There’s no way Odysseus would know this considering where he got his, and it would reveal to Circe that no, he only got it as a gift.
Molly is born from the blood of a gaint that her father, Helios, slew when it attacked her on the island. The roots are black representing the gaint’s blood and the flower is white representing Helios.
Thanks for that, because i was honestly wondering how he bluffed athena but not circe. Another question is, though, how did she know that it was hermes?

It's only upon being backed into a corner that Circe tries her seduction, and clearly Odysseus wasn't willing to kill her. He was more than willing to talk things out when given the opportunity
21:15 there are two reasons i think athena wasn't here: 1)Circe has a protective curse in her palace. 2)Athena heard that Odysseus is going hero mode and just went "There, there he goes again.Y'know What? I'll leave, why do i even bother.."
I like the set up of this video: one guy who's heard the songs before and another who hasn't, with the awesome animatic that enhances the lyrics, and the discussion. It's great.
I recently learned that Polyphemus killing Polites was a detail created by Jorge, and that in Homer's _The Odyssey_ he doesn't die until an encounter that we will see in Act Two, (trying to be vague so as not to spoil) which I found interesting.
How dare he call manticores and chimeras similar, Im getting the crucifix! One is a lion bat with a venomous scorpion tail, and the other is a lion goat with a venomous snake tail! Totally different! /j
@yeghoian i am making a joke, chimera and manticore are very similar creatures, the "theyre totally distinct!" Is sarcastic after the "a lion bat/goat with venomous tail!" Comment
I LOVE THAT HE CAUGHT THE HABENERA. NO ONE ELSE HAS MENTIONED THAT IN THEIR REACTIONS AND I LOVE THAT ELEMENT IN THE MUSIC!!! Especially since she tries to seduce him and the Habenera is song about sexuality and seduction.
I think you're being reminded of a song from the opera Carmen in the beginning, and that's intentional! Jorge said he wanted to do that because the original song was also about a lady seducing someone to get power.
In the myth, Odysseus stayed on her island as her lover for a year. He was given a pass in the myth because you apparently should never turn down a goddess, lol
"I've gotten comments from pretty much any animator excepr Wolfy." Maybe it was a video released after this was recorded, but I could've sworn I saw a comment by Wolfy on a Mortius-channel reaction video.
I think Odysseus formed a cyclpos not because that was a strong chose (not saying it wasn't) but because we just ended the ocean saga, a saga where he was again reminded of Polyphemus by Poseidon and in the song puppeteer he was distracted..upset, maybe thinking back to the event of polyphemus and how he could've handled it differently...and sometimes people even though there's a new problem infront of them... they're minds are still focused on the problem that started it all....so i think with him being distracted by the reminder of polyphemus, he subconsciously formed a cyclop
I reckon the sun symbol on Circe's waist might be intentional, given the fact that she's daughter of Helios, God of the Sun, I really love that little touch!
Fun Fact: It is very well hidden, but the danger motif is placed in Circe's last verse of the song, where she's about to attempt to use her trump card of seducing Odysseus to save her nymphs
I don’t know if someone else mentioned it but Hermes and Circe are depicted as lovers in different forms of media so one interpretation I’ve read is the reason Hermes helps Odysseus is because Hermes is a bitter ex-boyfriend 😂
I don't think it's really fair to call Odysseus trying to bluff about being a god egotistical. Words have been his strongest tool his whole life so even temporarily infused with godly power to try at least unbalance is opponent before things have to come to blows. In a way, it's the exact opposite of egotistical - taking the opportunity to try make his opponent vary of him, no matter how unlikely, feels more like he's not really sure that the Moly alone will give him enough an edge so any little bit could help him. And when the bluff fails so completely, he doesn't keep insisting and instead moves on with his original plan.
Yes, exactly! It's a tactic. I think overall they do underestimate Odysseus intelligence. He makes more than a few dumb mistakes, but I don't think he's as stupid as they make him out to be.
@@mjdragonmaster6559 Absolutely. I think a lot of viewers' opinion on him dropped after seeing/hearing Ruthlessness because they get fixated over the 'apology' bit and forget gods aren't reasonable beings that treat mortals with any kind of fairness. I mean, Odysseus is arguably the smartest man in Greek mythology, notorious for being someone who plans for every fight. Just because his mortal emotions were something Athena didn't want to deal with doesn't mean the tactical mind that earned him her attention and favour over all other mortals in the world has somehow disappeared.
16:04 you guys mentioning the instrumental staying on odysseyus as hes getting cocky made me realize something. the second he says "you and i are now evenly matched" her quior eather joins his guitar or is the only instrumental element present. I just love the detail he put into this musical❤.
I have never understood how people thought Aelolus was fair or helpful. She gave Ody a rigged game. Her winions helped manipulate the men into opening the bag.
I would also like to point out one thing! And that is when the chorus is sung the first time, when Circe is singing by herself, during the line "If you make one wrong move then you're done for." You can hear the roar of a chimera during the words "wrong move". It's at that point that she summons her creature. And then when they sing the chorus together, at the line "You've made your one wrong move now you're done for", during "wrong move" you can hear the roar of a cyclops as Odysseus summons it.
The connection to the habanera from Carmen is so good 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 The use of half steps and dissonance in it adds such a depth to the story of Carmen, and it does the same here. It's such a subtle but impactful way to emphasize the differences in Odysseus' and Circe's perspectives and the dissonance in their conversation.
Right out the gate "banana peel" had me dying! I found Mortius's video for "There are Other Ways" first and was like "wait, where is Done For?" So happy I found it!!
Well we could have a conversation...but then again, monsters, conflict and emotions running high makes for a lot more entertaining video and musical :P
There's a specific animatic that Jorge actually provided visual concepts for the animator and he shared the concept on his Tik Tok, and I really hope you see it. I can't remember who it was.
Interesting speculation about Athena and Circe. I'd imagine Athena knows Circe is a goddess, and therefore immortal, but that _would_ be something she'd demand Odysseus do in different but similar circumstances.
Oh woah, thank you Casper for putting a name to the same phobia :0! I love love horror and I have to mentally prepare for anything zombie related bc when it was bad (I've gotten better) I actually got pychosis from it :/
I have a suspicion that Athena's piano is absent because she doesn't need to watch this to see how it unfurls. I wonder if perhaps she nudged Hermes into giving the Holy Moley to Odysseus.
"And then I'll go to sleep because it's 11:50 and we still got one more song to do." I don't get in bed until 3AM, so I find that really funny. I can't imagine going to bed that early. I haven't since high school. My body would probably thank me if I did, tbh. 🤷🏻
I know Zeus was for Troy in the war, so he had no reason to want to protect Odysseus from Astyanax potentially killing him (but had every reason to want to torment him by manipulating him to commit infanticide) but I would assume Athena wanted the Greeks to win, so Odysseus could've given Astyanax to her to protect him from the other gods using her Quick Thought ability to prevent them from telling him about his father, and Odysseus was already a pupil of Athena before the war, so Idk why he wouldn't have turned to her instead of caving to her father's manipulation. (Sorry, that has been on my mind the past few days and it finally spilled out into a comment at the mention of the owl.)
This song is also so fun, musically-wise, with all that back & forth, i think the intrumentals elevate this song for me, the vocals alone would not have it so high imo But also! Another instance of Odysseus' pride! He _is_ cocky and he _IS_ prideful, and often right in the face of gods! (And it doesnt often work out for him, not since "Polyphemus" & his lotus/Nobody gamble)

1)Circe has a protective curse in her palace.
2)Athena heard that Odysseus is going hero mode and just went "There, there he goes again.Y'know What? I'll leave, why do i even bother.."
I've listened to "Done For" countless times, and Casper pointing out the "Horse and the Infant" guitar was the first time I caught it.
Dude chill but agree with you
@yeghoian i am making a joke, chimera and manticore are very similar creatures, the "theyre totally distinct!" Is sarcastic after the "a lion bat/goat with venomous tail!" Comment
THANK YOU
OMG Odysseus is singing in the danger motif, HE IS THE DANGER in this song
"What the men did I hope Im wrong" oh no. your right and thank you for acknowledging that because I havent seen a single person who has.
I love that he is always so close to the danger motif yet not really there.
Casper wondering if the dance will turn horizontal is so pure.
WET HADES AND MOISTIUS???
Odysseus _kinda_ did something similar with Polyphemus. I know the "Nobody" thing was tactical, but it was also playful in a way.
I think you're being reminded of a song from the opera Carmen in the beginning, and that's intentional! Jorge said he wanted to do that because the original song was also about a lady seducing someone to get power.
Can’t wait to see death-poseidon next saga!
There may be natural-born pigs on Aeaea, so that image of the child holding the pig may not be entirely horrific.
Someday, Martius is going to start dribbling blood out of the sides of his mouth from biting his cheeks so hard when you start theorizing s***.
Fun Fact:
It is very well hidden, but the danger motif is placed in Circe's last verse of the song, where she's about to attempt to use her trump card of seducing Odysseus to save her nymphs
Witch Hades
He summoned a cyclops because he knew it well enough to recreate.
CIRCE IS LITERALLY HELIOS'S DAUGHTER THATS WHY THERE'S A SUN
She is the kid of the sun god Helios
I don’t know if someone else mentioned it but Hermes and Circe are depicted as lovers in different forms of media so one interpretation I’ve read is the reason Hermes helps Odysseus is because Hermes is a bitter ex-boyfriend 😂
The heartbeat like beat is also in Polyphemus when he says "Time to drink"
I just love the detail he put into this musical❤.
yes it's very derived from a waltz, it's essentially challenging the "queen of a palace"
I saw someone theorizing that the small pig is actually Elpenor! I'm pretty sure he was the youngest of Odysseus' men
Your first time reactions are the absolute best initial analysis ive seen on TH-cam.
Also, Annie simply... GETS the amusement that Gods generally had, their cockiness too. Her re"Divines" are the best thing
When does a man become a monster… I love looking at Mortius’ face when Casper mentions the future and underworld, especially considering Polites.
i am SO partial to Gigi's other ways but AUGHHH theyre both rlly nice
21:42 Casper.exe has stopped working lmao
I almost tried to lick Odysseus’s face through the screen cuz of how much I loved his hair😭😭😭😭
Her father Is Helios the Titan that brings the sun up in the morning and sets it at night. He shines bright like the sun
I somehow completely forgot this was releasing today so I did miss the premiere but I'll watch it tomorrow I guess.
Mason is MVP
Interesting speculation about Athena and Circe. I'd imagine Athena knows Circe is a goddess, and therefore immortal, but that _would_ be something she'd demand Odysseus do in different but similar circumstances.
Speaking of modern sounding musicals, can't wait for y'all to do Hamilton 😊
Oh woah, thank you Casper for putting a name to the same phobia :0! I love love horror and I have to mentally prepare for anything zombie related bc when it was bad (I've gotten better) I actually got pychosis from it :/
I have a suspicion that Athena's piano is absent because she doesn't need to watch this to see how it unfurls. I wonder if perhaps she nudged Hermes into giving the Holy Moley to Odysseus.
the reused polyphemus roar in the song when the fight starts? so good man
not mortius trying to hard to keep it together lmao i love you mortius
"And then I'll go to sleep because it's 11:50 and we still got one more song to do." I don't get in bed until 3AM, so I find that really funny. I can't imagine going to bed that early. I haven't since high school. My body would probably thank me if I did, tbh. 🤷🏻
Cerci father is Helios, the son titan and her mother is Perse, an ocean nymph ☀️🌊
Dude, that hurt. I'll wait, but damn, you got some stuff coming.
This song is also so fun, musically-wise, with all that back & forth, i think the intrumentals elevate this song for me, the vocals alone would not have it so high imo
But also! Another instance of Odysseus' pride!
He _is_ cocky and he _IS_ prideful, and often right in the face of gods!
(And it doesnt often work out for him, not since "Polyphemus" & his lotus/Nobody gamble)
