I thought it was calling Batman the first time I watched this because I was like 11 but now I realize because it’s a mob bank they wouldn’t try to call the police they’d call their mob enforcers or whatever
"I believe that whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you... stranger." The Joker already tells the audience what he plans to do within the first 5 minutes of the movie. But many of us don't realise this until nearing the end...
Siao La: tis why he told Batman the wrong locations for Harvey & Rachel. he claims not to be a man with the plan but he knew Batman is in love with Rachel so he sent him to Dent's location to see what impact losing Rachel would have on both of them. He had a plan the whole time. Why do you think he had the guys I this scene kill off on another. The plan was for him to be sole survivor.
The best joker is actually mark Hamil, the best live action is a toss up between Jack Nicholson who played the joker more as he is in the comics in the 1989 batman, and here with Heath ledger playing a totally different version of the character.
Was the Joker seriously just standing on the corner in full makeup? People must really be used to screwballs in Gotham if that didn't get anyone's attention.
But remember at the end of Batman Begins, the Arkham asylum was blown open and all the crazies were let loose. Remember all weren’t captured by the movies end
When we saw the first posters for this film, my cinephile friend and I were less than impressed with the guy from 10 things i hate about you taking the role.. And then we saw it and it changed every preconception about any actor we had since. Heath was the bomb
Everyone banging on about what a great scene it was yet nobody noticed a school bus driving out of a bank covered in dust straight into heavy traffic bit daft
The Joker went back just to give the bank manager a reply and also retrieved the shotgun the manager had just used to shoot at him (which he used later on when shooting the SWAT truck Dent was riding in); I think the Joker respected the manager.
Mike Antell just because they did so good of a job you want to see more of a minor character doesn’t mean they used him incorrectly in fact that means they did even better than they meant to
This part of the movie is something that I always think about, and is ingrained in my memory. As weird as it sounds, this movie was apart of my early childhood.
Joker's belief Meaning: since I didn't kill you, you move on with your life I'm moving on with mine. We are strangers you don't come for revenge since there's nothing going on between U n me. Strangers hold no grudge for strangers.... When he said "I believe what ever doesn't kill U simply makes you stranger"
As much I admire it's real world approach to themes that are relevant since 9/11, The Dark Knight benefits greatly for not going overboard with its realism.
The only good scenes were the one with Joker. Eric Roberts playing a mafia boss and those other "gangsters" in the movie were about as threatening as Stephen Hawking with a weapon. This scene and the scene where the Joker walks down the street shooting his sub machine gun at cars after he flips the 18-wheeler were my favorite parts. This scene was the best opening scene of a movie ever.
Commander Fun Heath Ledger was the only reason why this movie made so much money at the box office. If he hadn't died,"The Dark Knight" would've gotten mediocre reviews at best.
For sure, but Joker is the best part of this movie. Even if Ledger wouldn't died. 1 and 3 new Batman are very medicore but The Dark Knight was very good.
BigBoss1982 theres a strong argument every movie was the best in the trilogy. Rewatch batman begins. Batmans origin story finding ras al ghul and the training was phenomenal. The cannon that turns water into vapor was kind of weak but everything else about the movie was great. I saw it as a boy when it came out and rewatched it recently. I never appreciated the movie fully until now.
This is a great scene but cinema sins here Who was was supposed to kill the guy who got shot gunned in the back ? If they were all told a single person each then was that guy planned to get shot .......
It wasnt a fail at all. Just a realisitc physics for our human being that always get, nothing is perfect in real life. That’s how Nolan made the characters much more believable that they could existed in our world.
When the other guy says 'He's out (of bullets), right?', the Joker pretends to think and says, yes. I think he knew that there still was a bullet left but he chose not to tell the other guy because he hoped he'd get killed by that one. Just my thought.
"Where did you learn to count!?!?" Whomever they got to voice that character earned his money very easily.
Sounds like woods from black ops, also everyone in this scene has a gruff voice, they all sound so badass

Quoting Nietzsche says a lot ‘bout his character.
Love how he uses the shotgun from this scene throughout the movie

And the full auto glock.
Saw this movie 5 times in the theater. Everytime with someone new who had not scene it. I still got chills and was excited everytime.
One of the best movie openings of all time. Grabs your attention immediately and never lets go.
Heath ledger sheer intelligence and his expressions took movie to next level. Though he is no more this scene tell who he is after many decades
Iconic scene. Iconic roles. No movie DC produces could ever hold a candle to this masterpiece or its Joker and Batman.
best opening scene in a movie ever. Best Joker ever. Best Batman movie ever.
DruMeister oi gente
The Joker is the only good thing in this whole Batman movie... XD

MCU was nothing in b.o till Avengers .. this movie bitched on Iron man [released same year ] both in B.O & oscar LOL !
in my opinion except DTK, both produce only blockbuster, bad qualiy movie but whit nice special effect.
Sandile Ngwenya
qweqwe Dwight Well I don’t see you naming a movie that beats the Dark Knight.
This along with the bank robbery in Heat has to be the best robbery scenes in a movie.
I fucking love Nolan and Ledger’s anarchist crime drama joker interpretation. It worked out SO well.
Nothing can’t beat Dark Knight! Best movie ever made 💯
When you take over a role that fits Jack Nickelson like a glove...and yet you do a better job at it...
When i saw this opening scene for the first time I realised its not just a batman movie, its something special
Why?
This bank robbery felt like the movie HEAT in a lot of ways. "Let's go pal, I'm making a withdrawal here" lol
My dad could actually see them filming this scene from his office building.
Sharp Shot EFX thats awesome dude!
I would've been able to see it, but a different building was blocking it, but I didn't know it was being filmed at the time anyway.
Sharp Shot EFX Noice
That's right son
4,50 he had both of his arms free when the joker left he could of pulled the tear gas out of his mouth.
Was the Joker seriously just standing on the corner in full makeup? People must really be used to screwballs in Gotham if that didn't get anyone's attention.
sonrouge I mean, he did seem to have his head down...but I also totally agree wtf lol.
sonrouge fun fact when they shot that scene Heath Ledger wasn't wearing makeup.
That might explain things off camera, but in universe, he had to have had his makeup on already.
Not far enough to hide his face.
But remember at the end of Batman Begins, the Arkham asylum was blown open and all the crazies were let loose. Remember all weren’t captured by the movies end
Best joker ever, I remember watching this in the theater. Sooo good

iL0veHayleyWilliams You know he was also in a small film called Brokeback Mountain lol
The Heat Robbery scenes are combined in one sequence. Great respect to Michael Mann by Chris Nolan. He is a big fan of The Heat movie.
love how their using 1973 Chevy Suburban
as the getaway vehicle
Starkiller dude actually it's a school bus lol
I am Bored have you actually watched the same video as everyone else here?
They should have used a muscle car for their escape. People love muscle cars for some reason.
Everyone banging on about what a great scene it was yet nobody noticed a school bus driving out of a bank covered in dust straight into heavy traffic bit daft
you have obviously never taken a bus in the city
CLEARLY
It's a Christopher Nolan movie, you are not supposed to look at it too closely
ROBERT DEAN Heres a thing. Make it belivable.
The Joker timed it when school got out and he blended in with the other buses.
Hatsoff to u HZ ur amazing with ur bgm I jst got goosebumps with ur background score n good idea by christopher nolan the way he pictuirised this shot

What this movie?
Batman 89 and Begins are better.
It may have been a small part, but William Fichtner played the bank manager with his usual brilliance.
The Joker went back just to give the bank manager a reply and also retrieved the shotgun the manager had just used to shoot at him (which he used later on when shooting the SWAT truck Dent was riding in); I think the Joker respected the manager.
Ok
Yeah they could have done a lot more with the manager character I don't feel like he was properly utilized...
Mike Antell just because they did so good of a job you want to see more of a minor character doesn’t mean they used him incorrectly in fact that means they did even better than they meant to
He still made it on time to blend in with the other school buses
This part of the movie is something that I always think about, and is ingrained in my memory. As weird as it sounds, this movie was apart of my early childhood.

Who was was supposed to kill the guy who got shot gunned in the back ?
If they were all told a single person each then was that guy planned to get shot .......
Jack Carmichael: well the Joker knowing it was a mob bank knew the branch manager would be armed to protect the mobs money & assets. He was collateral
the bus driver. probably the guy who was ran over by the bus driver was supposed to be killed by the guy who got shot in the back.
He wasn’t killed

One Hell of a way to introduce a charachter
Payday the movie
Yep, this movie was the biggest inspiration for payday developers.
