MURDER-SUICIDE: Human Remains Found in Sunken Car | The Case of Stephanie Nguyen

  • The Nguyen family was last seen on April 19, 2002, the day after they left home when a police officer stopped Stephanie in her car, a green 1997 Nissan Pathfinder with the Ohio license plate number ADH7739, near a boat ramp to the Ohio River.
The officer stopped her for failing to dim her headlights and noticed two children, presumably Kristina and John, asleep in the backseat of the vehicle.
Stephanie left behind notes for her husband and parents saying her failed marriage had driven her to death and she was going to kill herself and her children by driving into the Ohio River near the Grand Victoria Casino.
She disappeared along with her two children, Kristina and John.
The officer was the last person to have seen Stephanie and her 2 children alive.
This documentary brings you alongside Adventures With Purpose's search in Rising Sun, Indiana, following clues about Stephanie's last known location near the boat ramp, not far from the Grand Victoria Casino where Stephanie worked.
You'll witness the search performed by AWP on that day and how Stephanie's vehicle was located in this documentary.

Stephanie's car was found in the Ohio River near Aurora, Indiana. There was a human bone inside the vehicle, and the bone was identified as Stephanie's in January 2022.
There was no indication as to the whereabouts of either of the children, however, and it's not clear whether they were in fact in the car when it went into the river.

They didn't find the children though so I really hope that she sent them somewhere instead of taking them with her.
But some can be in such deep depression that they genuinely think that it's better for the children to die too, that they wouldn't be safe and be unhappy. They think that they do what is best for the children, in their mibd they do it out of love

This level of knowledge and experience is something not many police forces or county authorities have available to them, so your expertise is a double-edged blessing. Maybe not sick but desperate. You do not know if someone was threatening to harm her AND her children and in what way. There are some things worse than death. If you know someone who seems stressed all of the time, cries a lot or red around the eyes as if they have been, even if they deny it. AT LEAST give them phone numbers to child protective services, adult services, places that assist with rent. Food banks. ALL OF THE ABOVE it is a shot in the dark and if you do not know what the person needs get a list together. CALL police. Ask them if someone HAS been threatened who is someone they can turn to for confidential help if they are AFRAID to turn to local police departments and give them THAT phone number, maybe a women's shelter. NOT talking about anyone specific. Trafficking is no joke and drug dealers will take children over a debt. So to say a mother who commits suicide WITH their kids if that is the threat, "I will sell your kids into that life style" whether a dealer or a boyfriend or just someone powerful, are you SURE you blame that woman now? I was trafficked, I am 65 and I still live with it everyday. I am glad to be alive, glad I have adult children who are in my life and desperately sad for my children that died, others I saw die and the chronic pain. God is good always.

It's all about punishing the man that didn't want HER anymore. Unfortunately for children, today's woman has been conditioned to believe that they're the only parent, and that children shouldn't survive without them. This is pushed by the court system that views fathers as nothing more than money machines. In a society that whines for "equity" at every opportunity, that sure doesn't seem to apply to child custody.

Less "reach out to someone" and more being a person someone can reach to. It is REAL easy to tell someone depressed/suicidal to "just reach out" - what you don't realize is we already feel like a burden. We may have had encounters in our past that showed us reaching out was a mistake, either because we were disparged or someone minimalized our experience. We usually have a pretty steady stream of thoughts going through our mind of how we'll just make someone upset, they won't understand, we won't be understood, basically a long list of possibilities and reasons to not reach out. We don't always have the strength to get around it. Be the one who reaches out, not the one who tells us to do something we quite possibly can't.

Every time I watch something else videos I think of this time when I was a kid I was like 15 and went swimming at the lake and I was floating on my back and thought how weird it was that I'd smell gas well I stood myself up in the water you know like I pulled myself forward and when I did I stood up on top of a car and my foot ran down the windshield and touch the windshield wiper I'd never moved so fast in my life we left and my mom called it in and never know what become of it it's crazy because it was still on the boat dock wasn't very far out and there was trucks there with trailers on it like boats had been in the water they went right over it and didn't even know but when I think back on it I wonder if it wasn't somebody who had did it on purpose or an accident because of the way that the drive is it could have very well possibly been an accident or something else I'll never know but after watching those show I guess it's a pretty common thing in my area I'm not technically in Nashville but close enough.. anyway sorry for the long comment just wanted to tell you guys how amazing you are ♥️

If they aren't funded to have the training and the equipment, they use far more energy for a case like this that can be used for others sitting at their desks. AWP can pick and choose, and have the time and money, and experience to search. The police are forced to choose priority at their work and sadly, it leads to this. @Its me or whatever Agree 100%. I hope she suffered until her very last breathe! My husband took his own life after his 3rd tour overseas but he did it because he thought he was a burden on our 3 children and me. He would have NEVER hurt his own children!

Another amazing case documentary as always guys it's interesting that now that times gone on it seam's even the local pds are willing to document and share footage or photography with you guys of the car and stuff to give everyone a better insight as what happened.
There's something errie and morbid about it yet hauntingly beautiful to see the process of a car being brought up slowly out of the water with clear visuals and the knowledge as the tarp covers it a loved one is brought home to be finally put to rest.
Keep up the amazing work bringing people home and documentary footage of it all as everything happens.
Even love the tips and stuff one rigging the vehicles I'm sure that's probably info that's come in handy for some recovery crew watching your videos.
Take care and as always keep bringing closer to those who need it

Does anyone know how long it takes for a car to submerge? I can’t imagine it’s a quick suicide…the fear and, possibly, regret in those final moments is heartbreaking.

I think many factors would make a difference. Make of car, depth of water, speed, weather...though most likely I would imagine a minute or two at best.

Thank you so much for your help with locating as well as continuing the search on missing people. Thanks should also be given to the people that have assisted in searching or have donated to assist future searches. Sometimes the answer is a question itself in some cases.

We sadly had an event like this in my village when I was a child. They didn't go into the river, they set a fire instead. But it was also a parental murder suicide. The remaining parent was a wreck, especially with the accusations that came along. But the evidence was super clear, he was just a father who lost everything all at once. He was at work and came home to his entire world shattered. It is so tragic.

These men are so kind and professional. I've been watching them a while now and the respect they have and just that attitudes is amazing. I'm honestly not used to that. My ex-husband is a complete narcissist LOL I just want to give credit where credit is due. It's nice to see Good Men still in this world doing good things!

When you have depression set in your mind. You can't think outside the box. The only thing you think about is getting rid of the depression. I have been down this horrible road before. The best thing I have done before is tell my adult son. The next day it's goes away after talking about it. There's been times the same day he's said "Mom I think it's time for you to take a break from life for a few days". I get put into the hospital or a crisis bed which your not in the hospital but can keep your cellphone and still get a few groups in day but scaled down. You can leave when you feel your ready. Do you have depression and don't know where to go?? Call your local mental health center they should have a crisis Hot line to call, they will talk to you and even come out to your home and make a plan for you. I know more crisis centers have beds and if they don't, they can help you find one for you. I hope someone reads this and can maybe think twice before taking their life!!
