Thank you for this video!! I've been debating over these two for a few days now! As for the sound on the G7X...I've seen a lot of people buy some fake fur from craft shops and glue it over the mic and it supposedly helps with wind sounds!

I have been tossing up between these two for a month or so. Thus has been helpful. Logically, m50 is better and more versatile but I know that I need a portable little camera that I can grab and go with the vlog and tutorial life. Later when if I upgrade, I'll still need a vlog camera so it is g7x mark iii for me at the moment. I do physics teaching and tutorials. At times I'll walk around the lab and don't want the bulk of the m50.
What I like about your tutorial is that you compared things like the aperture and blurry background in terms of real application. Very helpful for me as a beginner.

Good video. After years of wanting the g7x, I went for the m50. just because it made more sense for what I was looking for. the m50 is better in my opinion because it is more versatile. But for someone who wants to stay within the original price point and keep things simple(pick up and go filming) the g7x might be perfect.

I have them both, but prefer the M50. The audio quality, 4k video, the wide range lens selection with adapter, flip out screen, durability of the camera and battery life are some of the advantages of M50. Good presentation through, keep it up.

10:26 is the most underrated benefit of g7x for a vlogging camera in my experience. Look into windjammers for the wind noise. You have to modify them to fit but it’s worth the trouble. It is amazing how much of a difference they make. Thank you for the great comparison video.

@@jadaahnya It's a little furry thing you put over the microphone to block wind noise. They are miraculous. Sometimes they are called dead cats. Look it up. Will change your life if you video outside.

This was so helpful. I loved the quality of the G7x and simplicity of the lens. However, I am not sure yet if I need additional lenses when vlogging with m50.

@@GillianMulholland I checked out your vids, I think they’re great, and your personality kind of reminds me of other big creators that I know. I don’t think that your viewers will care too much about which camera you’re using, just definitely keep up the videos!
If you really want to reinvest into a good camera, I would highly recommend trading in your G7x for a Canon M50. The M50 auto focus is definitely faster and it’s a perfect for the type of content that you’re aiming for. Also, if you pair the M50 with the Rode Videomicro for $40-$50 extra, it will give you the great audio that you want, too. I hope that helped!
This very good tech comparison of the Canon G7 X (which was just delivered to me yesterday) and the M50 earned you a new subscriber. I was looking for a smaller compact camera to use mainly for making videos in my home studio for my TH-cam channel. I have a Canon 6D Mk II that I’ve used a couple of times but it’s a beast to set up so I decided to down size. After lots of research I settled on the G7 X II. Thanks for making me feel better about my decision to go with the G7 X. If you find a workaround to use an external mic with the G7 X please inform and add a video! “Black girl tech talk.” I’ll add “beautiful” to the beginning of that sentence from one of the commenters. Hey, thank you so much for this video. I have the M50 and the 70D but I'm still struggling with the best color profile to use for my dark skin. I either end up being washed out or too orange/red.

Thx for making this excellent video - very practical advice. I went with the Canon M50 and then also got a used Sony RX100ii for those times when I want an even smaller camera that still shoots high quality video and pics. The M50 quality is considerably better than the Sony RX100ii but the Sony has a lot of cool features that Canon does not support (e g. Partial colour and 360 panoramic modes). Very happy with both and often struggle to decide which camera to use!

You're so welcome!! Will the G7X be your only camera? If yes, I'd also recommend taking another look at the M50 lol. It's a better ALL AROUND camera. I personally went with the G7X because I only needed it for vlogging and I have a DSLR camera that I use as well. I did a dedicated video on the M50 as well. Check it out to see if you like it!
@@PiecesofOnye Yes my main focus for a new camera is vlogging and the sony i have now is the perfect size but doesn't do the job with the lighting. The M50 i like also bc i can change out he lenses but i am such a beginner when it comes to cameras so i think i may still go with the G7x. i have until June to decide. Loved the video and the part about the outdoor noise thing got me to thinking. I had just watched Deji's latest vlog and he was using a g7x that had like a weird fluffy thing on top of it, I'm guessing that was his solution to the noise issues. Have you heard of that or come up with your own solution? I don't wanna put out a link or anything but it was the one posted yesterday I think if you care to go see what I'm talking bout..... I'm thinking of of buying but I don't know which one is the best
I love the G7x Mark ii but I think I would go for the M50 because I will be using it in video recording indoors. Plus I already have lighting setup to compensate the low light concern of the M50. Though, I might prepare buying an extra camera, a Mark ii or mark III maybe if the Canon fixed the auto focus problem on it. I like the M50 because it's digi8 compared to digi7 of mark ii.

Every time I turn on the m50 I have to remember the switch on the lens, it’s annoying.
The great audio and being able to switch lens was the deal winner for me.
m50 is for me.

Yes! I have since seen some folks taping/gluing something over the mic area to reduce some of the background noise. I'll have to give that a try. I recorded my first vlog and will be sharing that today or tomorrow so you can see how it performs!
re ND light? Are you referring to a built-in flash? If yes, then yes it does have a flash that pops up.

I have them both but yeah for day to day I use the g7x to be less conspicuous

See I thought I was crazy because everyone seems to like the quality of the M50 more and I prefer the picture and video quality of the G7x Mark ll. I own both, but basically use the M50 for the use of the external mic. I just can't seem to get the image to look at great as the G7x mark ll. The audio on my G7x Mark ll sounds worse than yours. It sounds like a fan is running in the background. Incidentally, I own a canon Elph Powershot HS 340 and the picture is only great outdoors, but the audio is way better than the G7x Mark ll and the M50.

Thanks! Does the absence of a mike jack on g7x mkii make any difference? I like the flip screen and portability of g7x. But do not want to suffer on audio quality after shooting a video.
Monish on the West Coast It all depends on how you plan on using it. if you plan on doing a ton of outdoor video recording, it’s going to pick up on a lot of background noise. However, indoors it sounds just fine!

Also when vlogging do you put it in auto focus lock to avoid the focus hunting (that annoying clicking sound)

I’m still stuck on g7x Mark ii or the M50, I’ve watched so many videos and I still don’t know which is best😩. Update: I ended up going with the g7x mark ii. I have no regrets! It has the most perfect quality and is a very nice size. The only down side is that you can’t add a mic but you can just added a muffler right on top of the camera. Overall I’m glad I went with this camera

If your new to vlogging & filming the best one is the g7x but if you’ve been doing it for a little and want something more versatile the m50 is the way to go. Also m50 audio is great
For me personally i think the G7X camera is more better than the M50 because with me I would be doing a-lot of sit down videos and i just think that the G7X is more better for that especially if you put a Dslr lens on it. I also think it is better because I'm at that age where I don't want anyone to see me vlogging so the camera that I need has to be small.
My m50 is godly no little point and shoot camera can replace it

You're welcome! Lol, honestly, if I could combine the two into one that would make the perfect camera haha
Hmm. I really wish you had adjusted the aperture and other exposure settings on the m50 to properly showcase the picture quality and range. The m50 has much more options and customization than you lead viewers believe. The m50 is not a point and shoot camera and should not be operated like one. With the g7x you don’t have to do much but turn it on. Whereas the m50 you should(and have the option of) adjust the settings to see fit.

Canon G7X Mark ii has better camera quality and the voice does not sound muffled. I like that it’s small and that it has a flip up screen instead of to the side. So that you could tell if you’re in frame for your videos. I currently use my iPhone 11 promax to fill my video. That will be in life first Camera that I will get.

See my 70d plus my goby 5k man that thing is huge but when your a TH-camr when you vlog you just gotta own it as if Like you don’t care but say if you have something to shoot like right now you pull the g7x m50 is a very good camera but to have 70d and that giant mic rode that I have and m50 it’s way to much that is why g7 comes in handy sometimes
The fact that you can change the lenses depending on your needs kills the other camera. Using the kit lenses isn’t a good comparison.
Fair point. I did make mention that the lens on the M50 is changeable and when you put a better lens on the camera body, it will improve its performance. However, for those looking for a small-sized camera, this may be a con as it will more than likely make the camera bigger and bulkier.

You're welcome! I do think that it would be great for beauty videos! You'll just have to make sure that you're using enough light, but judging by your current videos, you have more than enough light ;-).

@@zachh468 I'd recommend going with the t7i! It's a great, reliable camera that takes good photos and great video. I'd recommend investing in a 50mm lens if you don't already have one! It's also beginner-friendly!
