I once had a phalaenopsis orchid plant that quit blooming so I set it outside on a tree stump, out of it’s pot, with just it’s wood chips entwined. I did not pay it any attention for months, but when I did, I was in shock. It had grown so large and had 8-10 spikes in bloom. This was on the wet side of Maui at 500 feet elevation, with eastern exposure, temps 70 at night, 80+ in day. I guess you could say it had found its sweet spot.
I had a Cat for many years that did not bloom. I set it on a table in the back yard and forgot about it. My neighbor told me that he was amazed by the beautiful plant on the table in the back yard. There it was in full bloom; bright pink. Now I set plants outside in humid and hot summers here in MD.

I personally never cut a flower spike off. I let the plant decide what to do with it. Since it has taken energy to grow it and yes it takes energy to maintain it, the plant can also take the energy back from it by drying it out and using this energy to grow smt else. Sometimes it grows a new flower spike from the enrgy, sometimes it regrows from another spot of the spike and sometimes it dries the spike half way and grows another spike from the old one, I only cut off the dried part. And even that has happened that the old spike regrows blooms without growing a new stem after taking a little resting time. In the time I've had my phaleanopsis I've had it bloom multiple times in the year but I've only ever had 3 separate stems. One is inactive now, and one is blooming again. And regrowth activity on the last stem which is half way dried and cut. By cutting a stem it would take forever for the plant to grow a suitable space for a new stem to form from the base.

Its grown well vegetatively during its growing season and now its shooting out 2 flower spikes to my surprise. I initially thought they were roots. I am excited to see what she looks like this year with a double spike. Thank you for your informative and educational videos, they are simple to follow and understand and very effective. Thanks
You mentioned that sometimes a bud may produce a new plant. I have a spent spike that has two new plants growing. How do I separate these pups from the spike? I look forward to your advice.
I bought an orchid reduced in the shop and sold ina bag. Still has all but one of its flowers.... and since, following your methods it has sprouted two spikes off the flower stem and a third one from the bottom! Amazing! On another note... last week I went to buy it a new pot and the lady there asked how I care for it then told me off for doing it all wrong. Haha
How do you train the flower spikes grow up straight? I had one that grew sideways and the flowers were soooo heavy it knocked the pot over. I had to create supports to hold it up and relieve weight so it didnt knock pot over or lift plant out of pot. I may have over fertilized and made too beefy a spike 🤣 it had so many flowers though and it was gorgeous.
That’s so crazy! I learned that when growing bulb plants like for example daffodils, many people fold and tie down or braid the leaves after the bloom dies because the bulb absorbs that remaining energy to bloom again.. But according to this video orchids don’t seem to work like that where the orchid would benefit from the remaining energy of a remaining flower stem..
Please don't get frustrated with the dove singing Danny ahaha it's just beautifully compliments the relaxing orchid world, so it's only adding a bonus ;) I personally love it, no need to stop just let them sing through ahaha

So glad I found your channel!! I have a mini Phalaenopsis, and it still has 2 blooms on it and a new spike is coming out. I was shocked when I noticed it today.
i'm finally learning about # of leaves to flower spikes. i have one plant in particular that had two spikes and some blooms. we moved from an apartment with very little sun to a really sunny house and wow did this plant grow the double spikes. not only did i get the two spikes, it gave me extended spikes w in the spike and over 42 blooms! almost all of my other plants are single spike plants, but even a few are giving multiple mini spikes within the single spike due to better sun.
Wah, my minis got brown leaves being in the sun in the morning... happier off the windowsill, now in a colder room hoping the temp drop will encourage a spike...lots of leaves and roots this summer with garlic/rice water, but no spike signs yet...

But according to this video orchids don’t seem to work like that where the orchid would benefit from the remaining energy of a remaining flower stem..
Thank you so much... I have two phalanx , both of which have single spikes developing. .... exciting !
I really love your videos! They are so interesting and helpful. And your dove is soooo adorable 😍😍😍
Please don't get frustrated with the dove singing Danny ahaha it's just beautifully compliments the relaxing orchid world, so it's only adding a bonus ;) I personally love it, no need to stop just let them sing through ahaha
I definitely agree !!
She likes to hear herself talk to much.
Your birds are beautiful 💕
Beautiful birds 😃
My orchid hasn’t produced any flowers for the last 3yrs🥺 It has healthy leaves and roots but no flowers. I keep it by the window so it can get natural light. I repotted it and fertilize it not long ago. It’s exploding with roots now, but no flowers!!!
Thank you for all the details, I find it really helpful and interesting. Also I love listening to you speak, very soothing voice x
that bird is stunning!
Hi there, how are you? May I ask what's the medium you use, and generally in different orchids. Thank you for sharing your video/ideas. Very beautiful voice, greetings from Trinidad 🇹🇹. God bless you 🙏💕

Hi there, I just found you on You Tube. I love your videos, they're so informative! And your Orchids & Dove are so beautiful! 😍 Thank you for all your helpful knowledge! 🤗 I subscribed and look forward to your future videos.
I'm moving in a week into a new home and my orchid is in the process of growing two flower spikes. Do you have any tips for moving my plant? I'll be physically carrying it into the new house so I'm not concerned about the physical move, but more so acclimation.
I wish that you can share how to handle baby orchid. Thank you in advance 🥰
Two leaves down = possible flower spike spot. Thank you for good info!
I so enjoy your channel. Thank you for the excellent instruction. Would you be willing to help me know how to properly care for a new orchid I purchased from an orchid show in Richmond, Virginia?
So glad I found your channel!! I have a mini Phalaenopsis, and it still has 2 blooms on it and a new spike is coming out. I was shocked when I noticed it today.
My orchid has a twin coming up on a air spike, how do I take care of that? the twin doesn't have roots but can I give it a live on it's own?
Happy new year MissOrchidGirl 🐦
i'm finally learning about # of leaves to flower spikes. i have one plant in particular that had two spikes and some blooms. we moved from an apartment with very little sun to a really sunny house and wow did this plant grow the double spikes. not only did i get the two spikes, it gave me extended spikes w in the spike and over 42 blooms! almost all of my other plants are single spike plants, but even a few are giving multiple mini spikes within the single spike due to better sun.
P
Wah, my minis got brown leaves being in the sun in the morning... happier off the windowsill, now in a colder room hoping the temp drop will encourage a spike...lots of leaves and roots this summer with garlic/rice water, but no spike signs yet...
Great detailed information about the flower spikes, not heard before !
You have beautiful hands, cute voice and impart great information. Thank you for the shared wisdom.
I totally agree with you about summer blooming phals...I have a bellina with two flower spikes but one is not "active" I guess is a way to explain it.
Your leaves are so shiny. When I water my orchids I rinse the leaves off but they don't look as good as yours! What's the tip?
Very beautiful flowers
Your dove is beautiful. I'm in FL and I have double spikes on multiple plants. Plus I left the old spike and they are reblooming. Every plant has spikes too. So exciting. I must be doing something right! Thanks for the advice.
I like leaving the stem so I can allow the plant to grow baby orchids.
