Theon remains my favorite character, book or show. His split between the family that birthed him and raised him, Independence or submission, honor and power, ect is some of the best storytelling in ASoIaF imho
Theon's arc also seems to mirror the theme of resurrection in the Drowned God's religion. Theon is "killed" by Ramsay, only to be "reborn" once free. And, as we see in the final episode of Season 7, Theon is absolved by Jon, and appears to be stronger (both physically and morally) than he was before his capture. After his torture, he rises again, harder and stronger than he was in the earlier seasons. Yes, he falters and stumbles, but he is stronger nonetheless. The Greyjoys may not sow, but this show totally does!
“We do not sow” is definitely a really weird thing to say proudly. Like, he’s literally saying “we don’t farm our food like normal people. We sail up to the farmer’s land and steal all his crops before gutting him like a pack of rabid psychopaths.” Like, bro, just take some seeds next time and save yourself the trouble of constantly having to risk your life for every grain of wheat you need to eat.
You're assuming that they're in a place where the land can be farmed. It's very likely that the there is little to no fertile land on the Iron Islands. Especially with how rocky and mountainious the area is.

All of this is true, which is why one of the (many) things about the series finale that seemed a little "off" was Yara's willingness to accept Bran as her king, especially when his own sister insisted on Northern independence. Didn't Yara bring up Ironborn independence as part of the deal when she was negotiating to join forces with Daenerys?

She is betrayed, Myrcella is badly hurt (though not killed at this point), and Ser Oakenshield dies valiantly trying to protect his 2 princesses. When finally brought before her father this younger Martell is given his reasoning for trying to appear weak: he has been conspiring to undermine Baratheon rule since his sister Elia's death. She was presented with old, fat, lame suitors that she would reject to keep up appearances, as she and her brother (the boy who showrd up with his friends on Daenerys' doorstep and stupidly tried to approach the dragons beneath the pyramid) were betrothed to the remaining Targaryens. Even as far as Book 5, the Sand Snakes have only ever been a dangerous nuisance, not a power on their own.
I love the Greyjoys , they are so easily un liked because they are just so well written lol. Such a great house to have in the show, and im glad they are finally being used appropriately. I am on team Yara aka Asha all day! that woman is truly Iron Born .

Their king (Balon) scolded Theon for buying a golden chain instead of stealing it (Theon could just lie, but he was never a great thinker, neither are ironborn though). Overall, a cancer society who did nothing good for Westeros. But damn, Victarion book chapters are pure heavy metal. I expected a mention of how "we don't sow" represents that the Greyjoys don't grow things, they don't plant or nurture. They take. This video completely overlooked this aspect of the motto and their personalities.
Rebirth. Theon pays the "iron price" with Ramsey and "dies" now that he is dead as Theon Greyjoy he is reborn as Reek. When he is about to be killed by Euron he runs away, because is pride as Theon is dead and what is dead may never die. The Greyjoys themselves die and are reborn by the hardship of their constant conflict. The Greyjoys who fight in roberts rebellion die off because they sought confict, and they are forged like iron by the "impurities" being killed off in the family line. Theon represents the ways of the drowned god (for the reasons listed above) and Euron represents the storm god. Euron gains strength from destroying and Theon gains strength from being destroyed. Similar to how the ocean becomes for fearsome when acted upon.
The Greyjoys are like the Romans in reverse. Whereas the Greyjoys are powerful at sea but not on land, the Romans were excellent soldiers but poor sailors.
I'm waiting for house Martell. A family that is fading in power, and, despite not as interested in inbreeding like the Targaryen, are declining in health as well. Oberyn was the healthiest of the current family heirs - elia and doran noted for frailty.

The choosing of a new king after the death of the old king is actually what is called "weak kingship," which was a typical feature of ancient societies. The son of a king would have a foot in the door so to speak, but unless the people wanted to follow him, he wouldn't inherit the throne.

I expected a mention of how "we don't sow" represents that the Greyjoys don't grow things, they don't plant or nurture. They take. This video completely overlooked this aspect of the motto and their personalities.
Rebirth. Theon pays the "iron price" with Ramsey and "dies" now that he is dead as Theon Greyjoy he is reborn as Reek. When he is about to be killed by Euron he runs away, because is pride as Theon is dead and what is dead may never die. The Greyjoys themselves die and are reborn by the hardship of their constant conflict. The Greyjoys who fight in roberts rebellion die off because they sought confict, and they are forged like iron by the "impurities" being killed off in the family line. Theon represents the ways of the drowned god (for the reasons listed above) and Euron represents the storm god. Euron gains strength from destroying and Theon gains strength from being destroyed. Similar to how the ocean becomes for fearsome when acted upon.

The Greyjoys are like the Romans in reverse. Whereas the Greyjoys are powerful at sea but not on land, the Romans were excellent soldiers but poor sailors.
