As a child we always said we had a blow off! Also codswallop was quite often used. Recognized nearly all of them including chinwag! I'm in New Zealand

As a Canadian, I think you two are hilarious. We use a lot of both countries slang terms.

...is it just me or can anyone else not tell the difference in their accents
I think it's harder for people who are not from either country to tell it apart. Eg, as a Brit I can easily tell the Aussie girl is not from here, but I find it incredibly difficult at times to distinguish American and Canadian when they swear blind they are different.
thats because they have similar accents, australia was colonized by britain, and most aussies have got british parents or others in their family
pretty big difference to me, perhaps you have to be one of those accents naturally to hear the differences. The Australian does have an educated Australian accent so it does have a lot of traits in common with an English accent.
I've heard if you have a well spoken Aussie accent and travel to England it changes pretty quickly and vice versa, but takes American accents much longer either way. So you've probably got a very mixed accent depending how long you've been there.

I'm Aussie and I knew all of these except 'Gordon Bennett'.
I've never used 'blow off' for ditching people but I remember we called farts that when we were kids, even though 'breaking wind' was considered a more polite term then.
I suppose I've watched enough British tv and movies, known enough Poms and the fact that Australians still retain many British idioms anyway since we haven't been here that long.
To blow off has a couple of meanings ;) oh yes it does

I've always used Blow Off to mean unwind, as in " I gotta blow off some steam" to unwind from being angry or stressed, I OCCASIONALLY use it to mean - avoid or get rid someone - but saying that can be misinterpreted as a sexual act - as in Oral Sex. So for me, to Blow Off would mostly mean to unwind from being stressed or angry - may be it's a Northern thing.

The First one, " gordon bennett " sounds like American slang " God damm it !!! " and the same meaning btw
Names like "Gordon Bennett" are substitutes for more graphic terms. Another example would be "Sweet Fanny Adams".

it's literally the polite way to say "oh god". The same way people say sugar instead of shit, because you can stop yourself mid-word and say "Gordon Bennett" instead of god.

I think Australians over 40 (born before 1980) are more English in our language and those under 40 are more American, basically as a result of TV/Hollywood.
I agree in a way. I think Australians are losing our accents and slang because we are now brought up with American influences through TH-cam or celebrities.

I went to England recently and an Australian girl at the bar confused my accent with a British one.
