I used to give my dogs pumpkin seed powder, hawthorn berry and black walnut tincture and neither ever got heartworms and i live in Florida. Also cooked for them fresh food and gave them other natural supplements for health.
Thanks. I'm in Houston Texas and none of my dogs have tested positive, but we picked up a foxhound running loose in Arkansas and, found out that he just lived outside in a pen before that. He tested positive. Seems to be in stage one, based on his cough, but who knows if he's in stage 2. I use black walnut and artemisia combination for my large pit/lab mix. He takes 2 walnut pills a day and 1 artemisia pill a day. He gets a break from it every two days. Ive noticed a difference from him being on it. It’s temporary until i can afford the prevention
@@VeterinarySecrets I am very concerned about my dog getting the injections for HW. I am planning to start the black walnut and Artemisia combination. What are your thoughts on these? I couldn’t find any of your videos with information on these supplements. Thank for all you do, Dr. Jones. Your videos helped me so much with my previous dog after she was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and liver disease. Almost ALL of her labs came back to normal levels and she lived to be 16.
So in the U.S. The National Heartworm Society is sponsored by all the pharmaceutical companies that make heartworm preventatives! Not surprising they recommend year-round treatment everywhere.
I live in Oregon where heartworm is pretty much non existent. I have a chihuahua and when we visit the vet "which isn't often " the vet tries his hardest to get my dog on prevention heartworm chews. I'm a pretty savvy dog owner and having Dr Jones reconfirm my thoughts about this medicine, feels good! Thank you Dr Jones for giving it to us straight eveytime. Appreciate you! 😘🙏
What part? I live in Southern Oregon. We have lots of mosquitoes here but a river in a gully across road. This summer was really bad. I've seen them in winter too. Lots of pockets of water around in fields and pastures.
My Vet in N.E. Ohio pushed me to have my dog injected with Pro Heart 12 and it killed my perfectly healthy beloved dog. This is criminal and unacceptable that a Pharma med killed my beautiful dog that was my best friend. This will not go unpunished.
Sure it is criminal in Europe have banned those heart worm prevention meds because they are toxic usually vets are getting commission from drug companies to push their drugs and they care less about the dogs
I really like this guy, very honest and transparent. I’m sure he agrees that every dog should not be neutered also. I love how he’s not all for vaccines.
I just refused preventive meds for my 3 month GSD. I don’t give it to any of my dogs. I have to get rabies to license my dogs and I get the Lyme vaccine , but that’s it. I feel all these chemicals in their system isn’t good for them. If it kills worms and you give it year round what is it doing to the dog. I had my heeler to the vet and they asked me if I wanted preventative and I said no. They asked if I wanted her tested for heart worm and I said yes. She was negative and they seemed surprised since I am such a bad pet parent that doesn’t give her preventative. I prefer Dr. Jones’ holistic sprays. Has served me well so far. 😉
Omg I live in Louisiana. We have adipted two heartworm positive pitties that went through very expensive treatment. I will start adding these to their food for prevention. TYSM for this Doctor Jones! And to all the very kind contributors in the comments that say it works ❤
Absolutely truth here!!! I fell for all the things before but now I’m aware! My family member vaccinated her dog and a couple days later her dogs back legs didn’t work and it needed wheelchair legs for the rest of its life!
Thank you! I live in SW Virginia. There are some mosquitoe outbreaks during the summer months. I have still Kept my Dog off of any possibly toxic preventative. I use several natural oils, such as Eucalyptus, lavender and others. I also use those repellent plants in my garden, where my dog spends his time. He is a 16 year old Berny mix. His breed has a usual lifespan of 8-10 years. Yes...Great food and minimal vaccines, have made a huge difference!
Good morning Karen. I hope all is well with you and yours. I have young German Shorthaired Pointer that a friend gave me because the people that were feeding her were going to take her to the pound. She was evidently a stray. She has been abused by someone, it's easy to tell because she's really skiddish and weary of people, especially men. Her last tail has about 4 knots at the end, like it's been broken that many times. She's a beautiful, loving puppy about 7 or 8 months old I think. If it's not to much trouble, would you please send me a list of the oils you use, and the method of administration, and whatever else that you use for your dog? Please. I live in West Ga, between Atlanta and Alabama, not far from 2 lakes, so I'm in a high risk area. Me and Sadie Mae will surely appreciate it. God bless and keep you and yours always. In His Love, Tex & Sadie Mae
@@texherrell1821 Hi, I understand it's a bit late for an answer, but I feel someone has to do it. You can go to dr. Jones' previous videos and he shows everything you need to do for your baby. Take care all of you.
Thanks, Dr. Jones! Some of your commenters have mentioned using ivermectin 1% cattle solution for prevention. It would be fantastic if you could do a video dedicated to this practice to discuss dosage, delivery, mixing a solution, and cost savings, along with any side effects or risks. A tutorial with assurances that ivermectin is the same active ingredient as many of the OTC or script brands would help, too. In my experience, the cost savings this method provides can make the difference between the dog getting year round treatment vs only a few months or none at all, especially in multidog households, and especially during trying economical times. Thanks for being a voice for the animals and for a great video aeries!
@@Anisky123 Ivermectin is generally considered safe, and is the main ingredient in HeartGard and other dewormers. Collie breeds with the MDR-1 gene are contraindicated for ivermectin use, tho percentage affected is low. We use ivermectin in pups as young as 4 weeks. However, there can be side effects, typically mild stomach upset or inappetitiveness, that can range from mild to severe, as is true for any medication or preventative. Consult your vet and peer reviewed online resources for more information.
That would be great! I have two large dogs and it is costing us around $85 per month for the heart-guard, nex guard combo.. I have a tube of Ivermectin and that was $20... I would rather use that. We used it when we got "the flu" and were better than we were before we even got it within 2 days so I know it does something.. I don't like giving my dogs all these pharmaceuticals and all the shots the vets practically demand.. In fact they threaten not to see them if they don't get this huge laundry list of shots... ughh... I just want my fur babies to be healthy..
@@ThumbsUpKitty So, guestimating 0.02 ml per dog, a $30, 50 ml bottle of ivermectin 1% cattle solution would provide 125 months of treatment for both at a cost of about $0.12/dog.
Our vet in Wisconsin had my husband sign a form that he was rejecting the heartworm treatment for our dogs. I got angry at the strong-arm tactic and fear she was trying to instill in us. I have lived in this area most of my life, known tons of dogs and their people , and only heard of one dog getting heartworm. This dog had a good life and travelled often with his human....Thank you so much for all your information Dr. Jones.
We have a 22 month old Border Collie. My vet, bless her heart, does holistic medicine as well as standard. This pup has had the absolute minimum in vaxs. The cocktails being injected into our pets is absolutely crazy. She has an ultrasonic 'Soundshield' on her collar for ticks, fleas. I use a diy mosquito repellant that has cedar, citronella, eucalyptus, rosemary, lavender, lemon, and geranium EO's. It works. Not giving her any neurotoxins by way of preventative meds. She eats what we eat like the healthy animals before commercial pet foods were invented. She is supplemented occasionally with a very high grade kibble. So far so good.
My holistic vet only pushes heartguard during mosquito season. She doesn't push any other medications but suggest probiotics for homemade raw food fed dogs.
My bloodhound-great Dane 2.5 year old rescue "puppy" ( from LOUISIANA) went through the Slow-kill " treatment and still tested positive. Now he has started the injection protocol, which is frightening to me! Yes, I am concerned for my wallet, but my ability to keep him calm is a greater concern! Thank you for giving me more hope that his condition is not as critical. He doesn't even have a cough. I will minimize his activities as a precaution, but at least I don't feel that he can't jump on our bed or climb the stairs of this old farmhouse here in PA. My other 2senior dogs have never been on HW meds but get tested annually. Huge load off my mind!! Thank you and God bless!!! ❤️🥰
Weill my girl is coughing up blood, and my research shows that the interceptor plus and the adult heartworm medicine will kill dogs, there's an equal chance that their arteries can clogged up from the dead worms and that can kill them, so I think it is crucial that you feed your dog cayenne pepper which boost the blood flow drastically, you're damned if you do you're damned if you don't, people can debate all they like about preventative, but I want to know how to deal with a footlong heartworms and my dog coughing up blood, so since there is actually no good natural advice on killing adult heartworms you have made the best choice, it is possible to kill the babies in eggs with natural preventative, but that is not going to stop the ongoing heart disease and lung disease I wish you the best
I haven't used hw preventative on my dogs for over 30 years. I follow the temperature chart for the hw cycle. I randomly test my guys to be safe if the weather is warm for very long periods of time.
Very interesting when my dog's reached adult ages I used natural sprays and I paid attention to when the misquotes were bad. Like in the fall in the morning and evening. I'd make sure that they where sprayed well and put essential oils rubbed on there collars. I used to feed they well and put 2 shot glasses of colloidal silver in there water at all times. I stopped the over the counter preventive medication I felt that it was overwhelming there bodies. I didn't think about that area I lived in like you showed in the map graph. Thanks again. I all ways learn so much from you
Bravo... Same here! My Berny mix is 16! I've kept him away from all of the toxic VET recommended preventative. He gets heart worm tested annually, with his regular checkup. All is well!
Ok found the link. The Heart Worm talk was great. Lots of information in a understandable way. Thank you for helping us do the best we can by our kids.
I live in Oregon and was advised by my vet who I really like to start a preventative for heartworm. I declined because of where we live and because my pup almost died after an allergic reaction to their plan treatment for giardia. I was very bummed to leave feeling as if I am the one who is not taking his health seriously. BUT I follow Dr Jones because I feel he lets me know when conventional treatment IS needed v the standards we have at most clinics.
Such a hard subject. I travel full-time so my circumstances are always changing. We tried to put our mastiff on heartworm medication but it made him so sick. Salivating, diarrhea, vomiting, for 2 days immediately following heartworm medication. We tried on a second attempt, vet even changing brand, but it made him terribly sick again. We try to keep his immune system up and feed him both raw & kibble. We also have him checked for heartworm once a yr. We also spray him with a good natural repellent. Pray he never gets heartworm.
I have an integrative vet and he says to give Heartgard because I live in North Texas where Heartworm is prevalent. He said Heartgard only stays in the system for a day or two and that it’s better than getting Heartworms and having to treat them with chemo. Some of that seems a little hyperbolic but I do technically live in a higher risk area because the Heartworm map has my area in a darker orange/red meaning there are a number of cases nearby. I would love to not give anything but I wonder if i should keep giving it year round or every 45 days or every 3 months like some people say. It’s so hard to know what is “necessary” and what is actually the most balanced approach to minimize chemicals and offer the right amount of protection. If we have a mild winter then it isn’t uncommon to see bugs including a few mosquitoes even in the typically colder months. It’s fairly easy to just stop vaccinations and flea/tick prevention but Heartworm seems to be the most confusing and the most concerning
I feel exactly the same ! Hate to put the chemicals into their little cute body :-( But I live in Houston, guess I have to give my 🐶 Hearthard more often after I watched this video. Seems like he is saying it’s necessary for our area. I stopped giving my 🐶 flea/tick/heartworm prevention from last Christmas. It’s so hard to make these decisions. :-(
Same! I live in north Dallas. We need to take heart worm medicine. My vet explained it’s the Texas ! 😢No joke! Me myself almost died because of West Nile 8 years ago!
I use ivermectin. I have been using it on my dogs for over 25yrs. I live in fl where the mosquitos are year round and not 1 of my dogs ever got heartworms.
Here in Oregon heartworm incidence is low. My dogs were on ivermectin every other month from April through October with annual testing. My vet has seen less than a handful of cases during her years of practice and said all but one were easily treated, so we still test annually but no more treatment. I don't travel to areas prone to mosquitos during the times when they're rampant and don't keep standing water around for breeding.
I would purchase Mosquito dunks, then place pales of water in 4 corners of my yard with a chicken wire cover to prevent other wild life from drinking the water. Place the 1 dunk in each pale. This should prevent the eggs from hatching. This not only helps your 4 legged friends but your family and friends.
I live in the south in the U.S. I personally use ivermectin once a month on my dogs. $30 for a bottle. I use 1/10th of a cc for every 10 lbs of body weight.
@@Catherine-wt3st as a breeder, it's a must have. 1 $30 bottle from Revival lasts me approximately 9 months. (I have Rottweilers) it would last a lot longer if used on smaller dogs.
Florida here, and I've advocated use of the ivermectin cattle solution for years, thanks for helping tell others. This reduces the cost of treatment from $5-15 to mere pennies per treatment. You can also mix the ivermectin with glycerin (available on internet, at Walmart or pharmacies) to create a dilute solution that's easier to dose, though I find using an insulin needle (walmart or pharmacy, usually behind counter) works right out of the bottle. I mix with food vs injecting.
I got some coupons in the mail 📬 for heartworm prevention meds, and, of course, I started worrying about whether or not I should get it for my dog. Based on that US map you showed us, I'll skip it! Thanks!
My dogs never had heart worms until a year ago. Now my little guy has a trace of heart worm. We also just adopted a dog with significant evidence of babies according to the doctor. We’re really concerned. We’ve had her on artemisia (wormwood), black walnut and clove. We’ve also been adding little coconut oil to her food. We are on the treatment plan 2 weeks on 1 week off and then back on for 2 weeks to finish out the cycle. The problem is I’m not sure when I should restart her after completing this first cycle.
Hey Gilmour, I hope all is well with you and yours. I have a German Shorthaired Pointer about 7 months old and I live in West Ga. Can you please send me the regimen you use and the names of the brands that you use if it's not too much trouble. Thx ,& God bless
Can I give my dog a preventative treatment if I haven't had him checked for HW yet. I want to get him started just in case but I'm afraid I might make it worse if he has them. Tha KS in advance
Where I live in Canada ? It's less than 1/2 % chance of getting heartworms - yet my (former) vet pushed heartworm meds EVERY year, then, of course the 'heart worm test' each spring in case the tablets didn't work.....LOL WOW, what a nice money maker for him ( almost as good, and right up there, with 'yearly vaccines' ) .No wonder he owned both a big house, AND a nice cottage, in upstate New York....... he's retired now. Lucky him.... Glad I could help him pay for all that, over the years, with my four doggie patients.... .....NOT.....!!! :(
I live in central texas and one of my dogs did get heart worms. She was older- about 11 years and we used the hwf until she tested negative for heart worms. It totally worked and she did great on it. We could see her feeling better every week. You do have to be really consistent. I made small containers with tuna and the meds to allow her to take it. (She refused taking the drops) she did not need to be cooped up or anything- just lived life normal- walks and everything ❤ highly recommend
Dr. Jones, you mentioned in a previous video about giving heartworm prevention every 2 to 3 months, to kill any possible heartworms in the pet’s body because they are still in the larvae stage, and haven’t traveled to the heart yet, and haven’t turned into actual heartworms at around 4 months after getting into the pet’s body. I’ve been doing what you talked about with my dogs, since I watched your previous video talking about it. It’s easier on the pet and also kills the larvae before they travel to the heart and begin the damage. Do you still also agree with what you said in your previous video about this?
Also following and waiting for reply. I've been told if your dog tests positive for heartworm, the preventative can harm even cause death. Why they have to be tested before being put on preventative. Don't know if true or big pharma. I live in an area that supposedly doesn't have bad heartworm, but we have a mosquito problem even in colder weather.
I had a vet the other day trying to use the 'fear strategy" to get my pup on heartworm prevention. She looked at me with a masked covered face, blue colored hair and terror in her eyes that he will be given Arsenic if he gets heartworm. She said arsenic three times in a row to try to get her point across. I wasn't fazed because if the cure is arsenic then the preventative meds are arsenic too. I don't trust vets or medical people. Brainwashed indoctrinated money making big business. Very easy money in their pockets to push all these preventatives and vaccines. I'm sure kick backs too from drug companies. No one knows the long term effects on the animals such as cancers, autoimmune diseases and shortened lives.
@@VeterinarySecrets Thank you!!!! I’m a first time puppy momma & I’m stunned how horrible the food & medicine/vaccines are for pets! You’re helping save so many animals from a terrible fate & helping both of us live our happiest & healthiest lives 🥰

I feed a raw diet. I also give bug off garlic granules during the hot months of the year. There’s not much heartworm at all where I live. If I lived somewhere where there was a lot of heartworm, I would be giving ivermectin monthly.
Dr. Jones, I live in Southern Oregon. It's very wet here. I have a river across the street in a gully from me. Lots of pockets of water too in winter, spring in pastures and fields. This summer I was eaten up by mosquitos. I see mosquitoes even in the winter and spring. We are getting warmer, not as cold in winter. My dog is on Tri-Heart Plus. She's 11.6 years old, 49#'s. You mentioned in a video about using Milk Thistle and/or dandelion after using meds or vaccines. I can't find the video. I have milk thistle tea. Thank you.
I'm looking for an answer to that also and was wondering what you have found out? Vet recommends Simparica Trio but I hear horror stories about it so I want a safer option. I'm in south Louisiana.
I use a low dose bovine ivermectin injectable that i give orally to my dogs only during mosquito season. My dogs are clean and this also cleans up heartworm positive rescues- low doses over many months. Just ask your vet. They can tell you your dogs dose. Florida resident. Local feed stores sell this product.
We're in Houston, Texas and rescued a 43 pound Foxhound in Arkansas. (He was about 35 pounds when we got him.) He tested positive for heartworms. Do you just follow dosage instructions on the tube? Injectable?
I adopted my bulldog mix from the SPCA in San Diego. But she was originally from Florida and had been sent from there to San Diego when a hurricane hit Florida . They told me she had heart worm and was still recovering and had to be on preventable medication they never specified for how long and my vet always says to keep her on it. She’s been taking a heart worm injectable preventable for a few years. I adopted her at the age of 4 and she’s now 8 1/2. Should I always keep her on the preventable? Love your videos! Thank you for being honest and fair for saying you'd do conventional treatment. I just adopted a shelter dog who they said is positive for heartworms. They put him on the "slow kill method" instead of the conventional treatment. What is your opinion on the slow kill method? If my dog has already had one treatment, will it hurt him to get a heartworm test to double check?
Indeed the chart in the vet’s office said my area the preventative was necessary. But I did some research and we don’t have mosquitoes. I’m in the desert. I might see 2 mosquitoes all year. So....
Thank you so much! I decided not to do heart worm prevention with my dogs this year. We live in Maine so it's not a huge problem here. My dogs are also never outside by themselves at all. They are house dogs. They want to be with their people. On the occasion the mosquitoes are bothering us we just use a natural bug repellant or come inside. It is nice to hear that I am doing the right thing, because I'm not going to hear it from a practicing vet .
An injection dose of melarsomine contains .75mg of arsenic. Sardines arsenic levels range between 0.256 -1.70mg in an 84 g portion. If arsenic kills heartworm, would sardines not be a good form of heartworm prevention?
Hi Dr. Jones First of all, thank you truly for the videos you upload to make the world a better place for dogs. I'm an owner of two dogs looking for a natural heart worm preventative. I live near Washington, D.C. where it seems the reported heartworm cases annually per clinic is 6-25 according to the American Heartworm Society. I just found the product HWF for dogs by AmberNaturalz and started having questions about the effectiveness and usage. It hasn't been easy finding opinions or feedbacks on the product online. Do you have any general advice on what kinds of products to use and how/when to use them?
Just received a notice from our vet for our dachshunds’ yearly distemper vaccine. As they are now 10& 11 years old & have had it on/off--not sure about about it now. 🤔

We lost 2 furbabies 2 days a part that were going through heartworm treatment. The veterinarian was a freaking quack! If I knew then what I know now, we would have never walked through the doors to that awful place.

To Michelle and your family... I'm so sorry you had this experience with losing your precious fur babies! I know that was heartbreaking for you as they are part of our family and when we lose them we grieve! I have done a lot of Medical research and we are definitely overmedicating our animals! All those poisonous chemicals taken internally for flea tick, Lyme disease Etc afflict the animals immune system and eventually they succumb to the poisonous toxins in their blood! I use organic, non-toxic sprays when we go outside and I also am a firm believer in good nutrition! I make homemade dog food for Layla who is a 13 year old mixed Terrier and she is very healthy and strong in body! She had blood work done recently and our vet was amazed on the excellent report on the blood pathologies! I am very grateful that she is in good health and pray that I will have her for many good years to come! In conclusion, I am very sorry for your loss as I know it is very painful and and takes time to overcome! My heart and prayers are with you!

I'm in the Upstate of South Carolina. My 2 year old rescue Blue Heeler boy just recently tested positive for heartworms. He was negative when I adopted him a year ago. He has been taking Interceptor Plus monthly for the past 12 months. No one told me I should have had him retested for heartworms at six months. My vet thinks he had heartworms when I adopted him, but they were not old enough to show up on the test.
@@chrisw1353have gotten any info on this method ? Have you started !?? I’m wanting to do this too but having trouble finding guidance dosing etc
Which vaccines do you allow, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you Dr. Jones! You always address issues so many of us have trouble understanding. God Bless you and your wonderful family.
Which brand of colloidal silver? Thanks
Good to know. We live in Colorado. And last 2 years a problem with heart worm in our area.
What natural dog flea repellant do you use? We live near the US Gulf coast.
HELLO, I'm living in Germany with my Chihuahua. Thanks for all your Information's 👍MANY GREETINGS
@@Topol60 Oh My Gosh, sorry to hear that ! That’s scary! I got mosquito bites now everyday in this bloody summer in Houston. 😓😓😓
I use ivermectin. I have been using it on my dogs for over 25yrs. I live in fl where the mosquitos are year round and not 1 of my dogs ever got heartworms.
Would you mention your treatment how much, how often?
I'm curious as well, what exactly do you do? You mention ivermectin but how much of it etc?
Ivermectin is dosed based on weight. An accurate weight.
Same here I found a chart online and my girl has never tested positive
I’m taking metforim for stooling issues . I have good nutrition and lifestyle .
You are so helpful and I do a lot of natural things to with my dog thank you so very much❤️❤️
Can someone please send me the video where he shows how to make the syrup 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@canidconsulting5118 yes, you're absolutely right. I withdraw it from the bottle as well and squirt it onto a piece of bread.

@@RetireYoungAndCheap And yes, I still get one of my dogs tested yearly as a precaution. Never had a positive test result using this method.

Wormwood and black walnut (and some other things) got rid of tapeworm in my dog, but not the heartworm. Using Ivermectin long term treatment now.
I got some coupons in the mail 📬 for heartworm prevention meds, and, of course, I started worrying about whether or not I should get it for my dog. Based on that US map you showed us, I'll skip it! Thanks!

Dr. Andrew Jones.

Where I live in Canada ? It's less than 1/2 % chance of getting heartworms - yet my (former) vet pushed heartworm meds EVERY year, then, of course the 'heart worm test' each spring in case the tablets didn't work.....LOL
WOW, what a nice money maker for him ( almost as good, and right up there, with 'yearly vaccines' ) .No wonder he owned both a big house, AND a nice cottage, in upstate New York....... he's retired now. Lucky him....
Glad I could help him pay for all that, over the years, with my four doggie patients.... .....NOT.....!!! :(

Has anyone used Amber Naturalz HWF? Also, this was good info but I didn't come away with anything clear for a preventive. Did I miss it?
I live in central texas and one of my dogs did get heart worms. She was older- about 11 years and we used the hwf until she tested negative for heart worms. It totally worked and she did great on it. We could see her feeling better every week. You do have to be really consistent. I made small containers with tuna and the meds to allow her to take it. (She refused taking the drops) she did not need to be cooped up or anything- just lived life normal- walks and everything ❤ highly recommend
@@silandclaude I'm in Illinois and just got a positive heart worm result. I bought this to try!

I love your channel and especially this video without the background clatter. I can't here you and background noises at the same time.
Following 🤗
Hope I can find that video. I also avoid giving too many conventional drugs to our dogs and prefer natural supplements

The treatment is very harsh..we would do full work ups first..depending on the outcome he might split the doses...when I lived upstate NY..my dogs were on 6 mos..now I'm in SC where if you dont havecthe dog on prevention..its going to get heartworm...I hate giving my dogs those chemicals...but
To Michelle and your family...
Bottom line here is we are over medicating our animals! Dr Jones will be the first to agree

Does the medicine really prevent heart worm? Ive read many dogs even on heartworm meds get heartworm
I am from the lower ny area and I never gave my dogs the Prevention for heart worms
I always tried to keep their immune system up.
I was lucky they never got the heart worms. I have since moved to the northern part of Fl the world capital of any bugs. My dogs never had the prevention while up north
But since we have been down here, the bug capital of the world i put them on it . And I cringe each month I give it to them .. they are older now 11 and 8 as I they did not have it for a long time. I only give give the rabies shot because it is required by law at down here they take no prisoners
So far so good

I'm in the Upstate of South Carolina. My 2 year old rescue Blue Heeler boy just recently tested positive for heartworms.
He was negative when I adopted him a year ago. He has been taking Interceptor Plus monthly for the past 12 months. No one told me I should have had him retested for heartworms at six months.
My vet thinks he had heartworms when I adopted him, but they were not old enough to show up on the test.
It's so good to hear you say you'd conventionally treat the heartworms because that is what I'm going to do.
He's presently taking Doxycycline, and will receive his first injection June 1st followed by injections 2 and 3 in early July.
I'm very worried for him. I'm going to do my best to keep him calm during the recovery period.
How is your dog doing now? I’m in SC also and my dog recently tested positive, but he was negative after I adopted him last year. Sounds like a similar scenario to yours. I’m very worried about the conventional treatment. Please let me know how your Blue Heeler did. Thank you.
@@chrisw1353 My boy is HW- now. He did very well with the conventional 3 shot treatment.
DR Jones I have a 8yr.old small mix dog. I dont want to fill his body up with all these meds last time I took him in [last May] my Vet gave him 5 shots at one time. I think thats to much. What shots do you think he really needs? I live in NY in the country where their are wild animals fox bear coyotes etc, I know he needs rabies but what other shots will he need.
Tula's so cute❤
Thanks!❤️
