I'm a 20 year old City fan. watching the Gillingham game on TV is one of my first memories, Nicky Weaver was my first hero.

One of my favourite ever City players. Without that save who knows what would have happened. We had to get out of League 1 straight away or we could have been in Leeds' position now. Real shame about his injury because he was on the verge of the national team at that point. Still, he'll always be a City hero!

Thank you for being absolutely brilliant Nicky. The play offs of course was fantastic, but the following season, week in week out superb.
I remember a mid week game at home to Ipswich, he saved shot and shot, and right in the last minute he made a save at the Platt Lane... the ground he covered from near post to far post to then dive and save ball on the line had the Ipswich players on their knees and their heads in their hands.
Nicky Weaver- a giant in every sense of the word. A great in the history of City. His enthusiasm, his smile but most of all his ability gives him a special place in the heart of supporters. At City's lowest ebb, Nicky Weaver represented a better future, he was the epitome of hope. Without him, and his comrades of 1998-99, City would have been what Sunderland are now.... a big club trapped in the 3rd tier.

Weaver what a legend & down to earth guy. I was at Wembley that day in the playoffs stayed till the end. If it wasnt for that team. We wouldnt be where we are today!!
