That's a brilliant idea 💡 👏. I've been using a LODGE CAST IRON Trivet. Works great for taming the flames for more even cooking BUT it's heavy for backpacking needs. YOUR IDEA 💡 IS MUCH BETTER AND MUCH APPRECIATED.
I think you're the 1st on TH-cam to show this! Thanks! I was in the market for a camp cookset anyway! I only found them on REI. (Haven't shown up on Amazon yet as of 7/7/24) I love what they have done with the new version! That slight increase in size greatly improves this product! I ordered this new one, the 14-Piece Wildfare Go Two Bowl Prep & Cook Set and the Wildfare Core 7" Saucepan Cookset. The new Wildfare Saucepan's are tri-ply bonded stainless-steel which will help with evenly distribute heat and overall cooking experience!
Excellent review and well done to Stanley for improving an old favourite. It's actually nice to see a MK2 item that is a genuine improvement over the original, and not a thinly disguised cost cutting exercise...
Love this Stanley. I burned my leg with scalding water due to that old style narrow bottom not resting securely on a stove. This newer one is going to be great! Only thing I can think to make it hetter would be changing to butterfly handles.
I have the original one... It was my first in the Stanley series... I bought several more... Finally found my favorite and most versatile ( for me anyways) in the Mountain Series Compact cookset. This is the first thing I have seen about an updated version of the original! Thank you for sharing!
I just ordered the new Stanley two cup cookset. I have used the old style for many years now but always wanted it a little larger and now Stanley has built one. I am liking the new two cups also for coffee and coco or cool aid style beverages. The double wall cups work great with hot liquids or hot soups or really anything else that’s hot you could cook.
Just bought this on REI after watching your video. I loved the old set but the bottom was a little small for some stoves. The new lid is an improvement but I had no problem with the old lid tab. The new stove does sit better on small stoves. I like how they changed the color of the cups to a lighter green to tell them apart. Thanks again for posting this video, you are ahead of everyone......even AMAZON.
Thanks for the review. I just used my Stanley Adventure 2Cup Cookset last week over a hammock camping trip. It worked great as always. I've had it for more than 7 years now. I normally do the cooking when we are camping or on a day hike so my wife didn't really cook with it. This last trip, she used it and love it, especially the green cups. Now this new product is going to be a game changer. I may just buy it.
Great review, thank you for showing that the nalgene will fit in this. Blackie Thomas demonstrated that the old Stanley two cup mostly fits the Grayl GeoPress water filter, so this larger version will be perfect for the GeoPress as a cookset. Awesome combo!
Thanks for the comparison! The old Stanley has been a go-to pot for years - glad to know that the design team there paid attention to cares/concerns/suggestions from customers, and seem to have made some really nice improvements! EDIT: Weird. Amazon has the old 2 cup cookset, the new 2 cups set, the new 2 bowl prep & cook set - but not the new 2 cup cookset!
A fuel canister if you turn it upside down fits perfectly in the old one, with stove and nested in a cup. I took this set up on many backpacking trips. in the new one, it will rattle, and it doesn't set all the way into the nesting cup.
Nice! But I have a couple of the older ones back when it was very inexpensive, I carry a small square bushcraft grill and set it on top of stoves to stabilize the pot if needed. This and the Stanley french press go to most of my camping trips. Fitting the Nalgene bottle doesn’t matter to me because I go for several weeks at a time, need more water and at 67 I don’t backpack anymore. I think you’re the first reviewing this, thanks. 👍🏻
Interesting but I will keep using the old version. Not spending money on something I don't want or need. Thanks for the information, will keep what you have said in mind.
That new Stanley looks great, my old version has served me well over the years. I believe the mark inside the old green cup is “one cup”. I guess the Green Cup Club is outdated now 😂
I am sure the diehard members of the Green Cup Club will still be around. That being said, we will have to get ready for the Sage Cup Club. Thanks for watching and the comment.
UPDATE: MY BAD, IT IS 8 OZ AT THE INSIDE MEASUREMENT MARK (JUST TO CLARIFY THAT). 6 ounces at the marker line. How do I know this, pray tell... I challenged my husband about it and HE WON 🏆, 6 ounces on the dot at the marker 😂.
@@johnvidal70 I just did a full-on measure and OOPS IT IS 8oz at the fill line! I forgot I had put a marker line on the other side (inside) to measure for my Mini Rice Cooker!!! He, of course, didn't know about that and used it for the measurement. My bad. He just showed me my Rice measurement line, 😆. Poor dear, gotta love 💘 his heart ❤ , 👍.
Take a dremel tool and cut off a 1/16" to an 1/8" inch off each end of the handle nibs, makes taking the handle off MUCH easier and still locks fine when using the push lock piece.
It appears they designed it to nest around a Nalgene (smart), but in order to take advantage of that capability the handle needs to be removed for storage. I would have expected a design for easy removal 🤷♂️
A lot more functional with the new size and lid design. That you can now put a full-on Nalgene Bottle into it is a huge improvement! HOME RUN STANLEY 🎉🏃♂️
Like lots of others, I thought this product was discontinued a couple of years ago. Great, will get one as soon as I can source one. Thanks for your video.
I seen this set recently on their website. Looked for a video but didn’t find one. Happy your video popped up today! I have the older version and the cups are 10oz it’s wrote on the bottom of them. So I’m curious as to what the size of the new ones are and if it’s on the bottom as well. 😁
Nalgene makes a 32 oz ss backpacker water bottle that is tapered to fit the original Stanley Adventure 2 cup cookset. And the GSI cup will nest the complete set.
Thanks for the review. I'd seen the Wildfare Go set on the Stanley website and elsewhere but not much in the way of commentary about it. The Adventure set used to sell for around $15 at Walmart, one of it's attractive selling points, but now sells elsewhere for $25. The Wildfare set sells for $20. So, an improved set for a 20% less. Thanks again.
Even though I don't own either of these I can readily see the new one as a better option as its size does make it more useful for cooking some items vs just boiling water. I still don't get the importance of it fitting a nalgene bottle as most cook kits will be filled with stoves, fuel canister, eating utensils, lighter, etc.
Is it that much of an improvement from the older design to make it worth considering changing it, don't think so I'm happy with what I have, it served me well all those years!
Great video! I have two of the new design, both from REI. First one was $20, second on sale for $15 but they prorated the first one to sale price. I use one of the cups as my main coffee cup at the house. I nest mine in the large GSI cup and it has a couple inches of space so you can add some stuff in there. What brand bag is that, I like how it unzips in the front. Thanks for sharing.
New to these little sets but saw that the old version wasn't available through Stanley (atm? or any longer?) Anyways, I assumed the new version would be inferior--glad to see it actually has some improvements! Thanks for the review.
This kit is even cooler now. Turn your gas canister upside down and it will go to the bottom. That move and the fact that the bottom of the gas tank is concave will open up some meaningful extra storage space above the tank.
I wish they would sell it without the 2 plastic cups. I would ditch those and use the rest with my GSI cup in my bottle bag. Question, how does the new lid fit on a GSI cup?
I dont need another cook set! But dammit! If looks like ill be getting another one! Nice price at $20. After a quick web search, it looks like this new one is only available are REI, for now. Thank for letting us know.
It seems nice to be able to insert a Nelgene bottle into the new pot but you can’t fold the handle back on top. Not going to boil the Nelgene or put the pot into the backpack
That's funny I was wondering why I couldn't find it on the Shelf at Walmart anymore play Master bed in the middle what's shipping the new ones out for the past couple months
Hopefully you will get it up there soon. I really like the changes they made and appreciate it when a company improves products such as this one. Thanks for watching and the comment.
While it's thoughtful that the Nalgene bottle now nests, you still can't close the handle. Was the purpose to double-boil the (stainless) bottle, will you just have the handle out all the time while packed, or will you do the reverse handle hack I've seen done?
I do too. It looks like a nice setup, but I am not a fan of the price of that set. They don’t have any local to me, but I did find one at a Scheels Sporting Goods that I will be near next week. If I pick one up, there will be a review. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Ya just under 100 shipped with tax from stanley. I went with the new round 8in its similar to old but handle flips to hold the new steel lid on instead of under. And just a plastic cover . Once seasoned it cooks nicely. I have the original adventure cup too with the 32oz taperd nalgene steel bottle. But recently picked up the boil & brew French press.and if i could figure out how not to break the screen with a bottle id total replace my old cup! I believe its still slightly bigger than v2 of the new cup. Max fill is 32oz with room to boil
depending on where you're going to store/carry any possible combination with this new kit did you know Nalgene now have a 48 oz/1500 ml wide mouth Tritan bottle same diameter as 32 oz just taller I only discovered it by chance here in UK
