    I remember wanting one because of the frigging DSP they've build in the only homecomputer having one.

    Thanks! This was just a quick video prior to sadly having to sell it, but I took the opportunity to show a recently released game from 2011 and 2009, although the latter game was written for the STE range and does not take advantage of the Falcon's hardware abilities. I wanted to also show Cubase Audio in action but I had sold the audio hardware for that a few days previous to this video. I had two Falcons in all and absolutely loved them to bits; very powerful and underrated computers. :-)

    I always fancied one of these, even though I had an Amiga :) I was very impressed by the specs.

    Sony Trinitron Multiscan 210ES and works superbly with Atari STE and Falcon 030 computers etc....really beautiful image and better than LCD, especially for proper colour and framerate.

      Hi, I don't know if this will resonate after 9 years, but have to ask: Can you confirm that this monitor is able to display 15khz modes, for ex. MedRes from STE? Or did you mean HiRes, which runs at 72hz rate?

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mnxnm I had my STE connected to this Sony via a Supera Color HD video convertor box, using a popular Atari switch box accessory by Practical Solutions called Monitor Master. From that it connected to the Supera via Atari DIN to SCART cable and a couple of SCART adapters, and to the Supera S-Video input. The STE medium resolution was nice with no missing pixels or bad lines etc.
      For monochrome I just used my Atari SM124 monitor, although I also used the Supera through an old CTX 19" LCD and Atari monochrome was fine on that, but the Sony was better compatibility wise than the LCD, which would not work at all without using the Supera, due to the 15kHz issue. There is probably a clone of the Supera knocking around the various Chinese marketplaces like aliexpress, deal extreme or banggood etc. th-cam.com/video/EtMnVtFPDZ8/w-d-xo.html
      Prior to getting the Supera, I tried a Gamars V-Box (MV-888) which worked on the Sony, but not on the CTX LCD. The V-Box shows 15.75 khz input frequency on the packaging.

    I still have one with the original packaging. Started making music with it back in 2001 (Cubase dongal, best clock at the time)

    29:05 That system date is messed up! But fantastic setup and nice games. I own a TT030 and a Jaguar.

      @EgoShredder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did get hold of some Dallas chips to correct this, but never got around to fitting them. Wow now a TT030 is possibly the ultimate system, and I would have loved that for my Steinberg Cubase setup in the 1990s / early 2000s.

  • @EgoShredder

    I do have a couple of video capture devices connected but due to circumstances, I used my Panasonic DMC-FZ150 camera. The main reason is that I was selling it on Ebay and I no longer own it. I had two Falcons 030 but needed the money and sold them during a seven month period, along with many rare and expensive addons. Ahh well it was lovely owning them...

    I have to admit, it's quite nice to see a Falcon. I think I had jump shipped by this point from the Atari stuff to a Philips CD-i if you can believe that...
    ...I would've loved to see what else you could've run on this. Good video!

    The only part of the MIDEX+ that functions is the cartridge ports for the various Steinberg dongles. The MIDI features etc do not work with the Falcon 030. The ultimate setup for MIDI would be the MEGA STE or TT 030, because you can add both a MIDEX+ and SMP24 / II to have a HUGE amount of MIDI I/O with solid timing and control.

    The desktop resolution looks the same as Atari ST! Can it do a higher one?

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The r0x game is an STE game so understandably lower resolution. The Downfall game should be higher res though.

    • @Storm_.
      @Storm_. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is because he was running it in ST compatible high res mono mode. He could run it in 640x480 colour if he wanted to.

    Hi
    I also have a Falcon.
    I have a Midex+ but thought that would not work on the Falcon due to different bus design.
    Can you confir that Midex+ really work with Falcon 030?
    Cheers

    I had Falcon 030 myself when I was a kid. At the time, ATARI went out of electronics business and there was difficulty getting software for Falcon. How do you run PC games on Falcon?? What you need to run them on Falcon? Who does all modifications? Is there Falcon or ATARI fan club? Is there good website about them??

    Go and register at the atari forum dot com website and everything you wish to know is there. In this video I made a CDR disc with the Downfall game on; I then used the SCSI CD writer on the Falcon to transfer the files and folders of the game onto the Falcon IDE hard drive.
    The first time I saw a Falcon up close was in 1992 at a music recording studio near where I live. The owner got rid of it within a few months and returned to using his Atari ST! Cubase Audio was not stable in 1992.

    Oh and my friend has a Philips CDi the 470 model I think and it has the MPEG video board installed. We used to use a PC to make VideoCD discs to watch on the CDi player; we also played various games on it and used it as a nice little HiFi player.

    I cannot remember when the last update v2.06 came out but I think it was mid 1990s, although possibly a v2.07 exists but is very buggy (would need to check that info).

    While I do like the colour changes to the ST/STE case, the Falcon needed a new case design of its own to 'speak' for it.

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been away from the scene for about three years now, so not sure of the best source for games that work best etc. Anyway one source is from the TOSEC project and I would use 7-zip to unpack, or just use the torrent file to get everything with your torrent client.

      I use hatari emulator. Until I can get a "deal". On some atari hardware. I'm thinking in line with Firebee or MiST. For now hatari does the job.

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Eddie Yeah shame I could not demo this to the best it can do, because I was getting it ready to sell on Ebay and did not have much time. Also my mum was seriously ill and in danger of dying, so I had to focus all my time and efforts on her. She is still alive today but trapped in a care home, which we want to get her out of ASAP.

    I heard that Steingberg stopped supporting cubase immediatelly when Atari went bancrupt, so Steinberg immediatelly stopped developing cubase. That's what I heard.

      This was only a video to show my potential Ebay buyers that it was fully working. This is not a gaming video or anything for entertainment purposes, but I thought I would share it anyway as I know some people like to see content of these machines in action.

    The emulators now days for amiga and atari on a modern pc are better than the original. Personally I think the amiga 4000t is better but cool to see some of this old hardware still working.

    • @madigorfkgoogle9349
      @madigorfkgoogle9349 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      its 2022 almost 23, there is still no PC with emulator which can emulate the DSP56001 and Falcon to 100%. I wish I had Amiga 4000T in my collection, but it is no way better then Falcon, by any stretch.

  • @amigawarez6795

    Always wanted a Falcon but it never really took off in the USA. I had Amiga's then went to the PC.

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here in England the Falcon seemed to be aimed more at professional music producers and studio owners, right up until the mid to late 1990s. After that the whole "studio-in-a-box" approach was mis-sold to the public, when the PC hardware was woefully underpowered and would be until around 2005, when Intel Core processors came out.

  • @syncmaster732nplus
    @syncmaster732nplus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    to make your Atari falcon 030 sounds better you just have to download the MIDI software
    so your game play sounds would be better

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I could have hooked it up to one of my Yamaha MU100R modules, and maybe put that in the equivalent Roland MT32 mode.

    • @EgoShredder

      True but I was mainly interested in using Steinberg Cubase Audio and so using TOS meant a nice lean, clean system that ran faster etc.

    • @obsoletepowercorrupts
      @obsoletepowercorrupts 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Amiga Warez, You make a good point there. The amiga not only outsold but even had massive price drops at the end. Even though a lot of that was "strategy change" since the company was going under, it does however recategorise the comparison shopping customers would have done. And after all it is *customers* who decide what products to choose from in the "platform competition" in their mind (not companies). If a new a1200 went for £200 or £250 (which they did at the end), they could be better compared to an ST (and therefore "win"). I do think however that retroactivley, categorising "winners" is pointless, but what can be learned is the crucial part. Basically with that much price "wiggle room" (from £400 to £200 price drop) the a1200 could have been more (or be remade today) with two akiko chips, two 4bit blitters (or even another 8bit blitter), two CPUs of 68030 at 16MHz, and two FPUs (68882 or 68881) at 12.5MHz or 20MHz. Never mind the hombre and all that. A PCI slot on it could come for that (or the cybervision64/3D) later.

      @Cthulhu1970 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I was thinking. The 16-bit sound was nice though, but even with a fairly basic accelerator the A1200 was still a far better, and more flexible machine.

    • @yukatoshi
      @yukatoshi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol, no joke. Better CPU, FPU socket, 8 channel sound, chunky pixel capable GPU, an HD floppy etc. The stock A1200 sucks.

      @EgoShredder  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BAZFANSHOTHITS I think this is the noise from the tower cooling fans, as nothing else was running in the house at the time. Also I did not have my external stereo microphone attached to my camera, so had to use the onboard stereo mics which sometimes pick up noise from the camera itself. The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 which is a great camera.
