Always great to see your take on watches esp since this is one I am also reviewing. As with personal preferences there are things you dislike that I like, butterfly clasp being one of them. I got the all silver stainless steel version which is a real looker. We agree on the movement, needs to change! Great job as always my friend
Exactly. Apparently a lot of folks are oblivious to CW watch designs. I recognized this design right of the bat. It’s a total copycat watch. Just buy CW and don’t waste your money on crap like this. CW is super affordable IMO.
This is an exact copy of that model. I felt like this was a very strong design to be their own in-house design, lol. Like the other person said, the hands r a dead giveaway.
@@chrispekel5709 affordability is clearly relative. The good news for you is that according to ChatGPT, “Some industry analysts suggest that over 90% of watches produced worldwide are priced under $1,000.” I guess you have a lot of choices then, including the one in this video. The good news for me, is that since I make a pretty good income, I can afford a to buy a quality watch that’s over $1,000. In the end, there’s something for everyone. My first watch was a Hamilton khaki field mechanical which cost me $450 and is honestly one of my greatest purchases.
I think this is the best model I have seen from them. I'm not a fan of all black, but I think this one looks quite good. A lot of good things going on in this watch. The only two things i don't like, and it's just my preference: 43mm is too big, and I don’t like butterfly clasp. Otherwise, a solid watch.
If they are taking feedback, the first thing is change the name. Because I agree, they have some very interesting offers, especially their world timer.
Black on black on black is really pretty! It would work well for tactical applications! The dial from the front almost looks like carbon fiber. All in all aa rather nice watch!
James, 300m and no screw down crowns? and a see through caseback?? why not round it to 500m.. My Certina ds action diver and Helm Khuraburi are both 300m certified dive watches and even 200m miyako/monsters/samurai/citizen promaster/orca look, all of those certified, totally different. As mentioned in the comments, this is more than a homage to CW so if Welly Merck people are reading these comments and would like some feedback.. We would highly appriciate a Chinese brand wirh original designs, inspired by is also good. But common make yourself diffrenet from everyone else and be original. Ohh and use proper movements! no ghost position on watches..
They’ve already indicated that they are dropping the name from their dials and going to logo only. The sooner the better as they are off limits for me, and I suspect many other people, until they do. Guess they’ve got a huge inventory with the name on to sell first though.
thats amazing! too heavy, but amazing, i like it a lot, the silver version looks better to me however. i didn't understand how the compass moved, and thanks to this video i get it now. Love it!
Interesting that the second hand is polished as other reviews and the AE pictures have an orange hand . Yes , it’s pretty much a carbon copy of the Christopher Ward Lympstone , the dial on that is compressed carbon fibre .thanks for that .
I like the look of it. I definitely need to get rid of the butterfly clasp. One thing that happens to me is that it usually pops open, and that won't be fun, especially if you take it swimming and you have to reclasp it
Looked at this one on last sale. Really like the look of and are my style of watch, just abit sad that they have a orange second hand on all the pictures but it dosnt seem to have that on all they send out. It just adds that little extra pop to the dial.
Do u know if this is a pvd finish? Or what the black coating is exactly? I’ve seen this and another one of there watches in this black finish but if it’s not pvd or dlc I know it want hold up. Obviously at this price it’s not dlc but pvd would be nice.
“actually reminds me a little bit of my Christopher Ward” How to lose respect from your viewers immediately. It’s a straight forward copy of the Lympstone, and since you’re a CW fan this isn’t simply a blunder, it’s an intentionally misleading downplay of the fact this is a copy.
I did not know it was a direct homage when I made the video. I certainly picked up on the hands looking very CW. Shows you how well CW are doing that their are homages of them being made now.
I like this watch - another I'll probably get and put it on a dark orange leather strap! Needs tritium tubes though. I have the Welly Merck Dunhuang orange with black leather strap which I think is spectacular design and great to look at. Very different and is portraying signficant chinese/western culture intersection. I paid $5 extra for the full package expereince. Unfortuanately the bezel on the Dunhuang is slightly misaligned and has a lot of backplay, but can forgive that. Hows the bezel play on this one?
Love both my Welly Merck Ocean Series and World Timer. Very much angry about the defective Moon Watch they sent me that I back. This one looks cool. I however don’t “get” the inside compass dial and don’t like push/pull crowns. The dial finish is awesome looking though.
Did anyone realize this is a direct copy of the Christopher Ward C60 Lympstone? It’s a total replica watch. Even copies the carbon dial. I’m tired of watch companies that steal designs from other companies. Christopher Ward is already hugely affordable. The Lympstone is $1300 USD for 600m water resistance, ceramic unidirectional bezel, internal compass bezel, and a COSC certified movement.
You're right. That's probably why this thing looks so good for an AliExpress watch. Here's my problem with the CW, though. I hate it when watch companies half-ass things. Offering a black PVD watch without a black bracelet option is half-assing it. I really hate that so much. Baltic does the same thing. Black watch, no black bracelet. I don't like rubber straps and style-wise, leather usually doesn't work with those kinds of watches. So a black watch without a black metal bracelet is useless to me.
This really isn't my cup of tea, the brand is doing some interesting homages and I quite like the logo so when they drop the name, I might buy. As mentioned in anothe comment, is it really 300m WR without screw down crowns?
Stupid name aside, this seems to be a lot of value for the money. I like black watches and this one actually looks nice. €146? That's a really attractive price. The main issue that keeps me from ordering one right now is size. 43mm diameter, 13mm thickness and almost 50mm lug-to-lug. That's too chunky for me. If they'd shrink the thing by 8-10% in all dimension, this would be a much nicer watch. A bit lighter, too. I'd also happily pay the €30 or premium for a Miyota 9xxx movement. They should also ditch the weird brand name on the dial and just go with the logo, which actually doesn't look too bad.
I always wonder how that black coating on the bracelet will hold up. Also not a fan of faux textured dials or butterfly clasps. Lum is meh. Miyota 8215 movement is again not impressive - it is just fine. To me it is a lack luster release following their successful Worldtime watch. Ironically I like the all black concept.
@@WATCHingJames Sure. But it means I just can't trust your content and how are you supposed to watch a channel that's supposed to be informative if you can't trust it. People's channels that cover replicas know and tell you it's a replica. This just made me lose trust.
Still. Thanks for WATCHing. I actually did not know when doing this review that it was a homage. I did think the hands were very CW. Which is why I said it.
This is the fake copy of a real military watch: Christopher Ward Lympstone. This is a copy watch that is good for empty and fake people. greetings from Italy

Being that it is military styled, it would benefit from tritium tube illumination.
Now that would be cool

The real Christopher Ward has a carbon dial. This copy obviously couldn't do the same within budget
I agree, it gives off a Christopher Ward vibes. Love super compressors.

It’s a copy of the CW c60 Lympstone watch.

No technical information on how they achieve a 300m depth claim with a push pull crown I suppose? Or do you think that's just a nominal figure?
Good point, although it is no doubt possible, I'm not convinced those two crowns really are sealed to 30 bar pressure.
I don’t think I would be testing that water resistance 😳
