    tip, if u wrap the orange cloth around the Stanley, you can put the 4 dollar cup onto the bottom and it will be a snug fit, not rattles and you dont need the bands on the outside

    To get the split keyring on you must thread it through the loop on top then it folds flat holds secure now unthread the ring a litte bit and it holds in place upright easier to grab or put a stick through to life the lid.

    The BRS stove is very popular with A.T. Thru hikers. It’s a phenomenal deal for sure! Great set up you have there Wade. You don’t need to spend $100 for something to cook with. I will say though...who makes soup along with their oatmeal?? 🤣🤣

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol I had a pack of oatmeal I had to use up then then realized that’s not enough and grab a bag of soup killed the soup and the oatmeal was like a snack

    I have the same cook set. I use the tumblers that came with it at home. They are durable and no matter how hot your drink may be you will not feel it through the thick body of the cup.
    But the Stanley and the metal cup is all you need for backpacking and lightweight camping. You can't beat it for quality and value.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed in most situations less is better

  • @smuir6104
    @smuir6104 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That is basically my backpacking kit too. the only thing I will mention is putting the nipple down in the kit does wear it down and can break, broke on a week long rip once. so I keep a doubled up micro fiber cloth in the bottom, cut in half so it fits well. or sometimes the canister will have a plastic lid, just keep it on, and then save the lid for the next canister.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I didn't think of it wearing that piece off like that so it would be a god idea to put something in the bottom thanks for the tip

    I am just starting to take up hiking again. That setup looks fantastic. Small and compack, i like it. Easy to store in the backpack and use.

    • @WadeHarrison
      @WadeHarrison  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I put this together and it just stays in my backpack and if you run out of gas unlike the jetboil you can still build a small fire and use this to boil water or cook

    I've got the same exact Stanley cook set. First thing I did was to get rid of the plastic cups and bought a couple of the foldable kind.
    Because I am always considered about weight in my camping and hiking gear. I prefer to use a little Bic lighter instead of the one you are using.
    That, and I absolutely have to have some kind of frying pan.
    So I bought from a 9-1/2" inch nonstick frying pan from my local Walmart store for like $5 dollars.
    Took the handle off of it and bought one of those little frying pan grabbers. Off of Amazon for like another $5 dollars.
    Now I can make some pretty decent meals.

    Cut one of those green scouring pads in half. Wrap it around the stanley pot and fit both down into the walmart cup. That will hold it securely without needing the rubber bands. It's very tight and won't come loose on it's own.

    Some people claim the original green tab on the lid will melt, and promote removing it and replacing it with a metal ring. I have had this Stanley cookset for years...when I use the cookpot I stand the green tab straight up...I've used it many, many times and the Tab has never melted.
    Most people that melt theirs, have set the cookpot into a camp fire, with heat and flames high enough that it is basically generating high heat up the side and around the top. Or they leave the Tab laying down on the hot lid...stand it erect and it will remain up. It wasn't the fault of Stanley's design...it was the user's lack of common sense.
    I can easily cook with mine...the tab never melts nor ever gets hot...makes it easier for removing the lid.
    It is the cookpot I use most often. I liked it so much, I recently purchased one of the new Wildfare Go Cooksets...based on this, but a larger capacity. The cookpot in this video holds 24-oz...the new one holds 32-oz.

    I've been using this setup for awhile and it's really the simplest most portable especially for pack hunting. I like that stove you have, it holds the large Stanley cup better than my pocket rocket. And the large elastics I don't have but will have soon... Simple and works well👍
