It's rare to have 4 cubs. I've never seen 5 cubs before with one mother. The cubs all look about the same size so I guess they all belong to the one mama. Good job mama bear all your babies look strong and healthy!
It’s a shame there habitat is getting smaller so the have to come into the neighborhood but it is so nice to see them up close like that and to have five kids !! They definitely make a mess but it’s not really there fault I would give anything to live in the neighborhood 🙏thanks for sharing their adventure

I love how this mamma bear passes garbage cans moves on, sniffs air, then backtracks, takes out the goods and her little babes get some munchies. "This is where you can get food babies-learn!!!" I love the bears you all have there. Glad they were able to get her to take in the 2 cubs from another bear-5 is a lot. Hope they all made it... I watch Patrick Conley's bears but it seems you got to see mamma Simone with her four cubs before he did this year(I saw another video of yours with Simone and her 4 cubs this year 2023).... Can't believe she had four this time but she is a good mamma. Glad you caught this on video, thanks.

I was waiting for this! I live in bear country and I filmed a mother and 5 cubs right behind my back door. Watching the cubs play is like a comedy routine. They tumble over each other, play leap frog, etc. I was like, " Wait, what?" when they walked past that trash can. I'm not interested in trash, said no bear, ever! Those people ought to know better. A garbage bag is just a sack lunch for a bear. They've developed the art of swinging a bag over their shoulder well, considering there are no bags in the wild. I've seen them do it many times.
You know what's weird? Listening to the radio and the stuff they're talking about, all those years ago! Especially now in June 2020 with all the riots and Anarchy and coronavirus! Seems like such a peaceful time not so long ago!

Why don't people use bear-proof trash bins? Those bears are going to think that area is a free-for-all food pantry. They WILL come back and there WILL be conflict. SIGH.
Because those are the garbage bins supplied by the garbage hauling company, which wants to make it as easy as possible to collect garbage. They come along, and use an arm on the truck to tip the bin over the top of the truck whether the bin is full or empty.
because that would cost $50 per household and the people who dwell on suburbs that encroached on these ecosystems will be outraged by that. oh and also because there probably isn't a bear proof wheelie bin that works yet. they not dumb.

This is an old video but this is astonishingly impressive. Two cubs is cool, three is rare, 4 is impressive and 5 is breathtaking. AND they're all of good size, she must be an amazing bear mother to keep her cubs alive this long
OMG... wow...I never seen so many cubs at one time. Mother bear has a collar, so she's a protected bear. Probably watched for purpose of keeping track of this phenomenon! Cubs and mother are all fat and healthy looking. Amazing! :)

I was thinking maybe iher cubs were from two “litters” if that what you call it, but those Cubs are approximately the same size. Most bear 🐻 moms loose a cub if they have more than two. She is extraordinary. to have gotten them so far along. It would be amazing to see this in person as I am thrilled to see any cubs. When she brings them back to visit this neighborhood when they are grown there is going to be TROUBLE 😈

I am seeing more and more videos with mama's that have 4 and 5 cubs. I wonder if this is nature's way of making sure they don't go extinct. Most bears have 1 or 2 only.
I think she accepted other cubs because bears have only 3 cubs. BUT I could be wrong. They were very healthy even getting into garbage. I sure hope mama shows cubs how to find nautural foods. Otherwise there learning bad habits that could kill them with plastics or other bad items in garbage. I am shocked to see trash container didn't have a lock being in bear country. Those cubs were large and with winter coming on she would probably leave them and go into her den for snow. BUT she may take them in for the winter and send them off in spring to begin their new lives. Great video. I'm with national parks wildlife management in California as volunteer and have learned so much about black bears. I had to watch your video several times to enjoy cubs and that great mama watching over them.
2 our adopted, the other mom died. The babies stay with mom until 5 years. The Wildlife has her tagged, I would think they would address the trash issue with the public,to get bear proof can.
bears can have up to five. especially in a place like nc where weather is mild, predators scace, and food sources VERY plentiful...and assuming this was filmed in december, they probably don't even hybernate in the carolinas
Aw, this is a wonderful video! I have taken a big interest in Bears and have been studying their habits. Right now they are eating everything they can to fatten up for denning. It looks like they have just about reached their goal. (-; They look very healthy. I have seen Mom's with 5 cubs a couple times. The bear folks were able to get the momma to adopt two bears without a momma and that is how she got the 5.

She's a strong healthy sow, otherwise five cubs wouldn't have survived. Litters are usually smaller. The cubs also look healthy !!

Bears can have far more than 3 cubs. Especially black bears. They are prolific. The issue is about half die before their first year.
