Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts! 🙏☺️ If I could suggest one thing about your video style, I'd omit the constant music in the background and just do some at the beginning and end of the video, because I'm not sure about anyone else but in order to hear your voice I had to turn the volume up so loud that the music was pretty distracting. Just my humble opinion; take it as you wish. 😊 Love your channel and I'm excited to see your future oil pastel set! (Don't worry, by then I'll have forgotten about it so it'll still be a surprise.) Lol 😅 Have a fun New Year's!
Thank you so so much for being so kind and taking your time to let me know how to improve. I knew I had a bit of a tendency to mumble but not this bad, and the loud music made it worse. I'll make an effort to improve both things. And the oil pastels are in their way, I just live a bit far from the states and it takes a while to get here. But it's coming! Have a good time you too! Hope to keep seeing you around here!
I carry a jelly roll number 10 much better! New subbie here from Texas,USA, I’ve been watching your videos so far I really like.what country are you from? Keep up the good work.-Maria
I tried gelly rolls and uni signos, they always dried up on me, changed to 0.7 white posca, never let's me down. I have used talents gouache forever, but it hasn't been sold for quite a long time at my location and I miss it so much. Luckily I am moving back to my home country soon and will get back to them. And hey, new sub here
I have seen some poscas in my local art shop, but they seem super thick, like 4mm thick. Next time I'll ask if they have thinner ones. Thank you so much for commenting and subscribing! If you have any requests let me know and I'll try to make it :)
I have been wondering if the Choosing Keeping Gansai sets were by Kissho. I recently acquired a set of 72 colors and a set of 20 Sumi Gansai (Amazon calls them Sai Ayami or Sabiki colors) from Kissho and they are beautiful paints. I would say less clean/vibrant than the Kuretake Gansai, but with more personality. As others have suggested, I would try the 1.0 size white Gelly Roll pen and make sure it's opaque white, not sparkly. Uni-ball Signo in white is another option I've heard good things about.
I did some research before buying my Choosing Keeping set but nobody knew. So when I found out I thought it would be interesting information to share :)
So true! Even 10 years ago when I just graduated from art school a lot of these things were not available, at least where I live. Thank you for watching!
Thank you! Just subscribed and watched your videos. I have not painted with gouache yet. I bought some MGraham gouache and waiting for two tubes of Holbein gouache. I bought a set of Holbein’s pastel watercolors and love them creamy and smooth. So hoping the gouache is good also.
You're in for a treat! I've heard those brands are great. Just a couple of tips: Don't be afraid to explore the opacity, that's the fun of it. Also prepare for the color shift when drying, it can really alter things. :) Thank you so much for subscribing!
It looks to me like your gelly roll is actually the sparkle one and not the opaque white. I also agree with the previous post that you need to bold one. It is my go to white pen because i know i can count on it to write each and every time i pick it up. That is not the case with the others i have tried.
The Derwent water brushes are more expensive but they are my favorite and have great water control though I also prefer a travel brush over a water brush
@rebeccahesser8057 Sorry for butting in but I can't seem to find the 5 set you mentioned. 😢 The black set I saw comes with 3 brushes and, the other set, with a huge blue press button, comes in a set of 4. Can you help?
I also do not like Grumbacher! It does have strange sizing! I have a whole pad of it lying around unused now. The swatch cards are a great idea! Another great "budget" watercolor paper is Bee, both cellulose and cotton.
Good to know it wasn't just me. It's sad to let art supplies go to waste. Maybe you can try a different medium on them. I find gouache does not require as high quality paper as watercolor does.
Great video and very informative! I just don’t like the repetitive background music it would be better if there was more variety and maybe not as loud. Other than that I thought the video was great I will check out your others!
The Strathmore 500 series Mixed Media series is terrific for watercolor. re: the spiral Canson Mixed Media sketchbooks, there are two kinds. The 138 lb French heavyweight paper version is more expensive and harder to find than the one you have but it is also FAR superior and well worth it
That's right, they have an online store. They are located in London, so if you don't live there shipping might be expensive. They have tons of really cool art supplies tho, specially brushes
In my experience, the Gelly rolls are more opaque the thicker the nib. The best ones to use is 10, or 08 if you can't find 10. I see you have a 05, I find it doesn't flow as readily.
Hello, the music was annoyingly loud comparing to the volume of your voice so pay attention to that, because it can cause people to click off. And when you spoke about the Portable Painter and White Nights it was a bit unclear whether you disliked the palette or paints or both - that can give the vibe of being unfair as it seems like you dump the fault of one item onto the other. Otherwise a good video 😊 happy new year 🎉
Nice video... I saw a set of jelly roll retractable pins on sale for around $10, 10 pens, six are white, two are gold, two are silver 0.8mm. I missed the sale and Amazon suggested I buy 'Uniball Signo um - 153' for the same price... three white, three silver, three gold, 0.8mm. I got them and then the jelly roll went on sale so I grabbed them too. The uniball are juicy and very opaque with full coverage and no skipping. Beautiful pens and a joy to use! I just now tested the jelly rolls and it was a very disappointing comparison. (And yes, they are the opaque white) The white isn't truly opaque so the lines and shapes are weak, gray and streaky on black. After fiddling with it for a few minutes I did get it to flow better, and it improved a little, (but not much) ...the flo comes and goes and it srarted to skip. The reason I was tempted to get them is because they're sold as waterproof and archival. I'm tempted to do more experiments- but honestly, the white is So disappointing, I will probably be returning them. The Uni-ball doesn't have any information, so I got some water and a paint brush and it turns out neither of the whites are waterproof! The jelly roll seems to have a finer line for writing, but the Uni-ball is significantly more opaque which is what i am looking for. I'm glad I saw your video, it prompted me to do a comparison.
How do Gansai watercolors differ from other watercolors? I hear people saying how they "don't paint like regular watercolors" and that ends up being a reason for people to dislike them. I'd like to understand if you'd care to explain it me. Thanks. 😊
In general they feel a bit more opaque tan "western watercolors", which could be a good or a bad thing depending on what you're looking for. I really like them tho... But, you know what, let me make the next video about this topic. Thank you for your question!
@iosebaart Interesting. Would love to give them a try one of these days. The colors do look gorgeous. 🥰 I'll keep an eye on my notifications to make sure I don't miss it. Always eager to learn more! 😊
An Interesting video, Thankyou for sharing with us 😊 I've used quite a few different brands of graphite pencils, but for me the Staeadtler ( blue barrel ) are by far the best, they glide so smoothly and they never let me down. I dare say that there probably are other brands out there but I've learnt over time to just stick with what you like and what works for you instead of wasting time & money trying other brands. Strangley though I've used the red barrel Staeadtler pencils but I've found them to be quite scratchy and not as smooth as the blue variety not quite sure why so I just buy the blue. Amazon sell different grades of the blue pencils in sets of 12 so I prefer to buy those. Canson are a fantastic brand and I have many different types of their paper pads, I've never had any problems with them and they are reasonably priced too, although I don't like spiral books but you have to use whatever you feel comfortable with. Best wishes for A Happy New Year, see you in 2024!!

i was literally about to write this! thanks for expressing what i was feeling watching, I did enjoy the video nonetheless!
Your Gelly Roll White is too thin. You need the 1.0. It's my white gel pen of choice. The UNI ones tend to gunk up on me
Good suggestion. I'll try to find a thicker one. This one definitely did not deliver as I expected. Thanks!
The gelly roll 8 and 10, especially 10 are much better. Also, the lighter you press allows more ink to flow in the gelly roll pens. Good luck 🍀

The Choosing Keeping watercolors are absolutely beautiful! I hope they find their way to the US soon! 💜
I hope so too!
Interesting video, please turn the music a little less loud next time. ❤
Noted! Thank you for letting me know:)
I just got the Caran d’Ache water soluble oil pastels to try, but thank you for featuring the art philosophy ones. They are cheaper too. 😊

Oh, you need to upgrade to Rosemary and Company brushes. They have several blends, shapes, sizes as well as wonderful travel brushes!
I have been curious of those and the Escoda ones. I'll definitely make a video when I make the switch. Thank you for the suggestion!

Really? Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to get a Derwent one. Any recommendations on sizes or shapes?
They come in a set of 5 on Amazon three rounds and two flats

@@izzyg8316 you are right I’m sorry it is the 4 set and not the five I just looked it up on my Amazon. Sorry about that!!
You need to try the size 10 white Gelly Roll pen. That one is too thin :)
I think I just found where to get them. I'll definitely go as soon as the store is open again. Thanks!

Great video!
Thanks!
Your background music prevents from clearly hearing you at times.
Very distracting.
I was gonna say the same. I wish there was no music or so low that it's barely heard.
Thank you for the feedback! I have noticed I tend to mumble a bit. I'll work on that :)
ugh I don't like the gellyroll either the uniball sign is the BEST white pen. Great video (:
I just noticed they sell those at my local art store, I'm picking one for sure! Thanks!!

Thanks, please check the version with better audio, that's fixed there. Link in the description.
