I’m not a ballet dancer, but some exercises that may help with leg strength are squats, but using your quads rather than glutes, lunges (not the stretch version, the one with a bent back knee), adductor/abductor lifts, toe lifts (basically going on and off relevé, it’s more affective one foot at a time), and half brush using your legs instead of your glutes. I hope this helps.
re: "Almost parallel" hips - Yes I agree 100%. I think of it as "stacking" the hips. It allows you to get on your balance on your supporting leg by allowing you to shift your weight. It is a very slight press in and up of the working hip and Not a lift . It's like pulling your hips closer to each other. You can very definitely notice this in tendu arabesque when you do this because if you employ this same almost parallel, stacking technique you will easily be able to lift your working foot and leg off the floor. If you have your hips perfectly parallel you will have a hard time doing this. You can also use this for passe,/retire position as well ( gasps from the audience!!) but you will notice you will get onto your supporting leg easier. If done correctly you won't see much of a difference but you Will feel it.
Maria, you are such a goddess. I literally gasped when you balanced on demi-pointe at 9:46 I have a question: do you have any tips for flexibility in "getting your knee up"? I really try to do this in developpe, but it feels like my hip flexors get *stuck* Thank you! 🥰
don’t use your top thigh. a lot of dancers use it because it’s “easier” but you don’t want to build up the muscle on the front because you want to create a line. use the back, or bottom, thigh
@@lactosetheintolerant6007 i just can’t figure out how to engage those muscles. like as soon as i start raising my leg up, the front muscle engages instantly and i don’t know how to turn it off kinda
Maria in my ballet lesson yesterday my teacher was telling me how I really needed to work on getting my extension above 90 degrees (at the moment it is comfortably at 90 and stretched 95/100). I am really struggling but I think this will really help! I love you so much xx
YAAAAY! This is the one I've been waiting for!!! Who else out there wants an extension as fantastic as Maria's?! ME TOO!! Thank you posting this, Maria.
Wanna see if you can make a video about you & Sofya how to prepare your own Pointe Shoes 💕 Also hoping to seeing you can make other variations class videos 💞 you are an elegant ballerina and a great teacher 🥰
Whoa! These are pretty familiar to me, but actually seeing an example of what my coach wants me (and your amazing hyperextensions) to do is really helpful+inspiring. Thank you so much!
I had and i still have dancer hip syndrome on my left side for years, because I started ballet at the age of 16, but i was overstrechted due to flexibility training in the past without strengthening. Extensions on the left side to the front are so hard for me to keep balance and I realised i have the turnout range, but not the strength in the buttocks to keep it from cramping in my hipsockets. I can't go higher than 90° on the left side, but on the right side I have no probles to go above 130-140° Thanks for the Vidoe Maria!
what a beautiful attitude this young dancer has, there is No snobbishness with you i have only discovered you Maria . I've become fan of yours . will be following you . your English is excellent.
Hi Maria-- I have been a ballet teacher for 35 years and that final tip about the standing leg is exactly what I focus on for my students! So often neglected as it is natural to focus on the "gesture leg" but really our working leg is the standing leg. Without it, we cannot support the extension well at all and yes, I agree-- the standing leg must be beautiful too. Also if you always keep the standing leg extended upward to the hips and down through the floor, your knees will not sway or unintentionally be bent. Then both lines will be beautiful and secure. Thanks and XOXO, Sarah
i dont know ballet very well i only know I LOVE ballet watched many thru the years, but wow you are pretty incredible u must be up there with the other famous dancers.💖
Thank you SOOOOO much Maria for all your advice and taking the time to do these videos. Some great tips. Yes please....can you do a video on developpe derrière. . 😘❤️
Fantastic video as always Maria! An idea for a future tips video could be about how to have correct and beautiful posture (flat back, shoulders, neck,...) I struggle with that a lot. Lots of love!
I love these videos, they really are very helpful. Thank you very much Masha😊 You are great, always giving the best part of you. I would also love for you to make some videos of “5 tips on round jambe en’lair” or “5 tips on jetté” Thanks 🙏🏻 💜💜💜💜💜💜#army
Thank you for the inspirational videos! It would be great to see a "What I eat in a day" video. I'm a ballet dancer myself and I would love to know how you stay lean during quarantine.
Hi Maria! Thank you so much for this video. I’m so grateful to receive amazing tips from such a talented ballerina. I also have some video requests! It would be amazing if you can teach us tips on pirouettes, grand pas de chats, and exercises for higher releves/ strong feet!!!
i'd try Kathryn Morgans turnout exercise video, it focuses on getting the strength to hold you turnout because even if you are super flexible, you still need to have the strength to hold your turnout
You’re not being human... YOU’RE BEING A TRUE DIAMOND!!! I LOVE U, MARIA (btw my name’s Maria as well, but I’m actually brazilian/italian and not russian ahahah ♥️)

In develop to the front, you said, "As soon as I do this..." I could definitely see the difference when you changed but am not sure what you changed. Can you explain what "this" was that you did to make the develop to the front more beautiful? Thanks!
Hello dear Maria!, I'm 50 years old. I practised classical dance from the age of seven until I was about 14. Then as an adult I resumed, then stopped, then resumed.... Eres la bailarina más joven y talentosa que he conocido, un abrazo gigante. 🌷❤️

Great tips
Can you please do exercises for feet and turnout? I would love to see those videos 🥰❤️
You're adorable and wonderful dancer.
Thank you so much!!! It helps a lot! ❤️❤️
Could you do a video on exercices for développe? Or could you do a video and show all your leotards?
thank you! needed this so much 😂
Hi, thanks you for your videos. I am struggling with turnout and I don't know how to feel the hips more free and flexible. 😢
Do you have tips in how to improve turnout in your standing leg? My turnout is so terrible. 😭😭
Same problem! Can do it on the floor (‘frog’ position as they call it in russian), but cannot hold it turnt out for life during barre exercises
i'd try Kathryn Morgans turnout exercise video, it focuses on getting the strength to hold you turnout because even if you are super flexible, you still need to have the strength to hold your turnout
Yes to the dev to the back next :)!
These video really help me in class. I was wondering if you could do a upper back / hip opening video to strengthen
You’re not being human...
