this podcast is fire. since common dropped the album with Pete rock, it made me look into Pete rocks catalog with cl smooth and I became the biggest fan and was trying to figure out what happened with them so I was happy y'all talked about that. and I look forward to watching the rest of the episodes to learn some hip hop history

45 King disappeared off the scene going into the 90s. His drug addiction was probably part of the reason. If he stayed on the scene then he would have stayed more relevant. He made a great comeback with Jay Z tho getting a huge hit when Hip Hop was going platinum.
DJ Cheese, from Plainfield, NJ, won the DMC Battle for Supremacy contest in 1986 and is also credited for introducing scratching and turntablism to the competition.
- Grand Wizard Theodore (accidentally) invented scratching in 1975. - Grand Master Flash was the first person to scratch on a record in 1981. - Grandmaster DST was the first person to scratch on television, performing "Rockit" with Herbie Hancock at the 26th Grammy Awards in 1984. - DJ Cheese was the first person to scratch in a DJ battle at the 1986 DMC DJ Battle.

Also a bugged out coincidence about Dante Ross being a major factor in putting Brand Nubian on considering the fact that they label White People as the Devil.
Pete was and is to this day my favorite part of that group and the album he did with Daddy Rich Dust to Dust is ill and you.could tell he learned something from his earlier struggles in the studio pre 3rd Bass.. I listen to it all the time. The contention was they were solo, Serch would have never been signed as a solo rapper, his schtick with wanting to overcompensate being down and highlighting he had a Black girl was like pandering to me, like whatever good for you, now just rap. Pete had the swag and his vocabulary was ill, he had English Lit degree from Columbia, he knew his shhh and his voice I liked. His verse on Derelict of dialect on the second album to.start that shh off was dope. Serch, IMO didn't want to be in a group, he did it because he had no choice and when he got some shine, that was gonna be the end. His solo record sucked though, Pete's was much better. LOL
Dante is a walking book of knowledge as far as Hip Hop. I remember seeing his name on a lot of Hip Hop recordings from way back.
