My first few seasons as a season ticket holder included this guy (born in 93), my first City love. I remember I had him on the back of my shirt and was in a shop, I got a tap on the shoulder to find a City fan bowing down saying "Ali, Ali".
A fantastic influence on our wonderful club despite his short stay. A brilliantly talented footballer, I'm sure he was in the Monaco team along David Trezurget that dumped the rags out of the CL a few years previous. He could have played in any top team, he was that good. Love to see him in our team today. Thanx for the memories Ali. MCFC loyal.
That’s a great call, you’re right he started both legs for Monaco in that quarter final tie. I was 8 when he signed for city so wouldn’t have appreciated him anywhere close to how I do now which is a shame but what an absolute gem to look back on fondly. Can you imagine his confusion turning up to a 2nd division team with no recent success, in the shadow of a footballing giant and your first game is in front of a crowded Maine Road, he must’ve wondered what he’d walked into.
That Keegan side from2001 was one of my favourites. bernarbia.wanchope .etc.iv been a city fan since 1977.there have been some great city sides and this one was very attack minded and entertaining.bernarbia was class💯♥️..icie moss side Manchester city.uk
City fans loved him so much that they used to call him Ali baba in them days if I remember correctly he was a breath of fresh air and a magical Algerian player.
special talent - only issues were 1/ when we got him he was older..... why oh why couldn't we have got the 25 yo Ali Bernabia? His vision and range of passing was amazing. 2/ we got him too soon - imagine being able to call on him, KDB and Silva - both of them - to create from midfield .....Pep would have loved him
He was in top clubs in france, winning leagues with monaco and bordeaux, then playins with stars in psg (wasn’t the psg of today, but still a top club in france) Then he discovers england playing with city in championship and then premier league, but he was at the end of his career... I think if we went to england earlier he would have love it
He was a huge fan favourite for many City fans during his stay here. Him and Berkovic in midfield were brilliant. I'd love to see a sit down interview with Ali and Riyad
Not even kidding Ali had the quality to play in Guardiola's City side he was a class act Keegan built a hell of a side on a small budget.
