Hi Jill🌹I made this recipe tonight to the letter and it was scrumptious! Thanks for being here and making Instant Pot cooking simple and fun. 🌈 🌹🌈
Hi Josie -- I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the recipe and the soup came out just like you wanted! Thanks for watcher.
Good recipe! I basically followed your recipe, but a bit less onion, added a clove of crushed garlic, 5 cups of water total, and about 3/4 cups of ham. (We're carnivores.) This is my best Instant Pot recipe, so far. The flavor could clearly stand on its own without the ham. Thank you!
I make my pea soup almost the same way but I always add ham hock or ham or Liquid Smoke, thyme from a very good spice company and it is just like fresh and a bay leaf. I always make a double batch because it freezes well without potatoes. So I use somewhere around 11 to 12 cups of water and two bags of peas. I have never done it in my new pressure cooker so I'm learning from you! :-)
I always make a big batch too so I can freeze it up. It does freeze so well and it's nice to be able to bring out a container and heat it up. Thanks so much for watching. I hope you continue to enjoy your pressure cooker. They are sooooo great to have!
Do you add your ham when you add the peas and water?
We use ham shanks as opposed to a hock, more meat on 'em.
I love pea soup. I think I will make some tomorrow. Thenks for your recipe.
Thanks! Hope you'll enjoy the recipe
Looks delicious! Thanks for sharing! 😋
You are so welcome! Enjoy.
Love this soup. No one else likes it so it allll mine. Haha
+Laineyslife It is one of my favs, that's for sure. Sometimes I do miss the ham shank but now I know where it comes from....boo hoo poor little piggies!
Laineyslife same here at my house! They won’t try it because it’s green. Their loss my gain!
Love split pea soup! My mouth is watering now🍜
Nice and easy thank you i will make this today as i have ham to use up. Thank you for the IP video.🏴 uk
Hope you enjoy
Looks delicious
Looks perfect...going to make later this afternooon....with extra to freeze! Thanks Jill..enjoying ALL your new videos...All...hope you to as well :)
Hey! How are you doing?? So happy to see you are still keeping track of what is up with us. I hope you are well and getting ready for the big move. Keep me posted, ok??
Looks good
It does!
Thank you Jill! Love your recipes. I just tried this in my Instant Pot.
Hope you like it!
Nice! I like the idea of freezing. With the speed of making these soups, I imagine a weekend grind could make lots of soup for the winter months!
Thanks for writing and watching. Sometimes I do a marathon weekend and cook and freeze. My freezer is full of goodness that I can pull out at a moment's notice.
Thanks, Jill, for the tutorial!
I love split peas, but I've never made split pea soup! I think I'll give your recipe a try this week, looks delicious 😊
+Vegan Dog Lady SO easy!! SO satisfying! I know you'll really love it.
+Jill 4 Today I made this soup today for lunch and we loved it! It's such a simple easy recipe, thanks again for sharing. I even served it to my omni friend who liked it 😊. I'll definitely be making it again.
I am so happy to hear you liked it!! It is an easy go-to recipe. Freezes really well too.,
That looks delicious. I have to get one of these.
+The Dancing Snail You have to get one of these things! And I don't get any money to show them/demonstrate them....I just plain love using mine.
Awesome looking soup, thanks for sharing. i just bought mine today and hopefully all goes well. thanks for sharing ... from Northern Canada.
Steve Davis I just bought one yesterday. I’m going to make this soup. Yum!
I just got my Instant Pot, but have yet to use it- this looks like a great first recipe for me to try. I love split pea soup and I have all the ingredients. I love how specific you were with the instructions! Thank you for this video - I hope you do more! 😀
+Lyla san jose Hi Lyla -- this would be a great first time recipe to try. So easy, quick, few ingredients, etc. And the results are very reinforcing for your decision to buy an Instant Pot. I hope to do more IP recipes in the future. Cooking on screen is a real challenge for me so I will look at this as a growing lesson...cooking on screen.
+Jill 4 Today I hope you make more also-you did a great job! 👍🏻
Hi Jill! I love your vegan IP recipes SO MUCH and I have made them over and over! It would be so helpful if you could post the recipes (at least the ingredients and amounts) in the video description, if possible. :) Thank you!!!
Hi Olivia -- thanks for writing. I'm happy to hear you are enjoying my cooking videos. I am sorry if I left the recipe off in some of the descriptions. I am trying really hard to remember to add them -- I've been getting better at that very important detail. If you come across a recipe that you'd like the details on, please write. I'll be very happy to send the recipe to you and/or add it to the video. Thanks again!
Hi -- mine is the 6 quart. I love it!
@X-Ray Crystallography Quite honestly, I don't think it's needed. Split peas break down so quickly that I that step that would make a bowl of mush by soaking over night.
Thank you 😊 💖
Thanks 🙏🏽
Thanks!
I love the IPot too. I really like your videos. You are clear and prepared. Also, yummmmmmmm recipes!❤️ Thank you for sharing.
Oh, the IP is the bomb! I'm glad you like yours too. Thanks for the compliment. I'm a work in progress. I hope you will come back and/or subscribe.
Yum! I think I might add a little liquid smoke, just a drop.
+FruityFoodie Well, I was going to before I put the lid on the pot and forgot. But I do always add about 1/4 teaspoon to the pot and it adds that smoked ham hock thingy, you know????
Look’s yummy
Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Yum! I have thought about trying split pea soup. I may just do it now. Looks good! 😚
+The Plant Eaters do it....do it.....do it.....!
I realized the title doesn't isn't ham and split pea soup. This seems like a vegetarian split pea soup. But it reminded me of the ingredients I need for my ham and split soup 😊
Ham is a delicious item to put in the soup!
@@Jill4Today yes. My favorite soup is ham and split pea soup 🍲
great job.. thanks for sharing. if you were to add some diced ham to this, would anything else in the recipe/prep change? I liked the idea share in the comments of taking out the soupy parts and sautéing down the broth a bit.. I guess you could also add a thickener and simmer a bit? (some corn starch maybe, or instant potato flakes?)
Hi Sorahl 1 Thanks for writing! Yes, add the ham. Would be delicious. Regarding thickening the soup -- if it's not too thin, just turn the instant pot on to saute and stir until it begins to thicken up. You could add some potato flakes to thicken it up. But, beware -- when split soup cools, it gets thick and you'll need to add water to it. .
very tasty
+Sally Ali Indeed! Thanks for watching.
Wow. That was fast!
Looks great. One less pan to clean if you do it all in the Instant Pot!
Totally, huh! Glad you like the recipe.
This looks so good! I think I'm doing something wrong with my pot. It takes about 40 minutes to build up pressure! Any advice?
+Laura Castillejos It depends upon how little you have in the pot or if you might be starting off with really cold water. But it does seem a bit too long for pressure to build up. Can you give me an example of what you've tried cooking which gives you this long of a build-up time? I'm wondering if your venting knob is seated correctly? Of if you have a slight "off" with your gasket? You might check to see that your gasket is correctly seated all the way around the rim. I have found mine not all the way on from time to time. Let me know what you find out -- I'd like to know.
I'm cooking pinto beans. 2 cups that have been soaked over night. I'm going to check the things you said and see if that works. Thanks for your help!
I don't believe it should take 40 minutes to build up pressure with the contents you described. Check on the tips I gave you....I'll be interested in hearing what you discover.
It is not an instapot it is an instant pot. Mine is another brand but all pressure cookers pretty much wore the same and I have all of the presets that you have which makes it a dream!
You are so right! It's not an insta pot it's an instant pot and don't you just love em??
@@Jill4Today absitively pausa lutely! Sorry it split the second word in half I think you know what I mean. :-)
Thank you for this recipe.I have split peas and an I-pot but haven't taken the time to
look up a VEGAN RECIPE TO MAKE THE SOUP YET.
Whoops caps lock got bumped but not going to fix my words TeeHee
+Dianne RawGirl
I like that you didn't change the words! :)
+Dianne RawGirl didn't change the words? What did I say -- I can't remember jack anymore. But you do need to make this soup. I actually think I will simmer it for about 30 minutes just to thicken it up. it's really great the way it is but we like it a bit more on the thicker side.
+Jill 4 Today
I think she means that she didn't fix the words that are accidentally in capital letters! That's what I understood anyway. :)
+The Dancing Snail aaaahhhh....I wondered if that might have been the case.
Jill 4 Today b
In The Netherlands we use celeriac in ,,snert,,
Hello Netherlands! Nice of you to visit my channel. We have celeriac here in the states. I've never tried using it. It's so big!
@@Jill4Today please use it one time, when you peel it , it becomes less.
It belongs to snert.
@@sietievdw5404 thanks
Are the peas from a bag ? If so did you leave them over night in water ?
Hi Bella. You can buy dry split peas with in bulk or prepackaged. No need to presoak. Rinse them well and then cook.
Are you using a 5 quart or 6 quart Instant Pot?
Hi, you will not have to hold the sides of the pot and burn your fingers if you put a large office clip or clothespin on the top to hold it from spinning
Great Idea! Thanks for the tip.
Jill I just love your video's, but may I suggest you saute with water or veggie broth instead of oil.
I do like to use water broth but sometimes just a little bit of oil adds to flavor. Thanks so much for watching!
I feel this video is more about the insta pot then the soup
It's really about both. A good recipe that can be cooked in a pressure cooker!
Hey Jill,, on page 3 of the Instant Pot directions it says split peas are one of the foods that should not be used in a pressure cooker as they can clog the unit. Please comment on this. Don't want to ruin my brand new Instant Pot. Thanks!
You can use them (I never knew you couldn't!) and I'm surprised the book states that. To be frank with you, I think their manual is pretty poor. Having said all that. Go ahead and use them but always, always do a "Natural Release." on the pot. The lid will clog when you do a quick release (true with most beans) because it's all foamy in the pot while under pressure and if you do a quick release all that foam wants to run for the exit. Enjoy the pot! Enjoy making split pea soup.
Great tip Jill. Got a Pressure cooker xl for Christmas and have cooked everything since then in it. The thing is magical, lol. I do all the cooking for my wife and I, and always wanted to use a pressure cooker, but was super afraid as I'm sure you have heard many times. These electric ones have many safety steps on them and I feel safe the whole time. I will use natural release on everything now, just a great tip, thank you.
Mark L - the version of the manual that just came with my Duo Plus, which is the newest model, doesn't say not to use them. It cautions us to be aware that some foods like beans, oats, etc can foam and cause issues, and to follow the directions in Instant Pot recipes. Basically, not to overfill the pot.
Palm spray! Oh dear!
No palm spray. It was olive oil spray.
Why not use the soup button?
Found it interesting you did not use the "Soup" button.
The soup button is really a matter of preference. I like to use it sometimes for easier to cook soups. Glad you found us!
Where’s the printed recipe please?? Thank you.
Hi Jade, if you look in the description box below the video you'll see the recipe printed. Thanks so much for watching
needs ham, or hamhocks. More seasonings too. Otherwise good.
This is a vegan recipe. It wouldn't have any meat added. Seasons is certainly a personal preference
So know Bacon/ham ?
Not this time. And it's very good this way
Stop calling it "instapot". It's Instant pot.
As you'll note in my title of this video, and all my videos, I do refer to it as "instant pot." You'd be surprised how many people abbreviate the name and call it instapot..or better still IP. Sorry I got sloppy with my pronunciation. But hope you like the recipes! Thanks for writing.
