There's a Mullen interview with Tony Hawk where he talks about when he set about relearning all his tricks in switch. He says something to the effect that he started questioning the endeavor, "Does anyone care if I can do rail flips in switch? Including me?" Jonny cares, Rodney.
I replied to someone this fact but couldn't remember where i saw it or if i saw it at all i think he said when everyone started skating street and switch he skated nothing but switch but i thought he meant he was goofy natural and switched stances to regular. But as i read this comment this was definitely the same thing i saw I'm going to rewatch it lol.
I had the honor to meet and chat with Rodney with other day. I told him how incredible it is that, to this day, people are still learning his tricks. I mentioned you and he was so stoked. Said he loves what you’re doing and you’ve got incredible flick. Much love!
It was kinda nice watching you fail. Don't mean that badly it's just that all the impossible tricks of rodney you've made possible. Even though we skate on a very very different level it's nice to be reminded from time to time that talented people like you also battle failure. Love what you're doing Jonny keep it up!
I love how these videos are so well edited and have such cool background scenery and chill music. It really adds so much to the quality of these videos.
i think its awesome that you're doing Rodney the honor of even pulling off some of these tricks. I have been a follower of rodney since the early 1980"s ( yea im an old mother truckster) Its still really cool to see young bloods keeping his legend alive.
back in the day I thought mullen was in a different level , but after 20 years learning that now he did some of his stuff switch , when switch wasn't that big a deal . god tier
When you see the rodney clip and immediately think "oh Jonny you poor soul :/ " even attempting this one is s+ tier. You're my favorite modern skater. Keep going.
Had my first big slam today and blew out my knee. I've only been skating for 5 months and I have never been less motivated in my life, but watching your videos has made me wanna get back on my board asap. Thanks Jonny.
AWESOME CHANNEL !!! I don't even skateboard but I do enjoy seeing you try Rodney Mullen's bag of tricks !!! Awesome !!! Thank you for the content & amazing skateboarding!!!
I remember learning a bunch of these primo flips in 2004-5 after watching some Rodney Mullen videos. Dont think I ever got the switch triple varial though. Keep up the good work, these are my favorite videos to watch cause I can relate so well to learning them. lol
Not to tell a pro how to street, but what makes Rodney look so effortless is the softness to his landings. More flex in the legs definitely helps with the sketch of his “impossible tricks”. ...I digress. Great vid like always, bother. Keep thrashing
oh man that "it's actually switch" moment was indeed hilarious XD (well maybe not for you when you realized it!). The challenge took a sudden and huge step up!!
To quote Rodney himself: "Is there a switch when riding switch?"...or something like that.....Which to me means, the guy is so into it, he doesn't even tell left to right, nose to tail OR if he is even on a skateboard...Thank you Jonny for sharing these: 1. A proof you are a hell of a skateboarder 2. Remind the youth that Skateboarding was at some point literally "imagined" (not even invented) as a whole from an alien.
Risers might help you with primo tricks. Two reasons: the board will have a wider stance to land and balance in primo (probably the biggest advantage), and it will give you more flip precision for 1/4 flips because it would increase centrifugal force. Not a big fan of skating with them personally, but could be useful for a primo board setup.
Casper slide to 360 flip. The single craziest thing I ever seen anyone do on a skateboard, boggled my mind since I was 13. It's going to be decades before we see that trick again. Rodney himself said it is the hardest thing he ever did.
i find it interesting with how many tricks there r to learn, someone highly skilled can not kno how to do a trick and then struggle to learn it, while someone new to skating can have that same trick down. a rail flip was one of the first ever tricks i learned when starting out and i sucked. so its weird to see someone as good as him struggle to land one
When you lock into primo...bend your knees...it helps for balance...and keeps you from leaning forward...i learned this from watching mullen videos...if youll notice he does exactly the same...
4:51 "They fed me on cornbread and cheese. They fed me on cornbread and cheese. They fed me on cornbread and cheese oh lord and I ain't gonna be treated this-a-way."
omg the best video yet. the sorrow in your eyes when you noticed it was switch is hilarious. omg difficulty rating 2,967,030 lmao lmao omg i love these videos.
dude, if you get frustrated after what you've done try being me for 1 day! You got upset at that half cab kickflip and I would be on top of the world if I managed to do something like that! Excellent video, love the series!
Super hard? It's not supposed to be possible. How about doing it to primoslide and then the rail flip out? Just kidding. Amazingly done mr. Giger, your really pushing your limits. Sick, really sick!
Checking back on RM's video, I'd say his board is narrower than yours, therefore lighter, plus the wheels seem to match that width exactly, which would help the balance once you've landed on the rail. Just my thoughts is all.
I thought you would do this first try because you land primo all the damn time. Ha, the one time you want the primo it is a battle. Nice work as always.
Johnny, rail flips are much easier if you are using a freestyle deck. I find that the modern concave of street deck for some reason makes the trick more difficult and awkward than it should be. Though Rodney is using a street deck in opinion...
If you use offset wheels mate would make it easier I think🤔 love what your doing jonny nobody else has come close to be as good as mullen! Except you an Alex👍👌🤘🙏
Not because a video is grainy it gives you the right to redo or update it. The greatness of things comes from its original time. No amount of clarity in the present videos can duplicate the greatness of what Rodney Mullin during his time.
you need a freestyle board Jonny. you'd have nailed it within 10 tries. the rail flip is the easiest part! you just need more stability and a different shaped nose and tail
Practice the “flip out” trick first so you have that down & then give it a go... that way once you get in the primo stall you know what to do. Just a thought. Maybe you did that already...Idk 😃🛹👍

Waa so cool
Where does Rodney live?
Is he still in Cali?
@Cam Rocket Oh, yeah? What were you doing when you were talking to him, urinating in public? Creep.
Get him on the channel Jonny!
Hahaha I was waiting for you to realize that it was switch. Not disappointed
When you want to know if it's a normal or a double flip and you actually learn that it's a switch triple varial
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It was kinda nice watching you fail. Don't mean that badly it's just that all the impossible tricks of rodney you've made possible. Even though we skate on a very very different level it's nice to be reminded from time to time that talented people like you also battle failure. Love what you're doing Jonny keep it up!
"Uh, so actually it was in switch"
Omg my sides, best plot twist ever.
Now I gotta go wipe the orange juice I was drinking off my screen.
HAHAHAHA, i did the same thing, but with grape Fanta. HAHAHAHHA, and also the triple varial, hahaha
The best part were the difficulty calculations lmao
HAHAHAHAHAHA I DIEDDDD
Don't give up! If Rodney pulled it off, it's not impossible. Love this series!
Nicholas Colicchio
But is / or was there anything he can’t do though given Rodney is one of the godfathers of skateboarding
Yes it is.
Yes it is. If Jesus could walk on the water that doesn't mean you can. All praise the Lord Rodney, amen.
Nah. This is actually impossible without practicing it for months or maybe years on end
So Rodney can turn any normal board to grip tape?
I love how these videos are so well edited and have such cool background scenery and chill music. It really adds so much to the quality of these videos.

Let's try that nose manny flip to primo slide on two picknick tables next :P Mullen must be an alien or something...
That's probably what he was doing when he would jus disappear practice for hours on hours
I love how you try to do those "Impossible tricks", good luck for the next try!!
back in the day I thought mullen was in a different level , but after 20 years learning that now he did some of his stuff switch , when switch wasn't that big a deal . god tier

Found this series today, so effing glad I did. And so glad you’re still uploading clips. Thought there was only 10 episodes but found 11 and 12 🤤
Had my first big slam today and blew out my knee. I've only been skating for 5 months and I have never been less motivated in my life, but watching your videos has made me wanna get back on my board asap. Thanks Jonny.
Mullen is actually insane!!🔥
I've been able to get my wife into skateboard videos just by showing her this series. She loves seeing how you learn the tricks. Thanks Giger!
hahahaha laughed my ass off! ...
The defeated music was just too much hilarious! Lol
Lmao 🤣🤣
7:16 This dude (left) is the best magician there is....
And then he's the best magician that isn't !!
Omg shit up 🤣
AWESOME CHANNEL !!! I don't even skateboard but I do enjoy seeing you try Rodney Mullen's bag of tricks !!! Awesome !!! Thank you for the content & amazing skateboarding!!!

Bruh, throwing in the most complexly sad prelude from Chopin. Too funny
Not to tell a pro how to street, but what makes Rodney look so effortless is the softness to his landings. More flex in the legs definitely helps with the sketch of his “impossible tricks”. ...I digress. Great vid like always, bother. Keep thrashing
I speak for all when I say that we need to see you land the switch triple version!! We know you can, please! Keep it up I love this series!
oh man that "it's actually switch" moment was indeed hilarious XD (well maybe not for you when you realized it!). The challenge took a sudden and huge step up!!

I really enjoied those tricks Rodney was doing at the beginning.
Dude, amazing music in all your videos, Django, Tarrega....you know your music 🤘🏻
LMAO The music at 'switch'
Jonny you should do an entire series where you learn freestyle tricks. That would be tight. Always great content dude.
Switch triple rail flip?
Rodney really is superhuman.
Risers might help you with primo tricks. Dario is love, Dario is life
Casper slide to 360 flip. The single craziest thing I ever seen anyone do on a skateboard, boggled my mind since I was 13. It's going to be decades before we see that trick again. Rodney himself said it is the hardest thing he ever did.
Imagine how much all the cctv footage would sell for of rodney learning tricks in parking lots
LMAO at the music change when you realized what he actually did :D xD Awesome Vid, you got mad skillz!!
i find it interesting with how many tricks there r to learn, someone highly skilled can not kno how to do a trick and then struggle to learn it, while someone new to skating can have that same trick down. a rail flip was one of the first ever tricks i learned when starting out and i sucked. so its weird to see someone as good as him struggle to land one
This vid is even funnier than the last one lmao great stuff
What an insane trick! The first part is crazy enough.
When you lock into primo...bend your knees...it helps for balance...and keeps you from leaning forward...i learned this from watching mullen videos...if youll notice he does exactly the same...

"They fed me on cornbread and cheese.
They fed me on cornbread and cheese.
They fed me on cornbread and cheese oh lord and I ain't gonna be treated this-a-way."
Such a cool trick...but it must be soooo hard to master! :O
Ładne
omg the best video yet. the sorrow in your eyes when you noticed it was switch is hilarious. omg difficulty rating 2,967,030 lmao lmao omg i love these videos.
I guess Rodney Mullen could pull out that trick in every game of S.K.A.T.E.
We gotta see this one through!! I loved the video.
Your face when you realize it's switch. Gold :D
Practice leads to perfection Jonny, remember that.
You can do it. We believe in you.
But that nbd at the end, very nice surprise!!
PRIMO IS MOVING, RAIL IS STATIONARY
Hahahahahahaha the best episode out of all the “IPTBRM” hahaha this ur me dying omg
Another great episode! Thanks Jonny 😎🇿🇦
dude, if you get frustrated after what you've done try being me for 1 day!
You got upset at that half cab kickflip and I would be on top of the world if I managed to do something like that!

"Super grounded flat ground" haha Swiss/Aussie fan
rodney is just insane
It's actually switch varial triple. Lmfao. That moment he realized that trick was 15 times harder than he thought
war da Herr Reinsch im Hintergrund?! Mehrfach ;)
I'd like to see a primo trick at BATB :D :D
carlos pereira vazquez imagine spamming flips into primo slides lol
@@Jonathan-ih9sm I was actualy thinking that al those rail stalls should be converted into primo slides
The first one to do it gets their name in the rules!!
I will forever call it "primo"
Mullen is a Monster :D
im laughing my ass off at this... rodney is a god... its comical the impossible combinations he did
Liked for the Gypsy Jazz.
Checking back on RM's video, I'd say his board is narrower than yours, therefore lighter, plus the wheels seem to match that width exactly, which would help the balance once you've landed on the rail.
Just my thoughts is all.
it must feel so wrong aiming for a quarter rotation :-) Nice Chopin btw
I thought you would do this first try because you land primo all the damn time. Ha, the one time you want the primo it is a battle. Nice work as always.
Hey Jonny, great music on this one! ..tricks are aweful though... xD just kiddin' *thumbs up*
Goofy or regular, but we all dream of switch! So sick Jonny. Keep trying dude. Swiss/Aussie Fan
crushing piano....
you got this Jonny!
I died when he said it was actually switch 😂

Where are u from? I noticed your skate parks have amazing mountains behind them
Title idea " Rodney Mullen's Impossible Tricks?!"
I think the secret is very baggy trousers...
Wiedermal ein geiles Video und danke für die Sticker 👍
IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!!!
May be easier if you use a more narrow freestyle board instead of a regular width street deck.
This might be the funniest video 😂
practicing it to primo is the work of a madman. lol.
you need a freestyle board Jonny. you'd have nailed it within 10 tries. the rail flip is the easiest part! you just need more stability and a different shaped nose and tail
As a Freestyler i can tell you that its not "Rail Stall" as well, its "Railstand" 😏
I wanna see The impossible late varial flip on flat. Have u ever seen anyone else doing?
Practice the “flip out” trick first so you have that down & then give it a go... that way once you get in the primo stall you know what to do. Just a thought. Maybe you did that already...Idk 😃🛹👍
..it's switch and doubleflip
Top mano #Brasil
if I has 9 spare ankles I still wouldn't go near that.
So to summarize.....Mullen is the sht
Jonny, how many bones have you broken since you started skating?
Namaste all the way
What is the piano song called at 05:20?
Hi you should try the berrics!
Accidentally lands 14 half cabs in a row...... Y U NO PRIMO! 😤
I wanna see the 360 fingerflip!
Maybe try using a full freestyle board set up. Could reduce your difficulty level by 0.0015% ?
mission failed we'll get em next time
Namaste 🙏
Dude u rule and i like ur moustache too!!!
