@@MCsCreations Not really, you only get a slice, if you want to map a cave you want something like Emesent's Hovermap system.

I’ve been lucky enough to mess around with a Velodyne LiDAR VLP-16 Puck. Those things are awesome.
I have 8 of those at work and play with or fly them on the daily. Nice units, we have a Puck Lite on the way I am excited about, same thing but lighter.
Cans either of you suggest an affordable intertial motion sensor?
Can you make a tutorial on how to get this thing functioning? I just want to see a 3d map or visual representation of some sort. There is literally ZERO instructional material for this machine on the internet.
The Skydio R1 drone is using cams and some machine learning to map its surroundings.
Hope they can reduce size and weight some more so they could be used on, say a7" drone. You know they can if they have gotten this far already.

Hi! I am using RP LIDAR A1M8 for a project. Is it possible to obtain the intensity of the reflected pulse of the LASER from the LIDAR?
So spinning it slowly would give me an image like the second image in the beginning? And rotate it with a second motor will make it 3d, if I put it vertically would it give me imegs like the lidar on drones for 2d 3d mapping? And yes I'm trying to put this on a drone for mapping, any info you can give will point me to the right direction thanks.

I thought about building a drone with 4 of these sensors on 4 of the arms of the hexacopter/octocopter for some insane tracking and obstacle avoidance, the 4 other arms in thinking of using a radar

WTH was the software you were showing? I bought the A1M8, and the stupid quickstart guide tells me to run demo software that isn't on the SLAMTEC site! There is only a firmware update, some C++ libraries and code snippets, and a driver, no working software!
Could u use it on a drone n have a mapping drone?
Products already exist for such a purpose, and do a far better job.
