Thank you the great tips! I started my orchids collection about 15 months ago (got my first one for Valentines) . Now, I have 25 orchids. I am in love with my orchids.
Thanks for your videos! Very informative. I live on a Caribbean island and our humidity is above 70% all year round. Dendrobiums, phalaenopsis and cataleyas are available everywhere Not so much for the oncidium orchids! But your videos provided so much info for me to start up my own little orchid garden!
Thank you very much for the video and your channel, it is really, really helpful. I've had a Berry Oda for about six months and she's grown A LOT of canes since then :D
Thank you so much for the great information you provide. I've tried several orchids without knowing much. I fare best with Paphiopedilum for now and had good success with the yellow Oncidium. Miltoniopsis was dead in no time. I bought a Cattleya now and have a Vandacous since about six months with absolutely no development. No growth whatsoever. It turned out that it needs much more water than 2 - 3 soakings a week, even in winter and does not like strong light as stated everywhere. Wilted bright green leaves and the loss of most of the roots was the result. I'll try full water growth. After the first DAY! there was new roots growth... We'll see... Anyway I appreciate your hard work very much. Especially the fact that you live in southern Europe - as I do - is very helpful: same climate, same sources for orchids... 😉
What is bud blast? I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you. I inherited different kinds of orchids, but I don’t know how to distinguish one from another. Can you help me?
Hi Dan! Newbie orchid grower here. I was just wondering what you meant by "bud blast" for the phal. And I love your videos. Very helpful on understanding orchids and discovering more through your teachings. :)
Hi, well we call bud blast the drying and falling of an orchid bud, before flowering. It can happen due to various reasons, here's a video I made about it in which I explain more th-cam.com/video/wH9k2XuDNYE/w-d-xo.html
I love oncidiums! I only have one though; they're not common here unfortunately. I found them to be very resilient to repotting. Their spikes grow very quickly too!
I only have two oncidiums. My sharry baby has done well but I feel like I just got lucky with it. My newest one I got off ebay and most of it's roots were dead, the bulbs are very shriveled but I think the new growth is trying to produce roots. I hope I can revive it.
Hi Ramona, just keep the top of the media moist, this will keep the new roots from desiccating. If they get enough energy from the old bulbs to grow, they will replenish the old bulbs as well ;) like I said, it is the soft spot of all oncidiums. Fingers crossed!
I purchased two huge Sharry Babies. The owner where I purchased them said to not repot or fertilize until after the bloom. There are no bloom spikes currently and they are planted in black nursery pots, not orchid pots. I feel I need to repot them in new medium AND into a suitable orchid pot. My question is whether or not I should do this now since there are no flower spikes. Thanks!
I might just be a terrible orchid owner. The roots of my oncidium (when I got it) were full of myriapoda and started smelling terrible, then the bulbs started shriveling, the leaves full of small dark spots. When I tried raising the humidity levels in my enviroment the bulbs became mushy, now that I separated the rotten bulbs I just realized it also has fusarium! :( Danny is such a pro
Thank you. I did repot about 18/mos ago - but can try again. would a fungus infection be a possibility? I did spray with an organic (sulfur based) spray.
+Elaine Mazer a fungal infection would be visible so if you don't see anything strange maybe you shouldn't worry. If the orchids look healthy and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the media, maybe it's not a reason for worry, they don;t necessarily need to bloom every year. They might have gone through some sort of stress that you are not aware of, but if the plants look very healthy, there's no reason to panic I think.
MissOrchidGirl Hi, Danny I want you to ask if is possible to grow two orchids, in fact two species of orchids, one cymbidium and one miltonia in the same pot?
MissOrchidGirl and except Paphs? I don´t admire its lip :)) But I hope, some day it will happen.:) I realized the more you are interested in orchids, the more you become delight with bizzared ones. :D have a nice day
Martina Novakova well not many are ok in low light and are easy to care for.. there are the masdevallias but they can be tricky, they need a lot of humidity. Also Miltoniopsis and nelly islers are low light but they are a bit tricky.. depends what you mean by low light :)
MissOrchidGirl I adore much your knowledges :) thank you for all answers you give me these days :) your videos are so helpful, thank them I realized, that i have bought miltoniopsis not miltonia as it was marked :D
I personally grow cymbidiums, those are VERY hardy as long as you dont overwater or leave them in the blazing sun in summer. Mine have flowered almost every year.
+jliu2003 Hi, ow I'm so jealous I could not manage to bloom them so far in my balcony, they do seem to like the outside world :) I might try them again on my terrace though
Hallo Miss Orchid girl! I have a problem! I have a lovely healthy orchid plant with not a single flower stalk! I think they snapped off when we were moving house, and about 2 years later, lovely healthy strong leaves but no Orchids! How can I get them back?Thank you!
I m new about orchids, but I bought a phalaenopsis last week ,the seller told me to put this orchid in water culture, as I was no knowledge about it, he made this, the plant is OK till now, but I want to know what's the benefit in fully water culture rather than potting
Hi, I'm a subscriber and have been following you for about 2 months now. I live in Connecticut and would like to buy a Oncidium Orchids but can not find any here. Can you please tell me a good on line source for buying an orchid like this? Thanks,,, Tom
Just discovered your channel. Love it. I live in a Northern Climate (Canada). I have grown phals with no problems. Recently moved and now have a very bright south west windowsill in addition to my east window sill where my phals live. Can you suggest some orchids for the bright south west windowsill. I always humidify in winter, and our summers are humid and hot here. Should I shade this window with a sheer curtain?
+Marcella Miller ooooh you will love high light orchids, I suggest Cattleyas for the most part, but also Vandas, Dendrobium Phalaenopsis and maybe species like Maxillaria tenuifolia, Encyclia and Epidendrum :D you'll love them and some Catts are very fragrant. I think a sheer curtain will be needed yes, full sun might be a bit too much in a southern exposure.
+MissOrchidGirl , again, thank-you SO much for the reply. One more question, if you don't mind :) - I need to put my phals in the same south west window where I will be growing my FIRST EVER catt. Culture for both seem similar, in terms of water, temperature, although my phals really like the humidity. The main difference being, of course, this window will be too bright for my phals. (I had to remove them from the east window, because I realized that a large apartment building was blocking out the light after about 1:00. Could I use a denser curtain or may double up on the sheers for the phal side of the sill, and a sheer for my catt side? (on south-west window) What do you think?
Hello! I really like your video clips and wonder if you have any on the orchid Ludisia? How to manage it because it's different from normal orchids. It's hard to find any good visual information on it.
Hi, I don't have a Ludisia simply because I don't like it. It is a terrestrial orchid so it is different from other orchids. here is something that might help www.orchid-care-tips.com/jewel-orchid.html
hi Ms.Danie just wanna ask about my dendros i planted it to a clay pot.they are heathy but has too many roots and over loaded already.is it ok to repot it and for sure need to cut some of the roots that are sticking in the pot.it is ok to cut it?what will i put after cutting to hell the roots?
Hi Dany, my father had obtained a plant that resembles a dendrobrium a year ago but it doesn't seem to be growing any leaves. We keep in low light as he instructed but the only things that seems to be growing are babies. Should I be worried that there is something wrong?
Hi.. I’m in India... my temperature will be 28 to 32 degrees.. but I have a spacious and shaded balcony... east facing.. receives only morning direct sunlight.. can I give try with these orchids.. kindly do reply.. I just love gardening especially orchids are my dream plant to grow..
Hello - I have three cattleyas that have been blooming well for several years in the same location and now for the past several months every flowering bud blackens and dies. Is this called "bud blast"? What causes this and what can I do about it? Thank you.
+Elaine Mazer Hi Elaine, well if nothing changed in your environment and in your care (example: getting water on the buds, lack of ventilation etc) maybe it's time to consider repotting. If you never repotted them the media might have become degraded and toxic. This leads to some issues from root burn, to fungal infections, to dehydration in case of root loss, to excessive humidity etc. So think about these factors and try to find the culprit.
I have a Phalaenopsis orchid (Seller lost Label) and i've been wondering. Do you always have to have clear pots? Thanks, also are they tolerant to direct sunlight?
Hi, no you don't necessarily need clear pots. They are helpful for beginners as you can see if the roots are ok or the medium is dry though. And no they are not tolerant to direct sunshine, Phalaenopsis in general can easily get sunburns :)
Hey do you know the name of the first orchid you showed? It’s the yellow one with white lip. You also showed it at the end. I bought one at my local grocery store but didn’t come with a name.
+Anna Holt hello, yes you can by making a division. Here is a video I made on how I propagated a Cattleya, it should be pretty much the same for the dendrobium berry oda as well :) th-cam.com/video/1kACzEUoCfg/w-d-xo.html
Denny i have den. Nobile orchid but instead of blooming it get keikis to much keikis ik have to kill a lot them , only the normal dendrobium orchid rebloom normally , what can i do wrong ?
Hi, maybe it's something you are missing in the care routine, probably the winter rest. Here is my tutorial th-cam.com/video/0jlJbl7npOk/w-d-xo.html Remember you can always search TH-cam for my videos on whatever subject you are interested in, I have about 2000 videos of orchid information! Just search 'missorchidgirl' and the subject you'd like to find out more about. Example: type in TH-cam search 'missorchidgirl dendrobium nobile care'. Hope it helps!
OBJECTION my cattleya orchids blooms have lasted 3 months now. It must either be the species or maybe the humidity in Queensland, Australia.ps this is not a hate comment.
well I usually buy them from my garden center or online from a local store, but sometimes I use plastic cups for the smaller orchids. Whatever suits them I save and transform :) I make the sideholes myself though ;)
Hi Danni, I have a serious problem, Both of my phals are now dropping there buds, I haven't found any spider mites, but then again I'm old and my vision isn't that great so they could be there, and olny one of the plants is getting the webs, I am really worried that I will loose both these phals, My son has gotten back from buying new bark and plant feed and new pots, So I will repot them. the jewel plant has a egg sack on top of the soil but I only just got this plant and its nowhere near the other plants If you have any advise, I would greatly appriciate it, I did wipe the leave down with a micro fibre cloth but saw nothing should i spray them with hair spray? just in case , put them in water and just try water instead of bark to see if that works, PLEASE help I'm desperate, Thanks Rosemary
Rosemary457 Hi Rosemary, first off stay calm, nothing will happen overnight :) ok if there are no mites all is well, sometimes the webs might have been created by normal spiders, which don;t eat plants. As I said in my previous message, newly acquired orchids sometimes lose their buds and flowers fast because they switch environments, from the store to your house. Phals are especially prone to this. It's not pleasant but it's very very common. An orchid losing buds is nowhere near death lol, the most important thing is that the leaves look nice and stiff, not droopy and leathery, that would be a reason for concern. Look at the leaves and root system, those are the health indicators not the flowers. In case all the buds will drop it's ok, the orchid might produce secondary spikes from the main spike and bloom in a few months, all is ok. If not, then wait for next season. For now check the roots through the transparent pot. they should be green when wet and silvery when dry. they might have green growing tips, which would be great. Leaves should be green and firm. Remove the webs and see if they come back. I am not sure what the egg sack is on top of the soil though..
Hi Danni, Thanks for the reply, I did repot the plants, and a good thing too, The roots around the center of the core where black and hanging on by a thread, Only the roots against the pot where green and healthy, So I have cut the dead ones away, I didn't find any insects at all so that was good, I washed everything and placed them in new fresh bark mix, But I haven't watered them yet I thought it might be best to give them a couple of days to dry off, and to be honest today they both look better the remaining flower are a bit perkier, Trouble is I have watched your video about the bark you didn't like by Focus You said it was'nt sterilised and that was the one my son picked up for me, so I'm hoping I don't end up with all those nasty brown marks on the leaves that your poor plants had, I'm still watching the plant with the spider egg sack, I'll let you know what happens, I think I have a new shoot on one of the flower spikes, And today my plants are getting there first bright sunny day since I got them, Both are sun bathing in a defused window, LOL Thank you Danni
Rosemary457 well I hope I got a bad batch, doesn't mean all of the products are bad :) mine was actually growing proper mushrooms lol so obviously there was something wrong with it :P
Hi Dani, I'm a little late in viewing this video, but so glad I found you! I have a few Phalanopsis and am struggling with them so I've learned a lot from you already...Anyway, can you tell me the name again of the Dendrobium? I can't make out the second name you are saying. Sounds a bit like varioda? Thanks so much and really appreciate your videos! Sharon
I've also killed one. Was so happy I'd found one since they're pretty rare here, and two months later it died. To be fair the room I had them in at that time was not ideal for orchids (very dry air and two big windows with very direct sunlight), and all but one of my orchids died. Very unpleasant. Im having a bit more luck with them here in my flat. :)
Hey! I am having a go at more-than-whats-in-the-stores orchids, and ordered a Phalænopsis online, but as a seedling. I am a patient man, so I'm fine with waiting, but approximately how old does an orchid have to be to produce flowers do you reckon?
Hi, well in the case of Phalaenopsis it can take maybe 2- 3-4 years to become an adult, depends what seedling it is (deflasked or already hardened). But you might be lucky and it will bloom faster, for example if it's a smaller Phalaenopsis and the size of the seedling is misleading. It really does depend on the species in the end and ofcourse what care it received, if it stalled or not.
i have this friend who Loves these flowers & to surprise her i was wanting to make some for her but i live in washington & have no green house. Got any ideas?
Hi Andy, you don't need a greenhouse for these orchids :) you can find very nice Phalaenopsis orchids at almost any big home improvement store or garden center. I think she will like a Phalaenopsis and will be a great first orchid as she is pretty forgiving :)
Hi Danny, Which scented orchid would you recommend for beginners? I live in a concrete appartment with a south-east window exposure, so as you can imagine the climate inside can be warm and VERY DRY!! (sometimes humidity levels below 20%! yeah....it's crazy!) I mist my orchids every morning, which usually help my orchids thrive. I have experienced that any miltoniopsis orchid I've tried wouldn't survive for me. I already have a coconut orchid, an oncidium sharry baby, and a couple of twinkle's, but i'd love to expand my fragrant orchid collection ;-)
+Malu Kehlet Hansen hello, well for your climate I think cattleyas are the best, they cannot really be bothered with too much humidity if thy are well watered. There are many fragrant hybrids, it's just up to you to smell them and see which one you like, or order one that is specified to be fragrant :) bonus.. cattleyas have different fragrances, you never know what you'll get, some are beyond your wildest dreams :P
Well, Im not Danny, but online stores feature lots of fragrant orchids, though it'll be a hit and miss since you wont be able to determine if you like the scent prepurchase. In Europe you can buy orchids from Schwerter's and several other stores, in the U.S I think Akatsuka Gardens are your best bet. Several people sell orchids on Ebay and Amazon. Other than that, I'd suggest you contact your local garden center and ask them when they tend to have fragrant orchids in store. Good luck! :)
Hi, I'm a new subbie, I have been watching your channel videos for about a week, and love how informative they are, I am also a new owner of orchids, 1 that I got for mothers day and one i bought to keep it company LOL, both are phals. my 3rd one is called jewel orchid ludsia discolor, strange name, One of the phals flowers look like they are closing, are the flowers just dying off or is there a problem, I have checked the roots and they are plump and green, the other thing is I keep finding a very fine tiny white cobweb on it, what should I do ? thanks in advance.
Rosemary457 Hi, maybe your Phal is a peloric orchid th-cam.com/video/A3HFQFYnuqY/w-d-xo.html if the flowers always looked closed, then it's a peloric and they will never open fully, but they are pretty nonetheless ;)
MissOrchidGirl Hi Danni, The flowers where wide open now they are closing and drooping, the ones that are above them are still wide open, They were supposed to last at least a month, but I have only had one for 2 weeks the other a little ove a week, Maybe there are insect in there that I can't see, as I keep finding fine white webs on the leaves, And now one of the leave has a hole that wasn't there before, I am' planning on removing the plants from their pots and repotting them in the same size pots just to change and put in fresh bark, Do think this a good idea as they are in flower at the momnent, or should I wait till the flowers dye back? Sorry for the long explaination,
Hi Danny, I have a phalaenopsis orchid I just bought in the store about 3 days ago. And so far it has been doing well. I watered it when the media is quite dry and drain excess water using paper towels from the bottom of the pot. But now I start to smell something from the media, which most probably means that the media is starting to break down. So, I'm thinking of repotting it. But the orchid is in bloom and one of the last bulbs is starting to bloom on me. So should I wait till the orchid is done blooming, or should I repot it ASAP? Thank you.
U probably have already gotten ur answer, but if it were mine, I would repot. Growers pack a peat moss mix in real tight, probably to protect the orchid once it leaves their grasp, in middle of the pot, b/c there usually isn't any ppl to water it in the store. I've repotted orchids while they were booming without a problem.
Danny my catt., vanda and my phals orchid will not rebloom , the plant grow bigger but will not bloom , i live in suriname -south america , we have a tropical klimaat , temp. In the morning 24 degree celcius and in the evenning 35 degree celcius , wat can be the problem?
Hi, not sure what orchid species it is and what you mean by branch, can I see a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram, imgur or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
+MissOrchidGirl my orchid is phalaenopsis aphrodites and a piece of the cane broke off. it's been about 4 weeks broken off now and the blooms on it are very firm and healthy. can I save this piece??
Hi, i love your videos ! i just want to ask whether its bad for begginers to grow paphiopedilum and cymbidium orchids as i am going to a flower exhibition next week and im planning on buying phals, paphs, oncidium and maybe one of the following : vanda, cattleya, cymbidium or another orchid that will fascinate me. The climate here in Greece is a little hot especially in the summer and mild to cool in the winter...Which of these would you recommend ?... :)
Draga Dana, am o prietena care tebuie sa nasca in curand. Adora orhideele, are o gramada de hibrizi Phalaenopsis.
+Maricor Sandig hello, well here is a cattleya care guide that I made hope this helps th-cam.com/video/QhIPWC3s1s0/w-d-xo.html not sure what you mean by dots, is it its coloring or fungal spots or a disease?
I have one fragrant phalaenopsis orchid, it's leaves are big and sturdy, just like a normal phalaenopsis, but the flowers are tiny, tiny and they are white, and have a little bit of pink on the lip, and it smells like heaven!!! the smell is so strong, so freakin brilliant!!! I love the smell of it :)
MissOrchidGirl Finally! I know the name of that orchid! it's the phalaenopsis shilliriana! What a beautiful phal she is :) And also, you are so pretty! No doubt everyone loves your videos! I love your videos :)
+Katherine Paulo Hi, no they don;t need to be potted tey can also be mounted, I refer here only to epiphyte orchids. The discussion is pretty lengthy, but if you are interested in mounting here is a video on it, it has 2 parts th-cam.com/video/W1goK2izgOE/w-d-xo.html
I know this an old video 12/14/14 on top beginner orchid, could you give me the name of the first orchid you spoke of . Cal.. or Kal... can't find it under my spelling . Thank you :)
I discovered something while watching your videos using a headset/headphones. I think I'm with you inside your balcony it's just because of the stereo quality of your audio. Just saying. ;)
Thank you the great tips! I started my orchids collection about 15 months ago (got my first one for Valentines) . Now, I have 25 orchids. I am in love with my orchids.
It’s been along time since u commented but how is your orchid collection still going?
Thanks for your videos! Very informative. I live on a Caribbean island and our humidity is above 70% all year round. Dendrobiums, phalaenopsis and cataleyas are available everywhere
Not so much for the oncidium orchids! But your videos provided so much info for me to start up my own little orchid garden!

Phals get huge. I have a couple
that couldn't squeeze into the
state of Arkansas.
I can see them very easily just by using a pair of binoculars I've heard you could also see them from space
I got a Cattleyas don’t bloom yet
Great video! Always learning something new and helps me give good care for my orchids :)
What is bud blast? I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you. I inherited different kinds of orchids, but I don’t know how to distinguish one from another. Can you help me?
Vivienne Holmes: It’s when flower buds form on a plant, but stressful conditions cause those buds to wither without blooming.
I wish I had watched this video earlier. It really helps!!!
Thanks for your tips!! I have killed so many Phals. :( However, I've had good success with oncidiums and been able to keep dendrobium orchids.
Hey Danny. There's a white Cattleya with magenta lip at 0:52 . Do you know the name?
Hi Dan! Newbie orchid grower here. I was just wondering what you meant by "bud blast" for the phal. And I love your videos. Very helpful on understanding orchids and discovering more through your teachings. :)

Such an informative video!!! I can't wait to add more orchids to my collection :-) Perhaps the small keiki I got is a Dendrobium Berry Oda!
it certainly looks like one ;)

at 3:34 what species of orchid do you have mounted on your wall? the one with the large root system hanging in the air, its impressive!
also how did you get it to grow up there
+Jessica Wallace Hi, it's just a Vanda hanging there :) I had her in a basket like this th-cam.com/video/0azzxh8CuOM/w-d-xo.html
Great information for us beginners! Thank you.
you're welcome :)
Great video, so informative. Thank you.
Hey, at 7:20, there's a light pink orchid at the back. What type is that?
Hi, that is a Wilsonara Calico Jem :) th-cam.com/video/Qvmwy41OC0A/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, it's a real Gem and it's name suits it perfectly!
Thank you Dani. This is so helpful.
Danni, what was that very last yellow and pink flower?
What's the name of the pink flower in 2:08 ?
Thank you. I did repot about 18/mos ago - but can try again. would a fungus infection be a possibility? I did spray with an organic (sulfur based) spray.

MissOrchidGirl Hi, Danny I want you to ask if is possible to grow two orchids, in fact two species of orchids, one cymbidium and one miltonia in the same pot?
what is bud blast?
Naturalicity we refer to falling of the buds prior to flowering as bud blast. Practically the bud dies and falls before it gets to open.
Thank you.
Hi Danny, please suggest me any orchid which is not picky about light (except phal)
Martina Novakova an easy to care for one is the Paphiopedilum, especially the Maudiae hybrids :)
MissOrchidGirl and except Paphs? I don´t admire its lip :)) But I hope, some day it will happen.:) I realized the more you are interested in orchids, the more you become delight with bizzared ones. :D have a nice day

MissOrchidGirl I adore much your knowledges :) thank you for all answers you give me these days :) your videos are so helpful, thank them I realized, that i have bought miltoniopsis not miltonia as it was marked :D
Martina Novakova oh yes there is a big difference, here is a more obvious comparison th-cam.com/video/GDfnG_nbE5Y/w-d-xo.html
Good video. Thank you.
Gardening at Douentza could you give me some watering advice for O.Brassia, and O. Cambria? Thankyou
Hi,
I'm a subscriber and have been following you for about 2 months now.
I live in Connecticut and would like to buy a Oncidium Orchids but can not find any here.
Can you please tell me a good on line source for buying an orchid like this?
Thanks,,,
Tom
(on south-west window)
What do you think?
I realy thank very much for your show
Hi Dani, just curious. If i use the leca/hydropons for my orchids, should they stay in about 2" water forever like the tropical plants, TYIA
A lot of websites say that paphiopedilum orchids are great beginner orchids. is there a reason you didn't include them in your list?
hi Ms.Danie just wanna ask about my dendros i planted it to a clay pot.they are heathy but has too many roots and over loaded already.is it ok to repot it and for sure need to cut some of the roots that are sticking in the pot.it is ok to cut it?what will i put after cutting to hell the roots?
Ms.Danie i mean phalsenopsis not dendro
Hi, I would just use a bigger pot. I personally don't think cutting roots is a good idea for the health of the orchid :)
I got 2 phalaenopsis orchid in my greenhouse but i am in Thailand but in my greenhouse has 30 ํc.ToT Thank you so much!
an you're welcome :)
Hi Dany, my father had obtained a plant that resembles a dendrobrium a year ago but it doesn't seem to be growing any leaves. We keep in low light as he instructed but the only things that seems to be growing are babies. Should I be worried that there is something wrong?
Hi I am thinking of buying a occidium globuliferum just wondered if you had herd of this orchid and what your thoughts where thank you
+Uk Bus Man I did hear of it but never owned it, so I am not sure how to care for it. But it looks pretty :P
Hi.. I’m in India... my temperature will be 28 to 32 degrees.. but I have a spacious and shaded balcony... east facing.. receives only morning direct sunlight.. can I give try with these orchids.. kindly do reply.. I just love gardening especially orchids are my dream plant to grow..
Dannie,I have a question😁As you can see the 2 large leaves are limp and a sm. 1 that is yellowing.Any suggestions?
Think I might be buying a different orchid soon Thanks
I realize this is 5 years+ later, but are vanilla orchids easy to care for? I know you added one a few years ago, but well after this video.
Can you put a list of the names of the orchids in your video?
Yes, include spelling of all these variations
Hey do you know the name of the first orchid you showed? It’s the yellow one with white lip. You also showed it at the end. I bought one at my local grocery store but didn’t come with a name.
Hi, you have the familly names in the description, but the actual ID I don't have :( it's a flower shop Cattleya.
Great tips
Hey is it ok to plant multiple phalaenopsis orchids in the same pot as long as there snug?
Hi James, it can work yes but the risk is that if one is diseased it could spread it to the others.
the dendrobium you showed, can you propogate the different stems?
+Anna Holt hello, yes you can by making a division. Here is a video I made on how I propagated a Cattleya, it should be pretty much the same for the dendrobium berry oda as well :) th-cam.com/video/1kACzEUoCfg/w-d-xo.html
Can cattleyas rebloom from old growths like dendrobium canes?
Funny, I've never had a phalaenopsis budblast, but I have had several types of oncodium orchids budblast on me.
Hay I just got a dendrobium it has a layer of green liking moss with this green thing looks like 4 leaf clover lol . What is it?
john walizada Hi, it could be a decorative plant, stores usually do this. But you can remove it I believe :)
Danni Great video!! I was wondering do you order all your oclear orchid containers or do you DIY some containers?
well I usually buy them from my garden center or online from a local store, but sometimes I use plastic cups for the smaller orchids. Whatever suits them I save and transform :) I make the sideholes myself though ;)
MissOrchidGirl thanks Danni !
Hi Danni, I have a serious problem, Both of my phals are now dropping there buds,
I haven't found any spider mites, but then again I'm old and my vision isn't that great so they could be there, and olny one of the plants is getting the webs, I am really worried that I will loose both these phals, My son has gotten back from buying new bark and plant feed and new pots, So I will repot them.
the jewel plant has a egg sack on top of the soil but I only just got this plant and its nowhere near the other plants
If you have any advise, I would greatly appriciate it, I did wipe the leave down with a micro fibre cloth but saw nothing should i spray them with hair spray? just in case , put them in water and just try water instead of bark to see if that works, PLEASE help I'm desperate, Thanks Rosemary
Hi Dani,
I'm a little late in viewing this video, but so glad I found you! I have a few Phalanopsis and am struggling with them so I've learned a lot from you already...Anyway, can you tell me the name again of the Dendrobium? I can't make out the second name you are saying. Sounds a bit like varioda? Thanks so much and really appreciate your videos!
Sharon
Hi Sharon, sorry about that, I will make sure to write the list in the description :) It is the Dendrobium Berry Oda :)
Nice video, very informative. What do you think about Zygopetalums? Many compare them to Oncidiums in terms of ease to grow, do you agree with this?
+Calle Nilsson well.. no :) I killed 4 zygos so far so I am still trying to figure out what is wrong :P but many people grow them easily :)
That sounds good to me! Having to wait a few years will just make it all the more rewarding :) Thanks for your reply! I really appreciate it!
i have this friend who Loves these flowers & to surprise her i was wanting to make some for her but i live in washington & have no green house. Got any ideas?
Hi Andy, you don't need a greenhouse for these orchids :) you can find very nice Phalaenopsis orchids at almost any big home improvement store or garden center. I think she will like a Phalaenopsis and will be a great first orchid as she is pretty forgiving :)
Hi Danny,
Which scented orchid would you recommend for beginners?
MissOrchidGirl Fantastic! I will definitely try a Cattleya soon. They look so beautifully colorful as well! :D
You have nice orchids there!
+Jee Lum thank you :D
What is the complete list of the 5 Orchids, I didn't see it listed in the description?? Thanks
Hi, these are: 5. Cattleya orchids, 4 Psychopsis orchids 3 Phalaenopsis orchids, 2 Dendrobium Berry Oda, 1 Oncidium orchids
Hi Danny, can you tell me where I can purchase fragrant orchids??
Well, Im not Danny, but online stores feature lots of fragrant orchids, though it'll be a hit and miss since you wont be able to determine if you like the scent prepurchase. In Europe you can buy orchids from Schwerter's and several other stores, in the U.S I think Akatsuka Gardens are your best bet. Several people sell orchids on Ebay and Amazon. Other than that, I'd suggest you contact your local garden center and ask them when they tend to have fragrant orchids in store. Good luck! :)
Very informative, thx
Hi, just search for my care tutorials and see if there's anything you are doing wrong, it's hard to tell without knowing the history of the orchids! 🧡
can I save a branch that broke off my orchid?? still has several spikes and beautiful blooms.
Hi, not sure what orchid species it is and what you mean by branch, can I see a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram, imgur or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
+MissOrchidGirl sent 2 photos on Instagram @ lrshelby when you request I will approve. thanks
Hi, just paste the link here please it's easier for me as I check my comments every day :)
+MissOrchidGirl my orchid is phalaenopsis aphrodites and a piece of the cane broke off. it's been about 4 weeks broken off now and the blooms on it are very firm and healthy. can I save this piece??
Hi, I think you mean flower spike? well if it snapped but the flowers are ok it might mean that it's still functional :)
Γιωργος Γλυκουλης Τελικα;
Draga Dana, am o prietena care tebuie sa nasca in curand. Adora orhideele, are o gramada de hibrizi Phalaenopsis.
What is bud blast
Cyndi's Green Oasis: It’s when a bud has formed, but stress causes it to wither/drop/die.
Do I need to use concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide or do I need to dilute it with water?
Grace Abad 3% Hydrogen Peroxide can be used as is anything higher should be diluted.
Hello Danny(am I spelling your name right?), may I know what's side branch for phalaenopsis? What does a year and half mean?
What do you mean by 1 and 1/2 years out of your orchid?
what is the size pot for Dendrobium ?
I have 4 Phals and I don't know what bud blast means,...you mention it quite a bit, please define on your next opportunity.
+alyokin Hi, I have a video about it here th-cam.com/video/wH9k2XuDNYE/w-d-xo.html hope it helps :)
Are those black dots on the leaves normal? :S
Where could one buy a dendrobium berry oda?
Hello Danny! Hiw can I share pic with you? I need your help I believe my orchids have a virus. Please and thank you
hi danny. how can i care for my catleya. mine has dark dots.
+Maricor Sandig hello, well here is a cattleya care guide that I made hope this helps th-cam.com/video/QhIPWC3s1s0/w-d-xo.html not sure what you mean by dots, is it its coloring or fungal spots or a disease?

JPowellCreative oh and the phal? that is very pretty!
From where will we get these orchids. We are from India.
Sorry I'm new at this thank you ☺
No worries :)

Lisa Whesper u should wait for the flower to fade before repotting
I have one fragrant phalaenopsis orchid, it's leaves are big and sturdy, just like a normal phalaenopsis, but the flowers are tiny, tiny and they are white, and have a little bit of pink on the lip, and it smells like heaven!!! the smell is so strong, so freakin brilliant!!! I love the smell of it :)
Hi that sounds great :D any name tag?
MissOrchidGirl actually no, because when I bought it on the tag said only "ORCHIDS" and nothing else :)
MissOrchidGirl Finally! I know the name of that orchid! it's the phalaenopsis shilliriana! What a beautiful phal she is :) And also, you are so pretty! No doubt everyone loves your videos! I love your videos :)
If I sent you pictures, can you identify them?
I got a Cattleyas that blooms yet
are all orchids need to be potted because mine is not potted
+Katherine Paulo Hi, no they don;t need to be potted tey can also be mounted, I refer here only to epiphyte orchids. The discussion is pretty lengthy, but if you are interested in mounting here is a video on it, it has 2 parts th-cam.com/video/W1goK2izgOE/w-d-xo.html
I have a 5 to 7 year old orchid that has bloomed twice. What is wrong?
Patricia Bridges nothing is wrong.
I know this an old video 12/14/14 on top beginner orchid, could you give me the name of the first orchid you spoke of . Cal.. or Kal... can't find it under my spelling . Thank you :)
Hi, sorry about that :D I am talking about the Cattleya orchids ;)

:D she is becoming one of my favs!
Most probably a good video :)
I discovered something while watching your videos using a headset/headphones. I think I'm with you inside your balcony it's just because of the stereo quality of your audio. Just saying. ;)
lol good, it means the camera works good :P
alrightie and of course without the speaker (you) it the results wouldn't be great! :)
