Ratchet and Clank PS5 Changed My Mind About Next-Gen! Reaction ! Insomniac has opened my eyes!

  • Me and the stream watched the Gamescom trailers today and overall they were kinda 'meh'. But a few stood out, including the staggeringly cool RATCHET AND CLANK trailer for Playstation 5! Holy cow! Last week we saw the gorgeous BLACK MYTH and today it's Ratchet! Two take aways:
    #1- PS5 is finally- for me anyway- starting to look crazy interesting!
    #2- If I'm Xbox (much as I ADORE what they are doing with Gamepass, Xcloud, and Biz models in general) I would be crapping a brick at this point and time. Dang!
    JAFFE!

    And it gets even better folks get ready for this! A recent IGN article showed that Smith confirmed with Fumitsu at an interview that this game will offer 2 modes: 4K 30 fps and lower res @ 60 fps. He didnt say what the lower res is but my guess is either 1440p or 1080p possibly with TAA and Ray Tracing off but who cares about RT when SSR algorithms got so good over the years that its almost indestinguishable from RT.
    Honestly on my 24 " Asus gaming monitor even 1080p looks solid with decent AA due to the high pixel density. So now I can sleep at night and I'm sure Jaffe you will too 😎 now im def picking up the PS5 at launch esp when Demon Souls and Spiderman MM was also confirmed to support 60 fps. Every exclusive game should have these modes to choose from, theres no excuse. 1440p 60fps is easily doable on these new machines and
    I'm willing to bet my full nutsack at 1080p even with RT, TAA, and same particle count, this game would run at a locked 60 given the console's specs.
    Problem is this casual/noob mentality that "consoles belong in the livingroom on giant TVs" which explains why many devs pushing for 4K like no tomorrow at the cost of performance since anything lower than 4K on these huge TVs would look blurry AF. Nice to see us hardcore folks with monitors getting some love. Gaming was always meant for monitors! I rest my case

      The 60fps mode has been confirmed to be using temporal reconstruction 4K and ray-tracing will remain intact. This is the exact same technique Insomniac used on Spiderman and Ratchet on PS4 Pro and let me tell you, the results were stunning! In fact I dare anyone to say they can see a difference between it and true 4K. The imagery is so sharp and detailed. We are quickly getting to a point where the conversation of true 4K and "fake" 4K is going to become irrelevant.

    • @CheckmateStallioN
      @CheckmateStallioN 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@killerdude35 I really hope this to be true and seeing how amazing those games look on the Pro not surprised. I think they called it temporal injection which is very similar to TSSAA (temporal supersampling). Do you have a source you can post that confirms this? From what I herd they were vague on what resolution the 60 fps will be at but I'm guessing 1440p.
      Either way 1440p on a 27" monitor is indistinguishable from 4K due to the insane pixel density. Also I hope they don't tone down the particle count or other particle effects at 60 fps mode.

    The power and speed of SSD NVME. We are literally talking about how fundamentally this could change how devs can make their games with only using SSD NVME. If Sony plays this right, PS5 and their 1st party will create games that PC and Series X just simply can not do.
    It doesnt matter how powerful PC GPU's get. If youre still making your game using HDD's as a base......... Then youre not pushing gameplay. I really REALLY hope studios begin to add ssd's under recommended spec lists. PC users and Phil Spencer better jump on the train now.... Using SSD's as a base for making games has been long overdue.

Now this is impressive, I don't remember a game doing something similar except for a one time spook loading in advance. Jedi Fallen Order which is a pretty recent game has one of those where you hit a door and have to turn around and suddenly what was behind you is not the same but if you turn around too fast, have the game on a slow HDD or something like that you can spot the new area loading in or notice a big stutter ( Sorry I don't remember what it is exactly but done like they intended it's smooth. ) when the new area loads in and it's even the same assets, same textures. If any games can manage to use this new PS5 tech well, we could see some interesting ideas they can't do on PC because of all the different hardware.
