- In the north of the Kenyan coast in the Kiwayu island, the Bajun people have practiced an extraordinary technique for centuries: remora fishing.
The remora, a fish whose head contains a small suction cup, attaches itself to turtles, rays and sharks for nourishment. Legend has it that the remora sucks its victims’ blood to tire them out, hence the nickname, “vampire fish”. Alphan and Aruni are Bajun fishermen. During the first days of Ramadan, they get ready to sail out to sea in their traditional boats. The only way they can survive is to fish along the coast, using the vampire fish, will they succeed?
Documentary: “Master of the spirits - The vampire fish”
Direction: Jean Queyrat
Production: ZED & La Cinquième for RAI 3 & Voyage

I don't know why? But I love documentaries so much! There's so much idea, that they can give or share.
In any types of beliefs and religions.💚💚 Love this sight
It's because they take your mind away from this modern chaotic world. Look how natural, peaceful and simple other people live their lives. No Instagram, no materialism
@@jon_s yeah! that's what I thought . Simple living and a peaceful place. Can help you away in anxiety and depression.🤣🤣
Like I do😇👌

Me too my dear. Documentaries give a detailed knowledge.
That’s crazy how they seem to have the bare minimum, but seem happier than a millionaire. We take things for granted way too much. Cool story!✌🏽
So you are millionaire...
When you say we take things for granted, it seem to suggest these people aspire to have your superficial superior comforts that only money can buy. Not at all. Paper money is a man made construct that has made slaves and or villains out of men.
The Chinese fishing boats HAVEN'T depleted their areas YET....

I wish i could live there.i live in switzerland, and being poor around rich people sucks big time...
How nostalgic it is to look at these beautiful pictures.!!! In the late 1986 I had the privilege to visit the Bajuni islands on the Somali side and spend an unforgettable day with Jibril the 'nakooda' of Koyama together with the wonderful Bajun people who will remain forever in the deepest of my heart. They were able to use an Interesting technics to catch sea crayfish. Some iron wire shaped like a couple of tennis rackets with a hose of net stitched along the round end of both the rackets. This tool was presented in front of the sea crayfish to entangle him when frightened with a spear inserted in the lair was trying to escape.
Beautiful pictures to visit island very unforgettable really
Times have really changed

The bajun are still here and thriving with smartphones and AKs... some are professional pyrates.
It seems strange to me, I knew that pirates had bases in Puntland in the north, given the frequency of trade routes not too far from the coast, not under the Equator and in Kenya. Unfortunately Somalia is doomed by its very important strategic location in the Horn of Africa and that wonderful land will never find peace.
That’s crazy, imagine just watching this, we get that aww. just watching this skill but imagine what other skills we haven’t seen or lost through the ages,
It's all about things which our ancestors gave us, it is not in the terms of material but the knowledge , which help humans to survive from infinite years and this life can't be stopped, until we harm our mother nature, respect every creature in this universe, like people of pumba respect and gave a special place in their life to vampire fish, awesome marine life on punmba island.
Thanks slice for showing our home coast.
So glad I found this channel, well documented and very professional. Thank you, I learned new things today.

I’m hooked! Can’t stop watching these documentaries. Glad to have found this channel! Amazing work!
Its amazing to see how agile and athletic these people and how deep is their knowledge about the sea . The old captain is so hard working and is a treasure of knowledge. So beautiful and independent people. Pray they live happily and free.
They will if Europeans leave them alone, they're always trying to throw the bible at people and their way of life. They have destroyed so many cultures. They have robbed and stole everything that's not nailed down. Hopefully they leave these people alone.
I love Slice's documentaries. 😍
Our World is so rich and amazing 😍 wonderful filming, great people, the narration voice is calming

I love this channel. In fact I don't skip adverts when watching to make sure you generate as much revenue as possible
Actually kinda heartwarming to hear the respect some humans have of the nature around them. Having a fish placed on the peddle stool of becoming a family member just shows the respect they had for these fish.
Yes, agreed. This form of affection for nature and family is absent from a profit driven capitalistic society.
I hate to be that guy, but “Pedestal”

this style fishing is described by the Norwegien antropologist Georg Dahl. It was a book about the Arowac indians in the Carrbiean...great doc

Amazing fishermen, awesome fishing skills👍
Great documentary. Really enjoyed it
This is a little like fishing using cormorants from Japan and China. Probably not very efficient when compared to netting or spear fishing, but still a very interesting technique.
Indonesia is rich in fish populations and diversity. You should visit, dive, and fish there.
Simple life no worries belief in a greater being
Very good i love this kind of documentary. This is the kind of program to be shown.
BAAJUN tribe.....!...Amazingly SEA FELLAs...!
Interesting. Seems like alot of work though when you can go out at night and chum up the sharks and rays. They don't even have oar locks just a rope.
sustainable fishing technique. great!
Wonderful, Thank You for sharing ❣🕊🔥
ENJOYED YOUR DOC IMMENSELY
It is a great thing to go back to the old ways sometimes. Experiencing the past thru ur own eyes. How ppl lived long ago. 👍😆
Not a single mention of anyone abusing the environment. Just fishing to satisfy need. Not greed. Well done.
Awesome 👍 video 📸.... Thank you ☺️... 10/10 👍 YUP.... Be safe everyone 😃....
EXCELLENT DOC...WELL DONE GUYS.
❤️SLICE❤️ superb documentary 👏👏 greetings from India
That is an incredible video. Thank you very much. I have seen the rows of fishing cormorants on the stern of the thai boats waiting their turn to catch their fish and bring it back to tbe boat, sometimes two birds fetching a heavy fish. The Ramoro is very different. To hold a large Ray or shark is quite a feat. I wonder do they know exactly what they are doing. In our part of the world we have a similar fish called a Lamprey but their eel shaped bodies are not toned and powerful like tbe ramoro
Our Lamprey are also an endangered species with certain rivers dedicated to their survival...
One of the best channel
Africa is truly diverse.
Brilliant documentary
Simplicity is the only. Key to preserve the nature making it more abundant that innocent people are not doing any forms of abuses against the nature
The most pleasant and fruitful thing is that man is the master of thought.

Amazing. Thank you for this clip. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu
I wish to go and stay with them..may allah rain the barakha for that village.. Ameen
I thoroughly enjoy your documentaries! Seems like the remoras are having a harder time swimming due to the line attached to their tails.

I see people suggesting quicker fishing methods but this is a more sustainable way of fishing. They just want for their consumption and that method has served them through their ancestors.
