B models are an iconic staple of LEGO Technic. They usually bring out the best in LEGO Technic, having some of the most complex mechanisms, most interesting designs, and more! However, there have been a few b models that were lackluster. Which B models are the worst ones ever?

I have to admit, as n°5, I would have put the category of " you keep the chassis, you change the structure", there is quite a lot of models like this... And I would have add a special mention for the now classic " No B Model, with love, the Lego Company " XD
However 'bad' those B-models were, at least Lego bothered to design them to add replay value to their sets, now they are not even trying. Perhaps is time to do a feature on some of the most unique B-models(like the 8480-B Submarine or the T-Rex from 8485), the golden age sets got some of the best B-models out there.
#5 - You underestimate this truck, it's a good base for MOCs.
#1 - I agree. An extremely strange model.
lego 42082 had a serious problem with the boom. i had to rebuild it completely and to replace the l motor with an xl . the boom did not had a correct angle and the turret had to be rebuilt and the gears rearranged and added others too. also a real all terrain crane has only one piston not two.
If you are a LEGO Technic MOC designer like me all of the B Models on this list would have been designed all by me.
the 9398 is on the of few sturdy OEM chassis. Very mature design.
That is really bright with these colours on that lego technic vehicle. I think it should only have two colours: green and gray. So it will have not that bright colours. 3:30
The problem is that at some point in the elaboration of technic set, the price of the piece color must be seen, I don't see any other explanation of why the interior and exterior of many sets are colored so differently...
Unbrickme, can you make a video ranking all the construction sets (bulldozers, cranes, excavators, dumping trucks, forklifts do not include the mine sets)

I think the B-model for the Technic Rough Terrain crane isn't that bad, I'm just glad that I wouldn't have to rebuild the whole thing to build the B-model.

@@Unbrickme I'm just kinda lazy, taking apart the whole set and rebuilding it would take a long time, just to try out the B model.
Great video. Must hard to build a great model with a limited set of pieces to use. I bet many of us can build some even worse B models though LOL. 😂

Hey, i recently got back into Lego, when i was a kid i was mad about Technic! :) Your videos are really amazing. What is your opinion on buying second hand sets? I don't have a lot of money, and lego is expensive in The Netherlands :(
Thanks! Bricklink is a great place for second hand sets. Sealed or open box are great options.

@@Unbrickme One I´d suggest is the giant semi truck from the old Technic Idea Book 8889, it was built out of 3 early Technic sets.
The idea book had only pictures, but people have reverse engineered it, and there are now instructions for it!

i rebuilt lego 42009 into a demag ac120 using lego 42082's wheels. luffing jib was added. boom is around 2 m tall without the luffing jib. it has 12 wheels. 12 th wheels are the counterweight's trailer. build using demag ac120's pdf.
3:43 if you say the rough terrain crane’s b B model is the 2nd worst you might as well as put the unimog on the list as well because the unimog’s B model is just the crane rebuilt into a snow plow and the truck remains unchanged.
i tried making a smaller mobile crane but because of weight, gears and flexibility i only build a big one. rigid and functional. i will upload photos next week and post links too.

Watt the 42054 claas xerion tractor haw a wway similar b model ten the rough terrain crane. i have the rough terrain crane and it is my best lego sett i own. The crane is one of the top 10 best lego technic sets of al time. Wen you pick te best lego technic sets it needs to be the first to implement a new function. but it doesn't matter because that only thing that meter is if it is the first lego technich set to implement that function for you. With care

The reason some of these b models look so crap is because you are making the b model from the a models parts some b models don't always consist of the same amount of pieces the a model has and some do and the reason why it looks so ugly is because with it being a secondary model and the a models a 10x better some people don't worry about building the b model
Yeah but most B models look great! 8043 b model looks like an a model, the space shuttle b model looks like an a model, and many more

Haha the biggest motorized lego technic set i own is the last one, i dont like it that much, it isn't worth the money... Bad steering, verry slow, no power....
I bought it for 100€, it was worth the money XD nah seriously, you just have to consider this set as a base, that you can then modify to create a great... Well, not always great, but something that can be better :)

Thanks, but it was more of a joke, since contemporary sets hardly have any B models and if they do, you need to download a PDF, instead of getting it on paper. It is a shame, since B-models gave so much more depth to a set.

If you take a look at the earliest Technic models from the 70s and early 80s, those even came with several C-models! Tho the instructions mainly had just some pictures of them to build on

How about u try and make ur own b model for some of these sets, not all that easy when u have limited pieces. Instead of being so nit-picky and over-exaggerating everything how about u actually spend time on decent content rather then keep on re uploading the same content actually put effort into ur videos and the information in them, and while ur at it not everything needs a gear box or rc functions.
Thank you so much for your feedback! I’m not sure where the part about re uploading came from. I have never re uploaded my own content and I have never re uploaded someone else’s content. I still love all LEGO! But everything has best and worst. Worst does not mean bad, just that it is the least appealing thing from a group of the best things. @@jameswaldron9280 It's his opinion, don't be rude. Some b models are greatly designed even with a limited number of pieces. Look at the $10 technic race plane. Milan Randall made a lot of alternate models with it ONLY using the pieces from the race plane set. A limited number of pieces doesn't just limit you to one singular creation.

@@Unbrickme based of the content u have created i would say less 'top 10' type videos thats where i find most of the issue, ur reveiw/comparison ideos are fine and i incourage more to be made (i understand money can be an isue when it comes to those types of videos, reveiws especially) just a bit of a nit-pick when talking about features in lego sets keep in mind the pricing and target audiance of the sets (age rating .etc) because i do have to admit, in some cases u do expect many features in lego sets (gearboxes, rc function etc). one more thing, when talking about lego sets some thing u say often backfire for example- in this video one complaint u had about one of the b models is that there were far to many colours and it was quite 'messy' looking yet in another video ( th-cam.com/video/xNWZyCS2Bnc/w-d-xo.html ) when talking about the mobile crane set (4108) u mentioned instead of going for looks they should have implemented more features (like the older mobile crane set) which kinda contradict ur statement mnetioned earlier. anyways i think that all i have to say.
