  • I'd been looking at excavators for over a year but they were always out of my price range. My brother in law called me up and said he'd put up the money if I could find on that was priced right. We found this Case 9060B track hoe for about half the price of scrap metal. It needs some love but it will be perfect for the ranch...

      well if he paid scrap for it, it would have been around $6,860. He said he paid half the price for scrap so around 3k to 4k roughly.

      98,500lbs he pays $0.20 for scrap but gets $0.10 for it so either $19,700 or $9,850. Half the price of scrap, when he buys, $9,850, when he sells, $4,925. I'm basing prices on previous vids, not my local.

    Looking forward to your road building. Perhaps you could start a business for ranchers to hire you to build roads for them.
    Y'know, as the boys grow older they can run some of the machines as well. I have friends who drove heavy equipment long before the were old enough to drive cars. One channel I watch on TH-cam now is LetsDig18. That guy (Chris) is an artist with a track hoe. One of his videos, just for fun, has him stacking toilets with a Volvo digger. Awesome touch that man has with a beast!
    Keep up the videos. Love watching the homestead develop!

    Had to add, noticed the roof has no tar paper on it. Water damages OSB real fast. If waiting for your metal roof then just put a heavy tar paper to keep the OSB semi protected. House looks great. Maybe put the wood burner in to keep house warm while working this winter. House looks great sitting on your property ‼️‼️👍

    First thing , get the Shop Manual for that machine . Then check the Hydraulic pressures at the Pump , Control Valves , Left Track Drive , and Right Track Drive . Pressures should all be reasonably close , if not , you'll know where to start checking more closely . Could be bad or worn Control Valve , bad Check Valve , bad Bypass Valve , Bad Drive Motor , or any of a number of things .

    Have you performed any cycle time checks? Its a poor mans flow test. If you get it nailed down to a pump you might try utah track and weld down here in salt lake. They have quite the assortment of scrap machines. Of course its hard to know what kind of shape the parts are in coming off a scrap machine.

      Scrap right now has hit 1.95 per 100 weight, which translates to 195 per ton here. That’s 9750 for this excavator and half of scrap would be just under 5000. Google is your friend, you can watch TH-cam but can’t google scrap prices?

    Looks like your excavator has street pads on the tracks...
    To get her to crawl the slopes better..
    Maybe if needed look at putting some grousers on them... (Check out dozers for grousers vs street pads on track loaders)....
    And an easier way to help her to turn..
    Is to use the boom to lift the machine up on one end..
    So while turning only part of the track is on the ground...
    There by not having to slide the whole track...
    Remember exvavators aren't slope machines...
    That being said...
    Run your engine oil levels higher..
    Or if you have the resourses..
    Switch the engine over to dry sump..
    If you can find a swivel for the bucket..
    Or
    Check out images
    Ditch tilting excavator bucket
    Or make one...
    Life will be easier...
    Have fun....

    Ha! Sounds familiar. I was looking for a track loader, around a CAT 955 to 977 size, and instead bumped into a killer deal on a 32 ton 1998 Daewoo 280LC excavator. 2100 original hours and 80% undercarriage. Has the optional wide tracks, 54" bucket, and a mechanical thumb. Only issues are the center swivel is leaking (working on replacing it now) and throttle management controller is toast. (can run throttle manually, so no big) The rest is cosmetic. (broken glass (replaced), missing left and right side service doors (already fabricated replacements that look factory i65.tinypic.com/34s4i13.jpg ), and in need of a paint job and new decals (will be doing that this summer)) Bought it for $9900

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think my swivel might be leaking also.

    • @ElementofKindness
      @ElementofKindness 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not surprising if it were. That could also be part of your track power loss, if it's leaking between races. Always check the cheap fixes first. Mine is leaking out the top, enough that it expels the grease for the top bearings.
      I was going to attempt rebuilding it, and I separated it in the machine. Unfortunately, when I extracted the inner portion, the top bearings (which are not caged) ended up dropping through each seal race, indenting the races and making sealing impossible. Of course, knowing now that this can happen, I'd disassemble differently if I had to do it again.
      I thought about having the races welded and re-machined, but the cost of a new unit wasn't that much.

  • @sogyseal7962
    @sogyseal7962 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Check the swivel but if only 1 side of the travel is weak it could be the drive motor. Check the pressure at both travel motors with the tracks stalled. Looks very sold to be a older case. On your bucket cylinder, cylinders can be repacked if the are leaking and re chromed and straightened if they are physically damaged. On an older excavator you'll want to check for drift in the cylinders and valves and wear in the track link bushings. Its pretty common for excavators to have pretty bad track link bushings which is fine until they break or the pins start walking out.

    February 6th 2018. Some years ago maybe about 15 years ago they were tearing down his parking ramp several stories high and they had this massive crane like you have but it was bigger what's the weight over a hundred tons because it came in about three different trucks so it just sat there for a couple of weeks. But as long as it was sitting there and it wasn't doing anything they were making money off. They had to replace a part on this this crane. The price tag for a used part was $400,000. So the the hydraulic system was more expensive than the crane itself but they did buy one. I don't know how much they got to tear down the building maybe it was a million dollars. But it was sure noisy.

    same as a link belt 5800. check the drive motors on the tracks. I would bet the oil in the gear boxes has never been changed. no ever services those. they don't take much oil either. under a gallon each. you may also have a bad valve or spring causing problems with the drive motor, or it could be the drive motor but start with the simple things first. link belt and case are the same identical machines made by Sumitomo so parts won't be hard to find at all.

  • @waynep343
    @waynep343 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i hope you have access to machine shop equipment and welding equipment.. you could create a half width bulldozer pull blade to mount on the boom to assist you in road building. might have to rig up a roller for the arm also. so you can compact the road surfaces.
    till you get it fixed.. pull the batteries. put them on a battery maintaining charger. on a sheet of foam sheathing if the batteries are going to be exposed to extreme cold.. build a foam sheathing box to put over them. . check the coolant for the proper percentage of freeze protection.. and get some vinyl boat wrap or use some house wrap and winterize the cab and engine compartment.. hopefully it has solid plugs in where the ram was removed.. not just plastic cap plugs pushed in.
    you might also try to park it up on logs so its not sitting all winter in the mud.
    looks like you have a great new tool.. biggest on the block..

    Man, that thing is big. I would have thought a mini excavator would have been a safer choice. You touched on one fact, once it got there, it will not leave. those things are just so incredibly heavy that they are hard to move. Definitely will handle anything you throw at it, but be careful my friend. That much weight makes it easy to slide down the mountain, and that weight can work against you. Good luck with the repairs.

    I own a 22.5 acre parcel our summer home sits on and own a Bobcat I used to bring in and spread six 34 ton gravel trains of pulverized concrete to lay the base layer of our 2,400 lft roads and it worked the Bobcat to death ,I lucked into buying a Sky Trak 10054 Tele handler with front down riggers along with a blade ,a jib and winch which makes the machine a crane ,I got a loader bucket a digging bucket and a 12 foot mast ,the machine has the air conditioned heated cab too and I snagged it all for $35,000 ,I brought in eight gravel trains of 60/40 road gravel last spring and spread it all in 2 days with the 54 ft machine ,my brother helped me fab a 6 ft x 8ft vibrating tamp attachment that allowed me to compact the entire road in 4 days ,this year we brought in the final layer of foundry slag and got it spread by the end of October so now all we have left is to bring in the top coat of crushed limestone in the summer and our roads are complete ,all toll I've spent just over $150,000 for roads my cheapest bid was $390,000 .

    How come so many of these large machines are so cheap? Is it because of their age? Some mini excavators are pushing upwards of 50,000 used. I keep seeing large machines like CAT 350s for 30,000-40,000, though. I’m assuming this is all about age?

    Sumitomo makes Linkbelt machines also. Poclain used to make case track hoes.
    Get a pressure gauge set and check charge pressure usually 300-400psi then check max pressure at right track motor stalled. Should be 3000psi plus. Check hyd oil for bronze iron particles early sign that pump piston shoes are failing. Once metal is in system its impossible to get it out. Often metal will go down into track motors and clog motor spools reducing flow. Lower speed but equal stall torque on right track vs left may be this or rotary manifold internal leak between seal rings. If machine had over 12000 hours pumps are due for rebuild.

    i was just looking around and it seems that the final drive may have a removable hydraulic motor.. so you might be able to remove and plug the hoses.. making sure that you don't empty the hydraulic tank out on the ground.. you might be able to fix the blown seals in the track drive hydraulic motor.. instead of the complete final drive.. this site shows final drive with out motor.. or just the motor .amsfinaldrives.com/case/9060/excavator/final-drives. did you end up with a service manual.. if you can do power steering boxes .. you should be able to take apart a final drive you will have to spend the money and get proper hose plugs for it.. hopefully the batteries are inside your house and are charged once in a while.

    don't worry about a hydraulic thump, a stationary one will do most of what you want. the price of hydraulic hoses and fitting will kill you. make sure you get eh electrical and hydraulic schematics so you can fix it.

    ahahahahaha -- bet it - is / was a money pit - that old and worn out cheap - was it the final drive or a levers adjustment with the pull one way thing - how much do yu have in it now - thinking about buying one myself - pumps are ridicules priced - and they almost always need them I hear - and never ever mention scrap metal prices - will ruin it for the rest of us -- ahahahahahahaha -- and they say that the maintenance is never really kept up good on the old ones - and every fluid needs to be changed in them when bought - filters need to be changed every year before winter they say - HUH ? ! - wondering how it has held up -

    25-30 grand for a final drive (track) and about the same amount for a main pump drive (tired Hydraulics). Have replaced both of those on different pieces of equipment. Hope it’s just a few bad valves.

      I don't know where your buying stuff where ever it is your being cleaned anyway.
      You can buy a very good 200 size here that works for that amount of money

      Dude someone is ripping you off on parts.
      This is a older model so I would recomend finding a parts yard.
      That and go aftermarket on the parts.

    Hoe is a shorter word and weld some grouser bars on those tracks. You will be shocked at how much better it will climb and work on the slopes. You can also use a wide I beam to either hook to the stick instead of the bucket or grab it once you get the thumb that way you can grade just like having a dozer.
