Worked nights for 3 years, including the pandemic. Broke me. You either can or you can’t. I admire anyone that can.

I did it in my youth, couldn't sleep, felt as if on drugs all day and became fat.

@@sandeepmortal Yes! Felt constantly vacant. Ate rubbish, didn’t/couldn’t sleep (lockdown and a hot summer didn’t help) still came out the otherside. ☺️

I work shifts and some information on your site has been of great value to me but I’d like your opinion on this roster. Something I did for a short time. Here in the Western Australian mining industry we have something called a “Rotating Roster”. It works like this. Your workday typically, if all goes well, will be 14 to 16 hours. You then swap with your “cross shift” partner and he works 14 to 16 hours and then swap again. When there is a hold up, and there alway is, your shift may extend to 18 or more hours. Never mind the 18 hour shift you do at work, whats worse is having six hours sleep at the beginning of your 18 hours off and then starting a 14, or longer, hour shift after being awake for 12 hours already. All this whilst operating a quad road train weighing 300 tonnes (661386 lbs) on public roads.

That's a great point. Your chronotype changes throughout your life, so it's not uncommon to have a little different sleep rhythm when you're older. We've got some tips for you in this video: th-cam.com/video/XDfNLw1W6FA/w-d-xo.html

I work differently every week of the month and I have insomnia for more than a year now. My biorhythm is completely devastated and I think I will need few months to recover after I quit this job. Good look to everyone. Don't try it. 😁

Shift workers should be compensated for loss of health.

I work four 13hr days in a row: day day night night, and then “five” off (I don’t get home until 8am on my first day “off” and it technically a night for me!). I’m desperate, I’m so tired all the time I feel like I have dementia. But I can’t sleep longer than five hours at a time, no matter how long I’ve been up for. I’ll check out more of your videos for sure, but honestly might have to set up an appointment with my GP?? Even just to get something to clonk me out long enough for a full sleep where I can get it. I guess I’m mostly just commenting because I wonder if there are others with similar situations to me that have some tips?

Similar to me, I work 12 hour shifts in a hospital: 2 days 2 nights, then 4 days off. I cant sleep at all after my night shifts without sleeping pills, on my days off I can fall asleep but I wake up constantly all night tossing and turning. My smartwatch says i get about 30 mins deep sleep on my days off. My GP calls it shift work insomnia and I need to go to the sleep clinic, but they wont refer me while I'm working nights as it won't work. I have 3 kids and feel so tired and low all the time, insomnia takes so much out of you. Apparently CBT sleep training works wonders, but i can't afford to change jobs at the moment with all the bills and mortgage. I hope you get better results from your GP

I want to sleep well while going to bed at 4am, waking up at 12. I just can't get past five or six hours sleep, either with insomnia or poor sleep quality after around 8am. Everything is blacked out though... I feel sleepy after the sun sets but I need to be able to stay awake. What would be a good protocol to basically have me up with energy from 12 to 0:00 at least and then gently disconnecting till it's time to go to bed at 4? I have hypogonadal symptoms while not technically still being low t. I'm around 320ng but have started to struggle since last year with libido and erections every now and then. Anxiety and depressive symptoms. Would light therapy work? Is it just a matter of buying a light box and have it till 22 or 23 on? So that I trick my brain into thinking it is sunset at 23 or midnight? I feel like when I go to sleep my melatonin is maybe depleted and o don't have enough to last me till noon because it starts being produced at sunset... Can someone help me to sleep better so all my symptoms improve? I am 42.
