    You could spray / soak the new one in 303 Protectant , wipe off with microfiber towel and install .

      @@DansWay Yes , and wondering if you have mentioned the drain pan underneath and filter behind access door , front lower . To be cleaned out I suppose regularly . And for the drain hole you showed , that I expect goes to the drain pan . I would use a tube brush , many with flexible wire extensions ? to feed into the drain and push in and out . Maybe to spray/ pour sometype of cleaner as a " lubricate " also . Follow up with warm/hot water to rinse away the cleaner . And last to pour white vinegar for it's deordorizing ability . As for white vinegar , I try to pour a gallon down each sink , shower , bathtub drain once a month . Before going to sleep so it won't get washed away , with water passing through . Though I have seen special cleaners for front loading machines .

    Watched this a couple of months ago out of necessity (that’s how I found your channel), forgot to like back then 👍🏼so did now. Thanks for the great info on a variety of topics. I have shared your wisdom with a few friends who had no idea you could change those mingy gaskets.

    Thanks Dan, I need to do this on my LG front load, however I may go further and remove the front panel to give easier access to the seal. It's like taking a detour to avoid a traffic jam, it's a longer drive but you know you'll get there! Thanks!

      Haha, yah, I get it. I wanted to show that you don’t have too because many would think it impossible to fully disassemble. Also mine are stacked and that would also make it a pain…. Let me know how it turns out!

    Thank you! I don’t need to replace the gasket because we dry it out after every wash. And I bought dry bead packets to tuck into the folds between washes. But we also have 2 dogs and my front drain is clogged. So, I will now be able to clean that out. Hopefully that does the trick! Thank you. And yes, I will take the opportunity to clean the parts of the gasket that I can’t get to.😅

    I've had my washer for 10 years and I keep the front loading washing machine door open after every wash so the rubber seal and the interior doesn't get moldy. I also use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the moisture from the door and around the rubber gasket. I had no moldy build up at the bottom interior of my seal.

    Question: Can I unclog the drain tube without removing the rubber gasket? I clean my gasket regularly but I think the real problem is that the drain tube may be clogged. We had a Shiba...although sadly lost him a few years ago.

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry about your Shiba! You can push a bent wire or large paper-clip down there to see if you can push it through or snag the clog. The meat baster can be used to force water down through the hole as well. Should flow freely down. Otherwise you can just remove the outer ring to get under the gasket enough to perhaps get the small tube disconnected from the drain and work on it. Not sure about that. Let me know what you figure out!

    Hello Dan, you are a blessed teacher to save me from the Repairmen draining my already empty pockets. My kenmore will not dry my clothes. The lights on the far right panel keep blinking. I'm trying now to clean out the lint trap and rear air hose. But, I am thinking about what could keep the dryer to get hot or even warm to dry my clothes. Can you subject how we can fix that malfunction. Thank⚘you, Dan, for you very valuable information.

    Hi there, will the washer stop working if the door gasket is clogged?

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t think that would be something the washer would know about. There is no sensor there.

    Draino in the drain tube maybe? 🤔

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That might work if it is a hair-ball... Follow that up with a strong flow of water to clear it to the next level filter in the washer perhaps.

    What does it mean when there is water in the rubber seal after the load is washed?

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Tarah, this likely means that the hole at the bottom is clogged. Try using a meat baster to blast water down the hole to clean it out. If it stays clogged then you might have to remove the seal like I showed in the video to get that tube clean.

    I think I would tie a simple string around that spring. If it drops down into the machine, it could then be easily fished out. Then snip the string when you’re done.

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great suggestion. Thanks for that!

    • @shaunsmith3747

      The fishing line literally saved me when the spring went flying off the end of the stretch tool into the abyss below, pulled it right back up, brilliant suggestion! Along those same lines, the spring clamp that holds the drain tube on, I did lose that one into the abyss, couldn't retrieve it, but for anyone else that might happen to, the stainless steel adjustable tube clamps from Lowes work much much easier/better than the spring clamp. In fact if if I had to do again I'd just start with the adjustable clamp and not even try to re-install the spring clamp. Cheers!

    Dude. . .we have 4 dogs (2 with double coats ) and 2 cats (1 longhair) and our washer is 10 years old and our seal looks like your after pic. . .just get industrious and clean it after every use and you won’t get that grossed out mess. . .my granddaughter (a less than industrious 17 year old) and I share all the laundry chores for 4 people and even she gets the point of cleaning assiduously.

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yah, sadly it was somewhat stained when we first bought it and it slowly got worse. We didn’t notice the drain was clogged which kept a puddle there after every wash even if we kept the door open. The rubber itself is/was stained so cleaning didn’t really change things.

    • @PCT6566
      @PCT6566 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I second this...just wipe the gasket dry every time you finish with the laundry. Pull out the dispenser basket to air out.
      Run the drum cleaning cycle every time the machine reminds you...or if yours doesn't have one...just run the highest temp cycle...i usually pour a cup of white vinegar in this cleaning cycle too.
