Stargazing at the Great Sand Dunes National Park

The Great Sand Dunes National Park is a certified as an International Dark Sky Park for the quality of its night skies. In some areas of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, it's possible to see up to 15,000 stars throughout the night! After sunset, the park transforms into a majestic setting illuminated by the night's sky and is waiting for you to visit!

can we camp on the dunes?

You have to get a permit from the visitors center. I think they only allow 6 parties on the dune at night, but it’s first come first serve. The parks open 24/7 though so you can hang out there at night.
