OMFG!!!!!!I've been fighting this stupid door for an hour!!!! it took me less than 10 minutes using your method! you just got a new subscriber. thank you
After an hour I asked my wife for help to no avail. I thought I would spend hours trying to find a solution, if at all but I found Ben’s Appliance video in a matter of minutes. Thank you so much, Joe
Ok… seriously this is one of the best ever TH-cam repair tips ever…. I spent 1.5 hours hopelessly trying to reinstall my Bosch washer gasket exterior spring… this videos very creative fix worked perfectly in less than 10 minutes… it worked awesomely… thank you, thank you…!!
You absolute legend! I was on the point of booking an engineer to put this sprung hoop back on for me. I spent a looong time trying myself and looking for help on the interwebs. I like to think I am quite handy but this this had me beat. Thanks so much.
Ben, You DA MAN! Thanks for this! WOW!!! You're one of your Favorites I Watch on TH-cam! Subscribed! 2 thumbs UP! It's very rewarding to work on washers, dryers and refrigerators, and other appliances.
This the way, to quote the Mandalorian. You are an absolute genius. I don't even want to admit how long I struggled with the boot seal, ordered the tool and then found this.
I took a cheap 16" bar clamp & reversed the end so it's now a spreader & put zip ties on the ends connected to the ring spring & it worked great expanding that spring in order to get the ring into place
I forgot to try this! Wish i had. My hands arent strong enough to use the needle nose pliers on the zip ties. After struggling snd struggling, I finally grabbed my locking pliers and clamped them on the zip tie. Finally that worked! But the bar clamp sounds better!
I had to tackle this alone without an expander. This trick, did the trick. I had to use double zip ties on each end, but once in place, I cut one one each side and the spring stress broke the other two. Works great. Thank you.
Thank You. You just saved me a trip to buy a “special tool” I didn’t need but once or twice in my lifetime!!! After trying with the help of my son for 20 minutes, I watched your video and I did it myself in less than 5 minutes.
Thanks - the spanner hack worked, I had changed the door interlocker (easy), putting the gasket wire spring was a different matter, your idea WORKED! A big thanks
You’re unbelievable man! This took me about 10 mins after struggling for two hours or more to get the spring back on using long nose pliers. Thanks so much! 🙏🙏
Worked way better than I expected. The only issue was the tie would slip out of the eye in the spring. Had to squeeze the eye a bit more to close it. Wish I knew this the last time I had to take the gasket off. It saved me from buying a tool I hope to never need again. Good job.
Soooooo frustrating to get to the very end of taking all the front parts of my Samsung washer apart to replace the drain pump (successfully!), getting it back together and be stumped by this last step. After many attempts to stretch the spring without popping the gasket out of its rim, I finally came back to find help. Thank’s Ben, you have saved my sanity, at least for today.
Nice and simple. My bar clamp spreader method was bulky and clumsy. I've been in love with cable ties since I first met one. Now my love is stronger than ever.
After replacing a broken door lock on a frontloader, next was installing the boot. I watched this video and did it just as demonstrated and it worked! I did use a longer wrench to cover the extra distance of the door opening. Thx for this genius hack!👍
I've been wrestling with a door boot spring for more than I should have been today, so searched for some secrets, found this...and it took me longer to make the device than to get the spring on...thank you so much for you're invaluable help.
Thank you!!! This saved Christmas at my house! I was devastated when the seal popped off, spent hours on the phone making an appointment w/ GE to fix it a week out, and then found this video. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I replaced the seal on my Samsung Front Loader about a year ago and I'm having to redo the seal now...while looking for the original video that showed how to take things apart..I discovered your video and remembered so much the sweat and struggle I had to get that spring on..This advice here is a game changer. Thank you so much for sharing!
Brilliant hack! I got to 1:38 and saw where you were going with this! Took me more time to say thanks than it took to get that pesky spring re-installed! Thanks a million!
Thank you so much!!!!! This worked a treat!!!!!! I visited 4 tool shops, ended up ordering the tool online but after finding out it would take 10 days to arrive I sourced ideas and found your video. We have four kids so our washing machine need to be working every day. Thank you!!!!!
THIS…..THIS is freaking BRILLIANT. My door boot is 16+ years old, and the outer spring came off and ended up in the main drum area. I sort-of noncommittally jiggled it back to sort of in place, and it still leaks. I can tell just by watching here that this will work really well.
Thank you so much for this video. We have a large family, and when my oldest son brought my morning tea with the news that this strange wire with a spring had come off the washing machine - well, I could have panicked. I turned to Google and TH-cam, found this video, and now the washer is all good again! Thanks again!
I had already purchased the spring expansion tool on Amazon. The issue was the size of the prongs on the tool, the one eyelet on the spring was too small. This hack was amazing, although I did need to make one adjustment. The zip ties also were too wide to fit through the eyelet with the spring inserted. I adjusted this hack by using sisal twine, tied that end tight, had long enough zip ties to attach to the other spring eyelet and expand the spring per the hack. I did need to make a further adjustment, I doubled the sisal twine, as a single strand broke as I expanded the spring. Greatest hack ever!!
Thank you so much! I did it! I really wanted to do this by myself without having to ask for help, and this worked! I also want to share my appreciation for referencing in your video that women can do this too.
I have the same type washer as shown in this video. Its about 2 years old and all of a sudden it would start spinning but would stop after about 5 seconds. There are very few videos on you tube because it is so new. I found the trouble code and troubleshooting on one of your videos. The trouble shooting indicated the problem was with the Hall Sensor. Looking at other videos on hall sensors it appeared that they just clip on and would be easy to replace. Using info from another one of your videos, I opened up the machine but there was no hall sensor visible. It appeared that the hall sensor was built in to the motor so I replaced the motor. Machine still did not work. I got a wiring diagram from GE it it appeared the hall sensor is connected to the inverter board. I replaced the inverter board and the machine works like new. I was also very thankful for your video on expanding the spring to reinstall the rubber gasket!!!!! Your videos were very helpful. I don't know how to do you tube videos, but I thought I would pass this along so you might do a video some time in the future. Thanks again!!
I totally used this tip this morning! Every time I tried to squeeze the two ends together, it would pull the gasket off its spot. Pre-stretching the spring to pretty close to clearing the gasket gave me the time to make sure the spring was in place before I cut the wire ties. popped right on! I also used a 5/8" wrench and 8" wire ties as suggested. Wife was getting ancy about getting her washer back. thanks, for the great tip!
Hats off to Ben for sharing this "MacGyver". Worked like a charm. For others about to use this trick, pay attention to the final position of the zip-tie joints he shows - makes it simple to leverage the pliers to tighten.
Another AMEN to all the other positive notes! My washer has been a nightmare (replacing two bearings...total tear-down)... your hack is a blessing...worked perfectly. Thank you!
I just used zip ties straight through the eyelets on a Samsung spring several years ago, using the tails as pull handles to spread the spring after I had proximately placed it in the seal groove. It worked a treat after I carefully cut the ties and pulled them out of the eyelets using a bit of detergent as lube! Your method looks more controllable.
You are the Man. Mine popped off somehow a year or so ago. Me & one of my sons eventually got it back on. I later saw the pliers & thought it wasn't that hard to spend that much money for something I'll probably never do again. My seal just blew out with several holes & a big rip. Some reason my wife seems to think her ink pens need washing from time to time. Great idea, think outside the box. Thanks another for tip & will be using it a little later today when my seal gets here. Have a beer on me & thanks again
You saved my rear end! I bought my mother in law a new washer and dryer and was reversing the doors. Wasn't paying any attention to the fact that the washer door was not reversible until I took the two screws out of the door sensor and it fell down. Getting it out was easy... Then I couldn't figure out how to get this stupid ring back on. Thank you so much for this video.
OMG! This is genius! I spent hours om trying to put that ring back and had no success. I knew there must be some way to put it on but did not think about the wrench! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Took me a minute to put the ring on after failing few stretching attempts.
I never comment but this deserves one - It was too easy and beats all the other hacks by a mile. Job done in a 5 minutes. Seriously, the hardest part is finding a spanner, pliers and cable ties and packing up. Total legend, sir👍👍👍
This is a great solution. The quality of the zip ties is critical. I needed to double up the ties for my crappy ones to work. Need a 7 inch long wrench.
Thank you! I had been trying quite a while with the spring spreader tool that wasn’t big enough for my machine. Using the wrench made a lot of sense. I did break off the tail of one of the zip ties but had enough space on the other to pull some more. I used a couple of sturdy bamboo chopsticks to get the spring pulled down in place. It wasn’t easy but it did work. Thanks again! Saved a service call.
Wow, this worked like a charm. Struggled to get it on by sheer brute force, but then I found this tip. Did one try to see if spring had stretched enough, it hadn’t. Stretched it some more, slipped it on, tucked in all sides and cut the zip ties…done!! Thank you!
Finally took my machine apart today, and I got to this step, and fought with it for about 10 minutes then I remembered watching this video last year. Pulled it up, watched it again, 3-4 minutes later, done!! 😊😮 thanks
This is amazing. Yes it worked great!! Thank you so much. I replaced the inverter on mine bc it wasn't going to the spin cycle and fixed it. I would also add I used the 5/8 craftsman wrench that has a slight bend on the end. Make sure you put the wire in the inside of the curve to match up with the washer.
Thanks for the video. Took me a few tries with different wrenches etc, but got it to work. Thanks for spending the time to help us mentally challenged DIY’s.
hi, thanks , much appreciated, i had to put a longer spanner in the vice, used two ties on one end - they kept snapping - stretched the spring with vice grips on the wire then tie the spring on the other end, worked.. cheers.
Saw this hack a few years back. Now that I need to replace it, this video came up on my 1st search and works great. For women, a cuticle cutter works great to cut the tie, but working the tie in place will require the needle nose plier. If you are OCD like me, use a soft nail filer w/ a curb edge to push the seal back tightly without puncturing.
Thank you! I did buy the cheap version of the real tool on Amazon but it was too wide at its narrowest position to go into the springs, and not wide enough at its open position to get the spring back on. I did finally manage to get the old gasket back on but it took forever and was so frustrating. I now have the new gasket ready to install and I feel much more confident about starting that project!
I bought one of those tools to stretch the spring… it finally arrived and it’s to big… frustrating… I found this video… I cannot Thankyou enough…. Few minutes later door boot seal back on this method stretched the spring easily and putting seal back on was so easy. Happy to report washing machine working fine…. Thankyou so much. You saved me time, money and stress. 😊
Ben thank you ! Surprised when I opened the door to my fairly new GE front loaders gasket askew.... After multiple failed attempts I found your video. VERY simple to complete. Thank you again!!!
After struggling with the ring for a hour I came accross this great video, and job was completed in 10 minutes. Thanks so much young man for your timesaving and probably some blood video
I used your spring stretching technique and it worked beautifully. Thank you so much as I was just beginning to contact repair shops to see if I could rent a tool when I saw your video. Thank you very much.
I tried your wrench technique but couldn't get things to line up properly. I ended up going even more minimal and used just cable ties just to pull the two ends together and eventually it worked. Thanks for the idea!
I made my own spring expander using one of my quick grip clamps. I fed the clamp in reverse so when you pull the clamp trigger it expands instead of grips. Then I drilled two screws through clamp, inserted the screw ends into the spring holes and expanded expanded it with the clamp trigger. BINGO!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I struggled so much thinking I could do it without any tools. Impossible. I also could not find tool in my area anywhere. Needed it up and running as soon as possible. Your trick worked like a charm. Thanks alot.
I love the trick. A cheap set of autobody body trim tools would work better than the needle nose pliers and are less likely to damage the new gasket. Great vid.
Soap your fingers and the spring, slide your thumbs around the spring while putting it on. Only one I can’t get is an LG and I just use the tool for those. Works every time
What a *brilliant* hack! I have an LG in a rental cabin that I need to replace the door gasket on, and the two local appliance repair places say they won’t work on LG appliances. (I dunno what other people in the area do; I just figured I can take a day and drive up there and back but I was worried about dealing with the clamp wings. I did buy a cheap version of the tool you showed on Amazon, but I’ve been concerned about it not opening wide enough.)
This Guy is Freaking Brilliant- Thank you. I spent hours trying to get it to go on and stumbled on this video. Had mine on in minutes. The dude who made this video deserves a golden medal!
Thank You so much! got the ring back on the washer easy! snapped into place. Moral of this story for me is to not buy GE junk period! My wife picked this exact washer over a smaller Amana or Maytag choice. Next time we're buying American made only, no GE junk!
Thank you so much for this! I struggled for quite a while last night trying to replace the spring ring. This worked exactly as shown & is the only way I could have gotten it done. THANK YOU!
Just tried another method shown on a different video...many times...without success, and with a lot of frustration. This looks brilliant, and I am now very hopeful that I can finish putting my machine back together! Looking forward to trying it tomorrow!
It worked!!! Thank you SOOOO much! I couldn't wrangle it on by myself, but using both the womanly AND manly hands in the household, we succeeded! Such a relief! Now to see if the washer still works. 😀
Tried the trick. Broke the cable ties. Got mad enough to bare hand it back into place. Thanks anyways. 😂
THIS..... IS THE BEAUTY OF THE INTERNET!!! God bless you sir. Worked like a charm! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This is exactly what I needed. I didn't have time to wait, nor did I want to spend money on a tool I might never use again. Thank you!

Hah! Another brilliant idea’

Thank you, I got it done in 10 minutes after 1 hour of why and how and curses. Really appreciate the time you spent making this video. :)
Unreal, can’t believe it’s this difficult to get this piece back in place. Thank you sir!

12:30 on a Sunday night and we just put our washer back together thank you so much for your channel

After an hour and a half of me and my wife trying. Found this video had it done in two minutes. Thank you
Another AMEN to all the other positive notes! My washer has been a nightmare (replacing two bearings...total tear-down)... your hack is a blessing...worked perfectly. Thank you!
I love this solution. What should have been an easy end to my repair job was getting very frustrating. You gave me hope again so now it’s fixed.
Thank you! I've spent an hour trying with my bare hands to no avail. And then watched this and success after 5 minutes. You are a life saver!
This is the best hack! I fought with the metal ring all afternoon and almost gave up hope until I found this video. Thank you!!!!!

This WORKS!! I spent an hour trying to get the exterior spring on to no avail. I tried this and it went on the first time.
I never comment but this deserves one - It was too easy and beats all the other hacks by a mile. Job done in a 5 minutes. Seriously, the hardest part is finding a spanner, pliers and cable ties and packing up. Total legend, sir👍👍👍
Thanks!
Worked PERFECTLY. I didn't even have the right wrench. Mine was short and open on both ends. Thanks so much!!!
Great tip. I didn't have strong-enough ties so I used rope instead, and with a wide-enough double-headed wrench it worked. Thanks for the help.
This is a great solution. The quality of the zip ties is critical. I needed to double up the ties for my crappy ones to work. Need a 7 inch long wrench.
Just tried your tip for putting on the outter spring/wire hoop. Wow, thank you. Worked great.
I was at my wits end when I found this video. It works! I was done within :10 after watching this. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the help again. Watched the first video to check the pump. This hack for the door boot gasket was genius!
😊😮 thanks
This process took me all of 5 minutes. You, sir, are a genius!
Thanks for spending the time to help us mentally challenged DIY’s.
hi, thanks , much appreciated, i had to put a longer spanner in the vice, used two ties on one end - they kept snapping - stretched the spring with vice grips on the wire then tie the spring on the other end, worked.. cheers.
Bless your gorgeous heart that spring had been kicking my can for a day after replacing the pump on my LG front loader.
Fantastic hack, struggled for half an hour before seeing this and then it went straight on, thanks
OMG...thank you thank you...this was the most amazing hack I have seen. It worked and you saved me money, aggravation and time. Thank you again......
You're welcome!
You sir are awesome! I fought and fought to get that dang spring back on without a spring tool. Then I found your video and it worked first try. 👍🏻
Ben thank you ! Surprised when I opened the door to my fairly new GE front loaders gasket askew.... After multiple failed attempts I found your video. VERY simple to complete. Thank you again!!!
I just put back the door boot seal after watching your video. Thank you for the tutorial
Wonderful! It's saved me a time or too as well
I tried your wrench technique but couldn't get things to line up properly. I ended up going even more minimal and used just cable ties just to pull the two ends together and eventually it worked. Thanks for the idea!
Thanks so much! This was a great hack. I had no other option unless I wanted to wait 4-5 days for shipment of other tool/part. Saved my weekend!!
I made my own spring expander using one of my quick grip clamps. I fed the clamp in reverse so when you pull the clamp trigger it expands instead of grips. Then I drilled two screws through clamp, inserted the screw ends into the spring holes and expanded expanded it with the clamp trigger. BINGO!
This is the best video hack ever. I was able to get the wire back on with no trouble at all. Kuddos to you!!!
Dang. This was money. Same story as all the rest, I worked way too long unsuccessfully until I found your tip. Thank you!!!!
This worked for me. You saved me $120, thank you so much, appreciate it.
Great vid.
Very clever! As I get older my wrists get weaker! This solves my problem. Thanks so much!
You're top, number 1, you should be an engineer, but if you're not, you should be!
Genius! You saved from hours a of headache trying to get that that back on! It took less than 5 minutes and I just finished.👍
This Guy is Freaking Brilliant- Thank you. I spent hours trying to get it to go on and stumbled on this video. Had mine on in minutes. The dude who made this video deserves a golden medal!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! You saved me a trip to Home Depot for a tool and $80!!!! Freaking Genius!!!
Thank you so much for this!!! This was so helpful. I don't think I'd have been able to get the spring back on without this video.
Your method worked perfectly in less than 4 minutes! Thanks
Thank You so much! got the ring back on the washer easy! snapped into place. Moral of this story for me is to not buy GE junk period! My wife picked this exact washer over a smaller Amana or Maytag choice. Next time we're buying American made only, no GE junk!
Add me to the list of success stories. I was surprised how easily it worked!!
Tried this trick on a Hotpoint H500. Worked a treat. Thank you.
I do not have words to express my appreciation towards you 🙌🏻
You deserve a freaking lobster dinner dude. Worked 100% first try. Legend.
Damn dude, that's pure genius!!!
Thank you so much for this! I struggled for quite a while last night trying to replace the spring ring. This worked exactly as shown & is the only way I could have gotten it done. THANK YOU!
Wow, we tried getting this spring on for over an hour till we found your video. Genius! Thank you for your tip!!
Absolutely had that problem!
Genius! I wish I saw this video before I struggled to get mine on yesterday.
Thanks! Used this trick took me 20 mins. Our boot got twisted up in a load of blankets. So it was frustrating
