Nice! My first car, purchased in 1973 was a lime green metallic ‘70 Mach 1 with the same 351W 2bbl and an FMX automatic. I added 1 5/8” long tubes, dual exhaust with “volcanic” mufflers, an aluminum Offy dual plane intake, Holley 600 4 bbl and a re curved distributor. I didnt have access to a dyno back then but based on the ET’s it ran (high 14’s) it probably made a little less than your car (220-230 RWHP) due to it still running the stock cam and heads. Back then there were very few speed parts available for the Windsor. You couldn’t even get a shift kit for the FMX! Everyone wanted either the Cleveland or the FE big block. I was actually sheepish when asked what engine my car had. People would act like, “oh, I’m sorry” when I told them it was a Windsor. Your car sounds really good for a 50 year old stock short block. Guessing you hit it with like a 150 shot?
Yeah just a 150 shot. My first time to the track with an all stock engine. Heads, cam and performer intake and 600 cfm 4 barrel it went 14.50 at 89 mph. On the bottle it went 13.30 at 103. The setup on the dyno is TFS heads, xe284h cam and 750 demon carb and it went 13.00 at 106. I couldn't get the nitrous to work that day. I'm building a new bottom end now with a lot more compression with flat top pistons, H beam rods and a steel crank. Should be more power on just the engine than I have now on the bottle.
@@swingle73 when my engine was being rebuilt, I asked the owner how bad does nitrous wear out the engine? He told me that engines that are built for nitrous should be inspected/ torn down after 10 bottles. Just wanted to pass that along. Love that Mustang

Nice, not bad for old iron. I've a 281 4v 1997 Cobra, made 440RWHP at 7lbs of boost. Car I owned before 87 hatch, AOD with shift kit, stock heads, stock stall, 3.73s, Edelbrock intake, 70mm TB and spacer, and full exhaust with 125 dry shot. Ran same as my 97 Cobra in quarter...but the Fox was lightened quite a bit. I'd guess easily 500lbs dif. Both ran 12.2s. Cobra has prob easy 3-4 tenths left in it, running stock axles, so was easy on launch with it...1.88 60'.
Had a Windsor in my 70 Mach 1. Boss cam, ported 69 heads, port matched alum Ford intake. About 350 hp. Back in the early 80's. Sold it to have kids. Now my toys are guitars and amps.
@@BuzzLOLOL - At best! The Windsor 2bbl was rated at 250 gross HP (crank) meaning it had about 210ish net HP at the crank. With drivetrain loss I would I guess a stock 351 Windsor 2bbl automatic car would make around 180 RWHP. I owned one with the exact same combo in 1973.
A good running 351W with a modern top end package (heads, cam and intake) with a set of long tube headers can easily make 425-450 crank HP with matching TQ. The bottom end of these engines can easily take this level of power and they run forever!
@@danmyers9372 - After '71, 351W also needs better pistons for a 'top end package' to work well... because the pistons got dishes and the block deck was raised... '69 and '70 4 bbl. 351W rated 290 HP... went down hill in several ways after that...
3rd pull, The right strap popped off one notch and was slightly looser so you have assymetrical thrust and maybe tire slippage as a result. Even if it is a locker. That might show a hp loss.

Mine are grown now and with my dad passing, I’m finally finishing his 69 fastback. Our lives had gotten in the way of us finishing it for so long.
I wish she had a 390 but still sounds awesome
There's one identical in a barn in ohio. Been parked since 1980 i believe. 4 gear
Gotta love that nitrous
Auto engineers back then knew where to place the stock!
This has no duel exhaust cutout in the Rear pan, it must have came as a 2 Barrell engine from factory
Or it's not a true Mach 1
@@rickchambers73 Nice observation. It's an original 2 barrel Windsor car,so the rear valance has no cutouts. Not many people notice that.

I currently have a 1970 Mach 1 and I’m looking to restore it but don’t know where to begin?
If the work to get it in shape costs vastly more than the end result then you may not want to restore it. Unless it has sentimental value of course.
That is so awesome 💯👍
Beautiful car! How much nitrous are you spraying? I've been thinking of spraying my 70 for a few extra ponies.
No nitrous. 20lbs of boost with twin 69mm turbos
@swingle73 sorry description said nitrous. Or are you talking about the Fairlane

351W should be pushing out anywhere between 300Hp and 500Hp Max with edel brocks and that's no nitrous :)
So 485hp at the flywheel. Not bad at all.
Thanks. Not too bad for a tired Windsor
Awesome
Did this have the factory 351 heads on it? I'm running ported 69 351 heads on my 302
No. The heads are Trick Flow twisted wedge 170's
