militia set can best be farmed at the place where the golden Hippo is, once you unlocked the shortcut.
There are 4 of them.
I did get it as a sideeffect of farming the fireknight set (as I don't like elevator fights)
Doing a Heartless cosplay with the Shadow Militia Set. It reminds me so much of Kingdom Hearts!
I've been rolling with the armor of solitude the big giant Rock Shield and the spear from General Gaius, nothing fancy but it gets the job done
Thumbnail reminded me of the warlock mask from DS2.. the whole outfit looks like what I wore on my main save actually lol
Altered fire knight set with the Exile hood and backhand blades for a fire assassin build is the way
I did not know the greaves buffed kicks, I just used it cause it looks cool :D
I’d say by far the best armour from the DLC has to be the solitude set. It almost gives you bull-goats levels of damage reduction & poise, but is about 5 points in weight lighter.
Also, pairing the solitude helm, gloves & briefs with the night cavalry chest piece gives you the 101 poise needed to poise through any attack in pvp that can be poised through, while looking insanely badass in the meantime
The gravebird armor is arguably better than the black raptor armor as it has better resistances and weighs less, also looks cooler imo
I love how he says he’s beat the dlc multiple times, I mean I could’ve beaten it faster but I’ve been taking my time and trying to get everything
I've killed 50 grave knights and got 5 gravebird knight greaves , your out here getting the whole set on one kill , I used silver tenser horns but I do have 22 arcane which is pretty low
BK chest and shadow militia chest are 2 of my favorite in the game. BK chest looks amazing with Malicat arms and legs.
While it does have low damage negation, one thing youll notice on equipping it is you will have the Daedicars Woe icon on your status bar (which when that talisman is equipped, doubles damage reveived)
I assume each part is meant to be 25% damage increase for a total of 100, but is bugged and just doesnt increase at all.
Are the raptors black feathers better?
Great content! You sound a lot like that TH-cam cnt Metatron
Use the Scholar's Shield sorcery to buff the shield. It'll give you a guard boost, +30% physical damage negation and +70% magic damage negation.
I love the night set it looks badass and I’ve been rocking it since I found it
Raptor's Black Feathers and Grave Bird Blackquill armor have the exact same bonus to jump attack damage.
is there a video displaying the build youre using here? i want to use both of those hammers in my next run and it seems like yours is doing work
Literally got the black knight chest and helmet going thru castle ensis like twenty minutes ago lol goes surprisingly well with the rennala hat/leon limbs getup I've been using
Does the helm that reduces the FP cost of summoning spirits also apply to stuff like the wraith calling bell, bairn, rancorcall and whatnot? Since the description of all those things does say you "summon spirits" right?
Devine beast head with claws is so cool looking
by far the best place to farm cursed blade armor set id at stagefront. just run down stairs and he will have back to you. do sneak/crit attack and finish him off as he gets up. then travel back to grace and repeat.
Oh no I’m late to the party! Just wanted to add the Rellana set though, it’s got 51 poise, is really light, and looks incredibly cool.
The beast champion gauntlets and greaves match the divine beast set pretty well
Not rare at all but my favourite is the Solitude set from the Western Nameless Mausoleum.
With standard buffs like GV/FGMS/physik, it can get up to 3400
I got the shadow militia set at the fog rift catacombs
Black Knight set also has a way better chest plate than all the other knight sets. Still wish it wasn't there at all, but this one I can ignore at least.
Combine the Shadow militiaman hat with Ahnsbach's chest piece for a kick ass look.
6:34, RNGesus doesent love me that much.
Anyone trying to farm the Curseblades you should go to Stage Front ( sight of grace before Dancing Lion) and just head back down the stairs and there is one right there
You spelled militiamen wrong in the first set.
Rakshasa set could be a samurai-type set. She uses a great katana and we did not get much of those in the base game.
What’s the build with the smithscript hammer ? I tried using but I couldn’t get it to do much
Elden ring really needs to add a transmog option into the game where you can wear one set and make it look like another, I know there is a mod for it but its something that should be incorporated into the game along with a collections options that shows you what armor/weapons you have collected and were/who to farm them from.
The shadow militia head piece allows you to play as Vivi from FF IX. And with the staff that allows you cast spells and incantations you can do the whole thing… look wise, I am not so sure which would be the best armour… but hey… I just dropped an idea 😂😂
Messmer soldier armor + knight greaves + knight gauntlets + Mask of Confidence = Doctor Doom.
I agree farming the divine beast warrior feels almost not worth to😂 , I did it for about an hour or 2 and just got the chest pieces then lost focus and started getting bodied
I give up on that. After 3 hours of suffering to get it only to get a Smithing stone I left 😂
another great spot to farm militia men armor is the dark light catacombs site of grace. run out of the cave into the grave yard. there is 5 or 6 shadow men to kill. got the whole set rather quickly
The shadow militiamen helm reminds me of the lil npc from dark souls 3 I forgot his name
The militiamen’s outfit is giving me Candlejack vibes
Torrent should’ve definitely had some fashion souls
I enjoyed this video, thank you for making it. That being said - “the most rare armor” including selections that are introduced as “some of the most common to retrieve” is a bit odd!
That’s crazy you got the entire bird set first try haha
I’m enjoying the armor of solitude and it’s 96 poise myself.
