The NFL Team That Mastered Heartbreak: The Constant Disappointment Of The San Francisco 49ers...

- The San Francisco 49ers as an NFL franchise have been extremely successful, but in more recent years, it's been a whole nother story. Although they've been able to make the Super Bowl behind both Kyle Shanahan and Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers have never been able to win it all. So join me as we dive into the many factors that came together in the last 15 years that have led to some of the best players of all time retiring from the NFL without a Super Bowl ring, and how the 49ers have mastered the art of heartbreak. Anyway, if you enjoyed this video at all then like and comment if you want, and you can even subscribe if you think I've earned it.
With the San Francisco 49ers losing Super Bowl 58 to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, we saw people such as Mikerphone and Thatsgoddsports cover the game and give their input. Other NFL documentaries will eventually be made on this subject to explore other football stories NFL teams like the 49ers have to tell, and the various NFL news that comes with it.

Since thier last Super Bowl win the Niners have either been utter dogshit or agonizingly close to winning another Lombardi. It’s insane
In the past decade it’s been a mix of both
could have had 8 right now
Those pathetic 49ers just don't know how to finish games and behind the scenes drama is worse than the Cowgirls.
From late 90’s to early 2010’s, whiners were the worse team of the decade
@@yahcrack your team was probably worse
A 49er fan all of my 18 years, the amount of both joy and pain given to me by this one team is enough to make a grown man cry
You tell me. I really thought this season was the one and the fumble happened and I looked like that one shell shocked ww2 soldier meme. It’s our fate as 49ers fans I guess.
47 years in for me…..lots of joy. Lots of pain
Last year with everyone. Now or never
As a jets fan, you have no right and you don’t know pain
Try being a bills fan.
If you want a taste of how much Jim Harbaugh meant to the 49ers organization, check how many players left the team in the 2015 offseason. Trent Baalke truly is one of the most cancerous GM’s in the league.
And now, the Jaguars are about to feel that pain.
Meant*?
@@manzac112huh? How?
@@manzac112balkee should have been fired with urban Meyer
players were already getting tired of Harbaugh. Ask Alex Boone.
Didn’t even get sad at the last SB loss I just sat in silence then left the bar 😂 being a 49ers fan is a loyalty litmus test
Sounds similar to being a Bruins fan lol
As a jets fan let me say that you have no idea what loyalty litmus test even looks like
Once it was confirmed that t swift would be able to make the sb, I just knew the chiefs would win.
Nfl seems to be changing into the wwf where drama and storylines are better than the game itself.
Try being a fan of any Philly team…it’s heartbreaking😂😂
I did the same shit. I sat there staring at the screen as everyone left, my friends walked out of the bar. Stayed like 5-10 minutes just staring, got my jacket and got up and left. Couldn’t believe it… again.
49ers since 2011 have to be among the unluckiest teams of all time. Not only squandering numerous chances to win a Super Bowl but also seeing TWO division rivals win titles.
They deserve a place alongside the 70s Vikings and 90s Bills.
We haven’t lost 4 superbowls back to back to back to back.
Huge stretch here lol
@@MWEwrestlingMFLfootball One loss down, three more to go!
@MWEwrestlingMFLfootball if the 49ers miraculously returns to the next super bowl, this is end for them. 4th time is still not broken. Bills and Vikings fans knew well how it went and now the 49ers are next for the worst to come. I'm infuriated and panicking
@@eliezerr111 It is much better not to go to the SB than to lose the SB. Strange but true

At least Steelers have won twice millennium
The won in 79 and didn't win another until 05. Not exactly consistent success.
@@mattwallace2221 that’s what 26 years? It’s about to be 30 for the niners. They’re definitely due for another win

The steelers are fine I was just busting balls because pit and gb have been 2nd and 3rd overall the last 30 yrs yet steelers fans act how the browns fans should. OH, we went 11-5 and lost the divisional round, when will are torment ever end type fans.
Oh my God please don't get me started bro. I was about to write this same comment. The whole 2010's pissed me off and the 2020-s are doing the same thing. If Ben Rothlisberger had any defense at all from 2013 to probably 2018 the Steelers would have two more Super Bowls right now.

@@rishijagtap8593 as a lions fan it has no mercy😅
I was born in 2001 in the north bay of sf, and honestly as much as this team has hurt me, I’d rather have this team then never be a contender. Love the 49ers, even with all the games in the playoffs being heart attacks
I'm a raiders fan and although in the nfl all I feel as a fan is pain, in the nba I'm a Lakers fan so I kinda get what you mean. The lakers have 17 championships and have won a lot. Even though we lose heartbreakers I'm still pretty satisfied being a contender and having a great team rather than them be terrible.
After my Lions lost in the Championship game some naysayers tried calling us the Same Old Lions, which is kinda wild for us older fans. Like you said, “Haha, you’re a contender” isn’t really hurting our feelings, ya know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They rip my heart to pieces. Every. Single. Year.
Even tho we lost against the ravens i had 100% confidence we'd be back so it didnt hurt as much. Then after the painful rebuild and downward spiral.Losing in Superbowl 54 hurt but not that much cuz we were trash for so long. But this...this year Superbowl 58 broke me.I really thought this was the year and Kyle Shanahan learned from the last one but nope.Absolutely brutal
You guys had the most stacked roster for a ring in a decade not just once, but TWICE. If that isn't absolute sheer heartbreak then I don't know what i. You don't come across stacked rosters and chances like the 49ers have and no rings to show for it....Pure ouch
Wow, we're only 1/4 in and already crushing the souls of 49ers fans.
Smh as a Cardinals fan this is so tame, we need a vid😂
As a 49ers fan I will say Larry Fitzgerald deserved a ring.
As someone who lived in AZ for 15 years, I am sorry to say that the Cardinals aren't interesting enough for an hour long video. 15 minutes would be pushing it.

This is just my entire 49ers fan life in one vid started watching when I was in 5th grade when they lost the 2012 superbowl. All us 20 something year old niners fans have only seen greatest and failure on the highest scale. Still been a fun ride we could have 3 sbs but we have none😂
As a Rams fan, I’m still so glad that Jaquaski Tart dropped that INT in the NFC Championship 😂
Shanahan is a failure and will continue to do so
As a Ravens fan, seeing the 49ers do the SAME SHIT WE DID in the SB was actually painful. I wanna see the Chiefs get run over by Derrick Henry in Week 1 next season after the Chiefs' playoff run.
Mahomes owns Lamar
Derrick Henry spoiling KCs banner drop would be glorious
Wouldn’t matter at all. They lost to the Lions last season opener and how did that turn out? 💥💥💥
i was having a good day tubfrog, why u gotta do this to me
I just like how we went from Willis and Bowman to Warner and Greenlaw in the span of 4 seasons
It’s all fun and games until he makes a video about your favorite team 😢
The biggest question to wonder is what's more painful, being a Cowboys or 49ers fan. The Cowboys haven't won in 29 years and have reached the playoffs 13 times since their last title but without a conference championship appearance. Meanwhile the 49ers have made 7 NFC Championships and 3 Super Bowls since 2011 but have come away empty handed every time and haven't won in 30 years. They will most likely be a top 3 team again in 2024 but then could also match the Vikings, Broncos, and Bills for the only teams to lose 4 Super Bowls in a row. It makes sense why the Cowboys get more attention because of their annoying fans and their nickname America's Team but the 49ers are no different instead choosing to choke in the NFC Championship and Superbowl instead of the wildcard or divisional rounds.
This team is gonna be shook after that loss they'll probably make the playoffs but they won't be the number one seed in the NFC I bet this is Kyle shanahans last chance which he honestly doesn't deserve imo
@@esdeathisbae9480bruh what Kyle is a top 3 coach in the sport lmao
@@CoC_Lord yet he has no rings despite having the best teams
@@esdeathisbae9480 plenty of great teams and coaches don’t win a Super Bowl, I’m sure the eagles regret letting Andy Reid go when he had the same criticisms of him that Kyle does right now. If a coach can consistently get to the nfc championship/Super Bowl no matter the roster, he’s a great coach. He’s inarguably- a top 3 play caller, top 3 offensive head coach, and every qb that he coaches for has their career season. Same with Andy Reid. Not Kyle’s fault he happened to line up against a guy who will end his career as the greatest football player ever both his Super Bowl runs
@@CoC_Lord i don't regret letting Reid go cause the eagles finally did win a Superbowl without him. And I am happy for Reid that he's getting the success he never had in Philly. As for Kyle the 49ers should've known what they were getting into after the travesty that was 28-3. Maybe one year is unrealistic if me to say but if a few years pass and there's still no results I think there'll be no choice
Thank you, Tubfrog for this video. For me, born and raised as a California native and just entered the world of the NFL after Super Bowl 56 (Rams Victory). I didn't think that the 49ers would keep coming back, [short], and worst of all tossing away their 3rd Super Bowl. I'm infuriated as why the 49ers keep losing the Super Bowl. I have so many complaints about them being great yet pathetic at worst. I don't really know when someone will get a grip and end their drought. All now we can say is laugh and rage at the 49ers.
Ah man. I’m a relatively new 9ers fan but I’m here to stay. Idc how long it takes. I will see my boys lift another Lombardi. Knock on wood of course lol.
TUBBIE MADE ANOTHER ONE!! 🗣🔥
As a lowly Falcons fan, I truly feel for the 49ers. We are not even close to how dominant they have been, but I do take a little comfort knowing that we can put a little more blame on Shanahan for not being conservative with play calling in our beautiful disaster.
As a 49er fan shoutout to the falcons bro you guys should have a great season this year
@chrisperez7710 Thanks bro, and I guess drafting Pennix as insurance isn't as ridiculous as I thought 😅

The 49ers after 1994 are a #LegacyOfFailure
i knew this vid would come 🤦♂️ as a niners fan this wasnt easy
Do a vid on Arizona's incompetence please 🙏
Given how long they've been terrible that video will probably be 2 hours long
I think that video will be called: "The Most Miserable Franchise in Sports: The Story of the Arizona Cardinals"
This year will mark 77 years since the Cardinals last NFL championship pre-Super Bowl, and that was back when the franchise was in Chicago.
It might have to be a 3 video essay on how much of a failure the Cardinals Franchise is as a whole.
I'm hoping someone does one predicting the failure coming up for the Bears. They had two streaks in two years where the offense played well & the second one was right when the Bears acquired Montez Sweat & a new DC. So the HC Matt Eberflus was busy acclimating them to the team & we saw the return of good offense by the Bears.
This means that Getsy who has been fired was calling the winning plays, & that Eberflus, the retained HC *is the one who **_cancelled them twice AFTER SEEING_** that they worked.* & that *_all_* 8 games play-called by Getsy without Eberlfus' interference are all better than the 26 Eberflus meddled in & of course that he can't seem to stop himself *from* meddling.
How long before this micro-managing control freak who _bragged about_ meddling in the offense (which was weird considering their record under him doing that) just sabotages Williams for the sake of it, or because Williams starts making good plays out of the structure Eberflus imposes? There are *TONS* of examples of obviously bad play-callers being retained despite their ineptitude, isn't that right Matt Patricia & Josh McDaniels?
I'm gonna enjoy watching it.
This video really shows they're very similar to The Boston Celtics
And the 76ers are the Cowboys of the NBA, teams that had success in the 80's/90's but ever since 95 for the Cowboys and since 2001 for the Sixers they each haven't made it to the conference finals since then.
More like the Miami heat 😢

This hurts 😭
Last Super Bowl was like a week long hangover I’m ready to be disappointed again in February
Was born into this fandom… it hurts to hear how historic we are but to have never seen them win one with my own eyes.
I always forget how bad Smith was that season before heading to KC. And the man has everyone's respect for coming back the way he did after nearly died... crazy story. Should be a movie, and not just a documentary.
That he even played another season is a miracle
As a Packer fan thats had my heart ripped out MANY times by SF... This was highly entertaining!!! Great video
The football version of my dodgers
I’m a cowboys fan… but man I’d be sad if my team was the best in the nfl for years and came up short.
With all due respect, you are a Raider fan. The Raiders have had the worst ownership in the NFL since probably 1986. Or whenever Al Davis decided that his ego couldn't let him allow Marcus Allen to be the face of the team. Honestly, Al Davis plummeted a once proud franchise into depths of mediocrity the 49ers didn't even experience in the 2000s. Raider fans would be absolutely beside themselves to have a team that achieved the level of success the 49ers have in the last thirteen years.
That said, holy shit are you right.
11:04 NaVorro Bowman getting away with holding Roddy White on a drive where Atlanta was moving to try to retake the lead helps, too
You know, if Colin Kaepernick didn’t act like a dumbass the 49ers could’ve been a very different team right now
“The Santa Clara 49ers” 👍🏽
This is the most fun I've ever had watching my team get trashed. Thanks for the laughs.
As a Seahawks fan, I miss our 10 game winning streak against them
As a 49ers fans its nice to know that someone also sees this as heartbreaking if you were a fan of this team
Shout out to bills and vikings fans who had it worse, but so far the york niners are catching up
IMO The Niners are never going to win another championship with Jed York as the owner . Dude is not a winner like his uncle. He seems just content just making the playoffs; which he considers a success, as per what he said last season. Contradicting his previous statement when he pretty much fired Harbaugh for not hanging SB Championship banners and not winning with class lol
It’s okay I’ve set my expectations low with this team, as to not get too upset when they find new ways choke or be mismanaged. As a 42 year old I was spoiled with the dominant Niner teams who won Super Bowls in the 80s and 90s 💪🏽
Awesome video as always Tubs! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🫡
Same. 38 yr old here. Became a fan when they won in 94. I remember Favre beating the niners in 98 in the NFCCG. That was real heartbreak & when Jed became the owner, my friends homie told me the niners would never win one with him in 2006!!!!! How right he would be
@@jqhart6957 Right on bro!
Haha Farve owned us in the 90s when he was playing for GB With the exception being the NFC Wild Card round when TO was dropping passes but managed to catch it when it counted, the TD pass that won the game “The Catch 2.” And thank God for the NFL not having instant replay back then. Jerry Rice had fumbled earlier on that drive, that GB recovered.
But, yeah Jed is definitely not like his uncle in the sense where he wants to win at all costs, I don’t think he would have fired Harbaugh for petty reasons either unless he had a better coach to replace him. I don’t think it was a coincidence so many key players retired or left the team after.
@@shoestringundertakingsloaded team too. Rod Woodson, Kevin Greene and they beat the Broncos earlier on in the year that Monday night……. Smh but yeah. These new kids are happy with being contenting & not winning and it sickens me.
@@jqhart6957 You’re right! I almost forgot that the Niners had Rod Woodson and Kevin Greene. Eddie always tried to sign or go after the best players available to make his team a Super Bowl contender every year. His biggest mistake was giving the team over to his sister, who let her husband who had no experience doing so run the team. Fires Mariucci after 2003, and hires Erickson 🤷🏽♂️ making the Niners mediocre, didn’t make the playoffs under performing considering the talent they had. Then from 2005-10 losing seasons (Nolan/Singletary era) But yeah man you’re right kids nowadays are happy just to make it to the playoffs, or Super Bowl and not winning championships.
Niners should have won in 2019-20, and last year, that was mainly on Kyle. He has a history of choking and it would be forgiven if dude just learned from his mistakes and would take responsibility for losing games. At least Brock Purdy owned up to it, takes responsibility when they lose, that he should have played better; that’s what leaders do.
As a ravens fan, I wish we played the 49ers more often beating them is so much fun
Just wanna mention this.
I'm a Raven. I loved the experience of the Harbowl, I enjoyed the drama of the fabricated game stoppage due to power outage (I'm just kidding... kinda), and I'm glad that game ended in our second Lombardi trophy.
But there was a dialog going on during this time that always bugged me. The elite QB dialog.
Of course you have Rodgers, Manning, Brady, and Brees. In my opinion, they were the "Mount Rushmore" of elite quarterbacks during this era. But sports media wanted to throw a LOT of QBs in that conversation.
Granted, the early 2010 had a slew of extremely good QBs. Stafford. Ryan. Rivers (although I never really liked the guy). Newton. Wilson. The list goes on.
And, of course, Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco were both in that conversation in 2013.
Here's the thing; Kaepernick was one of the best QBs in the league in 2012/2013. Hands down. And out of all the great-but-not-elite QBs of the time, Colin is the only one I would put on deck as a potential elite passer. The dude was absolutely amazing.
Joe Flacco, though I absolutely love the guy and always believed in his talent (even when Baltimore fans turned on him), was never an elite QB.
I remember watching sports analysts talking about Flacco after he got that $120M deal as though he was on the pantheon with a Rodgers, Manning, Brady, or Brees. And that's hilarious.
Joe was one of the best game-manager QBs to ever suit up. And he had big games, he put up decent stats for us... but Matt Stafford was a more polished and potentially elite QB by FAR.
My respect for Flacco is immense. I sorta wish his career would have seen more success than it did, because the guy, his personality, his passion for the game, his ability to remain ice cold in pressure situations... could have been in talks for the Hall of Fame.
But that's not what we got.
So I'm glad so many football fans have respect and admiration for Joe Cool. He's proven to be a fan favorite with fans of all teams. Well... maybe not the Steelers...
But y'all were trippin' calling my man an elite QB. And Kaepernick should have been given a chance to prove that he was that guy.
Losing 3 Super Bowl games in a decade is pretty tough ngl
Losing four consecutive Super Bowls is pretty tough ngl

As someone who grew up in St. Louis as a St. Louis Rams fan, GOOD. I hope they have continued success just to crash and burn at the last moment for the rest of their franchise's life.
I’ve been waiting for this video, as a 49ers fan.
Another Great Video, But Dude you Forgot to Highlight the Play where the 49ers called the 'Wrong Blocking Scheme' pulling the Right Guard/Tackle & leaving KC's Chris Jones with a 'Free Path' to the QB! Blows Up the Play & the 49ers don't score & Lose the Game!!
As a Rams fan this is quite satisfying.
As a Niners fan who has watched the entire 2011-2024 unfold, you nailed it. Although you made one mistake, Patrick Willis season ending injury happened on MNF in St.Louis, not Santa Clara.
As a Bengals fan I feel disrespected, and you said it as a RAIDERS fan which is who we beat that same season
Another surefire banger!
You forgot to mention the Bradshaw “forward progress”. He fumbled with 2 min left and 9ers got screwed there too. Also Kyle Williams was only returning punts because Ginn was out. Crazy unlucky
As a Packers fan...
The Niners are a master of Heartbreak. Definitely in the self-inflicted variety, but also a bit in the dishing out kind as well, since we keep running into the wall that is this team seemingly every postseason.
Also last SB was freaking painful to watch as someone who wanted the Chiefs to get their ass kicked for hogging all of the football journalism attention because of a Tight End and a Singer getting together. The first half was painting the picture of the #1 seed's wheels falling off and becoming a flaming car wreck... then the rest of the game happened and I left the game very sad... and $5 poorer after doing a mid game bet with a friend.
At this point; Chiefs, go for the threepeat and ship off somewhere else and let other teams go for the Lombardi. We do not need a brand new dynasty of terror.
Let’s go!!!! These videos are awesome! Thank you so much for making these dude
This hurt…this really hurt. You bastard. 😂
Fun Fact: My Bleacher Report signature is “If I ever get a cancerous tumor I’m naming it Jed York.”
The craziest stat in all of this is that since 2011, the 49ers have either missed the Playoffs entirely or gotten at least to the NFC Championship. Every loss in the Playoffs (except 2022) was to the eventual Super Bowl champs.
This is gonna be a hard watch💔
I feel like as long as Jed York is there the Niners are cursed, HE'S the common denominator throughout this entire tale of tragedy and woe
Furthur context. From 2011-2013 and 2019-2023 so fa, theyve lost 6 games either in the supebowl or to the eventual superbowl champs with all but one of them being close games.
Good job with this one bud. The pain is real. I don't know what's worse just plain sucking or playing well until the end and blowing it. It all sucks though.
As a Seattle fan, this video brings me great joy. I can only wonder if they're about to have the most epic super bowl hangover imaginable after blowing that game in February. Hopefully so.
I did not need this in my sub feed tubfrog!😭
How dare you point out Kapershit's obvious flaws as a QB, that's blatant racism.
Can you make a video recapping the whole 2023 season? I LOVED the 2022 video

I love you, please don't leave us 🥺
wow reliving this is even more painful how we got so close and didn't win one is honestly impressive. Its like even if we tried to fuck it up again I don't think we could this bad
I remember watching my “Dream Team” Eagles blow a 20-point lead to the 49ers in Week 4 of 2011. It signaled both the fall of the Eagles’ “Dream Team” and the rise of the 49ers, whose last winning season had been in 2002. But they improved to 3-1 while we fell to 1-3. *They* were the ones whose “dreams” came true that year. Not us.
Born in ‘94 Niners fan here, my time has come 🤣😭
That Seahawks nfc title game was fixed, bowman got injured and recovered that fumble, but no the refs reversed the play and the Seahawks scored, truly still blows my mind how they didn’t give the niners the ball after a clear as day fumble and recovery by San Fran on the goal line
They get OUTCOACHED because Shanahan gets too cute and stops doing what's working. It's as simple as that. He did the same thing against the Patriots, refusing to run the ball in the 2nd half and burn clock. Don't know why this guy freezes in big situations.
ya u can see it in his face when they pan the cam to him in tense situations. He has no clutch DNA whatsoever
I'm surprised they still haven't canned him guy can't get it done no matter how talented the team is
Yep I knew it wasn't gonna go well when after Patrick Mahomes gives the niners an awful INT and then passed 8 out of 9 plays.....with CMC in the backfield....
CMC had 30 rushes in the Superbowl. That wasn't the problem. CMC Fumble, Unlucky punt muff, blocked Extra Point (Moody didn't miss ONE extra point all season until that moment) I'm convinced we were cursed when we moved to Santa Clara at this point
What about the refs never calling a single hold on Mahomes trash oline in his 3 wins. His only sb loss, vs brady they were called. Of course, folks will say, oh no its just he mahomes factor lol. Not ever acknowledging the refs play for kc in the games.
